Glimmar, Glimmar, Glimmar. I love ya man, but even on my brand-new beast of a computer your OP still takes forever to load. Maybe try compressing some images or making liberal use of spoilers?
Wish spoilers would help with that but contrary to popular belief the spoiled stuff still loads. If you really want the page to be faster, tell Criticsquid (or Curse or whomever is charge of such things) to make the spoilers use AJAX to load their content instead of just hiding it from display.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Hello! Got a couple things to say today. Been playing with Tekkit again, so I've got some ideas for the mod retextures. Also, got some ideas regarding the CTM Random textures.
First off, been doing a lot more with Conductive Pipes on Buildcraft than I had in the past. I notice now that the pipes are a bit too busy, too cluttered to see easily. I'm thinking of redoing them, possibly in a 64x size. Will probably just do the conductive pipes like that, but may redo all the pipes. Not sure.
Also, I still need to look into the Railcraft situation. I think someone else said that they might work on that, but I haven't heard anything regarding progress, so I might do it over the weekend as an excuse to not do my homework.
I haven't added the animated mod textures yet, but I've been meaning to add them in and play around with them a bit. It looks like they are really cool. I can't wait to see what's next in that field.
And now, for Glimmar, regarding random textures… any chance of getting some random textures for the Netherrack? I think that would really add to the feel of the Nether, having some corroded blocks here and there, some grime, etc. Granted, there are enough alternate textures for Netherrack that we could probably make one ourselves, but I think it might be worthy of adding into the main pack, once you get the stone and cobble to your liking.
From the crossed-out part of your first post, it sounds like you are trying to use the compilation as a stand-alone texture pack, which it most definitely is NOT.
In the mod pack compilation folder, you will find a number of files for various mods. When you download this, you must ALSO have the normal texture pack. You will then open the texture pack and COPY the folders from the mod pack over to the folder for the texture pack. Only copy the folders for the mods you have installed (for Tekkit, that would be IC2, RedPower, BuildCraft, Railcraft, Nether Ores… and possibly one or two others). After you copy these files over, EDIT the names of the files, deleting the part within parenthesis (the things surrounding this sentence). Then, RE-ZIP the texture pack and place the new ZIP file into Tekkit's Texture Pack folder.
The part where I said I was fixing something should not affect Tekkit, since Tekkit uses an older version of Railcraft. Newer version have a slightly different layout for some of the textures, and this is what I was referring to when I mentioned that I had to fix it. The compilation is not and never will be the full texture pack download with mod textures. Instead, it is a collection of textures that you can pick and choose from to add to your game.
I hope this helps.
lol I'm not that stupid... I just didn't realise that they had to be manually re-arranged that much. Can you also put in a alt for the diamond pick, as it can be easily confused with the diamond drill.

Not sure if we have any alts lying around for diamond pick, and I can't make one at the moment (busy weekend). Also, sorry if I sounded a bit demeaning in the previous post, I just had a very long day and was a bit on edge. Did you manage to get it to work properly now?

