Just noticed it's been about a month and a half since Glim last posted. IIRC he mentioned he would be busy for awhile IRL. I care less about an update of the pack than an update on him. So I hope you have just been busy, Glim, and that nothing untoward has happened.
Last post by Glimmar was early April, it's now late May… I hope it's just busyness with RL work and family that's been keeping him away and that he'll be back soon. I'd hate to see this pack disappear…

Seeing as Glimmar is on leave from the forum, I have a few questions about the use of his resource pack that maybe could be answered here? It seems like there are a few folks about who know what's going on pretty well. I want to begin construction on a resource pack for an upcoming server. The pack will essentially be Glimmar's Steampunk with some of the textures moved around and some textures from Glimmar's alternative stuff, in addition to some textures that I will be creating. This will (eventually) be a pack I would like to distribute to users of my server in accordance with the conditions listed in the legal documentation. Specifically the following.
If you are using 'Glimmar's Steampunk' Texture Pack with just a few modifications (for your server or adventure map), post a single download link to your modified pack in the Owner's MC Forums Glimmar's Steampunk thread (ie. post your link in my thread), to which all traffic for GS downloads must be directed from your own thread. This means I get fair recognition for my original work, and your users understand properly where the textures you are borrowing came from.
Clear and appropriate credit and a link to my Minecraft Forums 'Glimmar's Steampunk' texture pack thread must be given at all times on your main public page (ie. not tucked away at the bottom of your thread or webpage!).
The legal section uses some vague language and I wanted to make sure I'm allowed to do certain things to the pack. I'll list all of the specific things I would like to do with the pack as clearly as possible.
Swap internal textures
Modify the pack by switching one texture for another via renaming the textures withing the pack e.g. switching the texture of brick and cactus by exchanging the names of brick.png and cactus_bottom.png.
Swap alternate textures
Modify the pack through the inclusion of specific textures from alternatives provided on the original post of this thread e.g. replace the texture of brick by replacing brick.png with an alternative brick.png
Use custom made textures
Create custom textures and replace textures within the Glimmars Steampunk pack e.g. create a texture with photo editing software named brick.png and use it to replace the default brick.png present in the pack.
Use Glimmar's textures for reference
Create original content while viewing textures made by Glimmar as a visual reference to maintain consistency of the pack. Use photo editing software to take color samples from textures made by Glimmar. This does not include the use of photo editing software to duplicate textures whole or in part made by Glimmar.
Relinquish ownership of my own product
If you so desire, I'm fine with any of the content I create ending up as part of the Glimmar pack.

I believe that all the above is acceptable. Glimmar has in the past allowed users to modify his textures, swap textures around inside the pack, swap them with alternate textures, and include custom made textures, especially when it comes to mod textures and the like. He has also accepted fan-made textures which he had incorporated into his "alternate textures" folder, including recolors and alterations of his work, and he has made a point to give proper credit to those who created/modified the textures. The only major thing he doesn't allow is using textures from other packs, but it sounds like you're planing on making yours either straight from this pack or from scratch, so you should be OK there. It's been a while since someone has modified the textures for a server, so I can't guarantee that this is all 100% correct, but going off of what Glimmar has allowed in the past, it should be OK. Just make sure that you have it posted here and link to the thread as is required by the the legal work and you should be fine. You may also want to PM Glimmar when you do post it so he'll be more likely to see it when he returns.
It's possible that Glimmar might include a link in the OP with proper credit (assuming that's OK with you, and assuming he remembers to do so next time he updates the OP), although again I'm not entirely sure on that. I believe he has in the past included links to public servers that use the texture pack, so I could see him including a link to your server (assuming it's public) and add the link to the alternate download there. Again, this is conjecture based on previous actions taken by Glimmar, but it is a possibility.

I have another use case that is more tricky, here is a direct example. I'm including Dye Trees in my mod pack, and would like the different colored leaves (which are presently recolored vanilla Minecraft leaves) to match those present in the Glimmar Steampunk pack. To do this I would want to replicate the texture and adjust the hue on the leaves present in the Glimmar pack for each color of Dye Tree.
Functionally modify textures within the pack
Modify the hue, saturation, and lightness of textures within the pack through the use of photo editing software. This is for the purpose of extending textures present in the Glimmar pack to accompanying mod packs.
Again, that should be completely fine, and there is plenty of precedent for this. Also, if you would be willing to provide the mod retextures as a separate file as well as bundled with your server-specific pack, I'm sure Glimmar would be more than willing to include that in the Mod Textures section. We could always use more people working on mod retextures, as a lot of those who had been working on those have either become quite busy with other stuff or just stopped posting altogether. I'm sure that there would be plenty of interest in Dye Tree support for this pack, as well as any other mods you might be working with.

That's great! The pack I'm putting together has a lot of stuff in it, so I'd like to do a lot of quick and dirty Glimmar Steampunk pack extensions in this manner. At the very least these will act as nice placeholders until actual textures can be made. Thanks again for your fast response ksheep, you're awesome.
Not a problem. Hopefully all that I said is still true, but as far as I know it should be. That's how it's been for the past year and more, so unless Glimmar decided to change something without telling anyone, you should be in the clear. Also, I'd love to see what you come up with. It's always neat to see what other people do with this pack.
Just wondering, since you said you're using mods, are you using a custom mod list, or are you using a pre-made mod pack?

Custom mod list. That's actually what we are working on right now is putting all that together. Thaumcraft is probably to core of it but we have a lot of peripheral stuff as well. The theme is magical technology kind of like the Ebberon or some of the Final Fantasy games. We are making a pretty detailed history and lore for the world as well as building a lot of set pieces. We have big plans but we are just starting out, so well see how many of our dreams can be made into reality.

I am still around ... was completely off line for the last two weeks. I do have another update that I will be distributing soon.

a very creative and beautiful resource pack that I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys a technological look to a game with a large nature.
This goes monsterously well with large structures or tight, compact corridors on board your large submarine I may or may not have made.
Anything new to show?
Glimm was one of the ones expressing concern when Misa whet very quiet so I would think he will be in touch soon.
If you're out there old bean, hope life is treating you well and you have your feet up somewhere
2010.
Glimmar is fine. Stressed and busy, probably, but fine.
I know he'll be back. And he can take as long as he likes, because we've already sapped four years of his time.
That said, miss ya bud, can't wait to see what you have in store for us.

I could see the new Guardians as some sort of animatronic naval mine, what with their spikes:
EDIT: Fixed pic link. Hopefully this one allows for hot linking…
SECOND EDIT: Apparently the first image wasn't broken, it was just my internet acting up and not letting it load… ¬_¬
