Wow, you've been working on NewGlim quite a bit since I last saw it! It really is always a pleasure to see it continue to evolve and develop along with the pack itself. Ive tried to start my own little city of sorts, but I always get sidetracked with other projects or games. You have an unearthly dedication for having the same city for so long instead of moving on. Can not wait for the next update, hope your holidays are still going smoothly
Seasons Greetings, Jester.
I'm away from my workstation for Christmas and the New Year, so can't advance things with regard to the update. Even if I was at home I wouldn't be doing anything as this time of year is a big family celebration with much visiting and 'to-ing' and 'fro-ing'. I've also got a stinker of a cold with all the sleepless nights trying to get things finished...and not succeeding!
So all I can manage now is to pop in and reply to any posts.
to you! More diamonds to you! Even more! This is one of the best packs I've ever seen. Sadly my computer can barely run a 32x pack (fps somewhere between 15 and 30 when using such a pack) so I don't think it's a good idea to play with this pack (unless I want 1 fps). Maybe I should install Optifine... Oh, which program do you use to make your amazing textures? And how did you get all those skills?
Many thanks, J. Glad you like my resource pack.
Yes, it's a bit of a resource hungry beast now. Hope you get a chance to use it some time in the future though.
Work will resume on getting the update out as soon as I get the family back home and other visits are settled and behind us.
Christmas and the New Year period is a crazy time of year for me as, besides family matters, a lot of my RL work is related to getting things finished for Christmas, so hobbies and things I do in my spare time, however much I love them, like Minecraft, have to take a back seat for a while.
My biggest mistake was in thinking I'd be able to get the update completely finished and out of the way before Christmas...I won't make the same mistake again in the future. I will have to be completely honest and say updates come when they are ready and convenient for me and not before.
The work is not abandoned, is very much my favorite freetime activity, but RL sometimes doesn't leave me with any free time at all and the Festive Season is one of those times when family most definitelycomes first.
I will be back as soon as possible to present the last vids and be in a position to upload an MCPatcher working version of Glimmar's Steampunk.
i went to the mad mueseam http://themadmuseum.co.uk/ and saw this..........cant find a pic.......anyway it was a type writer which when you pressed a key it would tap on a glass! also lots of steam-punk! maybe add a type writer
Already have! Check out some of the gui, especially the enchant gui. Typewriter keys feature heavily in my textures, you just have to hunt 'em down!
Or did you mean make a block into a typewriter? Perhaps the enchant block might lend itself to some jiggery pokery along those lines. Could be cool!
New Sandstone textures meant the need to revise sand. However, the work involved to make a complete new suite of connected sandstone textures that would sit nicely with sand, whilst also sitting pretty as part of huge civic city constructions and desert temples, made for quite a challenge.
Similarly for red sandstone too, even though to save time I've simply recoloured the new sandstone. As soon as I am able, red sandstone will have it's own unique set of textures, but it was important to establish what the color range would be at this early stage so that all the sandstone would sit happily with all the other newly revised 64x natural stone, dirt and sand textures.
There are a huge range of sandstone 'connected textures' now, but the biggest change is to make normal sandstone fit in the landscape naturally as uncut rocks, whilst cut sandstone blocks are achieved by using slabs and double-slab blocks. Coupled with 'carved' and 'smooth' sandstone, and birch planks having a similar tonal range, you'll have a huge palette of sandstone features to play with in your constructions, from simple desert dwellings to huge civic temples of learning like libraries and museums! I hope this video gives an inkling of what is now possible.
Of course you will need to use the latest 'MCPatcher' mod to make use of any CTM 'connected textures'...without which you will not be able to see any extra blocks, animated 'BetterSkies', random animated extra mobs and villagers, animated GUIs, extended range of animated paintings, Better Colors, BetterLighting, etc, etc...you'll be missing out on all of these things and so much more!
To all those who are still interested in my work...thanks for looking in. Also thanks for your patience at this busy festive time. I'm working on things as fast as and when I can, but my family comes first!
Thanks for watching.

