I'm very grateful to you for hosting, sheep. It helped calm a period of mass hysteria over my choice of filesharing sites! However, it was a bit cheeky of me just forgetting you were acting as host.
Not a problem at all. I had forgotten about it myself until I started looking at updating the mod pack and I saw that on there. Still need to track down all the latest stuff for it, and I've got some summer classes that just started today, so that'll be a bit of a time drain.
I was rather surprised at the stats when I saw them, tho. However, it looks as though about three-quarters of the downloads are of the 32x… you may need to drum up the interest in the 64x version, with it's soon-to-be-added unique features (I'm pretty sure you mentioned something like that, right?) Anyway, I'm rambling again… Just thought I'd check in and give a few suggestions
I still wish to change, left over from earlier times when very kind folk donated skins, etc. to fill in the gaps for my slow progress. Little by little, with my own work, it gets moulded into something more akin to how I first envisaged it. There's a lot of new things to look forward to in my next update, bringing me a little closer to that quirky vision.
As a person who is currently learning the ropes of texturing, I see so much truth in this.
Ive had a few people provide textures (The most prominent would be TheHoboHunted) and while I greatly appreciate the donations, I always have somethingId like to tweak to fit my vision. Sometimes though they are completely amazing and I love them.
Putting together a pick pixel by pixel is painfully slow and sometimes annoying but when I load up the game and see my own "quirky vision" actually there, I can't help but smile
P.S. Ive been meaning to say this but it keeps escaping me. Thank you Glimmar for always responding to people's posts. From what Ive seen, you reply to nearly every single comment you get (plus your incredibly friendly about it) and I really appreciate it. Its something you rarely get from people
EDIT: I might not ever make another post considering what my status is now

Yes, I noticed that the 32x was still way more popular, and I'm assuming that's down to folk minimising lag as much as possible by going for the the lower res animated water and terrain.
I know this is not very scientific, but judging by how long it takes to switch between texture packs in my Minecraft TP folder, there seems to be very little difference between the x32 and x64 Glimmar's Steampunk, wereas some other x32 packs load fairly quickly. I can only assume the presence of x64 guis and mobs (which also make up the x32 pack) makes a real difference when the game loads or switches to either pack. I just wonder how much effect the x64 mob, guis and HD font have on those with less powerful setups, even when they choose the lower res version.
It's too late to change to a lower res for guis, etc for the x32 version as I've invested too much time in terms of detail and animation now to be able to work on converting them to fully x32 scale, and I'm more inclined to experiment towards higher res terrain and definately to higher res items (items are just so much easier to make at x64).
Hah! I'm not sure how much interest I can drum up for any new x64 textures I've done, there's one or two terrain textures as an experiment, but they don't altogether mix perfectly with the rest being x32, each shows the other's weakness! There's a few more animated terrain textures at x64 and more items both stationary and animated at the higher res, and they work fine in an x32 environment in my opinion. It's just the terrain that would require a lot of extra careful work to convert to x64 without creating moire/pixel hell! I'm warming to the idea though.
It's all a question of balancing priorities, between finishing the rest of the pack, introducing animation were it's effective, incorporating CTM features were it works...and I like the random side of that feature a lot! I wish there was more space than just the one 'random.png' sheet, as I think I could easily fill it! New Mojang updates and MC Patcher features are constantly being added, so with limited time it doesn't leave a lot spare for fully converting the higher res version of the pack to full x64. I don't have time for polls or long term plans, so for sanity's sake I just work where inspiration and necessity take me. It's important not to burn out or make the Minecraft experience a chore, and I'm not getting much building time in, so I'm getting a little anxious about that!

