It's a legit copy of PS. The issue: the disk and product key are about 1000 miles away. Not to mention the fact that I still need to reinstall an OS, and that copy of PS won't work on my Desktop's OS…
Time to join the dark side and try out the GIMP?
I'll mention that they have 'fixed' one of the things that I know has annoyed PS users and that's the dozens of floating windows. In the latest version under the Windows menu is an option to toggle on Single Window Mode which gives you an environment that feels a lot more like PS. They have also added the ability to group layers which is a feature I've wanted ever since I first saw it in PS.
...
The mod I'm talking about is a beast though regarding creative possibilities. It uses 23 different dirt textures, 23 different sand textures, 16 tree types each with its own derivative chain (doors, planks etc - from giant sequoia s to huge jungle kapoks and douglas firs) and 35 different ore types O_o.
...
O.O
Thats... alot of textures. (Dare someone to add an alot creature to MC.) Sadly, this is probably exactly the sort of item explosion that will happen on my own server the moment they finish summoning the mod API from the darker portions of the either.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Oh yeah, Glimmar, I saw in the Silent Hill texture pack that they had sound files that one could place into their music folder to alter the in game music. I was wondering, would it be possible to use any of the sounds that you use in your showcase videos?
I would think that's entirely possible, but I'm not completely clued up on copyright, etc. Even though they are
This is the best place for 'free' sounds, though I'm not entirely sure how free I am to re-distribute them in my pack:
I don't feel too worried about the way I'm using the sounds in videos, because I think I'm doing what they've specified by crediting each artist and linking directly to their posts at freesound and the sounds are kind tied up in the video for posterity. However, including their files in my pack and redistributing them in a way that others could re-use them without credit, kind of makes me feel a bit edgy. I might be worrying unnecessarily, but each file would need to be looked at carefully to see what the conditions of use were. It's an amazing website though!
For my own city I think I'd love to have at least those distant church bell and factory sounds. I still haven't looked into the various mods that allow you to use the sounds effectively. I'm kind of bogged down with marble, stone, pumpkin, zombies and pigmen at the moment, but not being very productive because I keep skiving off to build some big things in my city. I think I'm going through some sort of expansionist phase!

Haha! I always think of Photoshop as the dark side. Well, it's how my mood gets every time I load it up and try and wade through endless options to do something that comes natural to me now in Gimp.
I'm even considering going back to vanilla to try out TerraFirmaCraft, though I might load it up with Wayuki's or XSSheep's new pack. If I load it up with mine, I'll just end up crying because of the impossible situation of wanting to make it compatible with my pack...and then I'll just start blubbering because I'd like to try all the other things like Tekkit and BTW.
Was digging through the sound files and had an idea. The nether portal has an ambient sound that loops as long as you're in range. What if you replaced that sound file with, say, church bells, and placed them throughout a city? Could be underground and out of the way so you don't see the source of the sound.
Edit: Just tried altering the fallbig and fallsmall files to be the classic_damage sound, but whenever I loaded up the game it reverted back to the original files. Not sure if it's possible to alter them without that happening.

Actually that's a pretty good idea indeed, because I'm beginning to dislike the vanilla portal sound with a vengeance! And that's sort of what I hope Minecraft will eventually introduce...a 'sound sample' block that you can attach various sounds to and bury it in your builds to create appropriate moods.
I think there's an old sound mod out there that overrides what Minecraft does to attempted sound changes. There's also 'MATmos' here: http://www.minecraft...here-simulator/ which is very sophisticated. You could try that out. I've never been in a position to try it as I'm always playing catch up with MC updates.

