Is there any way I can find out what everything normally is? I see alot of blocks I like in the screep caps but I tried spawning some blocks and I just cant find everything im looking for :|
As a result of your actions I too have joined the ranks of texturepack crafters, and though my work is in very early days at the moment, I hope to have one day achived something close to your awesominity (Don't worry, it won't be Steampunk).
Keep up the Steampunk spirit!
Thank you! :smile.gif:
Makes me feel even better if I've spurred someone else on to contribute to the awesomeness that is Minecraft! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with, Valdrec!
If you've any steamycraft spinoffs you don't mind sharing, just post 'em here if you want! :tongue.gif: At the moment, if I can claw back some time from RL, I'm getting to grips with the pumpkinblur texture for the inside of the pumpkin diving helm.
All the best! :biggrin.gif:

Glad you like! :smile.gif:
Now that's a really good idea. A lot of my textures, particularly the steampunk, gadgety ones and the Nether blocks aren't very obvious and it would be nice to do a little comparison legend underneath the terrain.png file at the top of this thread. As soon as I can I'll get on to that.
A match is one way of doing it but personally, in my humble opinion, a blowtorch would fit the theme like a glove, something like a Whirring Bronze Gizmo affixed with with a Bronze Tube and an Unstable trigger topped off with a Golden Power Core. (Something more Goblin than Gnome in design )
If the Gui Icons are going to be 32x32 there is alot of room for amazing things.
Just a thought and keep up the good work, I love this pack.

Hey, Just an idea for the flint and steel, maybe a match? (keeping the thread on the front page[Hopefully])

Both ideas have their merit. I do lean towards the idea of having something more gadgety and arcane looking for this theme. Whatever, I choose to do in the end I'm always grateful for all the ideas you post, however outlandish, it gets my brain mechanisms whirring! :smile.gif:

In case your wondering Notch or someone els installed a kinda Bugtracker/Ideatracker and I posted there this 'to get rugs or make more use out of paintings/pictures please support this idea' :
please like or post your ideas and so forth, supporting this idea would help u and us ^^
if not correctly linked search for keyword: rugs
Thnx for your concern
I much appreciate you doing this, Tiger4Ruler.
Please folks, if you do have a moment to support this idea it would really help me and others to produce a wider range of useful textures for use on floors and ceilings, instead of just vertically placed paintings. making it possible to choose which painting we want to place, would help too, instead of the lucky dip style of placement.
I've always considered the beauty of Minecraft to lie in it's infinite possibilities. A little thing for a modder or Notch to do, would add a vast potential to the game by way of decoration...and in the case of Steampunk, all sorts of mechanical and architectural trompe l'oeil to enrich the environment. You know that's what the sheep want you to do! :biggrin.gif:
I couldn't get the water and lava textures to work with the Patcher. It made them look normal.

Make sure the Patcher is pointing to MY texture pack in the patcher launch window (see 1st page instructions)otherwise you won't get the custom water and lava...and these two glitches were specifically fixed in the 1.9_02 version.
How would I get it to point? Direct it to the folder with your texture pack in it?

Yep! Third line down in the MC Patcher launcher...without looking at it right now... where it shows the size of the texture pack 16x16, 32x32, etc. So if you've correctly browsed to my texture pack in the Minecraft Texture pack folder and double clicked it, it should return to the Patcher window and 32x32 texture size should automatically be selected. you'll know then that the patcher has worked on the texture pack and not the default 'minecraft.jar' file.
It's late here in the UK, so I hope my explanation makes sense. I'll look out for any posts from you tomorrow! Good luck until then. :smile.gif:
Ok Glimmar, I made this for you. I'm not sure if it's arcane or steampunky enough but it's the best I could do (my imagination isn't as good at coming up with machines as I would like it to be).
It's here for anyone to use if they like, if anyone hates it please let me know so I can go and hide in shame and obscurity until the end of time...Or just until I do a re-edit.
Viola!
Take care, have fun, and I hope this will do until you can come up with your own sure-to-be-amazing firestarter,
Heftig
Many thanks you guys. :smile.gif: Makes it worth the effort and spurs me on to do better! :biggrin.gif: and yes, Ambient Occlusion is pure awesomeness! For me it's the way the shadows give such variety to the textures, especially those textures that by necessity repeat all over the landscape. It's like Minecraft suddenly becomes alive! :biggrin.gif:

That is one very cool (hot?) firestarter! A perfectly rendered Victorian blowtorch too! Haha, I love it and doubt very much I'll be able to improve on that. Many, many thanks, mate, that's going straight to the top! It's like Christmas here already now. Mind you Minecraft is full of little surprises all the time, but this is very generous of you. I'll have to return the favour sometime (Egyptology has always fascinated me), so I'll post you a little trinket or two when I get time.
Off to play with the blowtorch now! Aaaargh! BANG! (my mum always told me not to play with fire and lava!)
Thank you, I'm a little embarrassed, partly at your praise, but also partly because I uploaded the blowtorch image backwards...it points at the player as opposed to pointing away from him...(I suppose thats what I get for following Goblin Engineering dogma). Please accept my apologies and my appreciation for your compliments.
Here is the repaired image:
Glad you liked it so much,
Heftig
PS: Ok the Texture Pack Making bar has been raised! I better see some amazing painting props from you as well! Or else! Hehe just kidding, I mean it would be great if more people did this but I wouldn't consider it 'bar raising' material. Take care and have fun.
Quick question, are you ever planning on creating a full item set for this? New mobs maybe? I'm really loving this so far, and hope that I can help out in any way that I can.
Well currently I'm writing about pretty much everything I do as I do it, and a couple of people using it have got into texture editing (my bro even got into editing the UI and things like that)
Currently I've hit a dead end on making transparent pixels on blocks, like the blue used on an ice block, becuase stain glass would be something incredible if I could get it to work.
It's not really a theme texture pack yet, as I'm getting to grips with how it all works. I'll be doing a themed texture pack or two afterwards however.
I'm good at creating granite elephant knees it seems.
I'm a fan of the look of your Log blocks, and I tried to get something a little bit similar to that, but it's a long shot still :tongue.gif:
The little I understand about the Pumpkin blur leads me to understand that you just replace/edit the image like you would replacing any other block/image.
Also of interest to you might be the editing of the biome regulator.
It's essentially just a green triangle, but a little liberal editing and you could create red skies and purple grass, variant on the Biome, it's definately worth checking out what you can do by editing some of the files.
I think those elephant knees textures are cool! :smile.gif: Your doing a good job there, Valdrec, and you're bearing your soul for all to see your mistakes as well as your success...brave indeed!
Stained glass would be awesome. I'm sure there was a mod recently that gave some limited staining properties to the glass block, but I haven't seen it for a while. I would love for there to be the ability to stain your own glass, using dyes within the game through the much talked about 'alchemy' crafting bench.
As well as the pumpkinblur.png file I've been working on all week, I am currently working on a set of biome triangles too. I'm having fun working on these, as they feel like little abstract works of art, while trying to keep in mind they are actually going to be effecting the landscape in quite a radical way. It's not possible to effect the colouring of the sky through the biome triangles though. :sad.gif:
With the lack of any real internal views of a good old fashioned diving helm, I've resorted to actually building a little model and photographing it close up with appropriate light shining in. Helps me to sort out correct lighting and shadows, etc. far less frustrating than wasting hours (like I have) trawling through Google images!
I look forward to seeing more of your work. :smile.gif:

Haha! So that's why I keep burning my fingers! Lol! :biggrin.gif: It's a great little item and I'm very happy to include it at the top of the thread...especially now it's safe to use!
Yeh! I've been talking about paintings for more practical uses in my theme pack for weeks now and still not got round to uploading anything. So it better be good when I do! I'm bound to disappoint though! :sad.gif:
This forum is a veritable hot-house of ideas! :smile.gif:
Quick question, are you ever planning on creating a full item set for this? New mobs maybe? I'm really loving this so far, and hope that I can help out in any way that I can.
Certainly am, and I apologise to everyone that I can't work faster on this...RL is great and all, but it gets in the way of Minecraft! :biggrin.gif:
Seriously though, yes I will be slowly working through everything, but love it that others are willing to contribute. I will gladly put stuff made by others on the subject of Steampunk, steamcraft and general Victorian future tech., up at the top of the thread for everyone to use. I would still like to keep my efforts distinct, if you'll allow me that consistency, but as I am so slow, I am very grateful for other contributions. It's Minecraft and it's gadgety possibilities that's important to me, not my ego. I also like to sally forth into the Minecraft 'beyond' and explore and build and build and...it's how I get my ideas! :smile.gif:
So, if you have any nice items (little gadgets or gizmos) or other textures that might compliment the theme, post 'em here!
Many thanks for your compliments, Tlos, and I look forward to seeing anything of interest.

Curse PremiumSorry you're having difficulty with the water and lava! :sad.gif:
Carefully following my instructions at the top of the thread (page 1), and with xau's latest version of his MC patcher, you should have my custom water and lava running fine. Here are the links for the latest version of xau's MC patcher:
WINDOWS: http://github.com/downloads/pclewis/mcp ... 1.9_02.exe
MAC: http://github.com/downloads/pclewis/mcp ... 1.9_02.dmg
EVERYBODY ELSE: http://github.com/downloads/pclewis/mcp ... 1.9_02.jar
Make sure the Patcher is pointing to MY texture pack in the patcher launch window (see 1st page instructions)otherwise you won't get the custom water and lava...and these two glitches were specifically fixed in the 1.9_02 version.
Hope you get it fixed with that. :smile.gif:
