As a general advice, do not use "Enter" to make a new line. Only use "Shift+Enter"...even though this is completely opposite to any text editor we know.
Also don't try using manual BBCode. That is going to fail most of the time. Particularly for quotes and spoilers. You want to use the dedicated buttons for those. (blue quote / red exclamation point)
Just sharing my experience on it, in case it can bring some hope to your suffering

Many thanks for tips...much appreciated. It still sounds too easy to make mistakes and lose everything to chaos in a moments carelessness. Does anyone know the reasons for all the changes anyway? Like THA-REAL-Alexandrowich I'm just waiting on things being fixed as it's completely unacceptable and unreliable as it is at the moment.
Thanks again though, GotoLink.

ah, i saw that, dont worry, i posted to that back even. i mean like did you see the forum now in its new caos form? Just had another look and I see what you mean! That's what I'm afraid will happen to my OP if I touch it in any major way. All I can do is concentrate on updating my pack and then when it comes to the crunch I'll just have to gut everything in the OP and have something extremely simple and uninformative and slowly try and build it back up. It's a huge disappointment though considering the hundreds of hours I put into compiling things.
...and I still can't get my sig to work!!!!
If I didn't believe in conspiracy theories I'd be thinking someone has pushed a self-destruct button on the MC Forums. Coupled with the uncertainty of the Microsoft buyout, I'm not surprised things have got majorly quiet around the forums. Has anyone noticed how few people comment on the news items these days? It used to number in the many hundreds and now it's rare if you get more than 20 comments, even on major news articles.
My friend has been trying to convince me for months now that Minecraft as a major game is dying. Most people who wanted to try out Minecraft have by now, so the player count isn't really increasing. I don't think it will ever die, like all genre defining games it will live on (Doom, Command and Conquer etc) in increasingly niche communities. There's a chance that Microsoft might breath new life into the game, but I guess even so, we're past the golden age. I'm not really worried about that though - I have a suspicion I'll be playing this game well into the forgotten niche phase...
i thought the same, somehow its like in a church on weekends, not much going on.
but somehow it feel peaceful like its a chance for us to just take a breath and relief, ... well even thought he MC forum editor isnt realy leting us to.
lets actualy just take a breath and lean back on our nice and comfortable chairs for a bit and enjoy the silence ;D
joke aside now, we all need to just dive under, and work on the things we love to work without bothering too much to share the news right now. well, the way you, glim, do this is the only way now to get ppl informed of updates, by pasting images in the comment section, (nice image btw, realy beautiful)
but everyone his own.
i,ll be able to konzentrate on my project even harder, wich makes me happy :3
glim, i wish you as well my favourite 3 points i always like to say: konzentration, inspiration and motivation. ^^

Oh, I agree it will most definitely continue in some form or other if allowed and so long as I can use my pack and a working version of MC and MCPatcher I'll be tinkering and continually building in and around my city until I pop my clogs!
I've recently been having a go with 'TUG' another survival/building sandbox game and it's quite beautiful and well done, but I can't ever see it or anything else on the horizon compare with the scope of Minecraft. As it is, after 4 years of personalising my view of the game, it's not so easy to leave it alone for anything else. My city has long since begun to feel like an actual place and when away from the PC I regularly day dream (when given the opportunity) what new things I can build there. At the end of a busy day, it's an incredibly zen-like experience to wander around starting new things and improving little details. The movie 'Inception' springs to mind here!
Don't worry I still like wandering around the real world and building 'real' stuff too.
Bukkit self destructing was a fairly significant blow to the community. I think it will remain fairly quiet around here till they actually get the API done.
Hadn't heard of TUG before, I might have to check that out. I've been poking SpaceEngineers myself which is probably best described as Minecraft In Spaaaaaaaace.

Yeah, sounds about right. The massive portion of the playerbase that is medium-sized children playing because it's the cool game to play, however, will likely move on eventually.

