Try number three! Finally got time. Arrows are now bolts! The bow is now easier to use! This goes in your items folder in the same folder as your minecraft executible!
I love your crossbow but it's a 32x32 image and I don't know how to get it into my items.png(aside from scaling it, and then it just looks terrible) please help.

Here, try this one
(it's for 32x32) The only difference is that it is slightly darker.

Brainstorm, people. The Fishing Rod is often used to grab mobs and pull them closer...
We now have a badass harpoon cannon...
I think this idea explains itself.
Just tried it out, it didn't work as expected. I knew it was going to turn into a stick when used, but I didn't expect my character to be aiming it at his own head! I guess the rendering for the rod is backwards.

Alright, I'm currently using a mashup of several packs so this is my item.png
But thanks for the larger image anyway, I'll see if I resize some of the items I'm using now

i JUST want the crossbow, and or the bow gun.
could you please tell me how i could do that without getting this whole thing ?
First, you're going to want to resize your items.png to 512x512 (200%),
Next, right click the items you want from the first post (so say the crossbow),
After that, go into an image editor, delete the space with the normal bow, and put the crossbow in its stead,
Finally, put this new items.png into the are where your minecraft executable is located (put minecraft into a folder, inside that folder, create another called gui, put the png in that folder), start up minecraft, and it should work.
Don't hesitate to tell me if you have any problems with it.

You are absolutely AMAZING! And my compass and watch work now :biggrin.gif:
Soz if this is a stupid question but how do i use the alternatives
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Nightmares torment me. I can no longer resist the call of the infinite. Their blows rain heavy. My wraithbone cracks. My sight in this world dims. I return to slumber. My soulstone, please take it. Save...the others
Can I get some instructions on how to add the blowtorch and the crossbow with bolts to the texture page? I'd also like to use some of your alternative blocks but again I don't know how to put them into use. Thank you in advance for your help.
I would really like to help everyone on this, but I'm going to leave this to others to explain, or I won't get anything new finished, including a much needed steampunk 'item' sheet, etc. There are plenty of explanations on the forum and it looks like some of you kind folks (thanks Tlos, again) are doing a good job of explaining already. If I have time, and when we've accumulated a goodly amount of spare textures, I'll try and throw together some kind of pictorial tutorial so that folks can learn to mix and match the various tools themselves - it's not rocket science...even I can do it, and I really am very slow when it comes to computer graphics (if you hadn't already noticed!).

