I like it! I see it as replacing the current use of Iron Bars in a long straight pillar as a kind of steel lattice tower, could make for some very interesting builds.
Good work as always Glimmar
Thanks, mate. I'm kind of getting my teeth into this gasbag idea now, but it's more work to realize than the simple fun of messing around with lattice girders. The lattice style seemed like a good idea, because when viewed as a surface to bounce on, it still gave the impression of being able to flex, like the weave of a trampoline, but with all the structural advantages for building, as per the rushed examples.

It's the new and the old stone that's causing the headache really, not so much the polished versions, but anything that's also got to fit into the landscape as a natural material like the rough stone versions. With the expectation of randomness with ctm, etc., it's no longer just a one block project anymore. I also suspect that columns, steps and the like will get thrown in at the last minute.
Those dark metal girder slime blocks are awesome, never even thought of making them into something like that!
Makes me think about making my one into a spring or something... Hrmmm, not sure how it would work at 16x though!
Great work on the update so far though, glim, can't wait to see how you tackle the new stone textures.
Oh, and for the record, I also think plasma is a good choice. It just seems like something that could feasibly create/spawn a creature, pulsing with energy like it is, as compared to some sort of multicoloured lamp which is what the spark variant tends to remind me of. Plus the plasma one seems a little more mysterious.
Hmmm...Slime as both sticky and bouncy...Slimes bounce, but when applied to pistons it sticks to the adjacent block...It must be have something to do with surface tension. I remember in school we played with stuff in science class called a colloid. When you squeeze it, it feels hard, but if you let it sit in your hand it is like a thick liquid. Maybe you could make the latticework block with a hint of green goo as some kind of lubricant/adhesive at intersections, to give a sense that you are in fact using those green globs to accomplish something.

I think I'll probably go with the plasma lamp then, there's too many reasons not to now.
I was thinking of putting some kind of coiled spring affair in the center of the circular support frame, but thought otherwise as for building purposes it might get a little too optical illusiony. What was nice about moving away from a transparent goop was that I could play around more with how the outside arrangement of framework would effect the inside. Having a circular section meant it created some nice see-thru tunnels almost like pipes! I much prefer messing around with stuff like that than trying to make natural stone look natural.

Yes...there does seem to be a contradiction with the slime! Maybe like jelly (UK name I think) it can be sort of both gloopy and liquid and then when it cools down it sets into a kind of bouncy jelly. Although apparently in more advanced societies, slime emissions/exudations can be modified with enzymes to make various metallic substances, which with advanced farming techniques makes it possible to build strong, but light and flexible metal rods in great quantities. This little known fact was quickly seized upon by myself...hence my predilection for yet another scaffolding block!
In it's simple boiled form, slime goop is also known to make an excellent sealant for cheap canvas, which revolutionized the gasbag industry, as once dried it rendered the canvas extremely elastic, waterproof and virtually rot resistant!
Some also still swear by it's medicinal properties, particularly during the boiling down phase, where in times gone by it was common practice for mothers to encourage their youngsters to trot down to the slime purification plants and breath in the deep pungent slime fumes from the street level vent pipes. Boiling a pan of the 'green gold' this Christmas certainly helped clear my chesty cough...it cleared a few other things I wasn't expecting too...I'm seeing a specialist about that now though, so no worries!

There is a party game in America (perhaps you have it, or something like it in the UK) where one player draws a card with a word and definition on it. That person tells the word to everyone playing. The person that drew the card writes the true definition on a piece of paper, and everyone else attempts to make up a definition that sounds plausible on their own slips of paper. All the slips are then gathered and read aloud. Everyone votes on what they think is the real definition, and you move forward on the board for each vote for your definition. This game is called 'Balderdash'. The game makers have added categories like important dates and historical figures, but the basic premise remains the same. Who is the most convincing liar?
I have no idea if your explanation of slime/jelly is true or not, but the way you tell it, it certainly seems in turns possible and unlikely. It also seems to fit with the late industrial age steampunk theme here, so whether it is true or not, I like it.

Ah! Sorry, juliasand1, everything I mentioned in my comment above yours, with regard to boiling slime and sealing airship gas bags, was all most definitely 'balderdash' (by the way, we have the same game - with the same name - here in the UK...though I've never played it!).
Having a silly daydream moment about how one would excuse using gasbags for slime blocks, I envisaged a 19th/early 20th century polluted 'steampunk' city, with smoke stacks belching waste into smog laden air. While down in the cobbled streets, bordered on either side by row upon dingy row of red bricked buildings, ragged kids splashed in slime effluent puddles, jostling each other for the best places to sniff the pungent fumes emanating from the lambent green steam vents of the fortress like 'slime' factory walls. The whole dream sort of gave me a valid reason for spending yesterday and today trying out some 'slime gasbag' designs...of which more later this evening...meaning I have some pics to upload.
As bad as it must have been here, where I live in the North West of England during the cotton manufacturing boom days, I'm fairly sure we didn't have access to MC slimes as a commodity, though I bet there were plenty of other manufacturing processes that came pretty close in terms of horrific pollution!
I probably just need locking up when I'm in one of my daydream moods! :/
I hope nobody was frantically searching Google on the subject of UK slime factories. We do have 'Fungus the Bogeyman' though, that comes pretty close.
Following on from Rosestorm's comment about making the slime block into airship gasbags, here's what I've got so far as an alternative texture to the slime girder framework pics above.
Of course, at the moment I'm making this as a single texture in vanilla Minecraft. Once MCPatcher kicks in for 1.8 I can make extra random gasbag textures, patches and repair stitching so the balloon overall looks a little more weather worn, also different lighting for side and top textures if necessary. Until I can employ MCPatcher, I'm not even sure having such variety will improve or spoil the effect and of course all this work means I've still not done anything on the stone textures.
Oh! Forgot to mention that the texture is just ever so slightly transparent, so you get the merest inkling of the shape of the interior.
Oh, Oh! And yes...bouncing around on the top of the airship, way up in the air, or hopping along it's length, does give the feeling that you're actually bouncing on an inflated balloon. Except that there isn't any sound effect, at least one that I can hear. I'm curious now to find out what Mojang will come up with.
Rest of the pics? Click the spoiler button.
The following pic shows a much more shaded version, which looks nice close up, but terrible when viewed enmasse on a large airship. They unfortunately appear too bulbous, which makes it look like the large balloon is made up of lots of little balloons with dark borders. It's a difficult illusion to create, hence my preference for the example in the first pic.
Let me know what you think of the above, including any suggestions.
My tongue in cheek comment in the posts above, regarding slime factories boiling down slime to use as a sealant on cheap canvas for airship gasbag production, actually has some merit with regard to how you should view this particular slime block alternative!

I figured IF it was true, you had to be referring to some kind of industrial byproduct, not slime collected from giant gelatinous creatures. That being said, what really had me going was the matter-of-fact way you explained it. That leads me to believe you'd be pretty good at the game of Balderdash.

If I had to do it verbally, I'd be fairly hopeless these days, though I used to play a game when I was younger where you had to talk about a given subject for a full minute without repeating any word or phrase...I was quite good at that. For years I didn't realize I'd been playing a popular BBC Radio4 Comedy Competition show called 'Just a Minute'. Still one of my favorite programs to listen to when I'm driving.
I don't think you have to read aloud your own 'balderdash'. So as long as you can sound authoritative in your writing. When it is your turn, you'll be reading the true answer and everyone else's 'balderdash'.
Anyways, that bag idea is great. Even if you decide a different direction, keep it as an alt texture!

Oh...for sure! I still think the structural, sprung steel (although a little modern looking, unless I settle on a darker corroded metal, or even brass or copper version) slime block will have more practical uses, even in giant airship constructions as support scaffolding, ala zeppelins and the like. Whatever I do though will be available as alts and it's really not difficult for anyone these days to drop a renamed alt into the items or blocks folders...well it shouldn't be difficult with a little simple instruction.
Oh...I think I might be ok then at 'Balderdash', especially if I have to read something convincingly. I spent most of my kid's early years spinning all sorts of yarns about how pirates had buried treasure at the bottom of the garden, and other such fanciful tales and it was all thoroughly taken as gospel. Now none of my kids believe anything I say, whether it's true or not! There's a moral to this particular tale I suppose.
As it turned out though, what I'd been telling the kids all those years wasn't that far from the truth. We live not far from a river which was diverted in Victorian times. Previously the course of the river ran right past the foot of our sloping garden and apparently, during the age of the Vikings, it was a well rowed route for long-ships and parties of raiders returning too and from Ireland overland to Scandinavia.
It still sends shivers up my spine that landing parties of bearded berserkers might well have stood on the ground at the bottom of our garden. It beats finding fairies I suppose! However, let me tell you another tale about that....
It looks like for the purposes of building airships in particular that the ability to use your new scaffolding slime block and the airbag alt at the same time would be cool. I would offer the suggestion to make the new airbag alt the default for the regular wool block since using the wool block as an airship ballon is what most os us use it for anyway.

