@ templar15: That's an amazing two cents worth and a brilliant start for me to work from! :smile.gif: Love the idea for the automaton or steam-driven exo-skelton armour...it would be awesome to do. :biggrin.gif: Wonderful ideas there! I'll see what can be done sir!
Made an account for the forums just to give my input!
Best. Texture. Pack. Ever.
Keep up the good work!
The only thing I've been worried about with it is how the nether will look aesthetically. But I think it's coming together. I've actually contemplated the idea of green sludge instead of lava. Still something to watch out for, still something that could cause bodily harm, and it wouldn't look too out of place imo. Not to mention the already bits of green torch-based flames popping out of the bright red lava looks slightly off, but I'm a perfectionist, so that's bound to bother me.
Before your textures I was working on a huge kingdom with a castle, town, farm, etc. But now that's all being redone for your pack. (along with the help from the underwater breathing apparatus and elevator mods)
I can't wait for the steam-driven robots making clanking and steam sounds instead of moans.
Or the robotic pressure gauge spiders!
Or the doomsday ticking time bomb kamikazes!!
Or..!
Yeah... Got carried away...
Ha ha! I like to change things, that's for sure, I just can't see myself going as far as changing the lava to green sludge though, but interesting idea. I realize the little green flames popping out of the lava can be a little disconcerting when first seen, but I like the contrast now and reminds me of all the little metallic impurities burning up in the lava and the different colours you see in an open wood fire. A small price to pay for the lambent gas lamps I hope! :smile.gif:
The lava was a last minute rush job to get the texture pack out for the first time just before the Halloween update. It's undoubtedly horrible! Only someone who has a baked bean fetish could possibly stand to look at it for more than a few minutes. At some time I will try to do better...promise. Though properly animated lava may be beyond my humble talents! :sad.gif:
I'm sorry about your castle, etc. Would it not be possible to build around them, keep them as the 'old centre'. I see Steampunk as kind of encompassing a lot of time periods from gothic through to 20th century styles and through to future tech, albeit with an underlying low-tech brassy, steam finish and a particular bent towards Victoriana.
As regards the clanking, steam driven robots, etc. I'll do my best with the art, but I'd need the help of some clever sound modder to get the full atmosphere. Anyone? Let me see what I can come up with first and then I'll throw it out for some suggestions. :smile.gif:
Haha! I like to get carried away imagining different things. I'd never have started with this theme or even Minecraft if I didn't get carried away on flights of fancy! :biggrin.gif:
Little metallic impurities burning up... I can see that. For a second I actually considered changing the torches back to less gas-lamp-like qualities for my own personal use but I couldn't put myself through that sort of injustice, they're just too awesome!
And don't worry about the castle, majority of it was built in my head rather than on the actual game. With the complete flip of medieval to steampunk I can keep much of the elements of my idea but going them a nice industrial twist to all of them, which can - in turn - only make it that much better.
As far as the robots go, it's a must! I'd deal with bone-clanking automatonic soldiers if I had to, but the visual aspect is a requirement. I have no doubt that when this pack is completely done, that it'll be flawless!
Glimmar, your pack has gone from strength to strength, its amazing to see its progress, your ideas and use of blocks is amazing. You have one of the most wild packs on the forums, your detailing is fantastic and the fact that you are so committed to this is amazing, for someone who said they don't have much time. I cannot wait to see your items and mobs as well as more of your world! far out man.
from me I would love to request a video walk through of your world if you have the time, complete or not :smile.gif:
Many thanks for those encouraging words! :smile.gif: Without which I wouldn't have the same enthusiasm that I do for the phenomenon that is Minecraft texturing. Much appreciated!
I'm torn between the two worlds of texturing and building now. I must pay for my grievious sins I must have committed in the past. It is my penance I suspect...I enjoy them both, but particularly the building, as it is the easier option at the moment, and the other can be torturous indeed! :smile.gif:
Haha, one day my friend, I will walk through my little world and video it in all it's chao...I mean splendour (who am I kidding!), for all to see! That will be another pleasure to look forward to, (probably more for me than the rest of the community!), but for now, methinks, I better concentrate on the next update. 'Tis a pleasure in itself dishing out little toys to play with! Lol! :biggrin.gif:
So, while a pistol or rifle might make sense for steampunk, it really clashes with using flint, sticks and feathers to make bullets, and wood and string to make a bow. So, how about a steam-powered crossbow? It'd be perfect for li'l gears, lenses and the like.

You think along the same lines as me.
I'd love a good ol' blunderbus or something, but I have a little sketch in my notebook dating back to early September when I started this texture, for a kind of crossbow gun, which wouldn't need the things like sound effects modding at all! Infact it would be more realistic than the default bow with the rapidity with which we can fire it. A repeat action steampunk crossbow gun...sounds lethal! I like the addition of lenses, etc. given the limited number of pixels, it'll be a tight squeeze though.
@Glimmar
As I already suggested, wrenches for swords!
If you fave other ideas, I'm still trying to make all the set to look right (eyah, red one was quite better than others)
Also, I'd like to remind you to redo diamonds in more blueish color, to match the block.
