Yesterday the free time gods were not kind to me, thankfully today seems to be fairing better. I've exploded your alt texture sheets into tiles. Glimmars_alt_tiles.zip They are numbered starting at the top left of the first sheet and going across then down through all the sheets. The gaps in the numbering are where I removed the nameplates. (Didn't think you really needed a bunch of tiles with G's on them and such )
As far as what curse premium gets you, faster downloads from their site, some extra features in the Curse Client (like being able to update all the mods/packs at once) and no more adds on their websites (my favorite feature).
There are definitely some things that could be done in terms of combining the files into a sheet for viewing and color adjustments and I do have some plans along those lines for the mixer. I might be able to just do that portion of it as it's own thing rather than making everyone wait for me to solve my animation and multiple image file issues.
Haha, yes, those 'free time' gods must oversee me too! I thought I might have had a good week to start 1.5 changes, but all sorts of things came up, leaving me without any free time in the evening, apart from answering some urgent PMs.
Oh! Many, many thanks for that file, Fool...that's just what I was after, and very generous considering how busy you were. I have it at the ready, but still thinking how best to serve it out...separate or included in the pack?
I'm thinking it won't be necessary to have 64x alts for unpatched Minecraft 1.5, as I believe it will use any size, so I'm assuming M C Patcher will have to conform and similarly with Optifine, which used to have problems displaying animated blocks and items correctly if they weren't all the same resolution. Other things I'll take my time with and re-introduce as I understand how things will need to be changed.
I really look forward to seeing what you eventually come up with for dicing, splicing and viewing terrain and item textures. 1.5 has certainly blown everything apart really, but I'm looking forward to taking advantage of this new system of easily swapping alts, and the little appreciated big extra in making it possible for everyone to continue using their favorite pack after MC updates, even if the pack hasn't been updated (ie. just replacing missing textures with default ones). Mojang have done a huge favor for everyone by that move.
By all means. However...simple rule...don't under any circumstances redistribute my texture pack with your adventure map, that's definitely not allowed. Instead, redirect your map users to download from my thread, then they get to see where Glimmar's Steampunk comes from.
If you need to make changes to some textures to make sense of your adventure, put the link to your edited version of my pack in a post in this thread and direct your map users to download it from here, that way you don't get yourself in trouble with my licence. Oh, and please don't mix my textures with textures from other packs, even if you have permission. Use my alternative textures if necessary for that purpose or make your own original edits. If you're still stuck, you could ask around here and someone might be able to rustle up what you need without stepping on any toes.
Have fun and show it off here and I might be able to use it in my 'Adventure Maps' section in my OP.
...and welcome to the forums.

Glimmar, what are your plans for the quartz blocks? Are you going to keep them marble-ish as in vanilla, just Glimmar-ized? I ask, because I've been playing with the snapshots and the exploded pack that TheFool76 was kind enough to make out the old terrain.png. I've begun building with the quartz as marble, but just wanted to check before I committed too deeply only to find you had other plans!