That's not a bad idea, Rosestorm. The other alternative would be to use one of the stained glass blocks for the scaffold texture (although which one might cause some problems). Having both airbag and scaffold slime block texture in simultaneous use would certainly be neat!
The only problem with switching one of the wool blocks for the new gasbag texture is that someone or other out there may well have been using whichever wool block I change as some crucial feature in their build.
In the end I may just have to let folk mix and match...instructions to swap things around wouldn't be difficult to follow, now we have individual textures.
I could also produce a separate pack add-on if folk really didn't want to mess about with the interior of the pack. This add-on would go in the resource pack folder and would switch the slime block between the two textures, or could be made to switch one of the wool or glass blocks appropriately. But the simplest way would be to just let folk rename and swap textures around themselves in the 'blocks' folder.
GS Update v15 was primarily going to be a simple fix for some missing textures (only apparent if you don't use MC Patcher). In the end I thought I'd sweeten the hassle of having to download the pack again with a few little treats.
I've been wanting to update the Spawn Eggs for a long time, not just to 64x, but something a little more imaginative and something that would also serve as a suitable prop in a picture frame. So I made a few varieties (the alternatives will be available for use) and chose one to be the standard, which is a kind of vacuum flask with an intense electrical spark animation as the heart of it. Made in such a way as to appear to glow, so that when placed in picture frames it can be used as a colorful choice of decoration or glowing light on various builds (especially if you have a light source nearby).
Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you play Minecraft the new spawn eggs look nice and bright in the 'fast' setting in the MC graphics options and rather dull in the 'fancy' graphics setting. I have no explanation for why Mojang would make one brighter than the other. This means I've had to make a duplicate set of textures for 'fancy' use and users will have to physically switch textures to the 'fast' variety as 'fancy' textures will be the standard. Also any users who choose not to patch their Minecraft with 'MCPatcher' will notice that three of the spawn eggs have no illuminated interior. This is because Mojang chose to make the 'spotty' overlay on those eggs almost completely black, so only by my adjusting the colors of the overlay for MCPatcher use will they show up ingame as seen in the above video.
I've also included a full set of stained glass wool portholes for anyone wishing to substitute the netherack stained glass porthole with a particular riveted wool block variety. Oh and I upgraded the reed item texture to 64x, but forgot to show it in the vid.
To all those who are still interested in my work...thanks for looking in and for any comments, they are much appreciated.
Thanks for watching.

Glimmar's Steampunk Hybrid 64x/32x v.15 for Minecraft 1.7.x
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New blocks:
----------------
Added missing textures for non-MCPatcher users. Old oak log, etc.
Changed flower_dandelion and flower_rose for shorter textures for non-MCPatcher use. I think ground hugging versions look easier on the eye when there is only one variety of plant.
Changed changed standard dirt_podzol for non-MCPatcher use.
Changed standard mushroom_red for non-MCPatcher use.
Changed standard dirt_podzol_side for non-MCPatcher use.
Added 1 extra texture to 'GlimDirtPodzSide' ctm folder.
New Items:
---------------
All new spawn_egg animated texture. From a number of alts I chose to use a plasma-like star for it's ambiguous nature. So decoratively it can be science fiction energy source, steampunk light bulb and some kind of electrical evolution chamber.
A set of alternative animated and non-animated spawn-egg textures. These are temporarily located in the 'assets/minecraft/textures/items/spawn_egg_alts' folder in the pack. Later on I'll transfer them to the separate GS Alts Collection pack when I get chance to update that. Instructions are in the 'spawn_egg_alts' folder. Choose from:
please note: if you choose a non-animated spawn_egg then delete the 'spawn_egg_overlay.png.mcmeta' file in the 'items' folder as it's not needed and may cause a problem.
Whoops! Forgot to put the alt porthole glass in the update.
Actually, rather than updating the pack again, I'll stick it in an updated 'GS Alt Collections' download. It needs updating and separating into two downloads, one of which will contain all 'my' alternative textures and the other, which will be user edited alternative textures. I've been meaning to do this for some time, as although the majority of textures contributed by users/fans in the past are edits of my own work, I'm still not comfortable slapping an adfly link on their efforts.
Congrats on the update, Glim! I actually really like the porthole textures and was a little upset when I couldn't find them, they will look so good in this underwater submarine/base I'm making with this pack.
Anyway, I guess it's full steam ahead with the next edition of your esteemed establishment (phew, too many e words, but I couldn't resist :P) I always get jealous when I see your videos of your world and how beautiful and astounding it looks with your texture pack, every build is just so perfect it's amazing.