Glimmar. everything looks awsome, EPIC texture pack. i was realy pleased with the updated textures for the neather. i wasnt sure what to do with those blocks befor hahaha huge iron steam fortress FTW. minecraft was fun befor but sence i found this texture pack its added another level of enjoyment to the game. i like alot of ideas taht your other fans have aswell. a sort of clockwork rifle (or crossbow so you dont have to mod sounds) would we realy a realy nice addition, wrench for swords is another good idea, or some sort of clockworks added to the handle of the existing sword skin, evil dynomite steam robots to replace the creepers :tongue.gif:. anyway there are lots of things that you can do with it to make it even better and be sure nomatter which direction you take it we will be looking forward to V 1.5 :happy.gif:
Spectacular! I downloaded this pack last night and enjoyed it alot! The ferns are my favorite plant that I have seen in Minecraft so far, I live in an area where the grow everywhere. I love all your screenshots too, the really do the pack justice. Also I'd like to say what a creative idea to make the multi-sided blocks with decorative images on them and then use them for construction (by placing them just right), I hadn't thought of that!
Keep up the good work !
PS:
Thanks for posting links to other mods, if people didn't do this I wouldn't have known about some of the greatest!
@ MarchNero: As Captain Haemoglobin pointed out, you need to apply xau's 'MC patcher' programme to fix all the glitches when you install any HD texture pack. Water in the Nether is a sure indicator that the patch isn't working or you haven't applied it. Check out the instructions on page 1 of this thread, the link for xau's patcher is there too.
Hope that helps! :smile.gif:
@ GTG3000, I'm starting a file now for all the item and mob suggestions I get. Thanks for reminding me about the wrench! I remember it now in the thread! :smile.gif:
At some stage I'll be re-doing/improving a lot of the textures, but with the limited time I have now in the run up to Christmas I'm concentrating on the GUI's, items and pumpkinblur diving helm interior (that's proving harder than I thought it would!). Once I get on to the steampunk painting-accessories I can start re-editing the iron, gold and diamond blocks.
@ Kellbourn: Many thanks. I'm always grateful for suggestions off everyone and anyone who has an interest. For steampunk, which is wide open to the imagination, it would be difficult for me to think of something original for every single item (my brain is already suffering lag! :biggrin.gif:), so any help is very much appreciated.
I don't know how soon v1.5 will be, but I'll try and get something new out as soon as possible. :smile.gif:
@ Seisiki: You are right of course. The inventiveness of modders and the adaptability of Minecraft is unique in gaming history. I'll still do something like a crossbow gun for a starter though.
Risugami's mods are the closest thing to 'gun' weapon technology at the mo', but I'd feel a bit out of my depth at this stage trying to adapt items to fit his mods. When I'm a bit more familiar with the items, like the painting gadgets I intend to do, I'll just keep adding to the range of weapons and items folks can choose from...so I'm always listening out for suggestions! :smile.gif:
@ RiverC: I've copy pasted those pics into my inspiration file for now. Many thanks!
Have you started building in that amazing world you edited yet? :smile.gif:
@ Heftig: Many thanks. Glad you like!
I like ferns in real life too. We live on a hillside and have ferns in lots of nooks and crannies down the garden. In Minecraft they've got many uses and have that slightly wild look to them over the normal flowery bush. I just wish Notch would allow us to have more botanical specimens in the world ( I may make one or more of the paintings into wall climbing plants yet!) for the gardeners amongst us!
In any event, even after I've made this texture pack complete, I still intend to keep adding new versions of everything. This game was an absolute revelation to me when I first discovered it, and in terms of imagination in play and creativity, has already given me more pleasure than any other 'computer' game/simulation I've owned, since I first started playing in the mid-1980's! It's a phenomenon for sure...no, not my age!!
In terms of links for mods, etc. I've just been fiddling with 'Cube Kingdom', a Japanese cube editor that's been adapted for use with Minecraft, available here: http://www.modminecraft.com/category/tools/
Having only used it for a few minutes I can already see how useful it will be for designing bases, ships, submarines and dirigibles! Simple to use, but amazingly helpful and a great way of sharing designs with others. Here's the beginnings of my Nautilus submarine I'm going to build in my harbour sometime:
Nautilus hull centre section front view:
Nautilus hull centre section rear view:
Nautilus hull centre section interior view:
The above is just a short section.
Many thanks for the support everyone. It's much appreciated! :smile.gif:
Will you be making steampunk mob/GUI? Or is this purely a terrain.png deal?
No, I'm slowly but surely going to be changing everything to fit the theme!
Thanks for asking. :smile.gif: It's reminded me that I need to make this clear at the top of the thread - a 'what's done' and 'what's still to do list', then folk can help me brain-storm those things that are still to do!
Many thanks indeed.

I like the sound of that! Sounds like a place for hidden passages to boathouses and railways off through the pine forests!
I'm looking forward to having time to try out the biome editor and those settings of yours! :smile.gif:
Obviously, we'll have to see what tomorrows patch from Notch brings. I'm assuming it may effect the biome editor, as well as other mods. :sad.gif:
