Hiya, mate. Here's a handkerchief...I'm not sure if it's worth shedding tears over. Mind you, I've been near to weeping tears of frustration after painstakingly blending what seems like acres of dirt...I think I'd rather dig the stuff than texture it...at least you sometimes get a bit of sunshine...well not so much in the UK!
By the way, if you do manage to get back into any supporting mod textures again, the offer is open to have a 'shop stall' banner and space in the new Mod Emporium in the OP for all your old or new stuff.
Looking like the bee's knee's Glim, very well done mate
Thanking you too, BullJaw.
Thanks for lookin' in you guys. I appreciate the company and the encouragement, especially while I'm trying to change such fundamental Minecraft textures. What might seem ok to me in my blind crawl through my old textures, might actually not look like an improvement at all to more critical onlookers.
I'm hoping to sculpt some furrowed dirt and possibly switch the snow and podzol (I think I've reverted to getting the spelling wrong over the past couple of pages!) over to the new dirt today - except I've been playing nurse to my youngest for the past couple of days...sick bowl in one hand and tablet stylus in the other!
As previously mentioned, I've got dirt set up a little more scientifically this time than my 4 year old original version. Everything is in multiple layers, so in the future, near or far, and subject to me remembering how it all fits together, I can change the color of dirt, embedded stones, grass edge, random side grass, etc. at will. For example, trying to make the dirt blend with gravel and stone made it rather too light for bare dirt in regions where there's an abundance of podzol, but it won't be an impossible task to tweak any offending colors, even given that there are hundreds of different random and repeat ctm textures to cut out each time.
I love how varied your biomes manage to look while the colours all still seem to blend together perfectly. I'm about to embark on redoing my dirt too, can only hope I manage to pull of something that works as well with my other textures like this does!

Really great work, can't wait to try it out.
Many thanks, mate.
I think we're both ploughing (no bad pun intended) through the same issues at the moment...changing those core textures that yes, might be basic unimportant building blocks, however always sitting there in the landscape everywhere you look, makes them the most difficult textures to get right.
I don't mind admitting it's been a nightmare task, and to be honest, one I've always been dreading. Now, realizing how many other textures are effected, I understand why my subconscious was warning me not to mess with stone and dirt! Once you improve on the stone, everything else in the landscape immediately needs urgent attention, well...they did in my pack! Clearly a 4 year old 32x texture is never going to cut-it sitting next to a brand new randomized 64x texture.
Even when everything looks ok using ctm, I've still got to go back and see what I can sift out for use as single tile vanilla textures...I see that's just going to be disappointing whichever way it goes...trying to get single block textures to tile whilst trying to retain some form of texture is an impossible task and just as time consuming as making 64 repeat ctm tiles!
Oh a banner? Sounds like it would be fun to make one, course Id have to have a pack to have a banner! Im not sure I could make a fancy banner anyways...
I swear Im gonna update that Better Than Wolves support one day if it kills me, I keep com in back every once in a while and updating a few blocks at a time, then I get sidetracked with tests or homework or whatnot. Ill see what I can do for a banner and pack this weekend and hopefully get some work done on it.

It doesn't have to be a complete set of something, Jester, so long as it's not just one or two colour edits. If it's something that might be of use to someone else, it gives you a clear space to offer your 'wares'. Think of it like the Victorian equivalent of a 'yard' (or as we have them here in the UK 'car-boot') sale, but I'd like to think of it more as a little 'curio' shop you discover down a cobbled side street!
Your 'Better than Wolves' set of textures might not be complete, but what you have might just contain what someone is looking for for that special look. Your shop might contain edited textures that could be used for other mods or as alts, so don't think of your shop as being a 'Better than Wolves Glimmar Mods' shop, think of it as an antique shop containing lots of different useful and pretty trinkets. Remember these days it's a lot easier for anyone to swap stuff in and out of the pack (with simple instructions of course) to change the look of things...so they don't need to have to cut and paste anymore!
Once you have a shop banner, you've got a space for you to look after and add any Glimmar-style texture edits you've made that might be of use for someone else. You take care of the download link, info instructions, link to a picture gallery - all enclosed in the spoiler under the banner. Visitors click on the banner just like they're entering a little old shop...I'd include the sound of an old shop door bell if I knew how! You'd layout the banner and spoiler contents and be responsible for it and post it in my thread or PM me and I'll include it in the Emporium amongst the other banners. If all I've got to do is squeeze any new edited spoiler under each 'shop keeper's' banner then it should be manageable for the near future.
So it's a system that doesn't put pressure on me or anyone taking part, though subject to the usual 'conditions' for using my textures for making alts.
Glad you see it that way too, because that's really the whole idea behind my pack...to make textures that work well at a distance, therefore, as good as I can make them for epic city building!
Have fun and let us see anything that might inspire others.
So, I picked up buildcraft to check out some of MegistusEligius' texture work, fantastic work btw, and I've run into a problem. The quarry drill and the construction tape give a flashing red texture.
Anyone know what the issue is?
I have not used a quarry in quite some time. I will fiddle around with the textures and see if I can get it to look correct. Kinda the issue on how I texture … generally only texture what I use. ;p
(Sorry about the delay in response … been out of the country for a couple of weeks)
Edit: I do plan on updating the textures for the framing for the quarry sometime soon. However, as I have tested the textures on my end, they do display the default textures for me, i.e. I cannot reproduce your issue. The only thing I can think may be an issue for you is the buildcraft version. This texture pack is for buildcraft-A-1.6.4-4.2.2 …
On another note, I will be adding a change log for the textures I upload and for what mod version number it is made for. I suggest that you take a look at the textures that are in the default mod you are using and compare them with the textures I have supplied.

Well, I've done some further testing and I've figured out that the problem originates with CTM. Not sure how to fix it, but at least I've figured out the source.
Ah, I see that this is more than just a simple banner, more like a full revamp of the organization of all Mod Textures for the pack then?
This is interesting indeed! Well Ill organize my pack's new and old content into a thread friendly format and let people do with it what they wish even in it unfinished state. I will try to post it here this or the following weekend, wouldn't want the effort Ive put in be a total waste!
Thanks for the info Glim, I had just thought everyone was making fancy banners!

For the Emporium to work, I'd still need you to make your own 'JesterxMailman89' banner...as a kind of shop front for your stuff, but as mentioned above, don't worry about how complete the set of textures are for the mods you've worked on.
The idea is that you'd be responsible for making the banner, and maintaining the content of downloadable material in the spoiler. Unfortunately I wouldn't have time to make you a banner, and without a banner your material would have to go in a general mod support download, still credited of course. A banner would give you better 'visible' credit and look much more interesting and attractive in the Emporium. If you want to include pics of textures, I would suggest the best way would be to have a link to something like an Imgur gallery. I think my OP wouldn't cope with many more pics!
There seems to be new interest in the airship and steamboat mods, but when splitting 'my' alt textures from that of 'user' submitted alt textures, I seemed to have messed up and not included the textures for both of these much loved mods. I'm in the process of compiling all the textures I made, including the icons, into a separate download to put in the Mod Emporium.
If there's more interest in these mods, I might be persuaded to make some more balloon designs...the emphasis on 'might be'.
I might have some new 'dirt' pics to show soon. I've been working on a lot of random textures to spice up the main dirt texture and make it look even more natural...that is if I can get the weighting of what appears where working properly. It goes without saying it represents a lot more ctm work and will of course stretch resources even more. More on this later if all goes well!
I wish this wasn't true, would save me so much time!
Still so far in your case I would say it's definitely worth it. The stone looked fantastic and now you've gone and pulled it off with your dirt too. Problem is that once you've started redoing one thing it just takes over and you can't stop till you've redone several major textures in your pack!
I think we've both done that at least a few times now, can't imagine how much mod support or whatnot we could have done if we were still pleased with our original textures. Mind you, I think redoing them does make us better for doing so. I know I feel my new textures are much improved over my old ones and I think yours are too.
Look forward to seeing those new dirt pics though, I always love admiring your ctm!

