That's an interesting program. I made a blurry 16x16 texture file for it, based on yours, if anyone wants to use it. I don't know if the program can use larger versions.
Nethellus, many thanks indeed! :biggrin.gif:
That's a nice little pressy! I'll try and give it a spin tonight. Have you tried it out with your textures yet?
Incidentally, I'd designed a lot more of my Nautilus sub last night using it, but when I came to save the program crashed and I lost all my work except the pics I'd already saved earlier. I think I was just unlucky and had been opening and closing progs all night with it in the background. Clever little simple tool, but for quickly trying out an idea, or even showing others online, it's ideal!
I don't care which it is, you need a bronze robot.
I agree! :smile.gif:

I have not tried it with my own pack yet, but I surely will. I have been playing more than modding now for a while, mostly with your texture pack, and it truly is one of the best I've seen. =)
Many thanks indeed! It still needs a lot of work and some textures really need editing badly. I'm looking forward to trying out your pack, when I've caught up a bit with this one.
I put an upgraded offering of the little texture pack you made for me at the top of the thread for others who might be interested in using it. It worked really well. The program is no good for the little free-standing textures like mushrooms, torches, etc., but for working out difficult little concepts, using the main building blocks, it worked really well!

The more I play the more uses I find for the nether plate and the epic pumpkin replacement. I know it's nothing spectacular but I think this shows off some elements of your pack nicely :biggrin.gif:
Thanks again amigo, I hope Notch doesn't break anything in the update tonight. I feel so spoiled with your texture pack lol
Many thanks for posting the pic. Now that's a nice cosy dwelling! I bet it's hiding vast catacombs in the cellar! :smile.gif: I hadn't noticed before how the base of the pumpkin diving helmet/lantern seems to fit really well on to the fence post - as if there's a metal socket for the post to fit into. Like you I'm discovering new things i can do with the Nether plate every day...just frustrated i don't have the time to do much, if any building! :sad.gif:
I haven't had time to see what Notch has done today. I expect it's going to be necessary to re-install the texture pack and run xua's 'MC Patcher' again. I just hope it's not broken my favourite mod, 'ambient occlusion'.
I showed you the nice little block editing program 'Cube Kingdom' the other day, well here is a little Glimmar's Steampunk texture pack for it. Just makes using it a little more in-keeping with the steampunk theme:
copy and paste this to your desktop, convert to a '.bmp' file and load into Cube Kingdom to use some of my texture pack in your designs. Thanks to Nethelus for showing me how. :smile.gif: For a higher resolution version of this file already in '.bmp' format download here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/f6g6zjmy4zgnf5k/Glimmar%27s%20Steampunk%20Cube%20Kingdom%20texturepack.zip

'Nautilus' hull, centre section, front view, by Glimmar.
That's all I can say about this pack, as not only did it inspire me to register here, but it also inspired me to start on my own themed pack.
The only small niggle I have with this pack is that there isn't anything that I know of that looks like roof slate, which is a bit awkward considering that it's meant to be a Victorian-style pack.
Thank you! :smile.gif:
I agree about the lack of grey slate! :sad.gif: It might be worth me doing a darker alternative texture for the half-block for those of us who want a more traditional look. It could also still pass as being slightly metallic looking too. Slate can often have that metallic look, particularly when wet. What do you all think? Oh, I'll do the darker half block anyway! :smile.gif:
On another subject entirely...can anyone point me to a pic of the inside of an old Diving Helm. I started on the diving helm pumpkinblur.png pic today and after hours wasted trawling the internet I didn't find one single image showing the interior from the perspective of a diver! I've plenty of ideas, but I want to get the light levels, and curvature of the inside as believable as possible! I can use my imagination if nothing turns up, but it's nice to start with some reference.
I really like this pack, it really does bring out the steampunk feel which is awesome. :happy.gif:
I just hope that someday notch fixes the graphical glitches so we don't have to use a mod to make it work right.
Many thanks. I agree! I like all the updates that Notch introduces, but it would be better if he could fix the graphical glitches for higher res. then we wouldn't be continually re-patching. Awesome game though! :smile.gif:
Ever since the update with notches addon thing all I get is black screen when I use the size patcher. Ive never gotten this problem before. the texture pack works in notches loader but it has thoes glitches.

