Does anyone have an idea that I can use for the stone sword? I made a small dagger for it, but it just doesn't feel right.
Edit: Here it is, just in case you want to know what's wrong.
It just doesn't feel steampunkish (danke) enough.
I'm not wanting to sit on the fence here, but I agree with Triskelli, this design works really well and seems to suggest a found flint shard fixed in a brass holder designed for the purpose. It's a cool looking little weapon. On the other hand I agree with bcj42 that Steampunk is big enough in it's scope for explorers to have collected all sorts of esoteric items in their travels.
I think almost anything is possible when you think along the lines of a character like Nemo or Sherlock Holmes. We're talking 'Victoriana' here, which is what i very nearly called this texture pack. The Victorians loved to collect things from around the empire and beyond. This is the theme's strength in my opinion. Long after the items sheet is complete, I would hope interested parties will still be adding strange new items to appeal to different tastes. I would imagine it won't be long before we have the use of a clever mod or editor which will allow us to change items and textures in-game and drop new things into it from outside. Therefore choosing what we want for ourselves will be easier,
In any event, I love the stone 'dagger' and it's going to the top with the rest. Thanks, Tlos.
I foresee a problem when I have to put an official item sheet together, or select one that is already made by one of you, as to what to use and include in the pack. Obviously voting on each item would be impossibly tedious, so I hope you'd all be happy for me to pick and choose, based on what i think are the most popular and appropriate. Then listen to feedback and change things as required or as new things came in. What do you think?
I still want everyone's submissions to be available for people to cut and paste, but I will have to choose my favourites for an item sheet if I haven't produced my own version, as there are so many out there who can't, or can't be bothered, to mess with cutting and pasting.
Ok ppl here is a item.png for convience use if your prone to cut and paste ^^
Red background is modified items by me or Glimmar, haxjagarn, Heftig, Tlos & other authors
Green background alternative items, where I did not find a place for atm.
All Items not highlighted are ONLY placeholders and belong to other packs/authors I DO NOT CLAIM TO HAVE CREATED THESE!
and the usable items.png for ingame, just rename put into the *.zip in the folder 'gui' (backup items.png before!):
and the armor cloth_1.png, cloth_2.png folder armor either make a folder in the zip or put directly in minecraft.jar after backup of original:
Either design your own armor or shoot me some ideas for clothes/armors that would fit steampunkish theme.
Any Feedback & Ideas are more than welcome also criticise :wink.gif:
Well, you're doing an awesome job so far, Tiger4Ruler. At this rate I may not need to do anything at all! :smile.gif: At the very least you're giving me time to work on other things, so I'm very grateful.
Can I give you some ideas of things I would be working on: old style canvas diving suit, hasmat suit, powered armour (all brass and pistons). Any others I'll post as they come to me. I think Triskelli mooted quite a few ideas back through the thread, amongst others, but that's a task to trawl through.
On my item sheet I would be representing the diamond as a pile of different precious stones (emerald, sapphire as well as diamond, until Notch gives more gems to find, I've represented the diamond ore block as a conglomeration of precious stones so that I had more freedom to make a diamond and gold block with glittering decoration.
Buckets would be brass with rivetted sides, perhaps some ornamentation or mechanical attachment.
I'll see about setting some time aside this weekend to work on the 'inventory' and 'container' screens. If you haven't already beaten me to it! :biggrin.gif: Then we can start using these items in the pack. :smile.gif:
You're doing a great job though and making me feel guilty!

sorry, haven't read topic before posting, great work, Tirer4Ruler!
Brilliant - more tools, gizmos and gadgets the better. This place is going to look like a hardware store soon (me like hardware stores ). :biggrin.gif:
I'm going to start on the dagger shortly, thanks for the feedback. Though Tiger, again you might want to be careful for that harpoon rifle, as ingame you're going to be aiming it at your head.
I'm also thinking up ideas for new swords.
Wood:cane
Stone: (Aztec) dagger
Iron: a sword of some kind? Likely a serviceable, maybe mechanized sword.
Gold: Ornate Canesword (like this
Diamond: Power gauntlet? (powered by redstone.)
Maybe we could have something like this for armor as well (just a thought)
Leather: Suit (like we currently have)
Chainmail: ignored, not in game
Iron: A diving suit of some kind?
Gold: Aviator's suit? (aviator helmet w/ goggles, bomber jacket, etc with gold for the metal?)
Diamond: Alchemist's gear? ( goggles and a robe?)
I also feel like making the other tools as well, even though we already have replacements for them, but I wish not to stretch this post more than needed.
Glimmar, feel free to pick any ones you want, or none at all, it's your choice.
Edit: Got one!
Aztec dagger for the stone sword.
How is it?
I was trying to make that Aztec dagger, with a few changes. I changed it to stone and shortened it a bit. I thought I made the handle too long, but it fits your character perfectly.
As Triskelli says, try not to go too far over the top folks. Not that anyone is at the moment, but items should remain within the boundaries of Victorian inventiveness with the addition of some future science. I'm not going to reject anything you do though - unless you try passing off an elf in frilly dress or something - as some way out gadget will appeal to someone's idea of steampunk. Iconic cream of mushroom soup has definately got to be in! :smile.gif:
Somewhere amongst the axes should be a steampowered chainsaw affair.
Don't forget we need a crowbar somewhere
@GTG3000: Love the can and the can of soup! :smile.gif:
Just the stuff for taking on expeditions and in my opinion will look far better lining our storage chests in ships and subs, etc. More so than bowls of soup (has no-one questioned the perishable nature of stored soup in this game. Health and safety would have a field day! Lol! :biggrin.gif:)
@Tlos: Agree with you on all the suit ideas except the alchemists gear. It leans a bit too far towards the wrong time period and theme. I'd love the Diamond suit to be along the lines of a steampowered armoured suit of some kind. Though it would have to be sufficiently different than the canvas and diving helmeted iron suit. The other suit ideas are awesome though.
Tlos, do as many tools as you want, you've done amazing stuff so far and I look forward to every little gadget you do. :biggrin.gif: Especially like the Aztec weapon. It looks sufficiently mysterious and museum like.
@ Sinlesraptor: Many thanks for your praise. It's very encouraging and just like everyone's ideas and input, gets me in the frame of mind to work harder.
Many thanks all of you. You make working on this theme a thing of pleasure and it's nice to bounce ideas around like this. :smile.gif:
PS. I'm just putting the finishing touches to the steampunk version of ejhopkins' '2D Wild Growing Grass' mod: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=100771, Perhaps a bit premature as I haven't even tested the mod yet!
@ Tiger4Ruler: Flip! Your fast! You did all those changes while I was typing this. Ninja'd hardly describes speed like that. An excellent job!
Two things though: could the jewels be like a little heaped pile, and could the book have a blue cover? It's cool seeing the little diving helmet there! :biggrin.gif:
Another suggestion Tiger (i'm never going to get this post out!). I reckon Tlos's stone sword would look better in the place of the harpoon gun...the harpoon gun should move to the harpoon position... and the little float/hook thingy in the particles file could be made more grappling hook like, so that when you use the fishing rod(harpoon gun) it will work like it should and fire out a mini harpoon (float/hook thingy). How does that sound. Am I making sense? ! :/ Would it even work like that? If it did, we'd have two cool projectile weapons, without even evoking any mods! :biggrin.gif:
The records need to be switched to wax cylinders/ music rolls.
Ha ha! Yes. Could they be like the little musical box cylindar in my jukebox texture though? Just to really confuse newcomers! :biggrin.gif: It might look a little more brassy and have some connection with the device it's meant for. Am I the only person to have never actually seen a record yet? Mostly playing on peaceful it's not likely to happen is it! [Sorry, just conversing with myself here!]

