Glad the bunnies seem ok to you guys and thank you for the very undeserved positive comments.
As regards the sound pack idea, it is simply down to the amount of extra work it would represent as to why I haven't done anything up to now. I have the equipment to record original sounds. I have some useful sound resource websites that provide open source sound clips (but it would still be necessary to seek permission if you were going to be redistributing the sounds) and I have a number of good sound editors. It's really all a question of time and most of all a question of taste. The wrong sound can very quickly become the most annoying thing in the universe.
I'm not averse to the idea of anyone having a go at making a sound pack, it's been done before, and the project would make a nice little shop window in the Mod Emporium. The things I would most like to change if I had the time would be some of the atmospheric sound clips, to hint at large machines and steam engines in the distance, clanking of factory hammers, distant steam horns and church bells similar to the sounds I included in my vids over a year ago. I put a lot of time into editing those sounds into the video and I guess that's what put me off working on a sound pack.
For me, the visual textures always have to take a priority and you already know I'm struggling to keep up in that department.
If someone does have a go at a sound pack, I'd suggest keeping them simple and try to make a number of separate packs for different atmospheric purposes. Perhaps a 'factory complex' pack, a 'maritime' pack, 'airship' pack, 'city' pack, etc. so's users can pick and choose according to their taste or project.
The beauty of some of the normal MC sounds is that they're pretty ambiguous, and as annoying as the villager sounds are they can at least fit with both automaton and human mobs. It's a very brave person who would take on editing the sounds for this pack, because I don't believe in going fully mechanical with my random mobs and as the pack can be used for anything from classical through medieval to futuristic retro industrial architecture, it would be difficult to find sounds to fit all those styles, so that's why I don't envisage one sound pack being part of the main resource pack download.
So the above are just my thoughts on the matter, but as I said, like any other alternative texture or additional mod texture, so long as you follow the rules appertaining to copyright, I would welcome any sound packs being made available for use in the Mod Emporium.
Here's a few sound library links to get any interested parties started:
^ I highly recommend this website. Absolutely massive collection of weird and wonderful sounds and where I pieced together the sounds for some of my Newglim city videos.
^ another amazing resource for weird and wonderful music, but it would be necessary to seek permission before using any music for a publicly available download.
Also, have a look at Squid_Empire's 'Steamy' pack, he's got some fantastic sounds in there and his examples would certainly be a good spring board for inspiration as to what could be done.
.....GS v16 MC 1.8 White & White-Splotched Rabbit WIP!
As the title suggests, here are a few pics of the white and white_splotched rabbit. I now have something to work on for the Caerbannog automaton killer rabbit.
Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!
Haha! That white_splotched rabbit looks like it's had it's head stuck up a chimney! Either that or it's got a nice little mustachio on the way! I suppose it's begging for a little monocle to be fixed over one eye, but I do try to keep things within the bounds of reason. I might be tempted if MCPacther works for random rabbits. It would be very Alice in Wonderland to have a rare little mustachioed rabbit with a monocle looking quizzically up at you. Lol!
I can't wait to where my wifi starts working and I can really start downloading minecraft stuff again! I can't download anything... not even glimmer!
Hope you get things fixed soon.