Yes, as usual nothing to do directly with the HD packs, but the fact that xau's 'MC Patcher' mod needs to be updated. He is away at the moment until the 29th Nov., but has put up temporary solution instructions on his thread http://www.minecraftforum.net/posting.php?mode=quote&f=25&p=1384196
Quote from xau »
Latest Minecraft Update
To use with the latest Minecraft update (Nov24):
1. Run the patcher
2. Click "Minecraft Folder"
3. Close the patcher
4. In the minecraft folder, delete minecraft.original.jar and the file called "version"
5. Run Minecraft with the launcher and log in to make sure the latest version is downloaded
6. Close Minecraft
7. Run the patcher
8. Uncheck "Custom Water" and "Custom Lava" - the patcher needs to be updated before these will work
9. Click Patch
I will not be home until Nov 29 so I probably will not be able to post an updated patcher before then. I will try and coordinate with someone to get an update out though. It's a trivial fix.
Common Errors Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: nz.<init>(II)V
Custom Water and Lava will not work until the patcher is updated. Uncheck them to work around this error.
########## GL ERROR ########## @ Pre render 1281: Invalid value
The game is trying to render textures at a different resolution than it was patched for. The patcher replaces the default Minecraft textures and this is the only supported use case at this time. Either delete options.txt or switch back to the default texture pack before patching. This will be fixed in future versions.
Outdated Client
Follow the instructions above to remove your backup minecraft.original.jar and patch from the new version. This will be fixed in future versions.
I've checked out the above temp solution and it works ok with the default water and lava. Fortunately my nether textures still work ok and the bricks and gold blocks are back to normal too.
Hope it works for you! :smile.gif: Thanks for your patience. I used to look forward to Notche's updates, but I'm kind of dreading them now. :sad.gif:
Everytime I use the patcher to fix the laver, water, etc it messes my Minecraft up. When I try to launch it all it gives me after login is a black screen. Ive tried patching it in every way and none work. Any ideas?
I was going to post pics of my steampunk(ish) city but my minecraft got screwed up :sad.gif:.
Oh! :sad.gif: Mine got screwed too if that's any consolation! Check above if you didn't see. There is a temporary solution that works for everything but the custom water and lava...at least it did for me! Now to see if I can get 'ambient occlusion' mod to work again. All this is messing with my schedule to get the pumpkinblur.png finished!! Gargh!!!
@ Spectre118: Have you checked out the temporary solution from xau a couple of posts above? A bit more info. on his thread too. The trick I think is to make sure you don't select 'custom water' and 'custom lava', until xau updates the patcher mod. It worked for me, but not before I lost an evening's work to get it all to running again! :sad.gif:
Hope that helps!
@ theicychameleon: Ha ha! I was looking for that pic no.2! Tiger4Ruler found that one just after the Halloween update. Now why does your Google find that and not mine!! :sad.gif: Mine must be inferior to yours! Lol. It still looks a little modern, but I can get some ideas for lighting from it. I did find pic no.1 but again not quite perfect, but still helpful! You'd think someone, somewhere would have stuck a camera up inside an antique diving helm to show peeps what it looks like to look out of these things. :biggrin.gif:
I much appeciate you finding that one though! :smile.gif:
and ask the guys who made the airships in the pictures to upload their saves?
Love those pics! :smile.gif: There's not a lot of room for a lot of detail, but I certainly want to try and get something mechanical looking in there. The new watch Notch gave us is a little gift really for this theme, so I want to get it's little mechanical possibilties just right. Same goes for the compass too. I already have a copy of your second pic on file - it's from 'The Golden Compass' movie isn't it! I'd forgotten about the steampunk aspect of that movie...I'll have to have another look at that again (have it on DVD).
A few people have asked me for a copy of my world, and some time in the future I will make it available, but just now it's in an embarrassing state of chaos and there's a lot needs finishing to make it presentable. I really am torn between two worlds (Minecraft pun! :biggrin.gif:), progressing this theme for everyone with new toys, and my own world 3...and I do like to build (this game has not lost it's appeal one bit since I downloaded it back in June 2010!)!
I guess I'm also holding out at the moment, because I'd like to do a seperate feature on it too, with a much more realised world, with maps and back story, etc. No question that i want to show it off and share the world though. It's a bad feeling to have really! Like holding on to a present for someone and all you want to do is let them unwrap it and see their reaction! Lol! Sorry. Waxing a bit lyrical there in my old age! :smile.gif:
I'll try and fit a little notice in at the top of the thread, for folks who submit pictures, to also consider offering a copy of their world save file!
