Hey all! Sorry for not being on recently, haven't had internet. Looking at what's going on, looks like they are working on an Emerald block, for decoration/storage purposes, as stated above. However, Jeb is also thinking of removing the Emerald ore altogether after everyone saying "It's too rare, it's rarer than Diamond" etc. This may not be a final decision, but it was discussed on his Twitter. So… I'd suggest not putting too much work on the Emerald Ore, it may disappear by Thursday.
Just thought Id drop by sense it has been a while.
Real life and Diablo 3 had me totally forget about all the textures I had been doing but Im back now and almost ready to release a rather large update. Hopefully by tomorrow at most I will have the following things textured completely
-Kaos's Add-On for BTW
-Simply Horses
-DoggyTalents
-Magicats
-And update for BTW items (might not be complete)
Got about 85% of this already done and literally have photoshop open working on the others right now.
P.S. Hey Glimmar, do you have any item alts? Just wondering because while some items I make are about 99% me I almost always use your item textures as a "base" to start with.
You're a busy chap.
Haha, I'm saving up my spare time to get Diablo 3 when my eldest gets back from uni! If I did anything now I might forget to update here.
Regarding items, sorry mate, I haven't anything spare really. As most items are isometric with the accompanying difficulties that comes with pixel art I kind of make them when I have to. Also I'm trying to add animation to more of my items and finding I'm better off working at x64 scale, but it doesn't leave a lot of time for alt textures. In fact I'm thinking of making all the items x64 as I don't think upscaling items causes lag in the same way as x64 terrain...though I'd be interested to hear some scientific thinking behind my assumptions.
Trying to concentrate on the new Minecraft updates hasn't given me much time to produce many gadgety alts either. Though as previously mentioned, I've accumulated a lot of self generated retro machine parts that just need whipping up into x32 blocks. I need the dust to settle on the 1.3 update to have a 'machine block spree'!

Lol! Isn't it always the way?!
The emerald ore block was the first thing I did yesterday! Logically I thought, "Do the ore first, and then make a gemstone item to match!" Oh well, if it does get taken out I'll use the rather nice texture to make a new diamond ore block with some kind of animation perhaps. I'm hoping it won't get taken out though, as there seems to be a counter-petition here: http://www.minecraft...n/page__st__360 to keep the block in.
I can't see the sense in taking it out. I understand it's not exactly necessary for the economics of trading, but being 'Mine'craft, I would expect that one of the fun things about the survival aspect of the game, would be discovering shiny jewels and the like when mining. Also to take the ore out, kind of beggars the question, "Where the heck do the villagers get these gems from? Some passing Enderman caravan...thin air?" Keeping the ore in makes sense to the existence of emeralds. It might also explain why the ore is so rare, as villagers (or someone else) already mined all the stuff out...which is why it's so commonly used as currency. We definately need more twinkly rare things to find in the depths (or heights), not less!

Anyone hazarding a guess on ETA of 1.3 yet?
There is no planned date as of yet, so… who knows.
However, there has been a hint of something new for this next snapshot: tripwires. Looks like you place two "hooks" on walls/floors, and then place string on the blocks between them. When you step on the string, it breaks, triggering a redstone signal. You may want to think about how you want to texture it.

Yes, I saw the tripwire, but wasn't sure if it was vanilla or mod. Looks great to me and immediately suggested something along the lines (no pun intended) of copper electrodes. I'll have to dig through google to see what I'm on about.
It also made me wish we had the facility to string wires up all over the place. Great for rigging on ships and grand projects, but probably massively subject to attacks of the moire, and probably not possible on the scale I would like to see it used! It also probably wouldn't look right unless it was subject to gravity, ie, curving under it's own weight the longer it was stretched. Nice to muse over possibilities. I speak of these things and haven't even tried the 'zipwire' mod.

Dinnerbone was saying how you don't have to string it on the ground, and they can be "floating", but it's more difficult to place it, and the wire is difficult to see when not right next to it, looking straight at it. I think the Zipline mod would be better for rigging.