And now for the harpoon cannon: The harpoon, it didn't really turn out as well as I'd like, but it looks pretty good ingame. The rifle. It's powered by both gear and pressurized steam (the chamber on the bottom)! looks pretty cool ingame. Another arrow replacement. turns out the folder is called item instead of items.
If you want any changes, I'd be happy to oblige.
Edit: I just realized, over half of my posts are in a topic.
Hehe! Awesome little pixel graphics there, Tlos. You are really being generous with your time here and it is very much appreciated. I'll throw them to the top again.
Thanks for helping others with explanations, etc. I just haven't the time at the mo' and I feel guilty leaving folks floundering with such nice little goodies on offer.
As soon as I get my diving helmet done, finished off my biome triangles and uploaded the next update to this pack, I will concentrate on the items sheet, and to get it out sooner than later I will incorporate as many of the tools you do to start with, along with other contributions, if you didn't mind. I'd still like to do my own version at some stage, but there is no reason why your work and the work of others couldn't always be on offer as alternative items, especially as I am so slow!!
Well I for one am very glad more than half of all your posts are in this topic! :smile.gif:
This is on a different tack, but I thought it worth mentioning:
I was re-reading the thread, and noticed that VernianProcess, the mad Steampunk musician, has made his one and only Minecraft Forums post in this thread. Dear Glimmar, if you ever meet him again, please ask him if he'd be willing to compose a few short songs to replace the standard .ogg files. The way you mentioned him it sounded like you knew him outside of the web...
We corresponded via PM on this forum, when he approached me with the offer of his music for this theme pack. After contacting the global moderator for approval I got back to Vernian Process and said I'd be delighted to be able to offer folks his music on this thread and they never got back to me with the tracks. I think they are very busy at the moment, so Minecraft is probably a low priority, but I've just sent another PM to him. Vernian Process are currently offering their old instrumental music for free download I think, so you could head on over there (easily Googled) and have yourself some nice atmospheric background music while using this texture pack! :smile.gif:
Hope he does get back in touch, it would be great to offer even just one track on this thread.
Lovin' what you've done with the church! :smile.gif:
I like the light fixture too. My sons have minecraft and your light fixture reminds me of the time we made a hilarious disco dance floor, underneath a glass patterned floor. We intended to use redstone torches and try out a redtsone dust circuit so that someone would be able to control the lights under the floor, but this texture pack kind of took over. :biggrin.gif:
Just to help people out who want to use some of the new items I modified a standard 32x32 items.png located in the gui folder here we have red markings on the objects that are changed so ppl know what has been changed:
Wood shovel replaced by Drill
Fishing Rod replaced by Harpune
Stone Sword replaced by Crossbow
and here the 'items.png' that you should rename to it and put in the Texture Pack ZIP of Glimmar in the 'gui - folder',
be sure to make or extract and save the original 'items.png' if you want to go back from the changed items.
Please test/ comment and make suggestions also if your not content with the replacement suggest why and which item should instead replaced by 'crossbow' as example ^^ I put guides in PS so I can replace any item if ya demand.
Also I placed the items in the direction that seemed to make most sense e.g. crossbow away from body pointing at enemy
Ops just noticed I missed the blowtorch...will have a look please give feedback thnx
Nice work there, Tiger4Ruler. I think the crossbow gun was supposed to replace the bow and the arrow with the bolt! I could be wrong, but I think that's what Tlos intended. Then folk can fire the bolt with the crossbow gun.
Just to point out to everyone that none of the item textures above belong to me. Many thanks for doing this and if you could include the blowtorch by Heftig (there's also a nice watch by 'haxjagarn' further back in the thread too) that would be awesome.
As soon as I can, I will put together a purely steampunk item sheet, then we're not stepping on anyone's creative toes. Whose is the item sheet artwork by? They should be credited I think. :smile.gif:
So can I patch the water & lava without getting a black screen?

@Glimmar: Updated sheet in my original posting to save space here!!
As far as crediting for the items.png goes I can not pinpoint who the artist was that first made this 32x32 template, be sure to call out and we credit you, and in the meantime I am working at replacing what I can replace, as far as you can see I have added 'Glimmars wooden & steel doors' made a new kinda dark suited gentleman suit with monocle etc.
I will update my first post of the items not to make to many post in here!
Thanks, Tiger4Ruler. You've been busy, but for all those folks who wouldn't know how to approach pasting these tools in, etc. It will be very helpful. :smile.gif: I'd just feel a little happier if you knew who the originator of the original template was. I'd hate for them to complain that they hadn't been asked.
So can I patch the water & lava without getting a black screen?
I haven't tried it yet, but I would think patching the custom water and lava should be fine now. If you do get the black screen, don't worry, it shouldn't do any harm, exit Minecraft and run the patcher again and de-select those Options. Xau's update yesterday was made to fix those specific problems, as everything else for 32x32 was already ok. :smile.gif:
Then again, I didn't notice Notch had updated again, so unless xau's MC Patcher has also changed it might not be possible to have custom water and lava again! Oh well, here's what I've been doing lately...
Handy tip: I've taken to saving a copy of my Minecraft 'bin' folder now (as most of the recent updates have been for multi-player, which doesn't interest me as much as single play) then, when there's an update, I swap out the updated 'bin' folder, put my old working one (with all my favourite mods) in it's place and everything is back to normal. Now when you run the game don't forget to disable your password in the launch screen, when it fails to download just select to play 'offline'.
Then when all the modders and xua's patcher have caught up, I just delete my favourite (working) bin folder, download minecraft afresh and all the updated mods, and then carry on from there (saving a backup of the new bin folder). Then it's not quite so traumatic, if all you're wanting to do is carry on building with your favourite setup.
I just wanted to say to Glimmer that this is the only 32x32 I use, and the one of two HD packs I use. I usually stick to 16x16 but this pack was just so amazingly beautiful I had to go for it. Thank you for taking the time out of your probably busy life to make such a wonderful piece of art. Thank you!
I want to thank Tlos for providing the explanation on how to add the items I asked about to the items.png I now have a crossbow, bolts, torch and an new watch!

Use a program like Gimp or Photoshop and move the alternate texture to the location of the one you want to replace
