Hey, Any ideas on what you want to do with the wolves ^.^?
Given the time, I want to pursue the idea of real wolves, that when tamed get random steampunk paraphernalia attached to them. Allows for realism in the landscape (which I do like) and more of a likable companion as a pet, but something still in keeping with the theme and plenty of gadget variation with randommobs.
It's just that little matter of time, which I'm so lacking in at the moment. I'm also not good at prioritizing my time, etc. I'm kind of drifting, recuperating and trying out different things at the mo'.
Just want to say two things real quick: Unfortunately, due to various complications, I have found that I can no longer run Tekkit/Technic on my computer (sad day). However, there is a new mod pack called Feed the Beast that actually appears to be more up-to-date than Tekkit, and has full support of the modding community… and it DOES work. So now I'm seeing how all the textures that were optimized for the 1.2.5 version of the mods are, well, not up to snuff, with the 1.4 versions. On the plus side, I get to use most of the new stuff that you've added in for vanilla.
Second, for the wolves and their misc. Steampunk gear, have you though about adding a Kurt (Far Lands or Bust videos) shout-out? While he usually sticks with vanilla MC, he does have a few textures he's modified: namely the bed (which says FLoB) and his wolf (which has red-blue 3D glasses). Maybe make a pair of red-blue steampunk goggles for the dog to wear as a possibility.
Hello Glimmar, I wanted to thank you for this. I've used a lot of Texture packs, and this is by FAR my favorite. This is one of the few texture packs that is themed, but not restricted by that theme. It's artistic accuracy to idea of steampunk is amazing.
When I'm using it, it makes everything darker. Most texture packs attempt to brighten the screen at all times. This one manages to be dark at the right times. I feel as if I exist withing smog, a dirty, industrialized environment.
This is noting less then a work of art. Thank you.
Anyway, I'm loving what you did in the pics above, but sorry for all those sheep that have to suffer in your survival world...especially with all that snow around! You also need to have someone clear that snow off the gangway to the doors in the side of the gondola...some rich paying passenger could have a nasty accident there!
You know I've still yet to build something worthy of the name 'airship'. You'd think after nearly three years I'd have at least one dirigible hovering over my city!
My main sheepfold is quite some distance from my city - I built a small house/kiln there to take advantage of the sheep and clay that was local. I have about twenty sheep there. And since time does not pass if none is in the area there is no trucking between folds. So, I have to wait until the sheep eat, then there wool comes back in.
Fortunately light grey is fairly common among sheep, I think that I still get most of my wool from 'wild' sheep The sheep just don't grow wool fast enough. Those six blocks I had been saving up for a while, but I had not been gathering enough.

You could always lure the sheep closer to your main base with wheat. Might speed up the process a bit.

I love the name of "Feed The Beast"! I'm going to make an appointment with any vids for that over lunch, and still the Yogscast vids of Technic, because those guys really do help enthuse and explain stuff very well.
Not sure what you mean about 'Far Lands or Bust' and Kurt, but I'll give 'em a google. Not sure I'm ready to tackle the wolves just yet...still experimenting with a ctm half block and Greek marble columns and freezes. The hippy wolves sound kind of fun, but I'm going to try to stear clear of goggles if I can...which might be difficult as they are so synonymous with Steampunk.
[edit] Did my research on Kurt. What a great guy and a very worthy cause too and a cool idea. My own youngest has severe disabilities and so we spend a lot of time on hospital visits. I had thought about putting up a link to an appropriate charity in my OP, for anyone wishing to donate anything to my pack, but perhaps I could start by linking to Kurt's cause first...I'll see what I can do.

You are very kind, guyapollo. It makes it worth the effort with positive feedback like that...especially when one gets a little nervous about how well one is progressing...and my progress is painfully slow at the moment...well, all the time really. Thanks again, mate.
So, I prep a bunch of dye, sneak up on sheep and dye them, so I have a lot of light gray sheep.
Paintball! (don't know what you call it in the US?). Definitely worried about you and those sheep!
****************************************
I don't know whether this period of recuperation is good for me...I'm seeing all sorts of incredibly cool things to distract me. In my first year of Minecraft I spent many an hour in the various mod sections and then pressure of maintaining my pack kind of put paid to those forays. Now I can't believe what amazing things exist out there.
I've just been trying to pick my jaw up off the ground looking at 'WorldPainter'. How am I ever going to get anything new made now...phew!
Still messing around with MAtmos, but in the meantime I had an idea for ambient sounds while trying to construct a storage cart room. Had a ton of storage carts and they emitted steady hum that could be used as ambient sound for machinery. It does tend to bug out the sound system if you have too many; the glass breaking sound, for example, would cut off quickly.

It's paintball here too.
Dyeing the sheep is better than just dyeing the wool - the color stays with them - so if you dye a sheep blue (on the woad again, just can't wait to put on the woad again) then you will always get blue wool from that sheep.
Until they did that the most efficient way to get wool was, well... kind of nasty. Feed the sheep, breed the sheep, shear the sheep, then kill the sheep - the baby sheep will likely grow up faster than the older sheep regrowing their wool.... Kind of a shame that this game does not have mutton.
Up to twenty wool. Gonna take me a while at this rate. Tearing down a desert and placing dirt... my back forty is starting to look like New Zealand.
NICE but steampunk is not my cup of tea do you happen to have another texture pack or working on one
Unfortunately, he does not. Glimmar has been putting whatever free time he has into this pack, and he's having trouble as it is keeping it up to date, due to the constant influx of new items and features, both from Mojang and MCPatcher.
So, I was messing around on a friend's server, and I noticed something you may have missed. Your trading gui is missing the 'no longer valid' arrow, which can make some apparent trade offers quite misleading.
Been quite naughty in the past 12 hours and signed up for 'Planetside2' with my sons. Pretty awesome (to say the least!). Then I thought I better use a little of my time to check the posts.

Was that steady hum from the carts with or without MAtmos? I still find cart noises a bit buggy, but that was in 1.4.4 and I've just updated to 1.4.5 so it might be different.

Your account of things made me chuckle. "On the woad again." Haha!

You can still use the pack to create something not so overtly Steampunk.
Also you may be interested in a few extra textures I've been working on which lean strongly towards the classical - Marble columns, walls, marble friezes with random figures, etc. I'm particularly pleased with the freezes as they work way better than I was anticipating. The marble columns also mesh very well with the stone columns to provide a huge range of possible designs (not tried CTM on the sandstone columns yet...but will do). I will upload some pics soon to give you an idea.
I feel the need for another little movie though, to try to convince everyone why you really must use these new marble and stone textures. Also the reason why I've been busy building a few things.
Had a good idea for a pigmen range of skins too. Means a lot of work though! Then there's those zombies to fix

Thanks, mate. Was this a change in 1.4 or did I just miss something from the beginning? Any chance of a pic or two, in case I can't figure it? Much obliged.
It sounds like it might have been added in 1.4, but I never did much trading with villagers before, so I don't know for sure (took me quite a few failed trades to even figure it out). But yeah, your trading gui has nothing where the crossed out arrow is, which gets put over the arrows to show a trade is no longer offered, even though it will stay in the list.
What makes this most unfortunate is that your arrows aren't in the same place, relative to the items, so making an overlay that looks good in both positions might take more work than it really deserves.

Still takes forever for them to get their wool back, I wish feeding them grain would help them recover wool.
Built a beacon on an iron pyramid - I swear that I have an easier time finding iron....
So, work on the Zeppelin is on hold while I gather wool.
And gather wool.
And gather wool....
I managed to add two full blocks of wool, building takes less time than getting the wool - it lasted me maybe half an hour.