Yes, zipline not zipwire (lol, can't even give mods their correct name!). Is it even possible to use the zipline like that!!? I'd always assumed it was a bit like a grappling hook...a kind of single line affair that, once you've zipped down, needs setting up again. I think I need to investigate more mods.

Not entirely sure, as I haven't played with it, but I'm fairly certain that the rope for Zipline stays there, you just need to have a handlebar to zip down it. Also, I think it allows for rope bridges, and that the rope can either be laid out block by block or via a grappling arrow. Then again, this is all from some fuzzy recollection of a video I saw a while back…
I think this is a very nice pack indeed, but for some reason I think the cobblestone has far too little contrast with everything else. Otherwise nothing is wrong with it.

Jeez, do I know it. School night + Diablo 3 + making textures on the side does not a restful Jester make!
And thats too bad about the item alts. I figured as much since you probably would have put them up if you had them but I was hoping anyway.
Really looking forward to a "machine block spree" though

Many thanks, glad you generally seem to like the pack.
The cobblestone is intentionally the way it is, simply because to heighten the contrast would result in awful pixellation at distance, and large scale building is what this pack is primarily about.
That's not to say, when time permits, that I don't often trial new types of cobble, but none work so well for roads, pillars and walls, etc (architecturally capped with stone for realism). Without a shadow of a doubt, I have spent more time working on the cobblestone than the next 5 most heavily worked on textures put together and I'm very happy it works well for what it was intended.
Mossy cobble, however, has been made slightly more contrasting for the next update.

I'm looking forward to some relaxing down time making machine alts. Much more relaxing than trying to shoe horn a texture onto a mob, dream up a gui or make a block tile perfectly.
Telling everyone not to spend their life looking for it, will have exactly the opposite effect for millions. We are humans, we are descended from a long line of hunter gathers. Finding and discovering things is the purpose of our life. In the process of surviving in Minecraft, there's nothing more exciting than finding sparkly things in the dark. Much as I hate to say it, I'd love to see a lot more precious and semi-precious stones and ores included, even if they have no other use than for decoration or as a trophy count.
Looks like Tekkit 3.0.3 is out, bringing Tekkit up to 1.2.5 of Minecraft. Tested it out and noticed that there were a LOT of missing textures for some of the mods (i.e. Railcraft, RedPower, etc) that need work. I'll try to work on these when I have some time, but still trying to find a job ¬_¬

Ill try my best to help with anything I can, but I'm also currently looking for a job.
Also I've been compelled to try some H.G. wells since this pack was inspired by him and jules verne, im not sure what else I could say about it but yeah.
Best of wishes with life and everything in between, ~Green

I guess that makes sense, and looking at it, I should really try to build something big sometime, so I have started a new world just for that

Thanks, of the few mod items that you have textured I have loved the textures, Also good luck on job hunting.
PS: can't wait to see what you do with the Sonic Screwdriver from Red Power

Just want to let you know that not all of the mod work is mine, I'm just compiling it. I had done most of the Buildcraft and Railcraft stuff, and dabbled with IC2 and Redpower, but most of the Redpower and IC2 stuff that was done, as well as the other mods, were retextured by other volunteers. I do hope to finish the RailCraft stuff soon, and I'll need to check to see if there's anything new for Buildcraft, and I will be contacting the other retexturers soon to see if they have anything new to share. I should also see what version I have up, as I think I may have finished some new things since the last update, back before things got crazy at school.
EDIT: Ah yes, there is a new set of items from Lady Eternity (I think that's her name) that I hadn't added in yet. I was holding off on those due to my busy schedule, but once things calm down, I'll be sure to add those.

I believe Greenleaf (who had posted above) did most of the RedPower work, among other things. You should thank him for that side of things
Ok will do.
Thank you Greenleaf and all the other mod texture makers.