Oh, I am such a slow coach at the moment. Actually, it's not my fault...work and family have demanded a lot. So I just haven't had the time to even look at the default textures in game, nor see what the quartz is. Also, I'm not sure how the quartz, as marble, will fit with the marble pillar and marble frieze blocks I did in the last update. So I really am open to all explanations and ideas.
Because I tend to ***** foot and prevaricate around new projects before launching in, I'm even working on my own version of the ghast tonight as some kind of warming up exercise. Yep! I'm totally ridiculous! I know I should be working on all the new stuff...and I will! I just fancied a slightly more weathered and riveted ghast!! So please don't give me a heart attack by telling me Mojang have just announced a release date for tomorrow!!
Seriously though, I really would be grateful for any clear explanation of the new blocks in particular and how they might relate to what I've already done. As you can probably tell, I'm finding it difficult to focus at the mo'...quite literally...due to lack of sleep!
Well, as it is now, there is quartz ore, block of quartz, quartz slabs and stairs, chiseled quartz, and quartz pillars. Mojang has it as a brightwhite/light gray texture that could be seen as white marble or limestone perhaps. If not for the work you and others have already put into building with your marble pillar and frieze blocks, I think the quartz is the vanilla way of doing those things. It would make sense just from an in-game perspective to move the ctm art from the stone to the quartz. But of course, the favor you would be doing me, makes work in game for everyone who has already designed with the pillars and friezes swapping stone for quartz. That may not be as bad in creative as it is in survival, but still work.
[edit] And keep in mind I've only got one small section of stairs and 4 small pillars that I would replace if you decide to go in a different direction, so you don't need to feel like you need to please me or anything. I was just curious about what your plans were, not trying to give you a head ache.
Or perhaps you just make a variant of your existing pillars and friezes in a different color. There is are no important reasons that I can think of to make your flavor of quartz white like mojang's. A quick wikipedia search shows quartz comes in just about every color of the rainbow.
One other thing about the quartz pillar is that it can be placed like logs, i.e. on its side. so you'll like to think about the top/bottom faces of that block and how it can be used decoratively.
From what I've heard (I haven't had the chance to test out the snapshots), quartz is found as an ore in the nether, can be crafted into blocks similar to diamond/iron/emerald/lapis, the blocks appear similar to marble or limestone, and the blocks can be further crafted into pillars. I believe your marble pillar texture would work quite well for this, so that's a bit less work for you in the long run.
EDIT: Ninjad, and with a much more in depth answer
Glimmar, I have kept meaning to drop by, too focused on my own pack (thanks for the AMAZING comments by the way) and family, work commitments.
Anyways finally I've downloaded and had a good play of Steam Punk. Wow, just felt drawn in by the environment and the creativity you put into the creation of many of the blocks, UI player/items/mobs....... i could go on
Just wonderful work, and I'm totally blown away by the amount of alternatives you have created my god its insane!!! How long have you spent on this pack!?
Just keep doing what your doing Mr...... hats off to you!

Lol! There's too many ninjas around tonight!
Many thanks, juliusand1 and ksheep! It'll all sink into my noggin eventually!
Has the half stone slab, that I've changed into my version of marble, been removed then? I hope not. I'm sure I read something in the wiki that it had...or something I confused with the half slab.
That's a good idea regarding a different colored quartz. I shall look into that possibility...though it's frustrating that I keep going up blind alleys with my projects, which makes my pack a difficult one to adjust to, especially if one wishes to come from another pack and use an existing build.
Mmm? So the quartz comes from the nether, eh? I didn't realize it had so many different forms...so a little like sandstone then in that respect?
I wonder how people would feel if I did use the half stone slab texture for quartz. I can see this becoming quite a task, but if I used my recent slab pillar texture for quartz, I'd probably have to return the half slab to stone. Perhaps I can darken my half slab 'marble' pillar slightly (which might blend better with the stone pillars and not break current builds) and have a brighter, whiter version for the quartz. Woah! Too many marble options to contemplate now! Perhaps I've got to stop my fixation on pillars! Whatever coloured marble I choose it's ore is going to have to look ok in the nether.
I need to set to and have a look at these vanilla 1.5 textures in game.
Please keep any info or possible ideas coming...they really do help me focus.

