Just as a quick note, Glimmar; although I can confirm that your texture pack DOES work with Optifine, I do not recommend Optifine personally, since there are a couple of modifications which I use, (RailCraft and Iron Chests) which apparently have problems with it. It is a shame, because Optifine does have a number of options which can fix graphical issues; but c'est la vis.
Thanks, petrus4.
It's good to know there isn't anything majorly wrong with using Optifine, but as you know I can only attest for MC Patcher. I'm just wondering how Optifine will work with 1.5. MC Patcher seems to be working fine with the latest snapshot, including running all my ctm and anims on mobs, guis and of course blocks.
Between The_Fool76 and kahr, I feel we've been well looked after, for what seems one of the biggest shake-ups to Minecraft in my experience.
Course I have no idea if their description field supports any kind of formatting which might mean going back and editing the project anyway. So I'm not sure this would save those of us with more detailed descriptions much work.
Also, you have now passed every one of my packs except for Mooncraft and have made it to page #2 on the curse site.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.

I believe the issue with Optifine at the moment is a compatibility issue on Optifine's part. Most major mods found in Tekkit and FtB, including RailCraft and Iron Chests, are currently using the latest version of Forge, while Optifine is still using an older version. This has caused a number of bugs to crop up when using Optifine with the latest version of various mods, and as MCPatcher doesn't work well with Forge (last I checked, at least), we're stuck without HD textures until Optifine updates.
The nether quartz crystal and all it's spin-off blocks present some unique problems for me, as although it would make another excellent pillar and decoration block, I have to take into account it's going to be found in my copper/rusted iron panels in the nether, if I understand things correctly. So I have to pursue it in that direction. I do have some ideas in mind that definitely do not follow the 'white marble' path that others seem to be taking. However, you guys are very good at brainstorming too, so now's the opportunity to get any ideas in. I'm thinking along the lines of the pipes Duffman was asking for, which would mean the nether quartz crystal has to connect somehow with that idea and the copper panels...perhaps...secret idea, secret idea, secret idea, etc. ["it might work, captain!" Don't go getting the wrong idea...It's nothing to do with dilithium crystals...even though I like Star Trek] kind of idea
I'm just not sure how the block of quartz 'step' would figure if made up from a pipe texture? Any thoughts? Perhaps I should stick with it being a marble-ish building material.
Thank you, guys.
A couple of things that may point you in one direction or another for the nether quartz. the mined quartz item is used in a few of the new redstone components the comparator (similar to the repeater) and the light sensor. So in this respect the item could look more crystaline like a focusing crystal being added to new mechanisms, or more mechanical as if scavenging discarded parts lost in the pigmen's realm.
Also, Netherack can now be smelted into a nether brick item (1=1) which will be crafted into a nether brick block(4=1). I'm not sure how to explain rusted panels being smelted into bricks, though. Maybe some arcane alchemy... something to think about.

Yeh! I saw that, and as usual I thought my timing was as impeccable as ever, ie. dreadful!
I'm sure when I filled my description field in I had access to at least some limited formatting options...I think! It's all just a hazy memory already
As regards me being on page 2, you have to remember to add all your packs together and that would more accurately put you way ahead of me! Mooncraft was always my favorite, so I'm more than glad to be trailing in it's wake.

I kind of glanced at some of the recipes with nether quartz in and immediately thought, "This is definitely going to be a little more complex to rationalize than I originally thought". I'm now thinking more along the lines that the nether quartz fields will be exposed areas in the copper/rusted iron plate paneling, made up of random arcane inner workings...just an idea! So yet again a lot of randomizing work to get stuck into, this time perhaps with animation, thanks to Mojang making it a little easier to combine it with ctm.
Gathering parts of these strange internal mechanisms will allow you to make other things combined with redstone and when smelted down, I'm hoping to make welded or cast iron pipe column support 'thingies' that will also work in the horizontal and combine well with the existing iron block for making some awesome iron constructions. I keep telling myself that talking about it helps me formulate something vaguely believable.
I'm worried I'm 'ever so slightly a lot' complicating things unnecessarily.
Yes, the smelting of Netherack bricks is seriously making me consider changing the bricks from old red ceramic versions into some kind of small metal panels, similar to my alternate quartered riveted panels, but I'm aware this will have drastic consequences for everyone's builds, more so with mine. Advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that it will make the nether brick fences more useful as metal supports, but I do like the brick fortresses in the nether as they remind me of 18th and 19th century infernal cotton and steel mills.
1.5 is truly a tricky update.
I just want to finish this silly Ghast I started and then I'll upload a snapshot version, so that some of you can perhaps dip into 1.5 and help brainstorm...or not, as the case may be!
My first epic build completed! I finally finished my lighthouse w/ working light using a modified I found on YouTube by TheCreeperStache. His build had 4 redstone lamps on each side, but I expanded it to be 5 on each side. It was tricky getting the timing right, redstone confuses me.
But the very hardest part was building the façade to go around it. I play on survival, so no flying. No flying = me falling to my death many, many times. But now it is done and I never have to go up there again!
Anyways, here are some screen shots of the completed lighthouse:
The texture looks really good.. although mine netherack looks like flowing water
You need to use either MCPatcher or Optifine. MCPatcher is suggested, as most of the modifications in this pack are designed with it in mind, but if you are using other mods, especially Forge mods, you'll need Optifine.