I've taken to the habit of removing javaw.exe from my firewalls allowed list, thus stopping the mandatory updates until I know it's "safe" lol. No updates until I'm ready for them makes me a very happy bunny in regards to not having to check which mods are working and especially so in this case, I love your water lol.
Glad you like the pic :biggrin.gif: I started a new save as I've run out of steam (bad pun ahoy!) on my main building project. The only problem is I found this spot and directly opposite is a space large enough for me to build a small town with the best scenery I've found in game to date so it looks like this could become my new main project and the old city save will become the hobby project lol.
The diving pumpkin really got me excited when I saw how well it fit onto posts, I just wish we had a second fence post that was metallic as it would open up an incredible range of aesthetic possibilities. The single glowing face inspired me to build them almost adjacent over large distances as a form of rudimentary morse code signalling devices. Complete fantasy I know, but artistic license is half the reason I play lol. Hope you find the time to get more building done, this amount of hard work and effort deserves a boatload of relaxation time :biggrin.gif:
I think in future I'm going to follow your advice and block Minecraft with my firewall. I've no real interest at present in multiplayer, so to get hit each time with Notch's latest updates is a bit of a pain. However, I suppose it allows me to offer some kind of support for others using my textures when something goes wrong!
Haha! I think Minecraft and Steampunk are very good at instigating bad puns! Lol. :biggrin.gif:
I agree with you on the subject of fences. it would be great to have a seperate texture for fences and I'm all for small changes creating big possibilities.
In mentioning the fact that pumpkins only shine from one face has suddenly made me think there are probably many uses for them, in terms of one's position in relation to them at distance. I'm often a bit click happy with torches and get confused finding my way home on great journeys when i've used them as markers. Pumpkin lanterns need only be placed so that the back of one, always faces towards the next one, closest to where you want to return. Wow! That sentence confuses even me and I just typed it!! :biggrin.gif: Is that what you were getting at?
@ Tiger4Ruler: That's a nice looking world and some huge quantity of glass covering it, excellent! Ha ha, I know what you mean about finding your place though with that huge 'Welcome' mat on the beach! Nice one! Is that 'mcmap' you're using there? I'm thinking it is.
I've just remembered I still have your texture skin for the Morlock to put up at the top. I think I will create a little area at the top, for folks to contribute their own little steampunk textures to. It will take a little bit of the pressure off me, while I do my own. I'm missing being able to build in my world, and I don't want to rush the textures I do when I get the time. Many thanks!
@ haxjagarn: Nice little watch there. :smile.gif: I'll bung it to the top for others to use. Many thanks! I'm not offering to edit it in, or I'll never get my own stuff done, but I'm sure others who can cut and paste will be grateful for your work!
This exture pack is amazing!
It wouldnt work at first and I wanted to just smash my head off my laptop!
But now all is fine and im loving the textures!
Many thanks for making this.I still cant make an airship properly though!
Great that you got it to work in the end. I posted instructions to fix problems after the update, see above and at the top of the thread. Glad that you like the textures after all that frustration. :smile.gif:
As regards building an airship - google some pics and then try and rough build it in 'Cube Kingdom', save you messing about in mid-air and not being able to see what your doing, it's a nifty little program:
'Cube Kingdom' - a Japanese cube editor that's been adapted for use with Minecraft: http://www.modminecraft.com/category/tools/
'Nautilus' hull, centre section, front view, by Glimmar.
Here's a little 'Glimmar's Steampunk' texture pack for it too. Just makes using it a little more in-keeping with the steampunk theme:
copy and paste this to your desktop, convert to a '.bmp' file and load into Cube Kingdom to use some of my texture pack in your designs. Have fun! Show us your efforts or any tips for using the texture pack. We all learn off each other! :biggrin.gif:
I don't know how much use it could be to you, but I recently designed a steampunk revolver, If you think it'd be useful I can scan it and post it here.
Do you mean an actual steampunk revolver, or a .png pic of a steampunk revolver? Either way I'd be interested in seeing it, and if it is a .png file then I'll add it to the little collection below. Many thanks :smile.gif:
