On another note, it appears that the sandstones need tweaking. The smooth sandstone appears to have the chiseled sandstone top and vice versa. The same goes for the red sandstone as well, except reversed: smooth red sandstone has chiseled sides and vice versa. I'm sure it is an easy enough fix for those of us at home if we know what we are doing, but other users might be a little daunted.
On second thought, it might be daunting for everyone, at least I feel that way. I just opened the ctm folder and see that all the sandstone textures are in one folder with numbers for names. same for red sandstone. Without digging into the .properties files, I'll have to figure it out by trial and error, painstakingly.

Could you possibly show me a pic of this? I remember I intentionally mixed up the top surfaces of some sandstone blocks for variety of paving slabs, but what you experience doesn't sound like what I intended. I better go and have a look too. Are you using the 'normal sandstone' add-on. That might have had some extra effects I didn't check for when I made it. My focus was only on swapping the 'rocky' normal sandstone over to sandstone bricks.
Something else to note is that the 'normal sandstone' add-on only effects normal sandstone not red sandstone. I'm hoping that folk won't have made any huge constructions yet with red sandstone, but I can make another add-on pack for that too if necessary. Then I'll need to gauge whether having rough sandstone as the norm is not the great idea I thought it would be.

Lol! Second thoughts, hold off on the trouble of posting a pic. I know what you mean now, I've just checked. In my befuddled state before Christmas it seemed like a good idea to have two different tops for the carved and smooth sandstone blocks and it looks like I did get them mixed up!
You guys are so eagle-eyed I'm getting scared now!
I'll fix it up for the next update...and like I said above, it should be a lot quicker than a year!
The updates look really nice; very impressive as always
Hopefully when I get some time later, I can work on my industrial steampunk world.
Haha, you're very kind, Dan.
Well if you are off to work on your steampunk world, I'm going to work on my dwarven halls and properly try out all those wonderful stained clay designs you've been working on.
Are you kidding me? I dont personally see how any of this could be a disappointment. I find it very difficult to really dig into my worlds without your easthetic stylings. Makes my worlds that much more enjoyable. So I will gladly say thanks again for all your hard work good sir.

Ooh, the update is out. Time to boot up Minecraft again. Gotta decide which project to work on, got a lot of half-completed builds all over the place… but looking at all these new textures, I'm kinda tempted to go back to some of my old builds and update them instead of finishing building my newer projects. Some of the new blocks would really spruce up my Nautilus quite nicely… and I just remembered that I still haven't finished building the bottom half of THAT either. And I started building that back in 2010, when the map was an active server. I'm really not that good at completing these projects, am I?
Hey Glim. I just downloaded the new pack and noticed that the the Prismarine blocks and the Sea Lantern block are not retextured. And yes, I did run MC Patcher before I used the new pack.

You should see 'behind the scenes' in Newglim...you wouldn't feel bad about not finishing some things then.
I'm still on the look out for any nice world pics for my Imgur Album.
I need to chase up Tony2001 for permission to include those airship pics, asikar too, and I've just read back and seen Megistus was offering his pics...though I've kind of lodged his recent pics with the mod support he made...so I'm not sure where he'd prefer things (Let me know, Megistus. ), so although I know you've posted pics before and I could spend an age looking for those, if you have anything else I might like the look of, sporting the new textures, ?
I shouldn't forget Pipehead too. However, most of his pics in the old OP had disappeared, so a search back through my thread to rescue any remaining pics might not bear much fruit now.
I'm sure there are many others who posted nice builds which I've missed out in my sleep deprived state. Having said that, I do intend to pick and choose the best stuff to keep the standard of work presented inspirational to others. So I'm kind of looking for epic, novel or architecturally stimulating stuff, but don't ask me to define it any more than that. If it makes me go, wow, because it's something epic, massive, beautiful, or original then I'll jump on it and display it for all to see. If enough stuff gets collected then I might be able to categorize things into different albums.

