just one thing I wish you can do and I'll really appreciate if you did it
all of your wood kinds have like the boarder on the sides so when you put two blocks next to each other you'll have a line between them
what I wish to do is to make one kind of these planks does not have that boarder ( can you )
if you didn't get it tell me and I'll make it with pics ( I'm too lazy sorry )
sooo yeah tell me what do you thing about that ??
If I understand you corrrectly Hamode, you are referring to the shading that runs along the vertical edges of logs. Is this correct? If this is what you mean, I think you'll note that Glim is doing just that, at least for the new oak and spruce textures in his upcoming pack. The birch and Acacia logs continue to use that look, since those trees will only be encountered being one block around. He does it to give the logs the look of being round while actually being square: an optical illusion, if you will.
You are saying that you would like versions of the logs without the 'rounding', correct?

Actually, it sounds like he's talking about the wood planks, not the logs. Currently, the oak planks have vertical metal banding on the edges, birch planks are individual panels, spruce has horizontal bands along the top and bottom edge, and jungle wood has a vertical gap along the edges.

Yep! That's what I'm intending.
Acacia and Dark Oak (or 'Old' Oak as I like to think of it) will be more traditionally done without riveted iron bands, probably horizontally, but with thin vertical timber planks at the edges (as is usual for most plank blocks in resource packs) so that they look held together when you make a wall or column.
As I work, I'll try to make some variations without vertical timber edges, different plank widths, color, brightness, orientation, ctm randomness, then you can swap them around with the other planks if the iron bands are proving difficult to use with your constructions. It will take a little longer, but it's more efficient to do it while I'm working in that area.

Spruce, acacia and birch look good, but flipping heck glim, those dark oak logs are gob-smackingly gorgeous!
They just bring across that old, forgotten and spooky vibe so well. I want to make everything out of those logs now...
Log castle? No problem! Log blimp? No problem!
Ah! I greatly appreciate that, mate, and thanks for lookin' in!
I'm sure you know what it's like to work in a bit of a vacuum, with very little free time to finish things, with RL distractions coming from all angles. So it's very encouraging to know what little I've done looks good to a fellow artist.
Here's all I've got to show for today's free time foray into the new textures, yet it does represent quite a bit of work. It's all the fault of 'random ctm'!
.....GS v14 New Dark Oak Planks!
...except, as is typical for me, being the contrary type...they're not dark, but 'weathered' and 'bleached' oak beams:
They look strong and load bearing, so anything you make with them should feel like it'll last...so just let those zombies try beating these down!
Not sure how practical they will prove to be, as I haven't had chance to build anything major other than the little trials in the pics. Once I got started on the idea, then made numerous random ctm variations, it doesn't leave much time for anything else.
Don't forget these are all hand drawn too, like the Dark Oak log above, not copy pasted textures and it takes a lot of trial and error work to get things to look right. Without ctm I'd probably have got through most of the new textures by now (if Halloween and school hols hadn't intervened), but I want things to look right first time, if possible, and I'm no Youtube speed artist...sorry!
When I've more time to return and re-edit things (like that ever happens!) it should be fairly easy to make a number of color variations for those who like their dark oak to look, well...dark! Other richer oak color variations could be made too! With my dark tarred iron bound spruce planks I didn't want to make another dark colored plank. I thought about sort of swapping things around between spruce and dark oak planks, but the havoc that might have caused both to my world and everyone else's dissuaded me. I've already had to swap a number of things around to fix the the extra ctm block problem, so I didn't want to create any more havoc than absolutely necessary.
You've really instilled these basic wooden plank blocks with an impressive, and useful, diversity. I forget when I last popped up, but all your teasers have been looking good as always.
And don't let any of these 'delays' worry you, the quality you produce is always well worth the wait.
Great just great - and what that red wood above the spruce wood planks - ahhhh let me guess>> acacia wood planks if that's right then what I can say?? - absolutely the same (great just great)

Thanks, Demi_Person, glad you like. Nice to see you around again.

