Due to Glimmar's frantic updating, I'm guessing you overlooked my last post. Hope you don't mind me re-posting it. :/
I need your help again Glimmar... Trying to texture some mod blocks using ctm to specify different textures for different sides. If I was texturing a vanilla block I'd have no problem, but I don't know what to name the .properties file in order to overwrite a mod texture.
When I animated the mod items, It needed some different parameters. It had a "from" path, and a "to" path, so I could tell it exactly where in the texture pack I wanted it. But blocks don't have that, or at least, I can't find any mention of it in Kahr's posts. They just have the "source" path.
The difference in constrast between the blocks may be down to the lights I placed around, but I am very much in agreement with what you say, Seiseki. This is where my inexperience as a pixel artist comes in! I find the individual elements like doors, forge, etc. a pleasure (kind of) to struggle with, but getting that relationship between the 'simple' building blocks like cobblestone and granite a real head and eye strain to get right, especially for this theme, and applaud anyone who pulls it off! Those repeating patterns are a curse!! You would not believe how many renditions of cobblestone I've worked through. Early stages yet...
I take your observations seriously and hope you'll look in again and see how things change. Thanks, Seiseki.
ps. at the very worst if I eventually flunk the 'building' blocks I'll just release the individual elements like doors, iron, etc. for the community to use as they see fit, but for now I'll struggle on. Woe is me!
What a pleasure to read such encouraging posts. My compliments to you Glimmar
Just simple redstone dust and repeaters. And thanks for the compliments. I'll have more screenshots as I finish areas, though I am thinking about just starting my own thread in the creative boards so I don't clutter up this one.
Compliments are deserved. Yes, you should open up a thread on those creative boards...not because I don't want to see any pics here...I certainly do of course, but you should get more individual attention there and you'd help spread interest in the pack for those interested in this niche genre.
But keep showing off any interesting build combinations here as it helps me see how things are used and what works well.
Hmm, it started snowing in game, and I got a rather strange graphics problem: 2012-11-10_03.38.45 by YeAuldGrump, on Flickr
I changed Texture Packs - first to Default, then to Misa's. Neither experienced this problem. Went back to Steampunk, and the error was back as well.
Slept, ending the snow, and the problem ended as well....
So something with my install of Minecraft, plus your texture, plus snow has a problem.
Any ideas? Anyone else have this happen?
The Auld Grump
Here's what it should look like of course, Auld Grump:
I've also just made a short movie clip for you to see:
Of course none of the above solves your problem, but at least it shows that it does work for me.
I recall someone else having this problem a few months back and I can't find what the advice was. I remember ksheep mentioning to try something. I would be interested to know if anyone else has the problem, because looking at the .png file for snow I can't see anything unusual about it in the pack. So I have to assume it's something specific to your machine, but why other packs and default should be ok but not mine, only leads me to think that either something has happened to the download or possibly MC Patcher might have done something, or it might be a temporary aberration caused by the present version of Minecraft.
Those ideas don't sound very logical, but it's hard to explain why it might occur on your system and not mine. I only use MC Patcher and play using a windows 7 PC and nVidia card.
Has it happened again since, perhaps on another snow world?
I hope we/you can fix this problem. (sorry... that sounds like a typical automated helpline closing phrase! It's genuine though...honest!)
Due to Glimmar's frantic updating, I'm guessing you overlooked my last post. Hope you don't mind me re-posting it. :/
Sorry, mate. It was quite hectic last week. Not that it's any different now, lol!
Well, I'm certainly no great expert on CTM and generally muddle through by looking at examples in other packs and reading kahrs instructions in MC Patcher, all until the penny drops, but when I go back to edit things I've usually forgotten how I did it pretty quickly!
A better explanation than I could give, and a good reinforcement to MC Patcher's guide, is to be found here:
Everything except Default has been 64X - with no problems except on this one. MC Patcher is the only mod.
Windows 7 64 bit, AMD Radeon card.
Going to download the texture pack again... then I have to wait for snow....
I have not seen what it looks like with rain yet - my area leans towards the fluffy white end of things.
The Auld Grump
Lets hope it's a temporary bug/glitch. It's a difficult one to explain, other than a messed up snow.png, when other hi-rez packs have worked ok.
I have a weird problem myself since Minecraft was updated and that's when I switch to just two other packs (which will remain nameless) and they lag terribly now, whereas they didn't before and they shouldn't do now. One of the packs is lower res with fewer animations than mine and lags atrociously, whereas other packs at 128x are absolutely fine.
I did read that one of the major bugs in Minecraft 1.4.2 is severe reduction in speed, and there are many others. Any of which might have reared their ugly head in this instance.
Are there any organic looking pumpkin textures? Meaning it looks like a pumpkin and not a helmet. I love the texture but I am looking for something else for a small build.

I haven't done an alternative natural pumpkin as yet. I keep meaning to, but other areas of the pack keep beckoning.
If it's just for personal use you could use something appropriate from another pack, but I guess if you were wanting to make a vid or show off publicly, you'd need to let folk know the pumpkin was from another pack.
If I get some time in the next few days, I'll see about making something more natural, but still a little coppery in colour.
Okaaay... re installing the texture pack did not work.
Reinstalling Minecraft and MCPatcher did not work.
Uninstalling and reinstalling JAVAdid. So, now I am more worried, not less, but your texture was not at the root - Java was, but now I have do idea why it only affected your snow and not either the default or Misa's.

