I can only speak for myself, but I think family and your personal sanity comes first. One of the main mods in the Feed The Beast packs that is preventing most from updating to 1.5.x, and now 1.6.x, is RedPower2. The Mod author had a small flurry of tweets back in April saying she was working on the 1.5.x update, and then one more mid June, and that is all the communication there has been. Many people believe that RedPower2 will never be updated. Some of them make rude comments about it. But she's got a life, and a job, and who knows what else that she deals with, as do most of us. But the lack of communication is frustrating to people in the community. On the other side is you Glimmar. Sure, you go incommunicado for a few days, or even a week at a time, but you usually let us know before hand, fill us in on your progress from time to time, and give us an occasional screen shot or vid showing your work. And on top of it all, your work is amazing and always getting better and better. You've earned a lot of goodwill, not that you are beholden to any of us, so take advantage of it. Besides, you never know how you'll be inspired when you take some of the pressure off.
Which would you prefer? The variety pack with ctm would take just a little longer for me to figure, but would give more variety for construction, or just a mixture of brick, marble and smooth without the old ctm extras. As I get more jaded with the effort, my decision making powers wain and I'm almost at zero inspiration too.
For me personally, I would go for the marbelised ones for the default variation as they seem to be closest to the original blocks, then then add the other two variations as ctm blocks like the frieze, head, mosaic, and rune stone.
I'd say the brick as standard, although I wouldn't mind some CTM. The only issue I can see with that is that it might throw random CTM variants in a large construction that just looks out of place. One way around that may be to have the alternate texture show up only when it's a single block of that type, and if there's a vertical or horizontal line, switch to brick. May be a bit clunky, and I'm not sure how easy that would be to accomplish, but it might be the best of both worlds.
Like juliusand1 (and the rest of us) have said, feel free to take your time. No one is forcing you to hit any particular deadline here.
Of all the Stained Clay variants, I liked the marbleized look the most. Though, if you're including it in your alts you can have the defaults be whatever, so I guess I'd vote for the CTM block variety pack.
Glimmar's clock is just the regular minecraft clock, heavily animated.
that clock is a little to, "square" for my taste, buy anyway, how far have you come in updating the pack, i really am looking forward to ridding epic steampunk skeleton horses
Hi.
Just a suggestion, because i can't bother reading more than 10 pages of forum backwards...
Since resource packs have been implemented, you can add custom sounds.
I'm not demanding it, but if you have the time...
Could you add some steampunkish sounds?
like-pistons, levers, creeper pre-explosion hiss being a steam whistle kind of thing, and maybe new sounds for the iron golems and other stuff?

I don't blame you for not wanting to read through 500 + pages. As Glimmar said before, he may add custom sounds in the future, but probably not for a while.
Here are the last few pics to show off coal and hay blocks. You might want to click on the pics to get a better look at the new textures. Also the new ctm'd gold mosaic block I want to use as one of the hardened stained clay blocks (yellow):
New 'blockCoal.png' - Decided on what I think is an really useful riveted iron 'box girder' texture for making bridges, supports, etc, which provides an alternative constructional element to the black cast iron block (they work very well together and the iron block is high on my list to upgrade to an improved 64x version). This has been randomly ctm'd at 64x, but I've still just a few more variations to throw in to make it work well. If I had more free time then I probably would have made some alt more obviously coal related structural textures, but I don't think you'd have appreciated me wasting even more time.
I love building bridges! I could feel the frustration ebbing away as I built this.
There's a new menu 'options_background' texture based on my now favorite 'coal_block.png' box girder texture.
Column of gold mosaic yellow stained clay blocks. Very heavily randomised ctm'd.
New 'hay_block' - Tried various structural designs for the hay block, of which failed but possibly useful attempts, are in the GS Alts Collection). Decided I was wasting too much time on this and went for a simple hay block design and was pleased with the result. Those new horses thanked me for it! If I get the chance I'll have another go at exploiting the unique properties of a vertical and horizontal block that's not wood or quartz.
Hay bale roof.
New 64x wool block. Old version and alt in the 'GS Alts Collection' but I also want to make a more obviously 'fabric' based texture set sometime.
Thanks for your thoughts regarding what to put in as the default hardened stained clay...and the kind comments of support, which is very much appreciated (they really deserve better individual thanks than this).
Well, I've decided to try and cram in my extra ctm blocks (stone heads, marble frieze, rune stones) along with a new heavily ctm'd gold mosaic block (minus the undeveloped original crude designs) and a selection of colored marble, smooth, brick etc. for as varied and useful a collection as possible. This will be in an easy to hoist out folder for those who want just one design made up of different colors. If this clay ctm folder is removed from the MC Patcher folder, then all the stained clay will revert back to a none ctm selection of marble, smooth and stained bricks. You're then free to pick and choose other types from the 'GS Alts Collection' download to get what works for your builds.
Thanks for your continued support, folks. I will upload as soon as it's ready and I can properly test, check things and update the OP, etc, etc.
I like the idea of diversifying the stained clay textures. There is no rule saying that they have to be, just because the vanilla textures are. So, I appreciate all the variations you'll be including. You have me excited for all the new stuff.
Edit: oh, and the more alt textures you make available is great for the mod support folks. It makes for a richer mod experience. Especially the 64x stuff. It's like buried treasure waiting to be dug up.

How do you think I do my editing? I just pull a texture I like from Glimmar's old alt files, bring it up to 64x, and attach it to the block of my choosing. Makes for good treasure hunting.
P.S. Thanks again Glimmar for putting my edited pack in your OP.

Making specific textures for new blocks is hard work, but it does sometimes create alts in the process. I wish there was more free time to just make random alts and let users decide what fits best. So I do a bit of both really. There are some good things to say about recent changes to Minecraft, in that personalising texture/resource packs is now much easier than before 1.5 and that makes life a lots easier for me.
The pack still has to come ready to use with my choices, and therein lies the difficulty sometimes.

As time goes by, hopefully there will be more useful 64x textures to catch up with the choice of 32x.
I've been using this texture pack for a while now, and I have to say that I love it. It's great, and I've started my first ever big Minecraft build using it. I've got some pictures, just in case someone cares.
*SNIP*
As you can see I've had a lot of fun with your texture pack, and I can't wait for the next update. Well done for all the hard work.
Very nice. I like the smaller, i'm going with houses, among the larger buildings. Makes for a nice contrast.

Also a quick question, I didn't see it mentioned in your main thread post (or if it is I missed it), but what tools do you use to create this pack?
Are there any other mods you guys would recommend with this pack?

Curse PremiumNot long now! I have to get this on the road soon or it'll get left behind when I have to 'get on the road'!
Mostly just Gimp is the answer to your second question.

Curse PremiumThe airship mod and others by pchan3 is being supported here now:

Hope that helps.

No probs!
Hopefully, that doesn't become an issue.
