I know that it's now possible for me to animte textures in Minecraft (btw, the animtions here work not with MCPatcher, but with Optifine + another shader pack). Is it possible for us to animate mobs too?
Chocolatin's Better Dungeons pack has a number of NPCs, including dwarves and rainbow-coloured horses. I'd like to convert the rainbow horse into a steampunk-ish "ebony horse" out of the Arabian Knights, made of gold and stuff - but I am unsure if it'd be possible to have it, say, change its colour, ie appear prismatic or holographic as opposed to a cheap MLP knockoff.
Short answer is 'yes' to standard mobs and randomobs, though I can only speak for MC Patcher.
However, I can't confirm if it's possible to animate textures for other mods, not having attempted this. I would imagine they'd have to be supported by MC Patcher/Optifine first. Randommobs (which is obviously supported) animate fine in MC Patcher and I've added a few little animations here and there on my Iron Golems to start with...fully intending to work on more. Being able to animate machine textures is obviously a godsend for a Steampunk theme.
Nearly every .png file in the pack can be animated with MC Patcher, including guis (see my 'taster vid 1'), mobs, villagers, .png files in the 'item' folder like the boat, cart, chest, etc. I've animated quite a few things for the next update. However, as far as I know, it's not possible to animate 'connected textures' in the pack. So it's a case of one or the other when deciding what to do with a block...either animate it or apply CTM features like randomness (as I've tended to do on rather a large scale with plants).
I've found that some parts of .pngs where the state changes in game wouldn't animate, despite my best efforts, eg. the 'page turning' icons on the new book. That might have changed with the latest MC Patcher.

Then wish me luck, mate, because Railcraft and Better Farming are still on the list, and I am also working on three RTS mods, covering the eras of 888-1528AD, 1800-1899AD and 1917-1945AD. Fortunately I have some dudes from Italy and New Zealand helping out, but my project schedules seem a tad full.
It would be ridiculous for me to think I have copyright on a theme and there'd be plenty of demand for a 16x Steampunk pack. So long as you're not copying or scaling down my textures directly, you have my sincere blessing...for what it's worth. I'll happily link back to yours too for mutual support and to further the 'steamy' theme in general. You've already got a great name, by the way.
Steampunk, and all it's sub-genre styles is wide open for interpretation and though I like the darker, grungy industrial side of things, albeit in as natural a world as possible, there are many who have grown up with the Final Fantasy style of punk technology and prefer a more colourful carnival style of world. Others will no doubt envisage something entirely different too.
I like to think I'm adding to the theme, in my own quirky fashion, rather than just copying verbatim what's gone before and I'm sure you'll do the same in creating a different take on things. I'll be very excited to see what you come up with, mate. From that pic it already looks excellent.
In actual fact, you'll take the pressure off me for those who ask if I'll ever make a 16x version, which I'd love to, but realistically will never have the time...without lottery help.
Have fun, Squid and let me know when you have something launched and I'll do my best to feature it immediately in my OP...that's if I'm not away convalescing after this next update!
Thank you so much for the encouragement and offer for advertising ! This means so much to me and I thank you again! Unfortunately 'Steamy' won't be out for a while; I'm finishing about 2-4 textures a day but I plan to complete the whole pack before uploading so It might be a while thanks again and continue your awesome work!

I wish you a lot of luck with a workload like that, SunWukong. I've always had more than enough problems just advancing and maintaining the one mod pack. Makes my eye's fair water just to think about the task you've set yourself.
They sound very interesting projects too, in respect of them being such defined periods. It makes me think you're kind of putting together the 'Civilisation' version of Minecraft theme packs...now there's an idea for someone who wants a little project for the next few years!
It's quite staggering to think of the amount of work, ideas, inspiration, etc. that Minecraft has set in motion.
I shall keep an eye out for when you launch something. Again, the best of luck.

Take you're time. Lol! 2-4 textures a day sounds about my speed actually.
It's only when you get down to the task of making textures yourself, especially for those seemingly small and insignificant little square terrain textures, that you realize how much time and effort is expended in getting the look you want in game.
Just keep at it though...the satisfaction of seeing your Minecraft world just how you want it is worth the effort.
Glimmar you really seam like a stand up guy, I like that. I know right now I am supporting and using Ozbillo's pack, but I really must say that steampunk intrigues me more and more everyday. The beautiful mechanical nature of everything is cool.
I have done some textures to support Ozbillo but I would like to try my hand at some steampunk stuff.
Since I have all my psd templates set up for Buildcraft pipes and WRCBE maybe take a shot at it and see what you all think.
If that interests you guys?
I guess I am soo not interested in doing a whole pack right now, just too much on my plate. But doing some mod support to help others is cool with me.
Something about being rushed to finish something that rips all the fun out of it.

We'd LOVE to have more help retexturing mods. I know that we have some Buildcraft support, (although it is probably a bit out of date by now), but we could always use more alternates. Also, we don't have any WRCBE support yet, so that would always be helpful. The more mods the merrier.
2 things to say.
1. Thank you so much for doing this. You've helped me fulfill some of my steampunk fantasies, and I enjoy minecraft a lot more because of this texture pack.
2. I am however, having issues with the text in minecraft. I have the most recent versions of minecraft, your texture pack, and MCpatcher. Everything in game is fine, except for the text. I can barely read most of it, because the letters get fragmented. Is this a known bug?
Thanks a ton.

As ksheep says, we'd love to have more help re-texturing as many of those wonderful mods out there as possible. ksheep, coordinates all the mod texture side of things for me (so thankfully I can concentrate on advancing and updating the texture pack itself...which is my concern).
If you need confirmation on anything, give sheep a shout first, as he knows infinitely more about the mod side of things. Also, there are some tedious but necessary conditions for using my textures in the mod section in my OP. Anyways, apart from that, we'd be very happy for any help, which will certainly be music to anyone using my pack.

Welcome to the forums, lordofthemagicspoon.
1. Many thanks indeed.
2. I'm not aware of there being a bug with the HD font in version 5 of my pack. I'm currently working on and using my version 6 with a new bolder font I made myself. However, the spacing in that, which was perfect under earlier versions of the weekly Minecraft snapshots has since got very cramped. I've commented in kahr's thread about that problem, but didn't get a reply to confirm if it was just temporary until after MC 1.3 is launched. I'm hoping so, or soon after the big day I will have to spend some time re-spacing all my font characters.
To be honest, I'm not aware of there being a known bug with the old v5 font, which a number of other packs also use. However, I've noticed that fonts in other packs also seem to be suffering problems with spacing with the latest snapshots and MC Patcher...so I still hold out hope the problem is temporary and is to do with MC Patcher. I've just skipped back to v5 of my pack to test and, apart from spacing issues, I'm not experiencing any fragmentation. I can only assume it's some other factor causing your font problem.
It's not as pretty, and it will effect spacing on some of my guis, but you could temporarily remove the font from the pack and allow the default Minecraft version to become active again. Using 7zip or another archiver, locate the 'font' folder in my zip file. Copy the 'default.png' and 'default.properties' files in there to a safe location (drag and drop copies is the easiest way), then delete the namesakes of those files in the font folder.
Sorry I don't have a quick solution, but I'm hoping both our problems will be solved by a future version of MC Patcher.
New snapshot, no new textures. Looks like they're just adding a few last-minute features and tweaks. I'd give them one more week, maybe two before releasing the full update. Think you'll be ready by then?

Well, I'm coming to an end on the new creative all-items inventory gui. I didn't anticipate those four files would take quite so long to get working together, but I'm nearly there...took me an entire week in the end and it's still not finished, but it's more than usable and I'm hoping folk will understand why it took so long.
I'm still worried about my new font's spacing, which will need attention unless I can get some confirmation from others that their font spacing has been effected too. I'm very busy this weekend again, mostly with family, but any spare time I have before upload will probably be spent on just staring mindlessly at the villager skins. I've worked on so many areas, going back and forth looking at things in game to compare, that I'm really feeling burned out now. I'm sure it was worse for you with exams.
Just like before Christmas, this time of year gets a bit hectic. Coming to the end of the summer term here in the UK and planning holidays, ferrying family members around for check-ups, exams, working on the house and just plain 'work' has got me exhausted. There was so much I'd wanted to get done on the pack to push it on another stage, but my mind has just gone blank at the moment and it's got me frustrated when I start critically looking over what I've done so far.
If I can get some basic human villager skins made in time I'll feel better about things. It'll give me a basis on which to randommob the villagers into many variations...different coloured costumes, various tools, gadgets and items about their person, etc. Also, a range of servile automaton villagers of different shapes and sizes would make each village a little more interesting. It would have been nice if Jeb had made the design of village buildings editable, like the old 'ruins' mod was, but I better not go looking for even more work to do.
Hello i am going to be working on a adventure map i would like to use your texture pack, and may i modify and replace some of the textures if i give your credit for it. I will give you a link to it if i ever get the time to finish it.

Glimmar's terms and conditions clearly state that you cannot distribute this pack, in part or in whole. However, you are allowed to recommend this pack in your adventure map thread, and edited textures can be posted directly on this thread. Sorry if this inconveniences you, but Glim has had a hard time in the past with people stealing his work and not giving proper credit. Best of luck!
This here is the not-so-colourful "rainbow" horse from Chocolatin's BetterDungeons mod. As you can see, we removed its saccharine-swet MLP-inspired lollipop look for something more befitting.
Create a new folder under your texture pack titled "bdimg" and insert the following file there: http://db.tt/zkKIbA5i

Looks good, but you may want to re-align the rivets on the neck. Not sure if you were going for a single line down the center (a riveting mane?) or a line down each side, but it looks like it's only on the right-hand side at the moment…
I really love your work glimmar, but could you make the villagers look like humans? I love the iron golemns, but my villagers in my castles look horrendously out of place...

Glimmar is currently working on this, and he plans to have more humanoid villagers in the next version of the pack. Check back in a couple weeks, he's planing on releasing it then, or after 1.3 comes out (whichever comes first).