I suppose it's the curse or blessing of all artists, whichever way you look it, to be critical of one's efforts and thus we progress and make better stuff, well that's the hope!
Just don't go as far as a friend I had at art school once did, who after about two years through a 3 year degree course, destroyed every painting he'd ever done...all his coursework basically...in a mad bout of self criticism! He didn't do too well in his finals as I recall.
.....GS v16 New Dirt WIP Part 4 - Lots More Random Dirt!
Besides the 36 repeat dirt textures, 26 random grass_side textures and 20 random grass_side_overlay textures, they are now joined by 36 random dirt overlay textures featuring lots of boulders, rock formations and roots. Makes digging holes more pleasurable as the holes actually look like decent 'earthy' holes at long last. Delving underground now feels more like you're under 'real' earth for a change with the appearance of roots hanging down and boulder stones sticking out!
This represents an enormous amount of work for one texture, but I hope, as you've seen in the previous pics and those that follow here, you will think it's worth the effort...after all there's an awful lot of this 'dirt' stuff in Minecraft!
Check out the progress so far in another wall of pics:
Click the spoiler for more pics:
As you know at the moment I'm tackling some of the weakest areas of the pack in an attempt to make it not only great for building, but also great for exploration too, either below or above ground. So getting the dirt right, that stuff which gets everywhere above and below ground, is currently my pet interest. Hopefully (if my eyes don't explode with the strain) the above textures already completed will be joined by another 36 random dirt overlay textures featuring yet more roots and rocks, but also more plants and holes.
So far all these new dirt textures don't seem to be impacting on performance, which is a relief.
I think it's the beginning of a new era. People will start to build palaces with dirt !
Seriously, this random dirt is flawless. I think it's the more beautiful and detailed dirt I've seen so far in minecraft (sorry for other TP artist who will read that... :/ ). And it's so natural with your stones and gravel... I'm crying (by so much beauty but also because I am very far from that with mine)...
Thank you indeed, Cynips.
There's still much work to do on it yet, with regard to more random foliage, etc. but I'm pleased with the mechanics of it and that adding so much randomness to it didn't turn it into a chessboard pattern. As a 'go between' or bridge between other landscape textures like stone and gravel, it really was important to get it right. It has rather dominated the past week though and there's still snow edged grass, furrowed dirt and podzol to re-edit yet.
Wunderbar Glim, a joy to see and will make it a joy to explore, very well done indeed, more than just impressive
Haha! Thanks, BullJaw.
Currently, with a little freetime I had this morning, I've got 10 random snow covered grass sides done. As soon as I've got these and more besides melted into shape, I'll bore everyone with some more screenshots!
I've still to muck about with biome colouring, however I'm sure I read somewhere that biome colouring doesn't work on the grass edge part of dirt, due to the grass edge overlay. If that's the case then it will scupper my plans to make the dirt varied in colour slightly according to the biome you find it in, as the grass bit won't match!
Just finished 26 new random snow grass sides. Not entirely sure I'm happy with them yet. I think I'll edit the melted holes out as they make the snow look more like icing! It will all have to be re-edited anyway when I have time to work on upgrading the snow surface, but that's not so urgent.
I'll move on to the podzol dirt now, as that needs editing to match the new dirt and grass!
Anybody hear that squeeking and rattling noise? That'll be my treadmill singing to me.

Curse PremiumHiya, mate.

Just finished 26 new random snow grass sides. Not entirely sure I'm happy with them yet. I think I'll edit the melted holes out as they make the snow look more like icing! It will all have to be re-edited anyway when I have time to work on upgrading the snow surface, but that's not so urgent.
