Are you using wool for smoke? I usually use cobwebs, but it looks like the light gray wool makes a "fuller" smoke. However, I think it might be possible to do a mix: use wool for the inner-most parts of the smoke, have an outer layer (or partial layer) of web, and some of the trailing wisps of smoke out of only cobwebs. Just a thought.
Buildings look quite good, and I might just use some of these as "inspiration" for my own buildings. Can't wait to see what you make next.
I Never thought of usung webs for smoke, ive gotta play arround with that idea today, thanks!
Nice, I may need to steal the basic design of the BBBs. (Boring Brick Buildings are the Backbone of any steampunk industrial area. )
Which reminds me... what the heck did I do with the floorplans for an Insurance Factory? In the late 1800s insurance companies got annoyed with paying for factories destroyed by fire, so hired architects to design standardized factories, ones that included odd little things like emergency exits and fire escapes....
There was a set of plans in a model railroading magazine, about fifteen years ago, and I only just now remembered it.
The Auld Grump, and Google is being no help at all....
How is your texture work going? Have you settled on your ideas for the stained glass yet and if so do you have any teaser images to share?
Glimmar hasn't been on for the past few days, although one of his last posts did mention the following:
Don't forget folks, if I'm absent for a while, it means I'm doing my best to concentrate my limited time resources to update the pack. Also the best feature about MC 1.7.1 for us texture artists, at least from my perspective at the moment, is that you don't have to put up with my pack not being ready for the final update. Just download another favored finished pack that you like, and use it to plug the gap until mine is ready. Meaning, use the new 1.7.1 resource pack organizer and place your second favorite pack (it better be second!) below Glimmar's Steampunk on the right side of your resource pack selection screen and any missing textures from my pack will be replaced by textures from the one below mine in the list. You'll see what I mean when you've given 1.7 a whirl. No offence to any other texture artist or Mojang intended.
If I had to guess, this is the current state of affairs, and he might not be on much, if at all, until he gets the textures into some semblance of completion (or at least ready for a partial update, such as a foliage update).
From everything he has said it sounds like he plans to do all the 1.7 stuff plus the 64x foliage updates due to new plants being the main new additions from 1.7.
Also, can someone here tell me how I use the Glimmar banner for my sig?
Just a quick look in with apologies for disappearing.
I'm still supposed to be away working on a Halloween event here for a couple of hundred kids this week, but felt guilty I'd left things standing after the 1.7 update. Not a lot I can do about it in the short term, as it's also the school holidays here in the North West of the UK. I've also been visiting my eldest son at uni with the family, but in-between I've still squeezed a bit of time here and there to work on some things...hence:
.....GS v14 New Tree Texture Tease!
As the title suggests, new tree log textures. As these were foisted on us at the last minute by Mojang, I had to down tools on stained glass and plants and sort out other problems with ctm. As spotted by ksheep, the new trees borked my extra blocks, so I've scrapped those and decided I'm not risking that kind of venture for a while until things settle down again. I've re-jigged things to work again, but I'm now just concentrating what little time I have on fixing the look of things, as I haven't the time and don't want to rush things for the sake of a quick update.
Anyways, as proof I haven't left things completely up in the air, and as a way to asuage my guilt somewhat, here are a few more teaser pics to give you something to look at for a while.
New Big 'old' Oak Tree:
New Spruce Tree for those Giant Sequoia in the podzol (or whatever you call it) biome:
New Acacia and Birch logs:
Well I hope you like what I've decided to do. I'm hoping that the brand new log textures will prove useful and atmospheric, as I've put a lot of effort into them using random ctm. A new acacia leaf texture needs creating of course and I've shuffled the birch and jungles leaf textures around for the time being.
As the original stained glass was changed by Mojang towards the end, so it no longer has a back face, which to me ruined it's realism, I'm waiting to work on it last of all in the hope that it will get fixed by kahr (MCPatcher). I have a few ideas, but I'm getting the rest of the new textures out of the way first so I can better enjoy and concentrate on something worthy for the stained glass.
I'm doin' my best folks, but school hols here, especially at special times like Easter, Halloween and Christmas, are pretty busy family affairs, aside from work, etc. So I'm having to burn the candle at both ends and in the middle!!
So just as soon as I can, I will get back into the swing of things and let you see what else I've been working on towards an eventual update. However, priority is that I want it to look right, but I'm very much appreciating how polite and understanding you're all being. It's either that or there's really very little interest now in Glimmar's Steampunk.
Just keep chatting among yourselves for a bit longer and then I'll throw open the drawing room doors and show you my Time Machi...Whoops! Sorry, wrong scenario!

It is in his OP, but what you want to do is paste the following into the signature field in your profile editor, you will want to paste it as plain text, not outlined like I have it:
Oh man, I've been using your texture pack for the longest time-- I honestly don't remember, but I've been lurking here, and around your thread and I've only made an account here recently. I've never actually thanked you for making this! So.. thank you! I'm completely in love with the quartz blocks, the dark green goes great with the green wool and the stone bricks. Gray stained clay is also one of my favorites. The trees look awesome as well! Especially the dark oak. The knots look like eyes, which is super spooky. Can't wait for the next release of this texture pack. No worries about the entire, holidays thing. Family is always more important that Minecraft and texture packs.
Don't know if you are still taking ideas for the stained glass windows or not, but I had an idea this morning that I thought I should share. I think a neat theme for the windows might be a flower theme. A different flower image for each of the colors, like using roses for the red, daises for yellow, and so on.
I consider all ideas, so always grateful for any brain-storming ideas. However, as mentioned I want to tackle glass last of all as it has so many possibilities.
So anything pops into your head, as it does with me as I'm driving along (just when I can't record it!) jot it down here and it might end up being a variation.
In general I will probably make sets of glass which will roughly stick to the MC colors, but for the official pack I'll try to make a varied selection that I think might be most useful, ie, some decorative, functional, effect based, industrial, etc.
Looks like the update threw everyone for a loop. Just tried out the latest beta of MCPatcher, and I'm seeing a number of issues, from vertical CTM only working properly on two of the four sides, to textures of lower-ranked resource packs replacing higher ones if they have CTM (using your pack as main, Broken Anachronism as second, the dirt and glass panes were showing up as BA's version), to the Acacia and Dark Oak planks showing up as your stone face textures. I'm sure everything will be fixed in time, but it was kinda jarring after building a small airship in Vanilla using the new wood, just to have it turn to stone after switching back to your pack.
Yeh! I've fixed all those issues now, but it's meant I've had to put other things aside.
Love how the dam project is coming along. It illustrates how the one project leads on to another and how using the landscape creates interesting builds when thinking like an engineer.
... I just had the perfect idea of what to do with the gray stained glass! Make it into smoke!
That might be a possibility as a complete set of different coloured smoke. Not sure yet how I'd go about that. It also reminds me that my cobweb needs upgrading to 64x still with variations too.
Thought it was worth putting in a bit of time on the wood side of things...well what little time I have. One thing usually leads onto another with the way I work, but my wood, like everything really, was badly in need of some attention. ANyways, glad you like.

Many thanks for those kind words of encouragement, KingPandaaaaaa. At times when I have to hunker down and try and fix the pack for an update, but all seems quiet in the thread, it's nice when someone takes the trouble to say they still like the pack.
Oh, and welcome to the forums here, glad my pack persuaded you to join up.
The log textures were not even on my personal use radar as something that needed... ahem... sprucing up. I was pretty content with the current look. But you continue to out do yourself. I love the random ctm. Those knots are phenomenal, and I just love the craggy, gnarly bark on the oak and spruce. All of this will really add to the atmosphere when exploring. Once again, well done!

The log textures weren't on my radar either, until Mojang started adding things last minute and it tipped me over the edge to being dissatisfied with the look of trees in all the new biomes. Then one thing leads to another, ideas flow and with the little time I have I went along with it, because it meant I didn't have to think too much about how to use MCPatcher Better Glass to fix the new stained glass. I've still to get my head round that!
The gnarly look is my way of solving the problem of double thickness tree trunks. I don't like to use horizontal ctm if I can help it, because it over-complicates the use of random ctm. It's still a tricky process to get the gnarly bark and ancient ivy stems to flow and join up in different directions. Bad enough on the spruce, but the big old oak trees have been a right pain. I've just a few more random textures to add to make it work better, but I thought there was enough to let you all see it. It's designed to work well with the new ivy vine texture...hope everyone spotted that.
As much as I like to make textures for building massive 19th century architecture and industrial behemoths, I think it's just as important to be able see those constructions in a believable atmospheric world that still feels and looks something like the world the Victorians inhabited, albeit with a hint of the fantastical, from which there is no escape...this being Minecraft.
Anyways, I've used up enough of my work avoidance time, I better get back to these new textures, there's so flippin' many! Oh...and there's new planks to do as well. Glad you like the spruced up timber so far.
OMG! Just found your resource pack! Jaw-dropping! great work man. I would definitely buy you a cup of coffee but I didn't see a donate button so I just used the adfly link.
Don't feel ashamed to have a donate button! We Love supporting great work!
You can kinda down play it a little and say the donate button is for a cup of coffee
OOOHHH YES! This is beautifully perfect. You're on a role, Glimmar, all of these textures have been jaw-dropping.
zamaj, I always appreciate you looking in, because I love what you do and I think we both like that old dark world atmosphere. Many thanks for those kind words, mate.

Haha! It only took me 3 years to work out how to use adfly! So in six years time I'll be gasping for a drink!! Thanks for the offer of a coffee though, that's a nice of gesture as a donation...kind of sociable and generous at the same time.
Many thanks for the encouragement too, and welcome to the forums here. Hope you like the new stuff when it comes, as the pack is a little broken until my next update.
Now after all that talk of a coffee...I need one! Trouble is, should I go and make one or should I see how to create a 'coffee' donate button in my OP?
Never was good at making decisions, so perhaps I'll try and do both.

Haha! Thank you, Rukiara. Yes, the torches or lamps have become a little bit of a trade mark.
Coming along beautifully, with lots of classic features in evidence.

Curse Premium.....GS v14 New Big Old Dark Oak Experiment!
An experiment to see how versatile the Dark Oak log is...thought I'd make a 'big old oak tree'!
It obviously needs more leaves and a sunset might have helped, but I got too tired in the end and thought I'd go back to working on the new planks.
I like the acacia wood it's aowsome

Glad you like, Hamode.
Having two new plank types means I can have some non-metal braced wood for a change, so hopefully they'll turn out ok. Thanks again.