Our internet connection is pretty reliable these days, but in early summer we had a massive thunderstorm and that took out the cable at the front of the house and blew up the modem inside...completely fried it. Stupidly the provider assumed the problem had been fixed later that day when the main exchange was back up and running, even though I'd reported our modem has having blown up. They even had the cheek to text me, without checking, to say our connection had been fixed, so had cancelled a visit from the engineer and they were glad we could now be enjoying the internet again! So we had to re-book another engineer...took a week instead of 2 days!
So you have my sympathies, whatever the circumstances.
Damn, I'm blind and dumb... I thought this one was the killer rabbit...:
That's why I had mad this comment/reference...
Anyway, great job, as usual!
Haha! No worries, mate. I actually thought you were referring to the white_splotched rabbit which does look a bit more sinister than the others.
No, the white rabbit is all fluff and innocence, but the killer rabbit will use the white rabbit as it's 'outer' skin, becoming a 'brass terminator in a bunny's clothing' so to speak.
Working on it right now...
If I don't reappear, then you'll know something went terribly wrong with the experiment.
I think I mostly survived my encounter with the Caerbannog automaton killer rabbit (hang on though... let me check I've got all my peripherals intact ... yup! Phew! That's a relief!
Now thats one hell of a terminator bunny Glim, fantastic mate...."I'll be back" to keep an eye on this bunnny Excellent work Glim mate.
Haha!
This could be the future of rabbit pest control...don't worry I love rabbits as much as anyone...just send in a terminator bunny when you've been overrun by bunnies, strangely mirroring the situation humans find themselves in after Skynet takes over.
let me gues, its the evil one that attacks you in vanilla, right?
Sure is ...except as I haven't checked to see how one goes about activating the Caerbannog rabbit I just renamed it as the white rabbit. Curiously though, all the screenshots I took show it being shunned or stared at from a distance by all the other rabbits! Obviously nothing different than normal MC rabbit behaviour...just something we would expect of the other rabbits I suppose if they had a weird abomination in their midst, but suddenly noticeable and amusing.
Lots of potential and, like any of the mobs really, easily open to lots of variation...haha...but who has the time to make detailed alts these days with so many new things! It was nice of Mojang to provide a rare rabbit that could be converted to hint at a mechanical interior, without it having to pop up in the natural world of bunnies.
Only problem is it's taken me a couple of weeks to make these bunny dudes and there's a lot more stuff to plough through. Real life is just flippin' busy at the moment and my pen/mouse arm only allows me so long before pins and needles sets in and I have to do something different. Mind you, if Microsoft end up buying Mojang/Minecraft, it might not be worth the effort if they lock down modding.
wow, this would,ve been the dumbest thing in the history of mankind since hitler ...
but luckly this can not happen simply buz mojang plans to add modding API, wich is specificaly made for mods
Drop 2 billion dollars into Notch's lap and see how important the promised API is then. Apparently, according to the gossip news Notch approached Microsoft. If Microsoft do buy Mojang/Minecraft for that amount, you can bet they aren't doing it for charitable or community reasons.
Incidentally, the promised API is no nearer to being implemented than it was 3 years ago. For 3 years everyone has always hoped we were just one update away from the magical API and every update we are still at least another update away!
I'm not sure what plans Microsoft would have for a free to use modding API, but if it doesn't help them recoup their 2 billion dollar investment, can you imagine that they would give it their blessing? Over time there would be massive changes, and I'm not as confident as some that those changes would always be in the interests of a free spirited PC Indi community.
Anyways, at the moment it's all conjecture and I'm plodding along slowly but surely towards version 16 of this pack. However, Like everyone else I shall be keeping an eye on this possible sellout....it would likely effect my long term interest in MInecraft.

