Don't forget to apply xau's latest 1.1.9 MC Patcher: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=46173
and follow instructions on page 1 of this thread. (the patcher now fixes all the important graphical glitches for HD texture packs. Yay!)
I was hoping to include new biome colours in this update, but I don't want to rush it (though I am enjoying some of the effects it's possible to create!), especially as they will delay me releasing the new Nether blocks you've been waiting for, and currently the in-game texture switcher doesn't recognise them yet (Notch is aware of this bug). It is possible to get them recognised by Minecraft, but I think it would just add unnecessary complications to the instructions, at a time when I'm trying to simplify things.
However, besides the new Nether blocks, I have included other tweaks to the terrain.png file such as ice and sand, new sun and moon (would be grateful for feedback on these), and edited the 'underwater' texture somewhat, to be a little murkier. All the spare Glowstone Lantern block designs are on the terrain.png file for those who want to splice and dice! And until I start on my gadgety art kz.png file, I've included Tiger4Ruler's Steampunk Art as an alternate texture pack download. I prefer to do this as an alternative choice, as I'm sure by now most of you will have your own selections of favourite paintings, but I am very grateful to Tiger4Ruler for providing this file for those who want a more Steampunk aesthetic on their walls.
I've been delayed by putting Mr Messiah's awesome 'Ambient Occlusion' patch: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=55700
and xau's latest v1.1.9 MC Patcher through their paces, and basically playing and experimenting! :smile.gif: Sorry!!
Great to see all the graphical glitches (watch, compass and Nether Portal) all fixed by xau, couldn't have come at a better time for my new Nether textures! :smile.gif:
Also, please may I suggest, if you haven't already, that you download and try out MrMessiah's wonderful Ambient Occlusion' mod - if you can get it to work!. It really has transformed the quality of my textures throughout! Everything just has so much more depth now and I'd put it at the top of my list of essential mods, just below xau's of course. Sorry, I can't provide advice regarding problems installing his mod (I'd just confuse things, so please read MrMessiah's instructions carefully if you take the plunge...and back things up!).
Here's an example of my new sand texture, using the Ambient Occlusion mod:
Well, I hope you have a happy weekend with the Steampunk Nether blocks, etc'. I'd love to see what you do with them. I know for some they don't like the direction I've taken with them, but as they stood, I couldn't really find much visual use for the normal Nether block designs, especially in this theme. When Notch adds more block choice, it may be necessary to change things again, but I can't see that happening for a while.
Have fun, and thanks for your interest, it does keep me plodding along! :biggrin.gif: I'm off to play in Minecraft too!
PS. Please note: as soon as I can transfer the cog and other faces on the iron block to the kz.png file in the 'art' folder (so you'll still be able to use them), I intend to change the look of the block to a more utilitarian iron/steel design. I hope this won't break any of your designs drastically! :sad.gif:
As impressive as ever! The new "riveted iron" Nether block makes great-looking ducting and chimneys by the way.
Thanks Glimmar - I hope you have several days of R&R after that little lot.
Thanks, mate. Just looking forward to a bit of building fun for a change. :smile.gif: Ha ha, that should recharge the batteries.
It's all the text editing, testing and uploading that get to me! Sometimes it feels like I'm running a newspaper rather than designing a few textures. :biggrin.gif:
It's just been pointed out that I've got my hydrated/dehydrated soil textures swapped over. Sorry about that folks! There was I thinking my crops were a thirsty bunch of critters!
Here's a sneak peak of parts of my little private kingdom, 'Glimmar's Abode'.
North Harbour defences and Glimmar's Abode. WIP. Here I intend to build my personal 'Nautilus' submarine and possibly a sailing ship or two. My personal dwelling rises in an adhoc fashion, carved from a mountain that was begging to be made into some kind of fortification.
The Collosus Guardian of my East Harbour. The statue is completely hollow with water inside and a lift that extends to a viewing platform in his crown. The spear tip touches the height limit of the sky. Warships exit on his left side (lava spear of war) and trade ships enter on his right (bowl of plenty). I plan to have an avenue of columns on the dock channel that lead to the harbour on the East side of my fortress. A lot of dredging and land clearing ahead! :biggrin.gif:
Stunned at how good this looks ingame, first time I had a reason to use a 32x pack, and I'm really liking the looks of this. So far I've found not even one thing I'd argue. Can't wait to (you said you were, right?) see any items and such. Main reason for that is placing that normal looking sign from my inventory and it being so amazing upon being planted on the ground.
Also, those pictures look amazing (love the ideas on the bowl and spear as well). I'd actually like to play on a map like that.
One last thing, isn't it possible to change the color you see while underwater? (Doesn't bother me too much, but the inconsistency can throw me off for a bit sometimes).
You know, if you could find a way to edit the portal's look, you could probably just turn it into a "time" portal instead of a portal to the nether/underworld/old civilization. It would fit more with the morlok idea.
This is a beautiful, beautiful pack, and the map you showcase it in is absolutely amazing.
You're a legend, man.
Is there any chance of a 16x16 in the future? Ever? :smile.gif:
Thanks, mate. :biggrin.gif:
If I had time, I'd love to go 16x16 and see what some of the textures look like at 64x64, but at the speed I'm working now, I can't see it happening soon. :sad.gif:
I noticed your location is Southport, UK! I worked for many years in Southport (now there's a place for some Victorian steampunk for sure) and still only live a stone's throw away. Talk about a very small world!! :Notch:.

The 'water.png' file does need a bit of tweeking for the next update. I didn't want it to be too murky though, as those who want to build subs and undewater bases will have problems seeing their creations...especially if wearing a diving helm that also has some texture in the 'pumpkinblur'.

Interesting idea that! Has anyone editied the blue portal graphics yet! I'd love to have a go when I've got some of the other things out of the way.

I just have nightmares that the Morlocks will invade my nice peaceful kingdom above ground. Superstitiously I've even placed my portal on an island away from my base with burning bonfires all round...you know, just in case!! :biggrin.gif:

I decided I'm going to keep the cobble for now.
The smoothestone looks like sand though.
Ha ha! I'm kind of happy with both cobble and stone textures for my own build, excepting my cobble forms horribly into stair blocks!
I will continue to experiment when I've time, but more than any other textures those two I find the hardest. As they are so prevalent in the landscape and buildings, varying the textures to something that looks nice close up, tile horribly over large surfaces! In my world I always wanted the stone to be smoothly hewn stone. :sad.gif:
Whatever I do, I'll always include variations, given the time. :smile.gif:

can you PLEASE give us the map save in the next update? or whenever it's finished, if it's not close.
Ha ha. I can't ever see it being finished! I'd be embarassed for anyone to see all my half-finished projects, but the map itself really is a fantastic location. Early on I acquired some chunk errors, unbeknownst to me, then more chunk errors crept in just after the Halloween update and they have amazing potential. They're not too way out either, looking more like natural uplifts in the landscape.
I'll think again about releasing it. I'd just wanted to make it a little more presentable and start a thread in the Survival Single Player forum a more appropriate home for it I think.:smile.gif:
Here's another look at my world map, this is about month old now and using an older version of Cartograph, but it gives you an idea.
So, what're the chances for oil as an alternate texture for slowsand?
Given the time, I'll do variations for anything, but at the moment I better use what limited time I've got for completing the rest of the texture pack, such as, art, items, etc. It's a cool idea though, just a little more limited for use as foliage, but could make a cool black bedsheet cover, amongst other things! :smile.gif:
I appreciate everyone's ideas though. Keep 'em rolling. I'll try and credit any I use or develop. :smile.gif:

Wow, cool; the best texture pack is made by a local!
You're right, my avatar is set against an old photograph of some Southport architecture. There's a fast expanding Minecraft scene here, so maybe one day a friend will ask you if you've "heard about this new game, called 'Minecraft'". Hehe.
Thanks for continuing work on this pack. :smile.gif:
Ha ha! Next time I'm in Southport I'll be looking at everyone wondering, do they play Minecraft? I will be particularly suspicious of anyone who looks a little too blocky though! :biggrin.gif: Without sounding creepy, I'd even dare to guess that pic in the background of your avatar is C____town, from what I can remember!
Lots of my son's friends now play minecraft too. Everyone has their pet projects they're working on! Minecraft is without a doubt a totally unique game in a sea of mediocre repeats and shooters.
Here is my world3 with my textures and biome colours pretty accurately represented through 'MCmap'.
Well, I know which mapping program I'm using from now on! (please enlarge to see what I mean). Just had to show you what the landscape in this world is like, and why I've never felt the need to move on to another world yet!
Have you seen this mod? It puts the ore block textures back! So, if you've altered your texture to accommodate for the altered ore block texture (where it only uses one to cover all 6 sides), perhaps you can have 2 versions (one for this mod, and one for "default" minecraft), so that people can use this mod, to display the ore blocks properly. I just figured you'd appreciate this mod, considering the uses the blocks had in this texture pack. I plan on using this mod, at least. Mouser X over and out.