You're correct, it is impossible, unless you have Risugami's Audiomod. It lets you input custom music, and in more file formats.
And speaking of sound mods, I'm thinking of making a sound pack for this texture pack. Actually I was planning this for quite a time and started working on it, but I don't know if I'll manage to overcome my laziness ^^" But I'm kind of new to the steampunk and I ain't sure if I'll be able to give a good feel to it. So suggestions on the sounds and any type of help will be much appreciated
Never heard of that one.
Haha, I'm battling laziness at the moment, well...perhaps not so much laziness as 'burned out-ness', which I always get after an update. It's hard to maintain the same level of work so I'm trying to build my way back into enthusiasm and mixing it with a bit of the work I described above.
Sounds awesome if you manage to put something together. I hope some of the sounds in my vid give a little idea of what might be nice to have in the background.
I would say anything distant and 'metropolis' sounding, but obviously more pre-combustion engine city sounds, so things like the aforementioned civic bells, distant chuffs of steam engines, steam horns, booms, distant clanking and hammering fading in and out, screech of steel chains and Mines of Moria type noises for underground, but watch out for the copyright issue, etc. It's a lot of work and don't I know it, so it will be very much appreciated if you manage to pull it off.
Audiotori is some kind of a soundpack manager. I think it should work with MAtmos as well, since they are both Hurricaane's mods. And yes, I was thinking of making it so it sounds a bit like in your videos The only problem is, I'm not sure if there's a way to separate those sounds from "nature" sounds. I mean, it would be a bit weird, hearing a steam engine deep in the forest. But is such way for MAtmos, I'll definitely go with that.
I was also thinking of changing most of the vanilla sounds to work specifically with your texture pack. Give monsters some robotic noises, add a bit of steamy sound to pistons, something like that. Though I'm afraid that things might not go in the right direction, I'll give it a try
As I mentioned before, I'm kinda new to steampunk. To be honest, I've never been interested in it before ;P But one day I just saw this thread and all the details in this texturepack really amazed me. Downloaded it, tried it out and loved it! And then I started searching for more steampunkish stuff on the internet, been playing steampunk themed RPGs.. So yeah, Glimmar, your texture pack fully got me into steampunk Thank you!
It might interest you to know that I'm not a huge fan of 'all' things steampunk, but I do like the fact that steampunk allows you the best of both worlds of science fiction and fantasy...plus I like old machines, history and art history. Here in the UK we don't really have such things as gaming conventions...not on the same scale as the USA or the Far East, and not that I'm aware of. And anyway, my wife wouldn't let me dress up for such things now! Lol, I suppose I'm more a closet Steampunk and that's why my texture pack isn't overtly all goggles, cogs and pipes.
I will be very interested in anything you come up with, mate. Because of how open-ended the subject is we're probably not all going to agree on what sounds would be most appropriate and of course there are limitations.
I've just been looking at the Technic, Tekkit websites and was interested to see that MATmos was part of the compilation.
Think I'll have to check out those mods. Found some nice sounds on that free audio files site that would work well with my tower.
Let me know how it goes, cos' I'd like to drop in some sounds for myself sometime...especially those bells. I really go for civic style buildings at the moment...hence my interest in pillars, chiseled stone and heads, etc. and the sound of distant bells is incredibly evocative.
Did you change all the wool so that you could still use the stone heads? Because otherwise it wasn't necessary with my last update. I feel really guilty to have messed everyone around so much.
Also with the info The_Fool76 gave me about using the wood block with it's abundance of spare metadata I've been adding a few extra blocks to accommodate the heads and runes and also adding new marble slabs which should work ok as pillars yet still be usable for surface work. The other things I'm adding in as extra metadata will be Greek and Roman style marble carvings for vertical surfaces and possibly random mosaic patterns for flat horizontal surfaces. I needs more classical decoration for my huge civic constructions. I will show some pics as soon as I can.
The new blocks will of course be in the pack, but will only be available for use by using the command line to award yourself infinte blocks in creative or a limited amount in survival. Or of course you could assign them to some other blocks of your choice with a little jiggery pokery of the associated .properties files.
Anyway, I'm loving what you did in the pics above, but sorry for all those sheep that have to suffer in your survival world...especially with all that snow around! You also need to have someone clear that snow off the gangway to the doors in the side of the gondola...some rich paying passenger could have a nasty accident there!
You know I've still yet to build something worthy of the name 'airship'. You'd think after nearly three years I'd have at least one dirigible hovering over my city!
CTM for wool so we have big metal panels instead of structures being made of cubes stacked together.
If it was possible to specify the size of the panels in CTM, I'd probably do it, but if you look at any large retro metal construction or large ocean going ships they're always made up of relatively small riveted panels. Also for things like airships, the material is never just one piece, but made up of many small or stripped and stitched together panels. I think the stitching or rivet texture gives good scale and CTM'ing at present would just make the whole surface the same. I do intend to increase the detail in 64x and add random CTM for wear and tear variation.

You could CTM them so that each column (or row, might look better) is a continuous strip, resulting in 1-meter wide bands of woolen metal. While this may look off on particularly large stretches of wool, the users could easily break it up by having a band of another color running across to the "grain", so to speak.

But to have vertical or horizontal CTM on would mean I wouldn't be able to use random CTM. At least I don't think it's possible to have both. It would be great if it was possible though.