My computer otherwise is slow but normal. I do do alot of minecraft downloads but I've never been able to understand why this happened. Never before have I run into this problem....

I've checked my download and it seems to be ok, so I hope you get the downloading sorted at your end. Are you able to download other packs from the Curse website? If it's just my pack you can't download for some reason, then perhaps I could stick it up on MediaFire for a while and you could try downloading it from there. Let me know.
I love Starbound...I bought it when it first came out on Steam, but I haven't played it in an age. I bought some other similar games in a Humble Bundle deal to take on holiday, all similar Terraria style games, things my aging laptop can still run, but as is always the case family fun outdoors didn't leave much energy for anything in the evening. I guess we're all suckers for sandbox games that seem limitless in scope.
... i knew the humanity was falling down step by step unholdable ...
Whatever happens to Minecraft, it's a great time to be playing games now, as it seems programmers and sensible developers have finally realized that a great number of personal computer users like to be able to experiment out of the box. Episodic DLC is great and all that, but it doesn't satisfy everyone, especially those with imagination and creativity flowing in their blood. For most of us Minecrafters, especially on these forums, it's about touching procedural infinity, or at least the illusion of endlessness. Minecraft is...might soon be 'was' ...a place you felt had no boundaries. That's what good Indi Devs give you, the ability to make their creations even better, for them and for everyone else who joins in.
Big corporations only have one objective, to satisfy their shareholders and maintain their dominance in the marketplace, 'everything' else is sales speak. Big corporations are not in the business of giving their customers freedom to do whatever they want with their property, wherever possible they create a demand so that they can make regular income from parceling out smaller and smaller dlc for the maximum amount of profit. Sadly, Microsoft has a track record of buying up already successful gaming franchises purely to shore up their own platform. Whatever platitudes Mojang come out with now, as seen in today's letters, about Microsoft continuing the world of Minecraft as normal for the community, they are hollow words...they don't make the decisions anymore, Microsoft executives do that from now on...and they only really listen to their investment masters!
I certainly understand where Notch is coming from, when he says it's all become too much for him, I get that feeling all the time, so he has my genuine sympathies, however, I think he's being disingenuous in his letter to say, "It's not about the money". Perhaps with the fortune he has already accumulated, he could have done what he originally said he was going to do, walk away and, being the major shareholder of Mojang, take the decision to make the game open source...effectively giving it to the community. He would then still be living luxuriously to the end of his days, but with the added bonus of being able to bask in the well-being flowing from a grateful community, which to be fair, was equally responsible for making Minecraft so successful. In fairness to Notch though, I probably would have done the same thing...taken the money and run for the hills!
Like any right-minded person, I think any hate comments Notch has/will receive are entirely inappropriate. However, the internet being what it is, I'm not sure he will have made his life any easier by selling out to one of the worlds largest corporations. According to his 'leaving' letter he wanted to go back to a quiet life of programming free from stress and abuse...unfortunately, I think that's even more unlikely now.
In the short term I don't think we'll see much change to Minecraft on the PC, but over the long term I'm not very optimistic.

Let's just hope Microsoft doesn't pull a jerk move and make minecraft xbox and windows only.....
Hopefully they will allow Searge to finish the MCP and we can have mods for the last Mojang release. I see moving MC to C# but I don't see them stopping resource pack development. I don't think they'll kill modding since that and the resource packs are what make the community so passionate. Microsoft desperately wants to be more relevant in the cloud and this is their way in. Now that the evil duo is gone, we may have some hope.
I've never been part of an acquisition that went well for the employees. I hope Notch takes care of them because M$ won't. And M$ stated they will be making the ROI by the end of 2015, so I see more charges coming, with the first being Minecraft 2.0.

At least we can keep our old versions.
The ROI will come mostly from the merchandising. You can hardly turn around in any of the big box stores without bumping into a stand full of Minecraft stuff. I'm expecting them to leave the actual game mostly alone and instead to do stuff like a Minecraft Cartoon.

In the short term I don't think we'll see much change to Minecraft on the PC, but over the long term I'm not very optimistic.
lol yeah, as soon as I get my downloading fixed I'm probably gonna get it!
I have no idea what's going on... I can't seem to download ANYTHING..... even unminecraft stuff like programs, files, ect. NOTHING.....
Let's just hope Microsoft doesn't pull a jerk move and make minecraft xbox and windows only.....
I've never been part of an acquisition that went well for the employees. I hope Notch takes care of them because M$ won't. And M$ stated they will be making the ROI by the end of 2015, so I see more charges coming, with the first being Minecraft 2.0.
At least we can keep our old versions.

Curse PremiumThe ROI will come mostly from the merchandising. You can hardly turn around in any of the big box stores without bumping into a stand full of Minecraft stuff. I'm expecting them to leave the actual game mostly alone and instead to do stuff like a Minecraft Cartoon.