I have the original diamond pick before the drill that I use....
Hey, anyone able to help me out? cant seem to get the sky to work, i used MCpatcher, made sure it was up to date, and just to be safe used a fresh jar. but my skys turn white :I And ive seen the vid, nothing wrong with the pack or anything i just want to know what i can do to get the fancy sky.
I've been rather busy in RL at the mo... and still am, I'm afraid.
There seems to be a lot of posts above, but I'll have to get back to those when I can, sorry.
With very little leisure time for texturing (and I mean very little, as I've been getting back into a bit of road and off road cycling again in the evenings with my wife, plus work and summerhouse construction), I've only been continuing to work on the stone side of things, trying to make improvements and decide what to do globally with all the stone textures, etc. Not even got round to working on the cobble yet though!
I got destracted CTM'ing the chiseled stone block to get more use out of it, whilst retaining it's original 'center holed' single block use... for whatever purpose Mojang might have had in mind for it (though I think it's only a decorative block). What little I've done isn't ready yet, but thought I'd show a pic or two to explain that I've gone for a pillar/column secondary use, because when laid horizontally it can be also be used as a good edging or capping stone too. I intend something similar for the marble-like half block, but with different designs.
There will probably be variations on column designs for you to swap in and out and the base part of the column shown here is still a simple block style, rather than a traditional column base design.
The top part of the chiseled stone is a separate random ctm york-stone like texture that should also allow for more variation for floors, etc. Just working on more dwsigns for this at the mo' and still trying to decide how to incorporate the 'hole' in the single chiseled block.
I'm also considering using one of the wool textures (probably grey) as another random stone block idea I have, but I'm mindful of the fact that a lot of users don't like the wool to be used for weird and wonderful textures. When I'm ready I'll show some pics of what I want to use it for.
As you can probably ascertain, I'm wanting to build some fairly epic stone buildings and want to increase my stone palette without having to rely on mods, at least until the mod api is incorporated or mod support is made official.
Anyway, here are the pics:
Glancing at the news for the next MC update has got me in a panic at the number of changes and extra stuff required... which wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't already suffering from a crisis of confidence due to lack of time, very little sleep, and too much perusal of how other texture packs have better applied their skills for stone and such.
Don't expect too much by way of content for the next MC update folks. It may be a case of fixing what's broken and upgrading the vanilla graphics for new things as and when I can... sorry!

Sorry, ItsHunter, not sure what to advise there, other than the obvious question, did you remember to switch on the Better Skies option when patching, what other mods are you using and are you using a 1.4 snapshot?
Knowing just how way behind I am on things, I'm probably the worst person to offer advice. I wouldn't be so sure it's not down to the way I mix up resolutions of textures in my two packs, but whatever, I hope you manage to fix it, mate. If there's anything I feel at all satisfied with at the moment it's my starfield texture, so I hope you get a chance to use it.
i rather like your pillars, but i never expected to see them in your pack. making pillars work with a steampunk pack seems like it wouldn't logically look right, since imo they always come off looking... greek, or oddly official, but yours are a bit more subtle than most and do indeed look rather victorian. i like it.
ive just been getting into ctm lately myself. just for wool so far.

I've been using ctm support since version 6 of my pack, but in a very big random way with over a hundred different plants, foliage, stone, etc.
I tend to think that classical and gothic architecture both go hand in hand with Steampunk, because both styles of architecture experienced great revivals during the Victorian era and Steampunk can be set in both a traditional and fantastical version of that period. All those wealthy cotton mill owners and steel manufacturers bequeathing and spending huge fortunes to leave lasting monuments as their legacy... and always mostly in a Greek or Romanesque style. I'm surrounded by these edifices every time I go into my city centre... that and pigeons!
I also can't think of a more officially minded period in history, with all those timekeepers, engineers, iron ship builders and railway pioneers ruling over the masses.
Glad you like the look of things though.
The problem with MC Patcher's wonderful facility for CTM and animation, is that there's just too many possibilities and not enough power left in my tired old brain and limited leisure time to decide what to work on next.
I look forward to checking out your wool and congrats on your moderator status ( I don't think I offered my exaltations before ). Well done.

To be completely honest, i still have v5 of your pack.
Ive hardly played minecraft at all in the last few months, and all i know of the 1.3 update is that there's emerald now.
And the few times i have played minecraft, ive been using my own pack and only playing it for testing purposes.
Your varied plant life intrigues me, i must download v7 and see what you've done with ctm soon.
Anyway, i do believe that you mentioned my moderator status before back when it was new, but anyway thanks again XD
Is it true that you are planning on making a full upgrade to 64x eventually? I have a vague memory of something about that, but it could just be my brain lying to me, as it often does.