Haha! I was going to bed, but after you mentioned I usually respond to every post, I'd feel guilty if I left it 'till the morrow!
People have been very generous with their time over the past couple of years, yourself included just recently, but as you've also discovered, there are many things that don't always quite fit your own vision, but you're grateful nonetheless because, others appreciate having something now and not later. That's what we're all lounging around here in the Texture Pack section for though, and it is a fantastic melting pot of different world views and on a never before seen scale for video gaming or any other leisure/hobby activity other than perhaps model making and miniature fantasy and historical battle figures.
Notch not only created a unique game with vanilla Minecraft, but by design or accident, made it possible for people to tinker with it to their heart and imaginations desire, and once you start, it's incredibly satisfying and compelling. Where else can you see the fruits of your labour so instantaneously and on such an epic world changing scale?!!
Lol! I'm old fashioned (so perfect for this theme, eh?) so find it difficult not to respond politely, and sometimes too passionately if I think someone isn't understanding the reason for something, but it's probably also my downfall. I'm not good at managing my time, so probably need to be less polite and more brief and curt around here, then I might get on top of this pack and my world of Newglim!
Hah! I missed my 'Meaning of Life' 42 moment...to my eternal regret. Savour it while it lasts, mate...for it will be brief and the meaning of life will be drowned out by the all encompassing 'pressures of life'!
Right, I'm definitely off to bed now! ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
PS. I may also not be around for the next few days, as it's half term holidays here, which is always mad busy and any tiny bit of spare time I get will be spent on finishing stuff off...then uploading some proof of work pics.

Have fun with everyone there, I hope they don't drive you TOO crazy. Here's hoping that you get some time to yourself to unwind, build some stuff on your world, and just take your time. Speaking of your world, how's that skyscraper going? I caught a glimpse of it in that video the others week, and it looked like it was still only halfway done. Has that been put on the backburner while you work on other projects?
In other news, I tried out the Hack/Mine mod compilation from the Techinic Launcher. Not sure whether it needs Steampunkification, as it is aimed more at adventure and not construction, but if we do decide to work on retexturizing it, there is a LOT that needs to be done. Luckily, it comes pre-installed with an alternate texturepack, which could be used as a guideline for what needs to be done.
Congratulations! I found your mod attractive enough worth looking at, and while I am using my own Roburcraft texture pack (it's a private-use, invitation-only skinpack) I found this worthy enough to be used in my own skinpack. I however will not be overlaying what I have, I instead will be creating support for Railcraft using this skinpack.

In other news, I noticed that I hadn't played on my Dome Island world in… some time. Not since 1.1, by the looks of it, and even then I hadn't played it much. Been much too busy with the Tekkit server and retexturing mods. Well, I decided to revisit it and added a few new things. I hadn't really played with Vanilla Minecraft recently, so there were a few surprises, and I put some of these new items to good use (Tekkit had, until recently, been using 1.1, so I hadn't played with any of the 1.2.X features). I noticed that I had a lot of spare room in the Foundry, so I added a cart system connected to the borehole and made an ore storage tank, linked up with the smelter. See pics below.
Ore Tank and Piping to smelter
Inside the storage tank. As you can see, the mine has a mix of coal and iron, with small amounts of gold, redstone, and lapis. Also, lots of tailings.
View through the portholes. Better keep an eye on the tank, don't want it to overflow!
Work benches, for the laborers to turn the newly refined metal into usable goods of the highest quality.
Minecarts coming from the mine.
The borehole, with multiple levels being worked on. Steam-elevator whisks workers and mine carts to and fro in relative comfort (for a mine).

Along with appropriate credit, please give a clearly visible/prominent link back to my 'Glimmar's Steampunk' texture pack thread on the Minecraft Forums, at all times.
Do not give permission to anyone else to use or re-distribute my textures...permission must always be sought from the original artist, namely 'Glimmar' on the Minecraft Forums. Please make this clear along with the credit and the link, so that if your work/thread is abandoned, it will be clear that permission is always needed from Glimmar before others can make use of any borrowed material.