Very nice lighthouse indeed...all the better because of the sacrifices made to make it. Not only falling to your death, but I bet many sessions diving to make the foundations.
I'm very intrigued by the redstone method of making the light revolve. I used to have a light house when I first started Newglim, but it never made the transition to my new world. So yet another project I'd like to get stuck into, as well as learning a little more about redstone uses off Youtube.

I plan on building a port city and the redstone lighthouse would be a necessity. Very good work. about how many hours did it take?
THE BEST!!! Are there any new textures or texture mods ... supporting mods.?
Check on the OP, near the bottom, there should be a section on mod support. Glimmar doesn't have a lot of time to personally make textures for the mods, but the various users of the pack have remixed his extra textures and made new textures to fill the gap, so we have a fair bit of coverage. About 2/3rds of the mods found in Tekkit and Feed the Beast are currently included, as well as some miscellaneous other mods. I still need to reorganize the mod texture folder a bit, as I haven't had a chance to test all of them out with the latest builds of the various mods, so I'm not entirely sure what is out of date, but you can try them out and if you do find some incomplete or broken textures, feel free to let us know.
I plan on building a port city and the redstone lighthouse would be a necessity. Very good work. about how many hours did it take?
It took way longer than It should have, even for survival. If I would have just collected a massive amount of resources and stored them at the site before starting, it would have gone a lot faster. But my personal inventory would be encumbered with adventure gear so I would only be holding a few stacks of my materials. I'd do a pass through with what I could hold, then go off to do more collecting. This got to be very tiring the higher up the lighthouse reached. Collecting wool was not so bad, but diving for clay took a long time. I'm not even sure if I could estimate how long it took, I built the tower a couple months ago, but didn't work on the lighting mechanism until just a couple days ago. And the whole process was interspersed with adventuring and working on smaller projects. I guess I'm a little ADD when it comes to my building projects.
[edit] The rotating light mechanism gives me a lot of satisfaction, especially knowing how much work went into it.
Сould you give me a link to this section, with textures for mods ... thank
Аsikar, respect! Survival game is not for wimps! Better still hardcore)))
I advise you to build a port with existing ships ... with zippilin mod ... good luck, will be epic
PS I'm from Russia and Google translator translates ... not very good, and I know English is bad ...
Your English, via Google translate, is more than understandable. Also, a great welcome to this part of the MC Texture pack section, from both myself and everyone here.
As ksheep mentioned, the 'Mod Support' section is in my OP ('original' or 'first post') on page one of this thread. Scroll down until you get to the heading 'Mod Support' and click on the 'spoilers' to reveal what mods are supported by users of this pack.
Here's a few sneak screens of what I've managed to squeeze in, as I prepare to work on the new 1.5 textures. In gathering ideas and pics together, it makes it necessary to bring some other textures in line with my current thinking. 1.5 is a great spur to work on old things, or add to a 'to do' list, changes that will fit the new textures better. Anyways, just the first new ghast texture of a few variations (if time permits) based on images of deep sea diving bells. This hovers and is propelled by unknown technology, created by the 'Great Engineers' and is still used by persons unknown to move safely around the Nether (possibly insane human survivors from long ago...like the Witch 'Professor') . At some future date I may animate it in some way, probably by adding a pilot of some kind peeking out through a porthole:
...and my first attempts to change the nether fence to cast iron. This is just the oak plank texture devoid of colour and darkened to prove to myself it's possible with the new snapshot version and MC Patcher. The finished version will look, as far as is possible, more like mottled cast iron...I'm still undecided on whether to make the Nether brick more like iron:
While things are still fluid, now's your chance to let me know what you think about the above and the new 1.5 textures and what you might like to see done with the new 1.5 textures. If I don't respond, it doesn't mean I'm ignoring your thoughts on the matter, it'll just mean I'm trying my best to work on things and survive in RL.
so with the terrain.png being exploded out to individual files, does that mean that fences have their own texture, or are they still dependent on their source material?

here are a few of my ships i built last year. only zeppelin mod and better than wolves.
Here are pictures of my older ships. all the cannons you see except my TNT cannon are just dispensers attached to the end of the turrets, all of the turrets can rotate by activating the airship controllers from Blackmajik's Zeppelin mod. all my ships are attached to my central mooring mast. got the idea out of a book. Kenneth Oppel's Airborn.
here one of the dreadnoughts. The other is the exact same. i had a render glitch while flying and wound up with 2 of them. exact copies, even what was in the chests.
boiler room
this is the belly turret. i mean come on, all these pictures of steampunk flying battleships only have turrets on the top. last time i checked air battle was fought in 3-D not 2-D like on the water.
view form the front
and the carrier there is not much living space because i wasn't planning to use it for anything other than just having A FREAKING FLYING AIRCRAFT CARRIER. the reason why it has so many turrets is that if you have a flying carrier it needs to be able to hold its own in a fight with other ships and fighters if it were ever to be separated from the fleet.
all the planes on the deck
here is the bomber on the back. it can drop TNT, but only if aligned to the world-grid. otherwise the TNT align themselves when activated and end up staying on the plane.
now inside the carrier.
this is behind one side of the carrier where all the AA turrets can be fired.
one of the turrets
on the deck looking at the planes. each one has a controller block and can fly on it's own.
the deck as seen from the tower
these took me untold hours of work. i was beside myself when my computer crashed and i thought that i lost them.
probably could convert that world and build a port....
No, still dependent on their source texture, ie there isn't a separate fence texture. I'm just using ctm to replace the fence part of the nether brick texture.