Most of the sandstone constructs were thrown together as experiments while I was working on the new textures, excepting the church and the temple-like building, so when (haha! as if!) I ever get the time to really mess with all the new stuff, I hope to be able to work on a few more epic scale constructions rather than little samples.
When you relase v16? I want it NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything looks so great!
Just as soon as I can...but having made the mistake of saying I hoped to have the pack out before Christmas, I don't want to give false hopes as to how soon that will be. I also don't want to end up having a nervous breakdown working until 4am in the morning every night when I've a family and work to attend to the next day.
There's at least one more vid to release first...I'm trying my hardest to cram everything into this next video, but having worked on so much new stuff for this GSv16 update, it means there's a huge amount to catalog for insurance purposes. Hopefully all worth it in the end, especially as it's free for personal use!
There'll always be something that will cheese someone off though...
Looking forward to this - but art takes time, so... we wait, with 'bated breath.
The Auld Grump
Lol! No..I definitely meant this Christmas!
I'm currently attempting to upload the final two taster/work vids to Youtube, but so far it's taken an entire day to reach 80% for a 10min video. I'm guessing even YouTube is buckling under the weight of everyone simultaneously loading up Christmas and New Year festive videos.
I'm honestly trying not to make you all hold your breath any longer than necessary...as it's really not worth passing out over!
.....GSv.16 Taster Vid 8: Creatures, Ladders, Slabs & Brick
Glimmar's Steampunk v.16 Update - available soon!
Title says it all really, though look out for other new things on the way!
I tried and failed to fit everything in one video...It would have been 25 minutes long...far too much for one sitting and for YouTube! However, both videos were edited together and then split in half...so...short of the time taken to upload to YouTube, you won't have long to wait for the final film as they were both rendered at the same time.
You 'will' need to use the latest 'MCPatcher' mod to make use of any CTM 'connected textures' with this update...that means nearly every block in the pack now!...without which you will not be able to see any extra blocks, animated 'BetterSkies', random animated extra mobs and villagers, animated GUIs, extended range of animated paintings, Better Colors, BetterLighting, etc, etc...you'll be missing out on all of these things and so much more!
This update really is only for those who are prepared to use MCPatcher. It will still work without MCPatcher, but you will find that many block textures are still old or unedited as, in trying to get this out as soon as possible, I haven't had time to make new single textures that tile well. Better to use the old textures than to drop in new badly matching single tiles.
I use MCPatcher, this pack was designed for MCPatcher, so please don't complain if you are not prepared to use the best visual aid for Minecraft when using this pack. As soon as I am able to, I will try to update the pack to make it work as well as possible for non-MCPatcher users.
To all those who are still interested in my work...thanks for looking in. Also thanks for your patience at this busy time. I'm working on things as fast as I can, but my family and RL work comes first!

This is where my inexperience as a pixel artist comes in! I find the individual elements like doors, forge, etc. a pleasure (kind of) to struggle with, but getting that relationship between the 'simple' building blocks like cobblestone and granite a real head and eye strain to get right, especially for this theme, and applaud anyone who pulls it off
I just now noticed this, and I have one question:

Marvelous soup cans and seed packets! The labeled cans remind me of the "Can-O-Mush" from Broken Anachronism.
Having had a 32x soup can and tin in my pack for the past four years, it was good fun to have quadruple the pixels to make some proper cans at last. Ever since I made the original soup can and jars of dyes way back in 2010 it's always been my preferred way of storing and accumulating things in MC chests...making things look as they would if you were bottling or preserving things for later use.
Cans look like...cans I guess, even at 64x with a label on the front with limited detail and with a little aging process added, everyone's cans are going to look somewhat similar...but not the same. I think they're sufficiently different though for 13th Murder not to be offended and I did cans first after all!
Turning the seeds into packets just compliments that feeling of nicely storing stuff away in chests, I realize using seed packets has been done before, and not just in Broken Anachronism...way before that...but this past year, while my thumb was healing up, I'd done more planting and filing of seeds than I've ever done before, so again with quadruple the pixels I had a real desire to change my original seeds (again there isn't much space in 32x32 pixels to make convincing seed packets) into nicely storable packets with interesting labels...just like I do in real life.
In RL I am a weird collector of all things I think might be useful and everything gets filed away. Seed packs, tins, jars all give me that nice feeling of being prepared for the future.
Sometimes I wish I was...it would make life easier...no, any success I have is hard won usually at great time and expense, redrawing and redrawing again and again, each time firing up MC to see how something looks. You can imagine how time consuming that process is, but there's nothing nicer than launching Minecraft and finding something you labored on looks as good as you were hoping for!
Usually things look awful and my expression looks something like the meme pic in your spoiler...cos' it means back to the drawing board for another round of experiments.
"each time firing up MC to see how something looks"
My dear chap, have you not heard of F3 and T!!!!????!!!???
Pray tell you don't reload MC every time you want to see your texture changes?? Glimm I cant imagine the amount of time you must have spent reloading MC to see a change. If you do use F3/T then of course ignore this 'ol fool IF you are about to now start using this god send command for texture artists you may just want my babies

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME...........................!
Yep! Heard of it and tried it, but somehow never got into the swing of using it! How daft is that!?!?
Mind you, I'd already spent 2 or 3 years doing things the hard way before someone pointed out the F3 key. It's laborious for sure, but somehow it gives me a chance to think about things in between and go and make a cuppa, or talk to the wife, etc. It's become my crazy mantra way of working and makes for a clean break between work and appraisal... somehow my subconscious doesn't trust the new-fangled methods!
I know, I know, I've got to try it sometime, but somehow it doesn't seem 'macho' enough! I guess I'm old school 'develop a pic in the darkroom, rather than take a digital pic and look at it instantly on the PC. Yep! I really used to do that too! But no, I'm not that bad, I wouldn't do without my Cannon digital camera and instant editing...just not with Minecraft...I have to experience the pain!!
Oh my god! I am fascinated by your retro feeling, it's all so beautiful old, made in such harmony with love, I love it! I got creeps when I watched your video
It is exactly the opposite of my last pack .....(sry about my english,I`m from Austria)
Well, I have been delaying long enough. While I will constantly be tinkering with the Mod Support Textures, I figured I might as well upload what I have. Of course, once Glimmer uploads v.16, I will be updating the pack yet again to merge nicely with his work.
Mods Supported:
Archimedes
Bibliocraft
Buildcraft
Chocolatequest
COFH
Craftguide
EnderIO
Enhanced Portals
Extra Doors
Forestry
Forestry Extras
Gendustry
Mantle (TiC)
Minefactory Reloaded
Project Red
Railcraft
Thermal Expansion
Thermal Foundation
Tinkers Construct
Tinkers Mechworks
Balkon's Weapons Mod (Very WIP)
I am uploading the whole thing as its own texture pack - to install, just add it in conjunction with Glimmar's texture pack. What I am uploading is NOT a complete texture pack, though there are some alternate textures, it loads pretty much NO core textures. It is meant to compliment Glimmar's work, certainly not replace it. Ah, the joys of being able to load multiple texture packs
That is the most awesome set of complimentary textures I could hope for, Megistus!
I'm unfortunately away at the moment, hence the delay in my being able to update, but I was able to download your mod support zip file on my laptop and thoroughly enjoyed looking through the wealth of GS supporting art. Every folder I opened was packed with ingenuity and creativeness, and I can see you've been very careful to stick with the 'style' of the pack. My textures have been well used indeed, and I mean that in a good sense! So very well done indeed!
Haha! How the heck did you manage to glean enough reference from my pics alone to make a copy of my new slime 'balloon' block...when i haven't even uploaded it yet? You've got it just about completely spot on! That's some clever detective work there, fella!
The only thing I would ask is that you take out the core pack alts from automatically being installed when anyone drops your mod pack into the Resource Pack folder in game. They are absolutely fantastic textures, and I'd be very proud of them if I'd done them, or even been able to do them, but I'd rather the core pack is left undisturbed when dealing with the mod side of things. I would be delighted to be able to use them in the next Alt Textures pack, or we could come to some arrangement for offering 'drop in' add on mini alt GS texture packs that could provide users with a range of alternate textures. It's something I've been wanting to get round to doing at some time in the future, for providing things like 'girders' to replace some glass types, etc. It's just I'd like to keep it in a separate section distinct from texture support for other mods and distinct from my own decisions for what goes in the main pack.
I absolutely love all the extra gadgets you've been able to make, all the character skins based on my pig zombies and villagers (you've made fantastic use of the villager/costume skin pack I sent you) and the myriad gui skins...the sheer quantity is amazing!
You've done a super job and thoroughly put me to shame in the process. I'm amazed that anyone would want to support this pack with so much effort as you obviously have, I only hope my coming update will be seen to be as exciting as what you offer in your mod support pack. Many thanks, Megistus.
ps. by the way, having seen this post last night I thought I'd better check my MC Forum posts (it's still not functioning for me - by way of alerts, and when I'm snowed under with RL work and update work it's the last place I go looking!) and noticed you'd asked about whether I have new 'ore overlays'.
Well, I thought I did, but I've just checked my backup GS work folder I carry with me and discovered 'again' that I didn't do the ore part as a separate overlay! I remembered I started with multiple layers with the best of intentions and got so frustrated flicking back and forth between ore, shadow and base layers for multiple ctm squares that I just ended up using dodge and burn, etc., directly on copies of my new stone tiles. I'm still working very much like I would with RL acrylic and oils, working directly with the stone material...not good for future edits, but when in a rush I fall back on techniques I'm comfortable with.
That's as frustrating for me as it is for you, as with the little spare time I have in the evening (still away), I've been doing my best to update the single non-MCPatcher textures in the pack to the new stuff and I've had to make a new single stone background texture (for better tiling purposes) over which I'm having to overlay and 'rub through' the best of the new ore textures...not ideal, but better than what I had before for those who just can't or won't use MCPatcher.

Curse PremiumHaving had a 32x soup can and tin in my pack for the past four years, it was good fun to have quadruple the pixels to make some proper cans at last.
My dear chap, have you not heard of F3 and T!!!!????!!!???
Pray tell you don't reload MC every time you want to see your texture changes?? Glimm I cant imagine the amount of time you must have spent reloading MC to see a change. If you do use F3/T then of course ignore this 'ol fool
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME...........................!

Curse PremiumYep!

Curse PremiumWell, I have been delaying long enough. While I will constantly be tinkering with the Mod Support Textures, I figured I might as well upload what I have. Of course, once Glimmer uploads v.16, I will be updating the pack yet again to merge nicely with his work.
Mods Supported:
Archimedes
Bibliocraft
Buildcraft
Chocolatequest
COFH
Craftguide
EnderIO
Enhanced Portals
Extra Doors
Forestry
Forestry Extras
Gendustry
Mantle (TiC)
Minefactory Reloaded
Project Red
Railcraft
Thermal Expansion
Thermal Foundation
Tinkers Construct
Tinkers Mechworks
Balkon's Weapons Mod (Very WIP)
I am uploading the whole thing as its own texture pack - to install, just add it in conjunction with Glimmar's texture pack. What I am uploading is NOT a complete texture pack, though there are some alternate textures, it loads pretty much NO core textures. It is meant to compliment Glimmar's work, certainly not replace it. Ah, the joys of being able to load multiple texture packs

Curse PremiumI'm unfortunately away at the moment, hence the delay in my being able to update, but I was able to download your mod support zip file on my laptop and thoroughly enjoyed looking through the wealth of GS supporting art.
You've done a super job and thoroughly put me to shame in the process.
ps. by the way, having seen this post last night I thought I'd better check my MC Forum posts (it's still not functioning for me - by way of alerts, and when I'm snowed under with RL work and update work it's the last place I go looking!) and noticed you'd asked about whether I have new 'ore overlays'.
