You're thinking on the same lines as me. :smile.gif:
I'm putting together more pics soon of what I've done in my own world with the textures so far. So hopefully you'll see what I'm getting at with this multi-tasking imperative of mine! This sort of thing takes a lot of organizing but I think it's worthwhile in explaining some of my design decisions.
Oh-ho! I can't wait to see your new pictures, then! The Sign sounds like it will be especially ornate.
I hope you put a clock and some wires on the TNT block, as well as give the Minecart its' dues as a means of getting around(I can already tell the Powered Minecart will look fantastic)
A few more comments from the peanut gallery, though:
-Perhaps you could add a thicker/darker edge to the Glass block. That would help emphasize the girder look when you need it.
-Is that gear-studded block the solid Iron block?
-If you DO have a trilobite insignia anywhere, you should add it in the paintings. That'll make everybody happy.:Notch:
-Heheheh, I can only imagine how the mobs are gonna look. Monocle Zombies and Top-Hat Creepers, anyone?

I tried a thicker edge to the glass and unfortunately it didn't tesselate how I thought it would when used structurally.
Yep that gear block thingy is definately my answer to making stored iron 'work' for it's keep!! :biggrin.gif:
I'm open to suggestions for insignia, etc for inspiration. There are far greater experts on the steampunk scene than I. I just like the imagery, the gadgets and the concept. :smile.gif:
Yes the TNT has plenty of scope for a multi tasking gadget, but one wrong move near it and your not going to thank me for making it look like a nice steampunkian gizmo! :biggrin.gif:
I think paintings and mobs will be way down the line, if I haven't already burned myself out on the terrain file. I'm a slow worker by-the-way! :sad.gif: I'm getting worried I'm going to disappoint! :ohmy.gif: I struggled for nearly 3 days on that gear thingy. There are just too many possibilities and not enough decision making brain cells in my head to process them. I'm feeling a little bit like a at the moment!
nice texture pack mate, looks brilliant. gives me a bit of a nostalgic feeling being that i used to LOVE arcanum.
on a side not if you have not seen that game, it would be a great idea starter for your texture pack.
I love this pack and how it's shaping up to be a amazing pack that i would use for quite some time. But i don't like the shovel. I never understood why people flip the shovel for "Realistic" shovel animations. So please, if you could release this with the shovel not flipped or flipped in two different versions. that would be great.
Can I just get a texture file of what you have done so far for my own personnel use, you have some texture blocks that I would like to use for my personnel texture thing.
Oh man, this is amazing. I especially like the idea of letting glass double as a structural piece. And also the cactus. And also the doors, and the iron, and more or less everything. :tongue.gif:
If you want to keep working on this, that'd be also amazing, but I wouldn't worry about disappointing people. I'm pretty sure we'd all still love you if you stopped working on it as-is.

John B. I'm flattered by your wanting to use the textures as is, but I don't want to release anything while there are still major gaps in the Terrain file and I have lots of ideas to round it off.
When it's finished, you peeps can do what you want with it (within the realms of decency!) and if I think I can't finish it for whatever reason (including madness due to overwork and lack of sleep), I'll also see that it gets released so that the individual bits can still be used. If anyone is like me, then it's gonna get chopped and changed to suit their own personal worlds anyway.
I'm just glad your all liking something about it!

It's so atmospheric I expect to see Captain Nemo fling back the door and stomp across the room, on the way to the Nautilus. It reminds me a lot of playing Space 1889, too.
Thanks, Hoodwink. You've hit the nail on the head there. I think that's the sort of image I had in my head when I first started on this. Captain Nemo and the Nautilus is part of my childhood and my idea of steampunk, though I like what the genre has evolved into today. And strangely I think the world of Minecraft is a wonderfully epic place for this kind of theme. :smile.gif:

I still have Arcanum in my collection! Judging by your name you sound like "League of Extraordinary Gentleman" might have been a favoured film. I certainly loved it, along with 'Van Helsing', etc. All good stuff to feed the imagination. :biggrin.gif:

I appreciate that greatly, Maktube.:smile.gif: I'm still enthusiastic, thanks to you guys, and lots of ideas, but a little frustrated at some of the landscape texture attempts. A nice challenge though, and the beauty of it is that I think most people are pretty familiar with chopping and changing the textures to suit themselves, so even if I get some things wrong, just use what you like...in the spirit of Minecraft sharing

i do enjoy that film, all though i am a bit more of a classic going for the book of Dorian Gray. The only reason i use -ey at the end is cause it is the same as my last name.
What have you still got left to work on for the pack mate?
a list would be good so we can help you brain storm :smile.gif:

Now that's a good idea. If I get time, I'll try to put a list together. Although the steampunk imagery appeals to me, I'm no great expert on the modern day subject. So yes, I'd be grateful for any ideas that get the little grey cells firing. Thanks mate! :smile.gif:
Currently I'm only trying to finish the 'terrain' file, but I do have some of the items like signs, minecarts and boats kind of working, but not ideal. Minecarts and boats I find difficult to get my head round, being like a cornflake box opened out, but with bits that are re-used in other places too!
After those, I think I'd like to tackle the paintings, although I currently use a classical painting set ... Dutch, Gothic American stuff, etc. I downloaded (name escapes me!? sorry author) and that fits well enough into the setting for now.
Looks amazing! I dont really know what steampunk is, but it looks close to a look i have been waiting for, lol.
There was a game i useta love that came out about 10 or so years ago that had a combo of magic and old fasion things like steam powered trains and guns and stuff. victorian type items. This looks alot like it, just wished i could remember teh name.
Good luck and take your time on it. Ill be one of the ones eagerly awaiting for ya to release it!
Ive been doing a steampunk GUI myself, if you want I can send you what little I have a the moment.
That would be very kind, Froman. I've not given the GUI any thought yet, so any inspiration would be cool, and if I used anything, visually or ideas-wise I would do my best to credit you.

I think you should still do the green window thing >:tongue.gif: lol
Steampunk Pack - Steampunk textures.
Frenden's Texture Pack - Nice simple 16x16 texture pack.
Alchemy - *drool* Yesss...

Last would be the GUI, tools and icons, etc.

I'm willing to bet the game was Arcanum. Haven't played it myself, but that's what it sounds like.
good luck mate.
Thats it! What made me mad was i went to play it a few years ago and lost one of my cd's