Thanks, DoctorZoose and ah... yes, my apologies for not including the porthole alts.
All is not lost though, and good may yet triumph over evil. Goofing like I did made me wake up and set to on updating the alternative textures today, which is now well and truly split into separate collections and 'almost' ready to upload. I've got to pick my car up from the garage right about now, so it'll probably be later this evening when I actually upload and update the OP with 'two' new collections downloads, 'Glimmar' alt textures and 'user' edited alt textures.
As no one seems to be interested in taking up the reigns from ksheep for compiling all the user GS mod texture contributions, I may have to do it myself. However, it will not have the same expert attention lavished on it as ksheep was able to do. I no nothing about using mods other than MCPatcher.
If I do manage to update it with textures uploaded after ksheeps last update, then it will merely be to collect all the .png textures together and store them in the appropriate named mod folder with the authors name included. Unfortunately I will not be able to provide instructions for use (unless clearly supplied with the post) nor can I provide further necessary editing if the textures are provided on a sheet...ie. cutting and pasting will be the users responsibility. At the very least, all the textures will be gathered in one place and not lost in the mists.
I will also properly endeavor to have a list of Mod texture contributors up on display in the Mod section of my OP alongside download link.
***********************************************
I'd love to see any pics of your sub/base build...might give me some ideas. Now things are a little quieter round here, I might at last be able to get round to making my own underwater base...once I find a nice deep stretch of ocean.
Anyone wanting the new colored wool stained glass portholes will find them in the 'Glimmar's Steampunk Alternative Textures v15' not the 'Glimmar's Steampunk 'User' Contributed Textures v15' above. There's also all the alternative textures from the GS v14 Update that I never had time to upload. I've tried to make some sense to the order of things in the downloads, so it should be easier to find what you're looking for. Also as mentioned above, if it's not already obvious, I've separated 'my' original alternative textures from 'user' contributed edited textures, so that I'm not unfairly profiting from the work of others.
Please note: These downloads are not 'resource packs' that can just be selected ingame, they are a vast collection of original alternative textures which you can dip into to customise your personal version of my pack and is only to be used in Glimmar's Steampunk. Like the rest of my work it is not to be used in other public texture/resource packs and is subject to my 'legal' conditions (see the relevant section in this post above).
Further info available in the 'GS Alternative Textures' Downloads in the OP and in the alt texture download readme files.
I'm still struggling with a sort of 'bellows' or 'airbag' type block but its not looking so hot at the moment

Curse PremiumExcellent! I shall proceed with the stone for now until I can edit the slime gasbags using the effects of MCPatcher.
Anyways, that bag idea is great. Even if you decide a different direction, keep it as an alt texture!

Curse PremiumOh...for sure!

Curse PremiumThat's not a bad idea, Rosestorm.

Direct: Glimmar's Steampunk v.15 Hybrid 64/32x for MC 1.7.4
.....So What's New in v.15?
For further info click the spoiler button:

'animated mob spawner electric spark lamp'
'animated mob spawner fetus jar'
'animated mob spawner fetus jar pulsing'
'animated mob spawner fetus jar_saturated'
'animated mob spawner plasma light'
'animated mob spawner tungsten light'
'mob spawner fetus jar'
'mob spawner plasma light'
'mob spawner tungsten light'
New 'reeds' texture.
removed old 'fish' and 'fish_cooked' textures.
please note: if you choose a non-animated spawn_egg then delete the 'spawn_egg_overlay.png.mcmeta' file in the 'items' folder as it's not needed and may cause a problem.

Curse PremiumActually, rather than updating the pack again, I'll stick it in an updated 'GS Alt Collections' download.
Anyway, I guess it's full steam ahead with the next edition of your esteemed establishment (phew, too many e words, but I couldn't resist :P) I always get jealous when I see your videos of your world and how beautiful and astounding it looks with your texture pack, every build is just so perfect it's amazing.

Curse PremiumThanks, DoctorZoose and ah... yes, my apologies for not including the porthole alts.

Curse Premium.....'GS Alternative Textures' Downloads for GS v15
Download: Glimmar's Steampunk Alternative Textures v15
..............on the adf.ly page, click the SKIP AD button (top right) after 5 secs. DO NOT CLICK ANY ADS
Download: Glimmar's Steampunk 'User' Contributed Textures v15
Have fun.