I'm only just picking up on the Bukkit side of things...I was quite oblivious really. I did see in the news that the Mojang crew are still working on an update to 1.8 to fix ongoing problems, so that's encouraging.
Yeah...I happened upon TUG through a reference to it on the 'Life is Feudal' forum on Steam. Was very pleasantly surprised by how nice it looks and how well they've put things together, but it looks like the team that's working on it have been let down by some major investor so development is expected to slow down a bit. I think I'm right in thinking it only works on Window's systems that can manage directx 11 at the moment and there's no multiplayer at this present time...infinite worlds though! It's currently only £6 quid here in the UK and expected to rise in price by the end of October. Well worth the money, even at this early stage of development.
I have Space Engineers too! Very striking game visually, but found it heavy going playing it with my sons as they are much quicker than I now at learning new systems, so I ended up drifting off into deep space until I found a planet called Minecraft again!
I also very much like the look of 'Planet Explorers' which seems to be very well received on Steam and looks to be a very cool sandbox game.
Steam keeps throwing all these sandbox games at me now as recommendations...it obviously knows what I like ( ), so I'm greatly enjoying the new format they introduced recently.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. There's an awful lot of players out there who just play the latest craze that everyone is playing at school, or only interested while there are new toys being dished out, but as wonderful as survival can be I think the long term interest comes from being interested in how far you can push things, whether it be cool redstone machines, epic constructions or creating and playing massive adventure maps. It's going to take any other developer years to catch up with Minecraft's scope, if that's even possible now, and I haven't as yet come across anything that allows as much creative freedom to personalize things
As I say, so long as I can access a working version of 1.8 and MCPatcher with my pack I'll always be mucking around trying to improve stuff in my world.
I've got an idea for the texturepack...
Since the sponge block finally have achieved its original purpose, then it would almost be logical to texture it as some kind of pump!
It's just an idea.
Howdy, mate! Long time, no see!
I think you'll find that's already been done by Squid in his 'Steamy' pack.
I'm quite happy with what I've done so far in having a a decorative wrought ironwork design for the dry sponge and a rusted dripping version for the wet sponge. However, that's not to say I might not look at it again as a more functional design. Unfortunately, I've used that sponge block design of mine in many constructions around my city, so it would have serious consequences changing it to a pump.
It might be possible to make a design that looks both decorative (meaning it can be used repeatedly) and still look like some kind of pump. Unfortunately I'm concentrating on other areas of the update at the moment and still trying to sort out my chaotic hard drives of 4 years of GS working textures. No rest for the wicked, eh?!
Glimmar! Your resource pack is great! I just <3 it. Here are some screenshots of my steampunky-ish hot air balloons.
Many thanks, Alec!
Love the airships. Oh... and welcome to the forums too.
You're a brave one to be using the pack in 1.8 (at least it looks like 1.8 with the spruce fence posts)! My update is going slow, but hopefully will be worth the wait.
I created a forum account just to thank you for your work on your excellent texture pack. You are truly an artist and have provided hours of enjoyment to many people around the world. Your new textures look fantastic, particularly the structural glass. Below are a few modest suggestions for 1.8. Please don't take them too seriously, however, as I know you must remain true to your own artistic vision.
One way to deal with the red sandstone more quickly might be to use the slots to expand or extend an existing texture. I find the coal, iron, nether quartz ore, and end stone blocks particularly useful in achieving a steam punk look. These are truly excellent metal textures that are markedly different from the varieties of wood and stone. A full set of slabs / stairs based on any of these textures would add a lot of possibilities, and the base blocks could include variants for normal / smooth, chiseled. Similarly, it might be quite useful if one or more of the wooden fence / gate textures would match an metal existing texture, such as the coal, iron, or end stone blocks.
Also, your original purple and yellow stained clay textures (bricks) that appear in the block selector look great, as do the sculpted stone that appears when the blocks are placed. It would be great to be able to use both. One possibility would be to use one of your original bricks textures for the blue or red hardened clay, which I find a bit less useful than the brick textures in a steam punk environment.
Next, while I love the current Bookshelf texture and use it frequently, it would be great to also have an actual bookshelf somewhere in the pack for building libraries if you ever find a suitable block that is underutilized.
Finally, if you feel that you still have a long way to go to finish all of the textures for 1.8, would it be possible to arrange a partial release? I'm sure everyone would love to start using the new material in 1.8, even if there are some subsequent modifications or additions.
I hope that you continue to find your work on your texture pack a rewarding experience. Best wishes.