Whoops! I should have tidied up a little bit! No the reddish looking planks off to the right are just one of the jungle wood alts I was testing...I did a few of them this morning, before completing up on the dark oak planks. Still a few more variations to do before I'm happy with the choice.
Acacia will be different still, as I want a nice set of contrasting planks, and it will most likely be a four plank texture without iron-bands...not as red as the alt jungle plank block seen above.
In case you were wondering what the other block is off to the left. It's a replacement for one of the hardened clays. Lol! I can't remember which now without checking and I'm off to bed soon! It's supposed to be like Jacobean terracotta tiles (random ctm involved) and I've just remembered, it's replacing the pink hardened clay.
Custom building a PC with a budget of 1.5K and i cant wait to get this pack going with shaders and no lag, god its just going to be too much to bare.
Hiya, Hunter. That sounds like a very good budget indeed! Mine is getting a bit long in the tooth now, but it's more than coping with everything.
I look forward to seeing what it looks like with shaders, as I haven't a clue about that side of things. Hope you'll post some pics, or instructions or both. Best of luck with the search for the ideal machine or parts...the best part of all though is the anticipation!
Here's a quick summary so far of how logs and planks look:
.....GS v14 Logs and Planks!
Acacia plank and Jungle plank aren't ctm'd yet, but tile fine for none MCPatcher use. I don't think they need any explanation as log and plank are grouped together. Apart from adding random details, I'm keen to know how you think I should finalise the acacia plank, and what you might prefer for the jungle wood plank (the one shown is just another alternative). I mean in terms of vertical wood at the edges as a border, continuous planks or broken up into short random sections...stuff like that!
[edit] Looking at the pic above, I'm also wondering whether or not to make the spruce a two beam plank which might go quite well with the iron bands and the fact that they are tarred. What do you think?
Now I'm off to gather leaves and real timber for Bonfire Night (5th of November, Gunpowder plot, and all that). One of those peculiar UK traditions were we celebrate someone being burned on a woodpile!!

So Glim... Which old textures have you updated between v13 and v14?
btw, shouldn't Sequoia be a Redwood?
Edit: Reason why is I figured i'd give you a hand updating some of your older textures from 32x to 64x. Need to know which one's you've done before I start.
Here's the Blaze Rod i've already done. Was an easy one.
Stick too:
I've popped in a few times but I've never seen the picture on the OP with shaders. It looks great! Thus reminding me even more why I need to upgrade my pc
Those new woods like great though! I like the 'weathered' effect

That's a very kind offer, Vermillion, and I know you'd do an amazing job of converting things (probably a lot better than I and a darn sight faster to boot!), but I'd rather do it myself, partly because it's my little 3 year old 'precious'...I mean resource pack and partly because I want to change most of the textures to something better! Though I can already hear the sounds of drawn knives from those who'd rather they were all converted sooner than later.
As just mentioned, I was intending changing many things, if not all, as I slowly wend my way back through the 32x textures, so I wouldn't want you wasting effort on things I'd be relegating later. Neither would I want to feel hesitant about changing something you'd done a very good job on.
I know I've accepted the odd edit here and there from friends and users, but like any texture pack artist it's really my intention to finish the whole lot myself, to call it my own, a target that just seems to slip further away each update!
I know I'm going to regret not accepting your offer, mate, and the very last thing I want to do is cause offence, especially when you've made such a very generous offer to help and done so much amazing mod conversion work, but as a fellow artist, I hope you understand where I'm coming from.
I've popped in a few times but I've never seen the picture on the OP with shaders. It looks great! Thus reminding me even more why I need to upgrade my pc

Those shader pics in the OP were made using 'Chunky' a Minecraft rendering program that outputs a very nice finished picture (minus all the nice ctm though) using a favorite resource pack. So it's not something you'd see in game, however powerful your machine was. Each pic can take upwards of an hour to render, depending on how complex a scene and what lighting you use!
Having said that, there is a shader mod that does improve visuals and lighting for game play, but I've never had time to mess with it and to be honest I have to keep things as simple as possible when editing...I barely scratch the surface of MCPatcher's possibilities and I'm more than happy with that.
Glad you like the new woods and nice to have you pop in!

The current problem i'm having is converting and updating mod textures to the new 64x format. I'd really rather not just resize the 32x to 64x and have it look the same while the main pack has the odd semi-realistic 64x. Though i'll have to do that with most at this point, since they were made from pulled-apart 32x alternate textures that you had in spades.
I've also discovered a few were done by other artists didn't match the initial theme of the main pack that I had to redo from scratch. (e.g. Blocks made from some variable of iron that were white or silver as opposed to the black and dark grays that you use for iron)
Here's the new 64x Iron Scaffold from IC3 as an example:
Made from an Iron Block + Note Block + A piece of my own steampunk texture pack that I discontinued in 1.2.
Oh, and thanks to the new texture layout introduced in 1.5, IC2 Beer Barrels don't look like Rubber Trees (same texture). But you can see that I used the Oak Planks, which are still 32x, so i'll need to come back and redo them when you've finished making your textures 64x. (Yes, the top of the barrel is fail.)
