I love that they're adding in new content all the time, too. I don't do any texture pack work, so I was wondering how you felt about the additions in relation to having to maintain a detail texture pack like this. Thanks for the answer.
I don't know if you have looked at More Paintings lately but he has a new version called Tiny Pics Edition. Not sure if it would work for what you were interested in or not.
Both the Insane and Tiny Pics editions just look amazing. I'm seriously drooling at what could be done with that for this pack. But I feel like a kid in a candy store at the moment, not knowing which thing to work on next!
If I was to use MC Patcher for animating some paintings, do you have any idea how using More Paintings would effect things, CuZnDragon? It would help me decide which to work on in the future.
Tips, eh? Haha! Serious question that, and one I'd have to advise you to think about carefully. It's both a privilege and a curse to have a pack that's lasted so long. So I'd probably say, make sure you are prepared to put in hundreds, if not thousands of hours of work if all goes well, if you want to keep up with public demand and all the new things MC and MC Patcher plus Mods throw out.
It might seem obvious, but look for a niche or theme that hasn't been covered before, unless of course you feel you can do better than some theme that already exists, but definitely pick something you really feel passionate about, to motivate you long term.
Don't be discouraged by negative comments, take note of polite criticism and suggestions, but stick to what feels right to you and your pack.
Take things at your pace. If you start well... don't be bullied into churning out stuff faster than is enjoyable or satisfying as an artist. If it's not fun, don't do it. You'll never please all, or even some of the people, all of the time. If you don't enjoy building in MC with your own textures, then you're doing something wrong and you'll soon lose interest.
If I knew back then how much work would be involved now in maintaining a texture pack for MC, I probably wouldn't have started. However, some of the most generous people I've met online have been in the pages of this thread and they've made the effort worthwhile at times when you feel like throwing in the towel. Believe me, Minecraft is a beast of a genre and many who sail her on the winds of imagination are unforgiving and demanding to the point of insanity.
I love that they're adding in new content all the time, too. I don't do any texture pack work, so I was wondering how you felt about the additions in relation to having to maintain a detail texture pack like this. Thanks for the answer.
And when I gave the above answer, I wasn't even aware of all the hoo-ha over the new villager/zombie and leather armor textures in the 1.4 snapshots. That may or may not make for much extra hard work in the future.
The nature of the theme and the detail I like to try to squeeze in, does mean I've probably made a rod for my own back. There's one good thing though... I never ever get bored!

Does MCPatcher allow for the pictures to be animated? I would assume the tinypics would be scaled up to 32x or 64x.

As far as I know, it does. Still to make something of it though. A few moving archetypal Victorian machines, wouldn't go amiss, though it would be a lot of work.

Any tiny pics or insane More Paintings work from me would almost certainly be made at 64x scale. The 'trompe-l'œil' effect would just be so much better than 32x.

Woohoo! Got the first of the GUI done for Better Than Wolves
It took a massive headache, waking up in the middle of the night, and extreme restlessness and boredom to finally get me in gear but I think it turned out very well
I second that question, the Tecknic pack is quickly becoming very popular amongst the minecraft community and adding a Steam Punk edge to an already awesome industrial mod tool set would just be epic. Although I would also suggest adding a 16x16 texture pack for ppl who have limited computing power.
A number of users of the pack are working on making edits for various mods, many of which are in Technic or Tekkit. If you look on the OP, in the Mods section, you will find a mod compilation pack that has textures and instructions on how to install them. We currently have most of the Tekkit mods at least partly implemented, mostly just missing things such as items and GUIs, but we are working on it. Just be careful with Railcraft, as the Technic version changed a bunch of stuff, so I'll need to go in and edit that when I have some spare time. It's still fine for Tekkit though…
Oh. My. Gawsh. You have made one of the best texture packs I have EVAR seen in my life. Not only did you make the best evar, you ALSO showed me how to use a banner/signature!!! Thank you SO much for the texture pack (and banner/sig.) You know, how about you taking this? From s2supersis

This is why this is an amazing texture pack, for moments just like this. http://i.imgur.com/uNeF3.png
I have a question that hopefully someone here can answer. I am using Soartex 64 Texture Pack on Minecraft1.3.2 modded for Sonic Ethers Shaders. I am also playing Steamcraft for 1.3.2. My question is I would like to keep Soartex since I love it so much and transfer over the textures from this amazing texture pack just for the Steamcraft textures. Is that possible??

You should be able to use the mod textures for Steamcraft just fine with the other pack. Just add the texture files (See CuZnDragon's posts above and on previous page for texture sheets). Just remember that that will be for personal use only: You may NOT redistribute any remix packs including Glimmar's textures to others under the terms of use of this pack.
Got another update for the GUI of Better Than Wolves. This time for the millstone.
In-game screenshot:
Took alot of work to try and make all that machinery not feel to out of place, although Im pretty sure it will never look as good if made by Glimmar! I tried my best regardless.

Haha! Many thanks for those kind words, Diggah.
Unless something enormously drastic happens (and I realize I shouldn't tempt the fates) I don't intend abandoning the pack, at least not for a long while. There might be times when I have to go slow, but I'll do my best to always make the pack usable after updates.
I'm purposefully not working on 1.4 snapshots until some of the controversial changes to villagers/zombies and armor are fixed, but whatever is settled on I'll live with some way. So I'm just having some satisfying fun upgrading some current textures (eg. like stone bricks, where I'm using random CTM features to add a little variety and realism to what were a little over worked drab textures, quickly rushed out).
I'm also intending updating a little more often with new work, if I think the difference it will make is worth the hassle of re-downloading.
I still have a bunch of new games sitting next to my PC since the Christmas before last and they still don't have the same pulling power as Minecraft.
This texture pack is my all-time favorite!
Any chance on a Glimmar's Steampunk Tekkit Texture pack?
Glad you like, Aaaaaaar.
As ksheep has already mentioned, he and others are covering this side of things, so I can concentrate on maintaining and improving the base pack... slow as that may be.
I need to feed in a few more alternative textures for the mod steam magicians around here to use so they have more components in the same style as the pack, but as previously mentioned, I'm torn between too many other interesting areas at the moment... Sorry.

You should be very proud of that, Jester. You've been sensitive to the style of the pack, so users should be very thankful. Very well done and many thanks.

Haha. Nice pic, Rokunowa.
Until I saw the effect for myself in my own world build, I wasn't quite prepared for the difference it made. I never really minded the old Minecraft nighttime texture, but seeing it again showed me just how flat the background was before. Made the effort very worthwhile. Thanks again.

Nice one, mate.
Your first one is still my favorite though. But once again, many thanks for the work you've put in.

In terms of mod compatibility its pretty simple:
1. If its forge then its compatible with 99% of all other forge mods
2. If its not forge it might still be compatible
3. Better Than Wolves is incompatible with EVERYTHING
But its such a great mod its the only one I need
Also regarding the GUI, I do like the first one better as well. I think I got a little zealous with all the machinery in the millstone one, need to keep it simple.
I think that there might be some possibility of animating mod textures. The only problem, which had been stated earlier, is that the IDs of blocks and items are mutable. However, things such as GUIs and paintings should be just fine, if a bit labor intensive to make.