Hi, fortunum and welcome to the forum. I'm very honoured you joined just to say thanks.
You've also got a lot of very useful ideas and observations there, particularly the one involving gates. I haven't done anything yet with regard to the new ones, but they're definitely worth looking into making them more useful...although I'm not sure that MCPatcher will allow me to change the gate/fence texture yet. If you've seen the early new WIP pics of the new 1.8 doors you'll see that's how I've tried to approach things, by not sticking literally to the material you'd make them from in survival and going for textures that might have more applications.
I also agree it might be nice to try and have at least one set of steps that looks to be made of metal. Obviously the quartz set has enameled metal steps, but it would be cool to have something that looks a little like black cast iron or rusted steel. I'm not sure quite how I'd jig things into place...I quite easily get confused trying to get things balanced without utterly ruining things for existing longstanding builds. I have and always will look at making things more useful for balanced construction within the theme.
The jungle log, which is currently the weakest of the bunch is going to be made into a new 64x metal texture that should be very useful for construction purposes in an industrial steampunk setting, however it should still look ok as a jungle tree. It would have been nice to have been able to follow through on that idea and make all the jungle wood metallic in nature, but I imagine if I changed things around now it would really be a great deal breaker for many that still use my pack. Except that my thinking has placed the new black enameled riveted door in the role of 'jungle wood' door. Ideally if I could switch the current spruce wood planks with the teak look jungle wood planks things would look more consistent. As mentioned, I'm not very good with such quandaries.
My other dilemma has always been lack of time to really go back over rushed textures that were fitted in to meet an update deadline. I agree, whilst useful in the realm of steampunk, the 'filing cabinet/chemist drawers' texture for the bookcases, does render it unusable in a library setting. I've been wanting to randomise and 'upgrade' that particular texture for some time though, but so many other things keep grabbing my attention, both in the game and real life. The bookcase was always a toss-up between cabinets of vials and test-tubes, filing drawers and books. I hadn't really considered using another block entirely as a bookcase texture. I'm not sure which block could be considered for that role, but I'll keep an open mind.
The hardened stained clay is also another area that was filled with things in a rush to be returned to later to include some proper marble, plaster, tile and random brick textures. I'm not sure I'll have a lot of time in the short term to make any sweeping changes, but it is my intention to change all the current 4 course brick textures to 6 course varieties as they are proportionally more accurate and will be more distinct from the cobblestone texture.
All the new prismarine blocks are to be made of metal of some sort, and I'm considering some kind of random black control panels for the dark prismarine...something similar to the beacon block gui. If they're randomised then I wouldn't be considering any animation...it would be too much work and would probably add too much lag in the long run. I'm still searching for a good set of textures for these blocks, but I'm at least nearer in terms of ideas.
As is usual these days, I've been very busy with family and work tasks, however, this past week I finished up on the doors, made some new randomised 'farmland' to match the new ctm dirt, fixed a few issues between my pack, the beta MCPatcher and MC 1.8 and experimented on a new idea for one of the paintings that involves animation, but doesn't result in something that looks to be moving...'The Phantom Bill Poster' I'd call it for a throwaway clue. I'm quite pleased with the effect it has, as it effectively adds a lot more variety around town without the need for a painting mod. I might re-purpose another stained-glass painting (especially as we have real stained glass in game now) for a similar purpose. I'd more regularly show you pics of these new things, but that in itself can take up a whole evening!