Hmm… you've got a point there. Might be worth investigating though…
Hey guys, I got really tired of seeing the stock textures on some of the mods that aren't supported right now by Glimmar's pack.
So I made them. Gregtech, Railcraft, bunch of IC2 stuff, some Buildcraft junk, LOTS of ore updates, some more that is lost in a file structure somewhere....
Where might be a good place to show 'em? I mean, I don't want to start a thread or anything, just post 'em here and see what happens?

Yeah, post them on here so people can find them. I will try to get them added into the compilation pack and upload a new version of that as soon as I'm done with Senior Seminar.
Oh, and just to clarify, are these textures all Glimmar's or original from you (or modified Glimmar's)? Unfortunately, due to legal issues, redistribution of mix packs is not allowed on the forum, and that applies to mod textures as well. If there is a mix of other artist's work, easiest thing to do is grey them out before uploading, and when I add them to the compilation pack, I'll paste them into either a vanilla sheet or use them to help finish off any sheets we've already got started.
Going to try messing around with MAtmos. It says that it picks ambient sounds based on blocks in the immediate area (chirping birds when you're around trees, for example), so I want to see if I can set it to play the sound of a boiler room when I'm near a combination of iron blocks, lava, water, and paintings. Will post an update later.
And I'll make sure to post my questions in the proper thread this time.

Fantastic, I'll get on that later this evening (the wife doesn't allow Minecraftin' during dinner hours )
The textures used were all from your (read: Glimmar's) texturepack, Alt folders, and hand drawn. Simply resized and copy/pasted/edited/airbrushed/homogenized to cover most of what was missing. Seeing as how I have no real "flow" to my work, I am left with a TON of random stuff that I have made. Therefore, it all really doesn't fit neatly into one mod texture pack, more like it's an addon to the current pack to replace some textures that were left stock/not included at all. If that makes any sense at all.
I'll see if I can't separate it all out nicely when it get's packaged.

Yup! It might be possible to do something where you use CTM's facility to have 8x8 blocks, but I'm not quite as happy with that arrangement as random, because on big builds you still get repetitions and patterns developing. Now if kahr was to make a randomised version of the 8x8 block, there would be plenty of scope, but also a massive amount of work...and you know how slow I am!
i like the new pumpkin and divinghelmet hybrid, but keep that old fancy divinghelmet somewhere so we can download it in the future.(i love the old one)
I'm still intending that the standard pumpkin in the pack will be an upgraded version of my old diving helm as an animated version. If someone wishes to use a more naturalistic pumpkin, without breaking the pumpkinblur side of things then with a simple instruction one would take out the 'anim' .properties file and drop in the 'ctm' .properties file. Textures for both ctm and anim would be there in the appropriate folders, but of course only activated when the appropriate .properties file is chosen. If I can get my head around it (when I've caught up on some regular sleep) then I think this arrangement would work for everyone...hopefully...maybe.
Basically, don't worry, I still prefer the original style, but it could be greatly improved upon at 64x.

That would be very generous of you.
While I was doing my share of the household jobs/chores around the house I had Yogscast Technic vids on in the background (got curious after looking into TerraFirmaCraft), and the range of mods compiled into that pack was just mindblowing. I can well understand why so many of you stay with Technic/Tekkit rather than updating. The amount you would gain by updating with the latest MC update would be peanuts by comparison with what you'd lose having to leave Technic behind.
I really wish i could cover everything in that pack, hence why I'm very grateful to you and everyone, for giving back what you've converted yourselves.

In your own time, mate. College work comes first and I'm immensely grateful for any amount of time you put in to compiling things. Many thanks, ksheep.

I'm looking forward to hearing any feedback here, Duffman. I'm as interested as you to hear how it works out...I just don't have the time to mess with it and work on new stuff.
I've been rather neglecting my family responsibilities of late, so need to catch up in that area a lot.
This is really good! Can't believe I hadn't seen this sooner.
Haha! I'm not very good at utilising all the various means of getting this pack noticed. eg. Planet Minecraft, etc. I don't know how other texture artists manage to keep all these places updated and also make awesome packs.
Anyways, glad you like the pack and thanks for saying...it's much appreciated.

Your wife sounds very sensible. Mine's the same and quite right too...if I wasn't kept in check, I'd probably waste away in front of the monitor and little would get done in RL...I like to think I'm a little more sensible than that, but it's safer that I get prodded occasionally!
Again...very grateful for your input.

I'll see if I can't separate it all out nicely when it get's packaged.

Curse PremiumYup!
Thank you, sir.
