Try number three! Finally got time. Arrows are now bolts! The bow is now easier to use! This goes in your items folder in the same folder as your minecraft executible!
Well... I downloaded the pack, put it in the folder, activated it, went into my save, and proceeded to blow a large hole right out side of my base because I mistook a tnt block for something else. Not your fault I know, but I thought a few of you might get a cheap laugh out of it.
It's got the little exclamation mark on it, you should have been able to tell!
Besides, who leaves TNT just lying around, anyway?
I didn't just have tnt lying around, I saw a wierd looking block in one of my chests, and since I hadn't played in a few days, I forgot what it was, so I placed one to get a closer look to see if I could figure out what it was.
Which didn't happen until I punched it to retrieve it.
I'd also like to say, that it scared me a fair bit more than the first time I saw a ghast when it went into it's countdown.

@Tlos: Wow, now that is a fine crossbow device, I must say well done! I'm going to download it right now!
@Tiger4Ruler: I think I forgot to say 'thank you' for pointing out my careless blunder the other day so; Thanks friend. I'm still a little new at this posting and uploading business, and apparently it shows quite badly in some cases, I never would have spotted that mistake (why would I download my own image? Hehe) so thanks. I like your 'Warning' image for the TnT by the way, it has that certain 'Danger! Keep Away!' feel to it.
@Glimmar: Please, feel free to include my Gui in your pack! I would be honored that you thought it was that good! Just glad to help out where I can. I also have to say, that diving helmet, it is as good as anything I've seen from any AAA game studio (minus all those shaders that they insist on plastering all over everything), well done! This pack keeps getting better and better. Keep it up!
Try number three! Finally got time. Arrows are now bolts! The bow is now easier to use! This goes in your items folder in the same folder as your minecraft executible!
How's that?
And you know what they say about third time lucky! That looks simply beautiful!! Wow! I am very impressed with the artwork, Tlos and it will be an honour to have it at the top of the thread. Many thanks indeed! That little gadget could very well be the first thing in ages to get me to turn off 'peaceful'!
I do hope this won't be your last offering! :smile.gif: The availability of Many little mechanical devices like this, is what I envisage Steamcraft on Minecraft to eventually become, similar to Kaz's excellent Painterly pak where it's possible to choose one's 'loadout' in a Steampunk world. Keep up the good work, Tlos!
This may be out of place in the progression, but at least one of the wooden tools available to the player should be a cane or walking stick. Actually, maybe all of them should be, with a different embellishment for each, or a hastily added wooden piece to make it better at what it does. Besides, no true gentleman would be caught dead without his cane, in the event a wandering creeper needs a quick bludgeoning.

Wow! I got reviewed folks! Many, many thanks, Gikon. Love the website too, I'm honoured to be on it and grateful for the trouble you went to to review my pack, and you were more than generous to boot! :biggrin.gif:

It could be combined with the wrench weapon idea.
Wood: Cane
Stone: ???
Iron: Wrench
Diamond: ???
Gold: (Either could work here, but I think a golden cane would be fancier)
It would make sense since in real life a wooden cane would would hurt a lot but still do less damage than other weapons made of better materials, say a sword or iron wrench.
@Glimmar: First huge compliments on your diving helm / pumpkinblur looks outstanding and the green shimmering and light bronze lightning are artisticly oversweet mate, real shows that you tinkered alot with it, my early version yaps like a duck and hides from it! :wink.gif:
On the matter of TNT I would suggest someone did a sweet one with an exploding creeper, no idea who and where on this forum! I suggest a caution-sign like so:
I found the idea of doing a caution-sign with exploding creeper real cool.
@Gameguy602: Sorry to hear it hope you got away and not blown up and repaired the damage to your world ^^
Thanks for the compliments, It's a slow process, because I want to get the effect and detail as right as it can be. If someone's going to be bothered to use this for any length of time underwater (and I've been trying it out with 'dougbenham's' breathing apparatus mod, enjoying working at the bottom of my dock - levelling out the bottom with dirt, readying it for when i have some time to build my own personal Nautilus sub! Great fun) it's going to have to look nice to look at inside and make up for the loss of peripheral vision. I can tell you now it's pretty murky way down there, so you're going to have to start collecting those underwater pumpkin lights to use on any major projects you want to build, but I think the murkiness adds to the realism. I've had to keep the glass visor transparency almost clear and tone down the underwater texture, otherwise it was counter-productive wearing the helmet, even though it gave unlimited breathing capacity. I'm really looking forward to some very deep sea diving.
Just thought! It would be awesome if there was an undersea equivalent to the Ghast, a tentacled monstrosity that we could use Tlos's crossbow gun on. Now that really would feel Jules Verne territory. Tlos, how about a harpoon gun variant, just for underwater! I know there's nothing down there to hunt at the moment, but still good for target practice for when Notch does finally introduce a water predator. Would be even better if some clever modder techno wizard could convert the grappling hook mod idea into a harpoon fishing line arrangement. :biggrin.gif: Also there's now good reason for one of the suits of armour to be some kind of diving/hasmat suit - mostly just for effect with the diving helm. I'm also thinking the pumpkin block front texture needs attention, when i look at it now I realize it just looks aweful, especially when illuminated. There are too many of my textures that were rushed. Sorry folks!
Thanks for the TNT symbol, I'd considered that way back, but the problem was lack of space on the side, I think (without checking) there's only a max 10x10 pixels and that's why I ended up using an exclamation mark. I've given up on the idea of the TNT block multi-tasking! It's too darn dangerous and I don't want to be responsible for any more accidental demolitions, as funny as they might be! :smile.gif: I think adding some wires coming from the fuse on the side might also help folks understand what it is. What we really should have as well, is the sound of someone's voice going, "Warning, this device will self destruct in T-minus 5 seconds...so please don't hit me!"

Yes! Don't forget that every Victorian (well not 'every', slight exaggeration) gentleman had his sword stick to walk with (hidden blade in his walking stick), would be nice if some extra steampunk gadgety goodness could be added too! :smile.gif:
Alright, well me being not too good at putting my ideas to paper, I can only tell you what I'm thinking. Maybe for the pick-axe, it could be a drill or jackhammer. Steam powered, of course. Both of those ideas are interchangeable with the shovel. Buckets could be made of brass or something. Also, just for fun, could you turn the ham into bacon? I mean come on, bacon is awesome.
Mmm! Liking those ideas too, and I like bacon...and the idea very much! My mouth is watering already! :biggrin.gif:
Mr Glimmar,
I seem to have caught myself in a difficult predicament.
I cannot recolour water for more then half a second and I cannot edit transparent pixels without ruining them.
If you could perhaps aid me in my time of need, I shall be most gracious and grateful.
Your friend,
Valdrec.
If I can help, I will, Valdrec. I'll PM you though, in case I bore everyone silly, with my longwinded way with words! Also if anyone else can help with advice too, Vladrec would appreciate it. :smile.gif:
[edit] I'll have to PM you tomorrow though... my youngest is poorly and has just woken up and even Minecraft has to stop for that! :smile.gif:
Can I get some instructions on how to add the blowtorch and the crossbow with bolts to the texture page? I'd also like to use some of your alternative blocks but again I don't know how to put them into use. Thank you in advance for your help.
And now for the harpoon cannon: The harpoon, it didn't really turn out as well as I'd like, but it looks pretty good ingame. The rifle. It's powered by both gear and pressurized steam (the chamber on the bottom)! looks pretty cool ingame. Another arrow replacement. turns out the folder is called item instead of items.
If you want any changes, I'd be happy to oblige.
Edit: I just realized, over half of my posts are in a topic.
This is on a different tack, but I thought it worth mentioning:
I was re-reading the thread, and noticed that VernianProcess, the mad Steampunk musician, has made his one and only Minecraft Forums post in this thread. Dear Glimmar, if you ever meet him again, please ask him if he'd be willing to compose a few short songs to replace the standard .ogg files. The way you mentioned him it sounded like you knew him outside of the web...