Once I'm happy with the way things behave with MCPatcher, I'm not averse to the idea of releasing an unfinished WIP update, however there are still some anomalies I'm not happy with at present and I'm still waiting to see if the next MCPatcher update fixes 'em. ANY WIP update at the moment would also be very much an MCPatcher only version as I've just not had time to go back over individual default textures for use with vanilla MC. So I'd be taking a risk of criticism from those who use the pack without the patcher.
Many thanks for the kind comment and suggestions, fortunum, I'm glad the old pack is still giving pleasure to some, it makes my work feel like it has a little more purpose to it than just entertaining my own construction urges.
edit: I've just re-read your comment again and the idea of re-purposing the red sandstone for something more steampunk style, especially as it has a set of steps, etc. is worth considering. In the short term it will probably still be a sandstone variant until I have time to consider what it also might be used for, and I'd like to live with it for a while to see if it really would be possible to deviate so far from the norm.
Yay! Just received really good news from citricsquid at Curse Support, after I sent in a request regarding my sig not working. Apparently my sig had been identified as spam, so had been disabled. All fixed now, though! Many thanks to Curse Support to whom I am extremely grateful! Thanks guys!
Now I just need to get round to gutting my OP for a leaner, meaner look! Pack comes first though, so I'll leave the OP until I'm ready to upload a WIP update.
I've also had help from kwerti, over on the MCPatcher thread that's fixed a long-standing issue with my random plants that was really bugging me, and a useful suggestion from HunterBlackbrick (same place) regarding finding the true name of each and every block in-game (especially those pesky half blocks and steps) for CTM purposes (never thought to activate the F3 key!)...thanks to you guys!
Fire away on the pump texturing challenge, guys and I'll stick any efforts in the next 'GS Alternative Textures' download. That is if I can sort out my flippin' OP! I'll be stickin' with the decorative ironwork texture for the main pack though.
Second, and you've probably answered this many times before, but is the pack in 1.8 yet or are we going to need to download an extension pack. if we need an extension, is it out yet, again sorry for asking a question that is likely obvious.
Second, and you've probably answered this many times before, but is the pack in 1.8 yet or are we going to need to download an extension pack. if we need an extension, is it out yet, again sorry for asking a question that is likely obvious.
I'm never annoyed by anyone asking if the pack is being worked on, I'm glad folk are still interested in my grand old resource pack, and the short answer is 'no' it's not out yet, but will be as soon as possible.
Currently I'm still fixing lots of things that 1.8 broke, adding new things that came with 1.8 (not everything at once though). Experimenting with a few new cool things and upgrading stuff as and when I can work on it. Currently real life is mad busy though...when is it not?!
I will update as soon as I can and when I feel the game won't look broken. Currently I'm not able to get mip-mapping to work which is annoying for a lot of the new textures I made back in spring. I'm trying to get all the new 1.8 textures finished, bar the new prismarine blocks, Guardians and banners...to speed the release up I might leave the new items till later too.
Hope that answers your question and reassures you that I'm doing my best, when I'm able and when the enthusiasm isn't on the wain to get a working (for use with MCPatcher) 1.8 version of the pack out. I can say it's going well at the moment and when I'm not tired I'm very enthusiastic about the new GSv16 building elements. At this moment I'm working on upgrading some of the hardened clay textures and brick...over the next few days I will be working on red sandstone and the new smooth stones.
I should have started by saying, welcome to the MC forums. I'm really glad you still like the pack, Crazy_Weasel and my sincere apologies this update is taking so long.

Curse PremiumNow I just need to get round to gutting my OP for a leaner, meaner look!

Curse PremiumFirst off, I love your pack. It's amazing.
Second, and you've probably answered this many times before, but is the pack in 1.8 yet or are we going to need to download an extension pack. if we need an extension, is it out yet, again sorry for asking a question that is likely obvious.

Curse PremiumI'm never annoyed by anyone asking if the pack is being worked on, I'm glad folk are still interested in my grand old resource pack, and the short answer is 'no' it's not out yet, but will be as soon as possible.
