Thank you so much for helping! I'll post up some pictures of my house when I can.
Also, may I see what the diamond block ( ), fence, and wool blocks please? It would make my plan a little easier.

Here's something, it's not good, but it works.
Just put the two files into your items.png file, and the file in the items folder into your corresponding items folder in the jar.(or just put the items folder into the same folder as your minecraft) http://www.mediafire.com/?l84t1mm00bmmw0b
(the items folder is optional, it makes the arrows into very small bullets that embed mostly into a shot object, making them hard to find again. [>>-i>]
Also, If you don't like the magazine for the ammo, I can change it to a few bullets. Or, I could overhaul the whole thing to make a crossbow.
make a version with blue water(that that odd green color) and I would say its a really great unique pack. I do use it though from time to time, the water makes me go back to other packs.

Thats like saying all cars fail because you don't know how to put gas in them.
This is epic. Getting better each day. Dying to see what you do with the items!
I check this thread every day for updates, and recommend it to everyone I know who plays! Bravo sir!

Alright I became inspired, I couldn't help it, your pack is too good, it is inspirational in it's own way. So I made these interface buttons for your title screen (I tested them thoroughly this time and made sure they weren't backwards or upside-down or anything like that, they work as intended...). I stole your netherstone texture for the background and then added some steampunky doo-hickeys to it. I hope they're good enough until your own are posted, just save image as and then paste it into your GUI folder in the .jar
Full steam ahead!
I love this pack, and I wish you the best with it,
Heftig
PS: You're not slow, everyone else is too fast! You're and artist and you take the time to get things done right. If you didn't your pack wouldn't be what it is today! Take your time and work your magic at your own pace, it'll be great when it gets done!
Edit: grrr, I uploaded the wrong URL, it was the thumbnail instead of the real image, it should be right now...(always something...)
Thank you so much for helping! I'll post up some pictures of my house when I can.
Also, may I see what the diamond block ( ), fence, and wool blocks please? It would make my plan a little easier.
It's a pleasure. Glad I can help, or at least try to help get it working.
Looking forward to seeing the pics of your house, and here is a little guide/key to what some of the more unique steampunk textures are! Hope this helps, until I can produce a more refined key.
The fence texture is made up 'internally' by the game from the 'wood' texture, there isn't a seperate bit of artwork for it, sadly, or I would have liked to have done something black and 'wrought iron-like' instead.
Please note, since Notch's latest update v1.2.4_01 water and lava are broken again! After downloading this update, you will need to run xau's MC Patcher again to remove all the graphical glitches off brick, gold, pumpkin, etc. and DE-SELECT custom 'water' and 'lava' or you'll get the 'black screen of death'. If anything goes wrong just delete your Minecraft 'bin' folder (NOT your 'save' folder), launch the game and let it download a fresh copy of minecraft, then go through the process of applying the MC Patcher program (same instructions on page 1 of this thread still apply), being careful to de-select the custom water and lava options. I'm sure xau will release an update soon!
WOW, the texture pack is great (just downloaded it) reeeeeally good job... is there anyway to change the paints ?
Thank you!
By 'paints', do you mean the paintings? If so, yes, but not from within the game. If you want a different selection of paintings you will need to search on the forums for complete 'kz.png' files of paintings. If you want your own personal selection of paintings, then you'll need to use something like photoshop, gimp, or paint.net, decide on pixel size (the original is 512x512pixels), study the orginal kz.png file in the 'art' folder of the minecraft.jar file, for correct placement of each painting, then cut and paste what you want of your own work, or pics off the internet.
That may be more info than you were looking for, but hard to tell from your question, sorry! :smile.gif:

I honestly have never liked any texture packs over 16x16, but this one is amazing! Great job, and I can't wait for the custom icons.
I've tried to make the landscape blocks easy on the eye and not heavy with texture, works better in my opinion if you like epic build projects, and only apply lots of detail to those individual manmade items. There's still a lot of editing and refinement to do yet, but thank you for the encouragement, it is much appreciated! :smile.gif:

@ zoram: Glad you've got some use out of the steampunk pack, but sorry you don't like the green water. :sad.gif:
Don't take my following rant too seriously, this is just a game after all, but I'm determined to convince you of the merits of romantic green! Lol! :biggrin.gif:
It's not so odd to have green water, infact look at most pics of the sea and you'll find it's mostly a lambent green when clear or polluted, but for this theme, green was a conscious decision. I find it hard to believe that the sea would be a bright blue colour around an industrialised steampunk city...and that's the look I'm after. I've lived by the sea and a large industrialised dock area for most of my life and bright blue, or any kind of blue for that matter doesn't come into it, I promise! You've got to remember, living in the UK, we don't do bright blue Minecraft seas! :biggrin.gif:
Green is the colour of tropical pirate hangouts and smuggler coves, dinosaur infested swamps, smoggy industrial docklands and frozen forest wastes. Vastly more interesting places than your run of the mill photoshopped blue seaside holiday destination.
To speak the unspeakable...I've always found the bright blue of vanilla minecraft water the most un-natural of colours (believe me, after more than 30 years of landscape painting, I have some experience). Most lakes and rivers are not a glowing bright blue either, and as the scale of Minecraft seas are more akin to lakes and pools I find a slight inconsistency in depicting them as cartoon blue. In any event, for a fantasy theme like steampunk, I think it's much more mysterious to have an atmospheric green. It matches my green gas lamps and the colour of my eyes... so you can see I'm emotionally attached to the colour for this theme! :biggrin.gif:
However, I do have an open mind and I do like to please...given the time, I will look into a water variant for those who like an 'odd' blue colour, hows that, but only if you agree that there's really nothing odd about green water? :biggrin.gif:
End of silly rant!
@ D1g1talDragon: Many thanks indeed. My sincere apologies for the delay in updates.
I'm currently working on an old diving helm pumpkinblur texture to work with the 'breathing apparatus' mod by dougbenham. The difficulty lies in getting the light levels both on the surface and underwater at the optimum level.
I appreciate the encouragement though and your checking in daily. I'll do my best not to disappoint. :smile.gif:
[edit] That little avatar guy of yours is awesome! Reminds me I really need to change my own skin sometime to match this theme. I'm still using a little fiery imp skin I made when i first bought Minecraft!
Sneak Peak!
Work in progress. I'm currently working on an old diving helm to work with the 'breathing apparatus' mod by dougbenham and to tie in with my steampunk theme. The problem I found was that there are no pics on the internet that I could find of the interior of an 'antique' diving helmet. So I had to make a model and photograph from the inside looking out, just to work out the light levels and correct shading.
This is still early work as I have to make a glass layer and include a number of appropriate dials and pressure gauges on the inside.
In the background you can see my illuminated pumpkin helm, the only cheap source of illumination to be found in the game (without mods) that works under water and necessary for seeing in my murky depths and wearing the helm. Going for atmosphere here, not just practicality! :smile.gif:
1. Pumpkin Helmet?
2. Is this mroe then a texture pack? or can I put the .zip file in the minecraft folder and use the texture picker on it?
1. You can put any pumpkins you find on your head and wear it as a helmet.
2. Right now Glimmar has only officially released a texture pack, so putting it in the modpack file within Minecraft will work, except for the "glitched" blocks in HD.
Also, I'd like to vouch for the green water. I live in the South Carolina Lowcountry, where the water varies from brown to green to grey to light blue
Why does every update break the brick blocks and netherstone for me? The brick blocks wind up quartered, with each quarter showing a different image, and the netherstone shows as bright blue and flowing.
Why does every update break the brick blocks and netherstone for me? The brick blocks wind up quartered, with each quarter showing a different image, and the netherstone shows as bright blue and flowing.
thanks!
This happens to all the HD texture packs because Notch's major updates replace the changes xau's MC Patcher makes to remove the graphical glitches. Just re-run the MC Patcher (see my note at the top of page 1 of this thread) and de-select custom water and lava for now until xau updates his patcher, or you will just get a black screen at start up. Everything else should still be ok, as far as I know.
I've taken to saving a copy of my Minecraft 'bin' folder now (as most of the recent updates have been for multi-player which doesn't interest me as much as single play) then when there's an update I swap out the updated 'bin' folder, put my old working one (with all my favourite mods) in it's place and everything is back to normal. Then when all the modders and xua's patcher have caught up, I just delete the old bin folder, download minecraft afresh and all the updated mods, and then carry on from there (saving a backup of the new bin folder). Then it's not quite so traumatic.
I do look at any new updates though, so that I can try and offer help.
Hope this has been of some help. Don't forget, I always try to put current advice up at the top of the thread on page 1 and that's where all the instructions for patching and installing reside!
Don't get too frustrated, you do get used to it, and as mentioned above, there are quick easy work-arounds.

@ Heftig: Awesome work, again I very much doubt I'll do better (though I'll eventually have a good go at it! ;p) Really cool of you to do this. It keeps folk interested and I'm grateful for you easing the pressure a little (hehe, more 'steam' related puns!). The animation of the little pistons is excellent!
With family commitments I don't have as much time as I would like, especially on the run up to the Holiday season here! I'm in awe of how fast you guys churn cool stuff out.

I want to use these right now! Could I include them in my next update until i get round to doing my version? I'll do this and give you both credit in the update post unless you tell me otherwise. I doubt I'll be blowing anyone away with my version (not unless they accidentally use my TNT in place of a boiler! :biggrin.gif:), but you've given me ideas already and more time to do them justice.
Thanks, guys. Done in the spirit of Minecraft!