Also, the Mutton has not been retextured.
Yes, as juliasand1 said, everyone had already waited far too long for my update way back before Christmas, so I decided to make a break at the Prismarine and Banner stage, as one was to do with the sea (an area I can conveniently forget about for a little while) and the other is quite a big project in itself. I didn't want to rush them with slapdash work, as it gives the impression that's what the standard of work will be to any newcomers. Better to leave them as vanilla these days, especially as it's possible to use another favored pack above mine if you're really desperate to have everything up to date.
The Prismarine blocks, Guardians and Banners are worth investing a good bit of thought and creative energy in...something I didn't have time to do with trying to bring all other 'land' based textures up to scratch and still get the long awaited update out. I had to call a cut off point.
As mentioned a couple of times above, I really do intend to make smaller updates more often now, and this has been made a lot easier and more efficient having invested yet more time in sprucing up the OP here and on my Curse/Forge page.
You're right though, I completely forgot about the mutton when I had an item binge! That'll have to come in the next update for sure.
Right, have had a play and am loving how my city looks with the new resource pack!!! Below is a link (hopefully!!!) to my Imgur album, showing how the city looks so far. And yes, I did build some of it before today, but the factory is new, as is the partially completed temple. I've included a few shots of the surrounding country side to show how a mesa landscape looks...
Looking forward to building more - and Glimmar, feel free to use or share any image.
Imgur album link worked fine for me, Lindreth. So I've picked out 4 images I'll use for the 'Fan Made Worlds' album I've started.
Glad you like the new textures, but I can see I'm going to have to rethink the mesa stained clay with some biome specific textures. Making the stained clays more varied, other than brick, has made matters worse in that biome...not better. It's a real pity that Mojang didn't make the stained clays 'natural' and 'fired' versions for those found in mesa regions.
I love all the estates, factory and office buildings. I can see your'e waiting on the banners being completed too!
Many thanks for pics.
ps. I won't give the pics a title, other than your city name and your forum name, until you see what I've chosen and then if you want, you can let me know what I should re-label them as.
edit: Have just posted them in the album in the OP.
i just wanted to say thank you for all the work you've put into this, i oft take breaks from the game and finding a resource pack i like that is also still being updated is one of the annoying aspects about returning, but that's never a problem with yours, i have zips back to v5 in the now defunct texture pack folder.

you sir are a gentleman and a scholar
Thank you indeed, kind sir.
Well, I'm hopelessly hooked on wandering my own world, and even though I have other things to attend to, I still find it very relaxing returning to the confines of Newglim and wondering what other nefarious schemes I can come up with. So my addiction...I mean relaxation exercises, works in your favor.
I've kind of kept all my old backup saves for Newglim and it was always my intention to show a work in progress, but that was before the fascinating rise of epic speed builds.
Glimmar, thank you!!! Yes, they're fine as they are named, am pleased you liked them enough to share!!! I know that my 'builds' are pretty small compared to others that I see on here, including, of course, the magnificent Newglim Still, I have fun creating in Minecraft, and will no doubt update my album as the city grows.
As for the biome textures, I agree that it's a shame Mojang didn't include natural and fired versions of the clays. Still, I rather like the effect of your textures in the mesa - far better than many other packs that I've seen.
All the best, and thanks again for a brilliant resource pack - one of the first that I discovered and definitely one of the very best
Having fun and making something satisfying is what it's all about. The first and still the best sandbox/survival game for making large and small scale builds...what's not to like.
I'm kind of intrigued now to see what biome specific stained clays might look like.
As regards the pack, I get double the pleasure from it when others seem to like the style and the surprises, but thank you again for the kind words.
On the one hand, it is a little odd seeing brick, tile, marble, and other architectural textures out in the environment. But adding mesa biome specific textures might be tough for those, like Lindreth that build there. I know what you mean about fired vs. natural. It would be great if there was a ctm solution in lieu of one from Mojang. Like, user placed ctm vs. environmental ctm, or something.
Haven't had much time to check out the new textures yet.
Had to do some tweaking to get the ctm to work correctly with optifine first. (pic's below for comparison)
Not all of the blocks that are in the screenshots had ctm problems.
So, hopefully not a complete disaster for Optifine users? I fear some things you might not be able to resolve completely, but for the most part I would expect you'll get a fair amount to work as intended.

Well, having two stages for the stained clays, natural and fired, would be in keeping with the way ordinary clay always worked, so it seems logical to me and would free up all texture artists to have a more natural but simple set of colored textures and then a whole range of more adventurous fired/glazed patterned tiles. As extra blocks go I would hope it's not a difficult thing for Mojang to do.
Just putting up with more useful stained clays in the mesa biome was always my preferred way of approaching things for exactly the reason you mention. However good the biome specific texture system is, you'd still end up with a borderline that would be just as weird as what we have now. I can always just make a small add-on pack for biome specific clay though and folk can just decide for themselves if they want to use it. However, they'd have to carefully build directly inside or outside the mesa or risk having a hybrid building! Off the top of my head I think it's only about 5 of the stained clays that occur there.
It is so great to see this texture pack still alive! My Favorite since its original release. Just recently got back into Minecraft but sadly I can not use the 1.8 version because the server I am playing on is still 1.7.10 due to mods. Is there a download for the 1.7.10 version still available from somewhere?
You can still use this version of the pack, it just won't have the 1.8 blocks in it.
