Hey Gimmar, to put my spin on the nether brick texture, i think cast iron is a great idea. also i found this gem in one of the alternates folders and have been using it for my builds. i also think it fits the whole rusted metal theme of the nether.
if your looking for rusted pipes i think it works really well too.

Looks like a good alternative to me. Probably the easiest way to go about this, and shouldn't break too many builds.
Did you clean up the OP recently? Looks neater/more organized than last time I was here, Very nice! Love the horizontal rule design! (if these are not new forgive my ignorance :P)
Anyways, I made a texture today and it made me think of your pack so I thought Id show ya!

Haha! Yes, I remember that. The only problems with it are tiling issues, and I'd like to do something different rather than going over old ground.
I like those alternate torches too! That's another thing I want to experiment with sometime. Ooowee, so much I want to do and not enough time in which to do it!:D
Glim, I have to say I like the new Ghast, and the cast iron approach for Nether Brick sounds like it might be interesting.
Thanks sheep. It looks even better when moving, because it has this 'matrix' feel to it, like it's patrolling...It felt in-keeping with the industrial feel of my dockland and worked well in the nether, especially when it occasionally submerged under the lava.
It does need more work. There were supposed to be clearly visible pincers on the ends of the dangly telescopic arms, but I think Minecraft randomises the height of each iteration of the appendages and so for some reason it gets clipped. Also the gun barrel, supposedly a hyper-heating element that forms balls of brimstone, needs more differentiation between resting and firing.
It was rather nice playing on 'creative-easy' having the ghasts floating around the dock as if on business.
Looks like a good alternative to me. Probably the easiest way to go about this, and shouldn't break too many builds.
Haha! Having razed everyone's hopes, now that I've established I can fairly easily make cast iron use of the nether brick fence, I'm kind of hankering after keeping the bricks. Whatever happens, 1.5 is going to be a lot easier for everyone to mix and match alternatives to get what they want.

Yes! The OP needed a good tidying...still no where near where it should be...at least it's not the complete and utter mess it was before, but it doesn't compare with your expert graphics.
That's one very nice controller block! Ooo the things you can do with 512x512 pixels!! Will you be animating it? As I've found, anything with mechanical components like cogs included, begs to be moving in some way. That would certainly tax even a good machine at 512x.
(It does seem to have some issues with apostrophes though.)
Wow! It's all changed, just today! This morning everything was normal and now my white page has gone all dark iron grey on a flame graphic 'curse' background. It all looks very swish, but I'm not sure about my section heading gizmos, as they were made to appear to be holding the tops of worn white paper and now it looks like the tops of silvery sheets of metal. Can't decide if it's an improvement or not...for the brass paper holders I mean. The rest look great!
[edit] Actually I really like the paper heading now as they look like the edge of old 'negative' film plates.
The Title seems to be behaving ok for me. Meaning I haven't done anything to it and it's displaying ok.
[edit2] Ah! You were talking about the new widget title, not the main page. Penny dropped when I had a sip of tea!
Anyways, I better get a little 'actual' work done. I just seem to have spent the entire evening answering PMs, youtube comments, and emails.
Keep the thoughts coming though, even if I don't reply, I'll still try to glance over the posts. Thank you.

More mod support textures from me.
Updated RailCraft textures with all the fancy new ones in the latest release of railcraft and a few changes to the old ones.
railcraft/client/textures/railcraft.png
Added Steam Locomotive, Sandy Bricks, Trackman's goggles, Engineer's Overalls and Whistle Tuner.
Modified Infernal Bricks, Crushed Obsidian, Iron, Steel & Diamond Tunnel Bore heads, Turbine Blade, Turbine Rotor and Tubine Disk.
I added some other blocks, but I have no idea what they are or what they do. They don't seem to be implemented yet, so the textures are temps.
railcraft/client/textures/machines.png
Added the missing top textures for the new world anchor, some new metal plate thingies that I can't identify and put some alternate textures for the blast furnace in the corner.
Modified Coke Oven Bricks to match the Sandy Bricks texture (with a new door on the oven) and darkened the Water Tank textures a bit.
I also recolored the Blast Furnace Bricks to match the Infernal Bricks texture and changed the actual furnace face on the machine to a dirty red, rather than polished metal and increased the heat aura on all furnace-type blocks (Fireboxes, coke oven, blast furnace, etc) and a few other small things like that.
railcraft/client/textures/tracks.png
Added a bunch of new rail textures. 'nuff said.
I'd better get started on gregtech again. There's another... 30 or so blocks to add... again.

Looks good, as usual. That also takes care of a number of the broken textures from the previous version of the pack. Looks like we just need a couple minor things from IC2, Portal, and the Blink animation for ComputerCraft. I know that the Portal textures were Dazqo's, but would it be possible for you to quickly fix the IC2 and ComputerCraft ones? I'd fix the CC one myself, but been having issues with image editing as of late, and IC2 was only missing the Treealyzer, Cherry, Walnut, Chestnut, and Nightvision goggles last I checked. Should be a fairly quick fix, and then I can push a minor update for the mod texture pack (provided nothing else broke since then…)
This discussion of direct linking reminds me of something I wanted to ask about since 1.5 will do HD and animations and you now are on Curse. Being on curse means it is now possible to directly download the pack which means it can be used as a server pack. In case you are not familiar with how this works, the server tells the client "Hey use this pack you can get from here: <URL>" and then the client downloads the pack to a special folder. This also means that it's the server owner's responsibility to keep the link up to date with the correct version and pass along any updates and news to their players.
Would you be willing to let people use the pack as a server texture pack and if so, what sorts of notices would they need to provide to the players? My own thought would be to provide highly visible links to this thread and to the Curse page for the pack. (I include the Curse link because they would be providing the hosting and a direct download doesn't get them any add views.)

Many thanks. only took me about 5 hrs to build the village resource gathering included. thankfully the hole it's in was natural.
@Glimmar:
thank you for the compliment on the torches. I just thought a more industrial lighting fixture would work with my ships. all i really did was edit your redstone torch to be a yellow one. i just peruse the alts folder, find what i want and re edit it for my own purposes.
here are a few of the other things i've added my own touch on.
I found Tlos's harpoon gun and i brought it to 64x, added the barrel, gauge and the ready lights.
and here is my redstone lamp. i used your excellent enderpearl texture and fit it inside a frame.
Looks like this goes against the terms of this pack.
It is nice to see that it does include a link to this page and doesn't use ad.fly or other URL shorteners, but the direct download link does go against the terms of service…
Sheep, many thanks for standing guard on this. However, I owe you and everyone an apology for confusing the issue of my 'direct link' rule in this instance.
The owner of Minecraft mod.de approached me a while ago about the issue of direct linking...the only Minecraft mod and texture pack website to do so, so far. He explained he didn't want to break my rules and appreciated my position with regard to downloading from my MC Forums thread, rather than direct linking, but he explained that as his website was in German, a good number of his visitors would not have a good understanding of English. I agreed that this would probably cause difficulties for many finding their way around my OP for a download and instructions. I explained that a compromise might be a permanent notice/request in the write-up, asking folk to visit my website direct and providing a link, and he sweetened the deal with showing one of my videos and a separate 'interview with the artist' article here http://www.minecraft...ner-interview/.
The owner of Minecraft mod.de was very polite and accepting of all my demands and he was a refreshing change from the norm...where I usually find my pack on a website with a direct link and my name being the only connection with this thread.
Minecraft mod.de also asked if I would put a link to their site in my OP, and I said I couldn't do that, as I only did this for websites with a Steampunk theme that had a useful connection with my pack (ie. steampunk servers making use of my pack). I didn't fully understand his request and asked for further clarification, saying I wouldn't mind putting a notice in my thread to say my pack was also available for German speaking fans/users over at Minecraft mod.de, but I didn't get a reply before I saw the post above and the following commotion.
So, I have bent my own rule about 'direct linking' in this one instance, for what I think are the right reasons, in that I don't want to 'cut off my nose to spite my face' by having such draconian rules that no-one outside Curse sees my pack and needlessly cause confusion for others. Therefore, I think I need to edit that particular condition. I still need to ensure sites don't automatically direct link, but ask permission first, that they don't use adfly, and that I'm guaranteed a fair visit to this thread by a prominent link. It's probably pipe-dreams that every website in every country will respect my conditions, as unlike Minecraft mod.de many probably don't even get as far as reading my Legal section, or even think it applies to them!
This links neatly into The_Fool's question though:

I'd be grateful for anyone's thoughts on this matter and some help with wording ('cos I've done so much editing of text recently I'm getting slightly jaded). I like The_Fool's line, "to provide highly visible links to this thread and to the Curse page for the pack". This being an absolute minimum condition for any public use of my pack. I was already beginning to think my 'piracy' wording probably wasn't engendering the right atmosphere, but it was coined after trawling the net and seeing my pack popping up in all sorts of places without any link back here. Flattering in one respect, but not polite...and downright annoying when income is being generated from advertising etc. and only because mods and texture packs are being offered on their site.
As I'm getting so tired of editing my legal blurb, I think I should just put up a big notice, NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO USE MY PACK EVER! That's short and to the point!
Thanks, sheep and everyone, I always appreciate your support...shown by how quickly you picked up on the above.
The current nether brick is fine.
Gives off an "evil factory" vibe when combined with the iron nether fences.
Plus the black nether fences give a bit of colour variation to the nether forts.
For one thing, you'd actually notice them. Otherwise they just blend into the background when a nether fort wall is spawned outside covering up the window.
Yay! We're in agreement on this.
I've been meaning to get out and about with my camera again. I'm close to many old mills and factory warehouses that have the most delightful dark, mouldy brickwork...just perfect for nether brick at 64x. After 1.5, I wanted to see how ctm'ing the brick might work out, though I don't want to over complicate something that works well over massive builds with too much detail or you start seeing repeat patterns again.

Ah, simple misunderstanding. Hopefully I didn't put them off too much there. I edited the above comment to hopefully mitigate that, and I understand that this is a very logical way to go about getting the word out to users in other countries. You might suggest to them that they add a clause near the top in English saying that they do have your express permission, possibly with a link to your comment as proof, to help mitigate accusations in the future. Just a thought!

Haha! ksheep, I heartily approve of you laying down the law there. As mentioned, I'm grateful for you watching out. I've always counted you fair and reasonable and myself as the one that usually goes for the throat!
The significance of what The_Fool76 was showing me above, regarding the Curse/bukkit widget, has finally sunk in. It looks like an excellent way for me to go with my downloads in future, including making it obligatory for other websites to either use the widget, point to it or my curse page and thus have a better record of my downloads from a safe place that is officially Minecraft orientated.
I'm currently not feeling like doing much work on the pack at the moment, as I've just spent what free time I had this evening pursuing someone over at Planet Minecraft using my 'moon_phases.png' texture and my current iron door texture.
I am not best pleased, as the person doing this is a senior texture pack artist over there and a 'site moderator'! This person has not asked permission, neither does he/she credit me, and the 'Lynchyinc Remix 1.4.2' pack has an adfly link on it.
I am particularly proud of my moon_phases artwork, as it's a signature piece of work and very much a unique part of the atmosphere of my pack...it represents close on 2 weeks worth of original art work. I do not want it used in a remix pack. I'm just shocked that a 'site moderator', who should know better and should be respectful of the conditions associated with using the work of others, hasn't even bothered to check the legal section of my OP!
This 'Lynchyinc Remix 1.4.2' pack is also being distributed with a map download which is receiving a lot of interest on Youtube.
I assume use of textures, without permission of the original artist, is still against the conditions and rules of Planet Minecraft?
Normally I would deal with this privately and hope the offender was young and simply didn't understand the rules appertaining to use of work by others, but I have no qualms about venting my anger publicly here, when someone who obviously knows the rules, and should be upholding those rules, breaks them!
Anyways, no further artwork from me out of protest over this, for an indeterminate period of time, because I'm thoroughly sick and tired of putting so much work into this pack, often into the early hours of the morning, for days on end sometime, only to get ripped off!!!!
I'm seeing spin off articles with people complimenting the artist on his texture pack and at least one spin off video and an article featuring one of my moons!!
This is anger inducing, but also very depressing! Just in sharp contrast to the way Minecraft mod.de behaved and is seriously the biggest incentive for any artist to just pack in! If people given positions of responsibility do this over at Planet Minecraft, Then what's the point really!? What is the point?
Sadly im unable to create an account, but have pack followers report the post. Also call him out on it, One person can be blown off but a good few will knock some sence into the fans of that stolen pack.
I think the "Lynchyinc Remix 1.4.2" Pack is a mix of textures from a bunch of different packs. I got to looking through it and found that he's using an alt glowstone and the sticky piston from your pack as well as the moon and the iron doors.
if your looking for rusted pipes i think it works really well too.
Looks like a good alternative to me. Probably the easiest way to go about this, and shouldn't break too many builds.
Anyways, I made a texture today and it made me think of your pack so I thought Id show ya!

I am not best pleased, as the person doing this is a senior texture pack artist over there and a 'site moderator'! This person has not asked permission, neither does he/she credit me, and the 'Lynchyinc Remix 1.4.2' pack has an adfly link on it.
Here's the link: http://www.planetmin...amshire-island/
I'm sorry, I feel very strongly about this!

Curse PremiumIt's the casualness with which people do this.
I'm going to have a loooong holiday now....