Very kind words, mate. No worries re: not visiting. Same as you, family comes first (though my wife might see it differently when I get a clip round the ear from her in the early hours of the morning!).
My pack doesn't compare with the quality of yours and what yours will ultimately become, but I enjoy and have enjoyed all the challenges and ideas that my theme has presented me with along the way...as much as I gripe about it, it's kept my interest in Minecraft and building my steampunk city. Lots of good folk here know how good I am at complaining though!
I've just been looking at your vids too! Brilliant!
Anyways, glad you could stop by, and I will of course keep popping in to your thread...I really look forward to seeing how you tackle each part of Minecraft, it's very refreshing, especially as I'm so old and jaded.
so another texture that is new is the bock of redstone. Mojang has made it just that, a red block. But somehow I figure you could make it more steamy like some kind of redstone node with brass fittings and tubing. It sends out a redstone signal, so if there was a way to make it look like it connected to your redstone wire/pipe that would look pretty cool. There is a new piece of rail, that signals to a cart to release it's contents. That would probably be some kind of variant on your powered rail.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, settle down there juliusand1, let the nice man take it easy...
It is not the half slab that was removed, it was something called a smooth full half-slab. And it is back in any case. Here is the wiki entry on it with an image.
The stone half slab hasn't been removed, but the version of the stone double slab that uses the top texture for each side is back, along with a sandstone version, though it's nothing to worry about since they're just as hard to get as your stone heads. I would assume that's what you're getting mixed up with it. I'd throw in a vote for never being able to have too much pillar variety, but I'm not much of a creative builder, so it'd be affecting other people a lot more than me.
As mentioned regarding the redstone block, it really is just a motor waiting for a texture. Great use if you had some old ideas you would have liked added as an engine, but didnt have room for it.
Is anyone currently whacking away at Thermal Expansion or Thaumcraft? if you are working on the thermal ducts, you should be able to recycle the old vis conduits I once created for Thaumcraft.
So, I've downloaded The beta MCPatcher for the 1.5 snapshots, and tried running kahr's convert texture pack utility on GSP v10. But it hangs at 41-42%. Ç'est la vie...

Ah! Many thanks!
So nothing for me to worry about with regard to what I've done for the half slab. Phew!
However, it is a warning that we tread on thin ice for the future as Mojang change things. So everyone be careful with how you use my extra blocks in your builds!

Something like a Tesla Coil would look good as a Redstone Block.
Those are all really good ideas, so if given the time I will try the impossible and meld them all together and come up with something that looks like it should be a source of power. Brass pipes...yes. Also to look like it connects into the redstone pipes...yes. I like both the Tesla Coil and the engine idea too. I also want it to be symmetrical for connecting in any direction...like the controller block, just in case Mojang have inadvertently made it only face in one direction. It will also eventually be animated, but that's not a priority for update with so much else to work on. I might also go in the direction of ctm with it. ItsHunter is very close to touching on the fact that I do have some old ideas I could put to use, engine and pipe-wise, using ctm (possibly a bit impossibly complicated actually!), but it could work very well.
The nether quartz crystal and all it's spin-off blocks present some unique problems for me, as although it would make another excellent pillar and decoration block, I have to take into account it's going to be found in my copper/rusted iron panels in the nether, if I understand things correctly. So I have to pursue it in that direction. I do have some ideas in mind that definitely do not follow the 'white marble' path that others seem to be taking. However, you guys are very good at brainstorming too, so now's the opportunity to get any ideas in. I'm thinking along the lines of the pipes Duffman was asking for, which would mean the nether quartz crystal has to connect somehow with that idea and the copper panels...perhaps...secret idea, secret idea, secret idea, etc. ["it might work, captain!" Don't go getting the wrong idea...It's nothing to do with dilithium crystals...even though I like Star Trek] kind of idea
I'm just not sure how the block of quartz 'step' would figure if made up from a pipe texture? Any thoughts? Perhaps I should stick with it being a marble-ish building material.
So, I've downloaded The beta MCPatcher for the 1.5 snapshots, and tried running kahr's convert texture pack utility on GSP v10. But it hangs at 41-42%. Ç'est la vie...
I must have been very lucky then!
I've got a working copy of my 64x pack now with all the vanilla 1.5 blocks and items up-scaled and in place. I want to upload it as soon as possible, so that everyone who wants to, can help me with ideas and reminders...and as insurance if the update is sprung on us unawares, so that folk can still carry on if I'm nowhere near ready. My problem is I'm mad busy with RL at the moment and the foreseeable future. I'm on my tablet at the mo' and that's about all I've had access to all weekend, so can't let you have this working copy just yet! Sorry.
Just as a quick note, Glimmar; although I can confirm that your texture pack DOES work with Optifine, I do not recommend Optifine personally, since there are a couple of modifications which I use, (RailCraft and Iron Chests) which apparently have problems with it. It is a shame, because Optifine does have a number of options which can fix graphical issues; but c'est la vis.