Yeah, I had to think for a bit on that part, my only justification for that was a sort of an inventor, sans cloak. Maybe like this? I was meaning to use that, but chose the wrong word for it.
The steampowered armour would be an awesome feature, though. I can really see how it'd go with the diamond sword I'm planning on. sort of this gauntlet thing (but actually all metal, with various dials on it, and diamond plating on the knuckles)
This would have a few redstone wires running down it (your wired, not the dust trails). One thing I wish I could do though, is make puffs of redstone fly out of it, or maybe steam. I'm thinking of making the iron sword something like this, sans gun, I like that sort of blade. What do you think?

Ah! Yes, I see what you mean from the pic, more a kind of inventor! Yes that would fit really well. His strength would come from being laden with alsorts of gadgets, kind of like the little kid in the Goonies (one of my favourite films by the way!). Love the power glove, that would work really well, and those gunblades :smile.gif:
I know what you mean about little redstone puffs being available in other things...frustrating really, as it would look awesome on some items or the steampowered armour. :smile.gif:
@Triskelli: I knew you would come up with a few more excellent pics. That's one powerful looking armoured suit. Isn't there a clanky looking powered suit at the beginning of the first 'Ironman' movie? I don't mean to use that, but some aspects of it might give ideas. Fallout3 is jam packed with items of inspiration too, though it would be necessary not to stray too far in that direction as it's a theme in its own right.
@Tiger4Ruler: You deserve your sleep tonight for all those alterations. Great stuff!
I got the '2D Wild Growing Grass' mod to work with my version of the grass, but unfortunately I can't get it to work with the 'Better Grass' and 'Ambient Occlusion' mods. As soon as I install the files for the Wild Growing Grass mod I lose my two favourite mods. If I then try to install those mods again, I end up with a black screen when I run Minecraft!
Well, I'll include the grass textures in the next update, as I've done them, and if anyone wants to give it a try, you can decide which mods you prefer. I suspected that it might not work with Better Grass, but I'm disappointed it's not currently compatible with the AO mod. :sad.gif:
The other problem is that my current grass texture isn't busy enough to blend well with the verticle clumps of grass. Have a look in this sample pic:
Don't get me wrong though. This is one fantastic mod. To stand in the landscape and literally watch the grass grow and interact with things like torches placed on the ground (it destroys torches when grass grows on the same patch of dirt) or seeing mobs frolicking behind layers of long grass is quite beautiful. Having to cut the grass when it gets too long is a brilliant bit of interaction and I can envisage having a reason now why we'd have to construct cobble or gravel paths, just to keep the grass down in those areas we frequently walk. I just hope it can eventually work with the BG and AO mods. I'm really torn here! :sad.gif:
Another observation is that it's better to be on the same level as the grass, or looking up a slope, it's really very picturesque. Looking downhill or vertically down is less convincing, only because it looks so good from the other vantage points.
So, I don't know if this has been said or not but could make a mirror on any site besides MediaFire? I am one of the hand-full of people that can't get it to work but once a month or so. I have downloaded the version of this pack before the underwater helmet and such and would really like to update.

Awesome job, GTG3000, many thanks.
Lemme see if I can recall on my own
Wooden Bowl => Tin/Can
Soup => Cream of Mushroom Soup can
Iron/Gold Bar => More ingot like, nowhere near as smooth
Lightstone Dust => Pile of stained glass
Redstone Dust => Bundle of pipes
Axes => Just look at the different ways of chopping down trees
All I can say for the others is to not go too over the top and keep things recognizable, or just recreate what's in the game
and here's the soup
don't hit me hard.