Please will somebody re-make my mine craft skin in the same style as the texture pack.
I tried my self but I can't do it very well. Thanks. http://imgur.com/v8gp6
Hi, SteamPunk_rebel. Welcome to the forums.
If you look in the Downloads Section in my OP on the first page, you should see an 'extras' download. If you download this file, you'll find quite a few steampunk skins in there, perhaps one of those will be close enough until someone else comes up with something for you.
That was good advice Glimmar but none are close to my skin, and they are not as HD as the skins on your texture pack so I will wait and see if anyone will me me a custom one. Thanks anyway
Unfortunately, Minecraft doesn't allow for the uploading of HD skins to the server, so even if someone DID make a high-rez version, you would only be able to see it when playing off-line. Hope this helps!
No probs and glad you like the pack. Hope you'll like it even more when my next update is ready.
As ksheep says, it's not possible to see anything other than x16 (default) sized character skins, unless you play off-line.
@ksheep I think I've cracked my MediaFire problems before even switching providers. I figured out a work around without having to use proxy servers, etc. that bypasses my ISP. It's also now officially confirmed that TalkTalk are blocking MediaFire. Both parties stating this is so. Grrr!
I'll let you know when I've switched over, but I'm stuck working on something else this minute. Assuming my solution holds up!
My MediaFire woes seem to be over at the moment. I've managed to successfully upload version 5 of the pack to my account and the links are in my OP now, so fingers crossed, when version 6 is ready, I'll be able to make it accessible on the de facto sharing site.
Many, many thanks to ksheep for hosting it for me this past month.

Once again, not a problem. Good to hear you've got it working again. I know how much you dislike handing control of your pack to others.
So, I finally got around to adding something I'd been meaning to add to the dome island: Waterwheels! That's right, not one, but two water wheels, utilizing excess water spilling out of the water storage tank on one side of the dome, these wheels power a pump which… pumps… water… back into the storage tank… Is this some sort of perpetual motion machine or something? Anyway, pics below.
If you look on the OP, under the part that says "Mod Support", you will find that there are some mod textures made by various volunteers. I've been in charge of coordinating and updating this, although I haven't updated it in a while due to RL issues.
Hmm, not everything is complete, but at least there is plenty of material to go by. Tell you what, you can rest easy because I can do what is still not complete. There seems a mighty bunch of stuff that can be worked on there.

Thanks for volunteering! Don't feel pressured to rush through it, go at your own pace, and don't forget to share. We can always use new volunteers.
I know that there's a fair bit of stuff left to do on several of the mods, especially RailCraft. I had been working on it before finals, but I never got around to any of the various powered rails, and I was working off of an older version of RC. I still haven't gotten around to looking at all the mods we've started on to make sure they have up-to-date textures, even if it's just placeholders.

I have some ideas on what I wish to do for Railcraft, as regards to changing it from a modern 20th century electronically run system to something more thematically appropriate - I won't be revealing them to public, both you and Glimmar will be receiving the files via private messaging.
Well, with the new snapshot (which doesn't add any new textures by the looks of it), Jeb mentioned that the team was working towards finalizing 1.3. When asked for more details, he said that they were focusing on performance and stability now, and to expect no sooner than 2-3 weeks. So… a fair chance of 1.3 coming out by the end of the month. Does that give you enough time to finish off the new textures?
Are we waiting for 1.3... Glim?
My brain requers more steampunkish stuff than usual these days :{
He is currently trying to finish up v6 of the pack, complete with all the various new features of the snapshots. However, he has been busy with RL stuff and said he might not have it done until after the official release…
Texture Packs Coming on Curse Client - Want to Help?
Are you a texture pack maker, and want to reach a larger audience with better organization? Want to get free stuff for trying out a new system? We've got something that might interest you - Curse Client beta will support any texture packs that do not require patching (such as MCPatcher) for one-click installation. All you have to do is upload their texture pack to dev.bukkit.org, and it will appear in our Client!

I have some ideas on what I wish to do for Railcraft, as regards to changing it from a modern 20th century electronically run system to something more thematically appropriate - I won't be revealing them to public, both you and Glimmar will be receiving the files via private messaging.
He is currently trying to finish up v6 of the pack, complete with all the various new features of the snapshots. However, he has been busy with RL stuff and said he might not have it done until after the official release…
