Ok, so I just downloaded the snapshot pack, and I realize that some of this stuff was available in v10, but since I've been playing the snapshots for 1.5, I hadn't noticed some of the new stuff. Now that I have your test pack setup by you for the snapshots I'm seeing it for the first time. Oh how I've missed ctm! Your new pumpkins are amazing! The animations blow me away. I love the stone half-slabs. Now I'll have to go back and see how to get your friezes. Top notch! With those new pumpkins I can totally see the difference 64x makes. blown away!
I love your texture pack so much! Its full of imagination and surprise. I usually judge texture packs by what the villagers look like, and I would have thought negativly towards the fact your pack used humans as villagers, but I was half wrong. The robot villagers took me by surprise, and love it! The zombies also look great, the human looking android scared me when I thought I found a villager in a cave. I also like the variation of similar robot types. I recommend this pack to all my friends! Great work Mr. Glimmar!

When I was rushing to get the snapshot update out, I had you in mind, juliusand1. Glad you like and many thanks. I hope you and others can have a go at renaming the alts and dropping them into various 'block' slots. I haven't had the time to experiment myself.
Let me see any pics that might inspire.

My pm to the Ragnarok server owner wasn't initially well received! here
Too bad I'm refraining from using 1.5 until it's final (or, more likely, when the server I'm playing on is able to update to it. Which is when Bukkit is able to).
I'm supposed to be in hiding now, but I need the occasional break!
You're only really missing the cast iron nether fence and the new ghast. All the other new 1.5 additions are still default textures in this version. This is just to cut me some extra time when Mojang suddenly release 1.5, and gives folk a chance to perhaps make some suggestions as to what the new blocks and stuff should be.
It's such a large pleasure to meet you! But, I got a Sunlight-Detector texture for you! It's in 32x32 though.
Nice to meet you too, _Phillipzu_. Also welcome to the forum.
I will be making my own Sunlight-Detector of course, which will go in my official 1.5 pack download. When I get round to updating my 'alternative textures' download (now separated from the main pack), I could include yours as an alternative texture others may wish to use. Please make sure your work is original and not 'borrowed' from someone else.

I'm honored. As it is, I've got a busy week, so I'm not sure when I'll get to have much fun with it. Then again, I had a busy weekend, and yet I dropped massive time into MC. I appreciate the consideration, nonetheless.
Hey i made a showcase of it (its not up yet) but check it out here! youtube.com/FindAWolfsorry i meant to type that into the search bar (not the youtube.com lol)
I am very upset. Very. This texture pack does not support modes IC2 and Forestry. What's the real machinery without them? More precisely, the support, but halfway. Especially the various mechanisms and farm remain textures. I dreamed of building a steampunk city ... Long plagued by trying to combine different textures, but could not do anything ...
IC2 is supported. Mostly. It's in the first post in Mod Support.
Like I said.
> Especially the various mechanisms
I cant see textures of all farms, but I see textures of harvesters from Forestry. Other blocks from this mod works good. No one machine of IC2 not work properly. I see original textures of macerator, recycler or extractor, for example. But other items/blocks of IC2 works right! Something wrong...
If anyone is looking for some inspiration for a build, might I suggest this sewage pumping station, from 1860's London?
Sssshhhhhh! Quick! Don't show this vid, sheep! I'm already basing a lot of my new stuff off of some other Victorian pumping stations I have screens of. I don't want anyone else nicking the idea first though. Lol! Anyway, I have it on record now.
They are just the most incredible places where functionality, art, technology, science of that time, all came together to form such amazing places.
I'll give you a taster of what I've done with the nether fence texture to show what I'm working towards with other things. It took an age to figure how to get the random texture to skin correctly over all the horizontal, vertical and side textures, but hope you see how useful it will be for lamp stands, bollards, fences, decoration, pistons, etc. Works well with my 'British Rail' minecart design too....something badly in need of upgrading to a higher res. The gold decoration at the top is designed to mesh as well as can be expected with my old gas lamp torch.
Anyways, here's the latest iteration of cast iron nether fence:
By the way, and something I should have mentioned first, all was settled amicably with the 'Ragnarok' server folks. I'm allowing use of my textures on the condition that I am properly credited, my link banner is displayed prominently and a statement is included that the server pack is for the use of members only and must not be uploaded as a standalone pack with my textures on board.
I didn't want to spoil the fun over there by ripping my textures out to prove a point of ownership, but I would be forced to if proper credit, link and info isn't displayed prominently while my textures are in use.

That was a mistake on my end, sorry. If you look in the folder marked "Older Mod Files", you will find two sets of IC2 support textures, and both of those have the Machine textures. Just pick which of those you'd like to use (I'd suggest the CuZn Dragon set, as it also includes a fair number of other IC2 textures) and add that in to the other stuff.
I've been meaning to fix this, but I've been a bit busy with RL stuff lately.

Back to work.
I love that touch of color on the fences. Gives it a burnished look. Like a thousand hands everyday are keeping the true color exposed while soot and grime collect in the recesses.
Here is a shot of the new ghast in it's natural environment:
And this is just a mock up for the nether quartz Ore block, using existing artwork from the alt textures:
I'm not sure if that is what you are thinking Glim, and I am sure whatever you come up with will be a lot cooler looking. One thing that has struck me going through all the alt textures is first, how much work has been put into the pack. It's obvious that Glim has tried out many different variations tweaking til he gets each one right. Second thing I noticed is how far the pack has come, Glim has progressed substantially as a texture artist. Granted, working with 4 times the pixels now, makes a huge difference. Still, your grasp of communicating with limited pixels has become more sophisticated over the course of the pack. We all benefit greatly because of it.

Not a very good illustration here, and a bit too modern, but this was the kind of gold on black lacquered decorated cast iron look I was going for.

Love that nether crystal, but I'm pursuing something I think everyone will think is totally absurd, so I'll keep that image as inspiration in case my idea falls completely flat! It looks very 3-dimensional in that screen!
It was daft that I didn't show a screen of the ghast in the nether! Just rushed for time I guess, so I'm pleased it looks ok.
Many thanks for the compliments. Looking back how I made things at the start is a bit depressing really, but I still like to think at the time I did try to introduce something completely different with very limited skills as an amateur digital artist. Oooo! If I could only turn the clock back and do some things differently, but Minecraft and MC Patcher have progressed beyond my wildest imaginings. I doubt I'd even attempt to start anything nowadays and have the utmost respect for anyone starting from scratch now!

There are alt textures with slashes through them like that, so in photoshop I made a selection from the negative space, moved to the hellrock texture and deleted from within the selection. I placed the gears on a layer behind the hellrock so they peered through the slashes. Then a little dodging and burning to give it the feeling of depth. The gears are a little fuzzy, I upsized the 32x texture to be 64x, and that process always blurs things, since the program has to create data that didn't exist before.
I play around with the textures, but the thought of starting a whole pack from the bedrock up is very intimidating. And as the community gets more visually sophisticated, I can't imagine actually releasing a texture to the public. Anything that I would think about doing would be for me only.
I'm going to take a minor detour from talking textures to mention something in the topic of 'General Steampunkery.' There is a game I've been following the development of recently that I think the folks here would appreciate. It's being done by the Dungeons of Dreadmore folks (Gasslamp Games) and has a Steampunk / Lovecraft theme. It looks to be an empire building / colony sim full of pipes, mechanical deathtraps, and unknowable horrors. Clockwork Empires
Now that the clock and compass are animated rather than having a hardcoded rotating face/needle, maybe you could give the clock a pocket watch design? That would certainly fit the Victorian steampunk theme you have going.
They're two important projects I want to get right, though whether or not I'm up to the task to do the theme justice is anyone's guess. The compass I see as being straight forwardly tilted to the horizontal. The clock/watch is something slightly more problematical, because I would really like to do the thing face on so that it can be used as a wall clock in the picture frames. Set at an illusory tilted angle wouldn't look right. So I hope folk will be as happy when holding up their clock-come-pocket watch vertically.
I keep flitting between projects and have sketches, clips and ideas for most things, but I'm not being very efficient about it at the moment.
Deepblue, You realize my cast iron nether posts are partly due to your prompting over the past few months. Hope you like it's look. I decided to keep it simple and not tackle it in the same way as Misa, so the nether brick texture is still in evidence when it's broken up, but it looks suitably rusty in appearance so more than acceptable as far as I'm concerned.

You would not believe how close you are to my own absurd ideas with what you've done there! Between you and ksheep, I'm beginning to wonder if you've both got direct access to my desktop or sketchbook or something.
Having riveted panels in the nether and alt textures already based on ores behind panels, had already set me on a course obviously similar to yourself, and probably everyone else using my texture pack. I'm attempting to use ctm in the hope that I can make the netherquartz ore a very useful prop in creative and yet believable as source material for making what I have in mind for the new quartz blocks, which won't be quartz or marble...I can tell you that now! It'll hopefully be something much more useful for this theme.

Looks to be a great game, with lots of very clever brainstorming behind it. However, it's the writing that's particularly good fun. The names are just splendidly funny..."Bollox Cogsbronze" I wish I'd thought of that for my forum name here! Thanks, mate!
I was glancing through posts over at TAU and saw you mentioned that you are a hobbyist blacksmith. I think if I had the chance to start over with a career, I'd have loved to have trained as a blacksmith. I still have fond memories of two years of 'metalwork' at secondary school and had the opportunity to do a little bronze casting at art college. Stone carving would come as a close second...either skills end up with finished items which could last for an age! Both appeal to me on a survivalist level too. haha!

It's only a little thing, that nether fence, but worth spending the time it took, because of all the uses you can put it to.