Well that is a weird one indeed. Why would Java effect just one pack and not another. Unless java was updated in the background while you were using my pack, perhaps...only guessing though.
You solved something that might very well crop up again for some one else, so many thanks for persisting. Your discovering the source of the problem also makes me somewhat more relieved that I wasn't to blame. I'm never over confident about my testing facility.
I'm pretty sure you can find one in the Extras. Check the OP and the alternative textures. Or you could as well use one from a different texture pack, since you'll need to copypaste the texture itself anyway
I don't ever remember doing one myself, PsiQss. I kept putting it off and putting it off, waiting for inspiration to pop into my head that would allow me to make something that was both reasonably natural and reasonably helmet like. I might have forgotten that someone else might have made an alternative pumpkin texture, which I've included in the alts, but I'm pretty sure I didn't make one.
My pumpkinblur HUD doesn't make the solution any the easier, as it's so closely tied to the present pumpkin Diving helm/lamp texture. It's a tricky one, indeed. I've not really considered if CTM might help, but after a moments thought, I'm not so sure it would.
I cannot think of a single reason why it would affect you and not Misa - they should be handled in identical fashions.
The sky looks different as well, so I am wondering if maybe it was in combination with some other graphics setting? Again - that does not make much sense....

Yes, if it was down to a graphic setting or your graphics card, you'd think it would have a global effect. Perhaps it was just a glitch with Minecraft and re-installing Java kicked it back into line, but the only thing that would limit the gremlin to my pack is that the glitch occurred whilst you were using my pack.
The trouble with having to mess around with things to put them right, is that it makes you more conscious of other differences in the world(or at least makes you more suspicious) and somehow everything doesn't quite look the same as before the event occurred.
I once came close to giving up back in a beta version update of Minecraft when they changed the lighting system and nothing looked the same as before. I even upgraded my graphics card drivers to try and compensate, suspecting that something had gone wrong there, further upsetting that delicate balance of what you get used to. The problem being that we spend so much time in that virtual MC world, we become aware of even minuscule changes, as if reality itself has been distorted.
Lol, it doesn't bode well for when future generations commit themselves to long term living in virtual environments. Should some glitch occur, as it inevitably will, the psychological consequences will be catastrophic for all those cyber-inhabitants.
Are there any organic looking pumpkin textures? Meaning it looks like a pumpkin and not a helmet. I love the texture but I am looking for something else for a small build.
Here's a couple of natural coppery pumpkins I rustled up tonight...both are 64x textures. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll release an alternative terrain.png here and keep one in the alternative textures folder for the next pack update:
A natural coppery pumpkin with no face until lit.
This one's a natural coppery pumpkin, but with a brass framed window hatch.
They might look better more brass-like than copper and perhaps the addition of some external pipes and rivets might give a pleasing effect on the one with the window hatch.
Let me know if you think with a little tweaking they might be useful. I'm still intending upgrading my lantern helm pumpkin design to 64x, which should allow me to improve on certain aspects of it.
Very nice, and much quicker than I expected. I'm personally partial to the first one, but I can see the appeal of the other. The only improvement that immediately jumps to mind would be possibly having a face on the unlit version of the first one, since you can wear it.

Thanks, Demi-Person. They were just a rough first draft and there are problems with the way the top and bottom mesh with the sides.
Yes, because of the HUD it would look strange without a face, but it's also never going to fit with my diving helm pumpkinblur HUD and I definitely don't want to lose that...it's a real quandary.
I thought of a possible way of using the vertical CTM option to make it more versatile, as a pumpkin when singly placed, but when stacked it might make an alternative baroque pillar or bunch of pipes...as I type I'm also seeing some problems with that idea, but it's definitely worth pursuing.
In fact I think CTM is probably the answer to everyone's concept of what the pumpkin should be in this pack, as it allows me to have what I want, and have a range (a bit ambitious there with limited time! ) of natural pumpkins as .png sheets with .properties files, as alts for dropping into the main pack...or vice versa.
I think i'll do mod support for tech mods, like IndustriaclCraft and Red Power 2.
That would be great!
Don't forget to check out the 'Mod Support Section' for conditions (in my OP on the first page) and liaise with ksheep at some point so that your contribution can be included in the Mod Support Pack.
Yeah, any face on that one would basically require an alt pumpkinblur as well, wouldn't it? Quandarys abound.
Oh well, can't wait to get my hands on them regardless.
Just noticed that the link you have to the Texture Mix Machine is to an old thread (version IV). There's a link forwarding you to the new thread there but just thought you might want to change it here as well.

New natural design coming soon...had a little time this morning to come up with something. Still the problem of CTM and a more retrotechy version to grind out.

Yeh, I noticed it was out of date when The_Fool76 posted a link to the new version he's working on. I set too and changed it in my offline copy of my OP, along with a lot of other changes (clearing out a lot of old pics and stuff) ready for my v.10 update...coming soon, but not being quite ready to launch, it's also delayed the changes.