To be honest, mate, I find it very reassuring that there's someone else out there who isn't as familiar with all the changes that have been taking place in Minecraft recently... I feel pretty swamped with all the new stuff that's on it's way. I do exactly the same as you too, I mostly only have time to pop into my own pack, do a little editing and perhaps a few mins of building and then I'm shattered after a full days work with workout thrown in!
As regards the CTM, as mentioned, I'm mostly interested in the random possibilities for certain textures and not so much in other aspects, (I'm not very quick on the uptake of new things! Lol) but recently using 'vertical' ctm for column work kind of sunk down to the more cognicent(?) levels of my brain and various valves started humming in my head and finally managed to work out how to get random tops, as different from the vertical ctm sides. I'm quite intrigued at the possibilities!
Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing and commenting on your status before, but I thought I'd better give my praises again just incase.
As regards upgrading my pack to 64x, it's kind of already always been there with regard to guis, mobs, water, lava, fire, portal, etc and certain items, terrain and animations have been in since v6. It'll probably be years before I have a full 64x terrain and items finished. As you'll know, the work involved in maintaining a pack is pretty daunting at best, but with what MC Patcher and various other mods throw into the mix, it gets quite overwhelming.

I think if someone told me the amount of time I'd be spending updating stuff, I'd have kept my packs to myself. As it is, I've gotten so far behind, I'm not sure if I'm even going to catch up before the next major update happens. ~sigh~
Commiserating about the trials and tribulations of keeping packs up to date aside, I do love the look of those stone pillars. Personally, I'd love to see you go wild with a 'creative' version of your pack where you make full use of all the wool blocks as other stones and the like. (And I'd like you to win the lotto so that you have enough time to actually do that. )

Hahah, thanks, mate.
I make matters even worse for myself, because I'm incredibly disorganised with all my work and easily flit between interests, which is very inefficient, but I think that's part of being too tired in the evenings as well.
I'm wishing I could win the lottery too now (if I even did the jolly thing!). My other half had a hard day at work today teaching, so one of those occasions when you just wish you could pack it all in with a nice big pot of cash as security.
As regards the wool, it's always my concern that given the theme of the pack, too many users may have invested time in using my wool for making airships or other such colorful steampunkery, but I constantly forget there's nothing stopping me doing a... as you say... a separate 'creative' version of the pack that makes use of the wool blocks for extra architectural purposes. It's only with discovering what wonderful things can be done with ctm and animation that I have this urge to break some of the wool up, whilst leaving enough primary colours for dirigibles and such.
I'm assuming there's a sensible reason why it's not possible to have the facility to manually choose (in game) which random texture to place on the face of a ctm block or which random plant to plonk down. It would certainly make gardening easier and put creative building on a whole new level.
Oh, I love those new stone pillars! I feel a rash of bank building coming on.
I'm sure this is a really stupid question that marks me out as a total imbecile, but I've just noticed that CTM doesn't seem to be functioning for me. All of the textures are functioning fine and I definitely checked the CTM box on MCPatcher, and all the other MCPatcher functions are working fine (love the new sky textures) so what did I miss?
What aspect of ctm isn't working, TheBluejay? I may have unintentionally confused things because if you were expecting to see the pillars using the pack at the mo'... you won't, as they're not in yet. Sorry.
The only ctm things in v7 of my pack you really should notice are all the random plants and foliage (my current stone has been given a pseudo-randomness to prevent patterns, but it doesn't hit you in the face with it's ingenuity). There's a video showing off many of the random ferns, tall grass, desert plants, etc. in my OP.
You've selected CTM in MC Patcher, so you've absolutely done the right thing there. Are you using one of the weekly updates perchance? I'm not saying that would be the cause, but I can't think what would cause ctm not to show up unless there's conflict with another mod.
Most people round here aren't the kind to shout Noob, so hopefully someone will have some suggestions. If something occurs to me I'll get back to you.
Thanks for trying the pack and glad you like my new starfield texture.

Pretty sure the main reason is that there just isn't enough space in the save to store the information without changing how the save file is structured. Each block can only store 4 bits (half a byte) of data. Some blocks such as stairs already use up most of that space keeping track of their orientation.
Personally I'm just holding out for the API as one of their stated goals is to make it easy to add new blocks. With a possible 4096 IDs available, there is a lot of room for adding things.

I don't think we've added those in yet. They are part of the Advanced Machines add-on, and I don't think anyone has retextured that part yet.
Here's the pick added to the item sheet, in both 32x and 64x.
