The easiest thing to do for you would be to NOT use MCPatcher. Glimmar's pack does not make use any of the things MCP can do that Optifine can not (yet.) Therefore, since optifine is a standalone mod, instead of program based, I suggest you use that instead. I myself and an avid user of optifine. It far exceeds the abilities of MCP in everything but minor texture pack details that few creators actually bother with (to my knowledge). Most of these features are soon to be implemented as well.
Also, thinks for saying MultiMC. I currently use the "messing with .bat files" technique xD
i use optifine always...i cant run minecraft without it...so if im using optifine i can just throw the texture pack in the texture pack folder..and everything will be ok?
Just a little advance notice to say I'm currently uploading a little movie to youtube, 'Glimmar's Steampunk v6 Taster - Part 1'. As it's a HD vid, it's taking quite some time, especially with my ridiculous ISP, but hopefully I'll be able to link it in here today and it should wet your appetite for what's to come.
I'm still adding in little extras to the next update and at the same time working on 'Glimmar's Steampunk v6 Taster - Part 2', so, once again, apologies for the delay. It takes a long time to co-ordinate things when trying to be a Jack-of-all-Trades!
I am sorry for my laziness as I haven't done any new textures for the portal gun or clay soldiers :/
there you go not as good as I hoped it to be but I hope you like it...
Awesome, mate.
I'm including your comment and Steampunk Santa skin in my vid post here, then it doesn't get lost above. Wish it was Christmas again!
Anyways:
Glimmar's Steampunk v6 Taster Movie - Part 1
Watch in as high a resolution as possible.
Here as promised is 'part 1' of a series of movie teasers showing version 6 of my texture pack (by the way, 'UberGaffer' is my youtube alter ego :D).
Besides a little peek into my city of NewGlim, New v6 changes covered in this vid include:
New book gui.
New 'easier to read on signs' Font.
animated Redstone Dust item.
animated Eye of Ender item.
animated 'enchant gui'.
animated 'furnace gui'...on the way to being completely Glimmarised!
All new grass texture and a sneakpeak at some of the new CTM random grass textures.
New HD cloud textures.
You won't notice it much in this vid, but the Stone texture has been edited and a CTM random element to stone has also been added.
New animated Boat (would be nice if the sound could actually be in-game).
Easier to read 'brass' letters on signs.
New Iron Ore.
New Coal.
Better defined Mossy Cobble.
More to show in the next vid!
v6 WIP Changelog
Glimmar's Steampunk v6 for Minecraft v1.2.5+
The old 'extras' download is now back in the main pack again. I had a little time to prune the extras' down to textures that were still relevant and to update with some new alts. I decided it would be simpler to maintain if everything was together again. Sadly, I tended to ignore it as a seperate download.
If your machine will stand it, there is definately more reason to choose the x64 pack. Most of the new animations included in this update have been made at x64 scale and do look finer in the x64 pack. Also I may be adding more x64 terrain blocks and items in the future, as the fancy takes me...so keep a look-out!
All particles in particles.png have now been made hi-rez in both x32 and x64 packs.
New animated paddle-less steampunk boat. Until I get round to animating some type of paddle wheel, I have removed the unsatisfactory stationary wheel texture and designed things to be a little more ambiguous as to the method of propulsion. The boat is still powered by steam which drives something, but that 'something' is hidden from view under the water, though you see animated spinning cogs in the boat.
The old paddle boat and some new alts are in the new 'alternative textures' folder in the pack. However, please note, alternative boat designs will not match the new boat animations, so it may be necessary to put up with moving parts not quite matching, or remove the 'boat ....... properties' files from the 'anim' folder in the pack.
New boat icon on the item sheet to reflect changes to the boat texture.
New cog animations to all three Iron Golem designs. Have fun finding them!
New Iron Golem4 with animated cogs, counter and arcane electrical eye.
Fixed a line of missing pixels on the top of the Iron Golem heads.
New animated Eye of Ender item (x64 version worth checking out in the x64 pack).
New animated Eye of Ender on the End Portal Frame (again better x64 version).
New animated Redstone Dust. A little free .gif I found and adapted for the purposes of this pack.
New clouds.png texture.
Tweaked the sky colour to fit the new clouds.
New animated Redstone Ore (courtesy of Lady Eternity and Proudfoot).
New animated Gold Ore (courtesy of Lady Eternity and Proudfoot).
New Book item.
New Pen and Book item.
New Book gui.
The new 'book' gui required a whole new font designing. Letter size and spacing for the old Berylium font meant that the book pages only looked half filled by the time you'd used up your quota of letters for each page.
New font - put together by my own fair hand and dullard brain! Much kudos to Nuin for his excel spreadsheet that takes the grind out of calculating letter spacing. Even so, this took up a couple of spare days to find an appropriate font and squeeze it into a 1024x1024 grid...and I thought animation was tedious!
As the new font is more spacious, the labels on all my new guis needed reworking...wasting yet more time that I'd hoped to spend on animation.
Sign text now has a shiny brass coloured look to it. Text is generally bolder and coupled with 'brass lettering' is much more noticeable. I intend to add slight shadow to text so that sign lettering looks even more brass-like.
Edited the sign item to reflect the change of sign letter colouring.
New container.png gui. Otherwise known as the chest interior. I designed a system of pull-out brass specimen drawers, with a flip-up active menu. The idea was to have something in-keeping with my own recent guis, that would clearly display items, along with a greater 3-dimensional feel.
Edited the achievement 'bg.png' gui. Upped the resolution to x1024 for editing in the future and added a brass label in-keeping with new gui style.
Edited the 'alchemy.png' gui. Increased length and changed position of brass labels to accomodate new font size.
Edited the 'allitems.png' gui with a new brass label, in-keeping with general style of new guis and new font size.
Extensively edited the 'crafting.png' gui with new longer brass labels, new grungy brass inventory to better show items and tidied up placement and shading of textures throughout. reworked the crafting box and added green animated fog to the centre. Also increased resolution to 1024x1024.
Extensively edited the 'furnace.png' gui with new brass labels, new brass inventory, repositioned various elements, original was out of line in many areas. Improved shading, tidied things up and increased resolution to x1024 for further editing in future. Added new elements, plus: animated valve, animated fuel spark ignition, counter, centrefuge and will no doubt add more animated Steampunk features as time allows.
Edited the 'enchant.png' gui - increased length and changed position of brass labels to accomodate new font size. Included a new animated valve/tungsten bulb and an animated counter (both at the top of the gui).
New 64x alt terrain textures in the 'alt' folder, courtesy of Lady Eternity and Proudfoot.
Connected Textures* support for Optifine, courtesy of Demi Person. This is only to prevent Optifine reverting to default Minecraft textures for glass, etc., it does not give true Connected textures, as I feel these are not necessary for my glass, sandstone and bookshelves. My sandstone is already connected, glass is supposed to be structural (so I don't want great gaps) and my 'chemist drawer' bookshelves would look silly as wide drawers.
New MC Patcher CTM support - random grass features, random plant types, limited random stone texture.
All new grass.
Edited the stone again.
New coal ore.
New iron ore. Now possible to use the iron ore for building purposes in 'creative'
Edited the edible mushroom.
The sound samples in this movie do not represent in-game sounds using my (Glimmar's) Steampunk texture pack... this is a movie and appropriately atmospheric sounds have been copiously used to enhance the setting and your viewing pleasure.
Animated textures, such as guis, skins, items and terrain features are exactly as depicted in the movie (aside from standard video transitions of course). 'MC Patcher' is necessary to activate animations.
HD on this was not as expected...sorry. Will see if I can re-render this to a better quality. Perhaps I'm expecting too much of youtube, but my original is at 1080p definition and barring some lag from Fraps, looked crisp. Rendered in 'Premiere Pro' and would appreciate any advice on rendering settings.
As long-winded as making movies is, it's great fun seeing the finishing touches after adding sound and music. I don't have much time to create stories or adventures on top of everything else, but setting a scene and creating a mood that everyone puts their own interpretation on, is very satisfying.
I was a bit confused about the purpose of the movie, because it seemed to show off certain parts of your newglim world and not what's to come except for a few things like the furnace GUI and the eye of ender. But all in all it was good, and I was wondering have you though of adding your own language, like a Steampunk style of words kind of like the pirate but steampunky.

Haha! Thanks Green.
Check the list for the changes featured in the vid, and it's only part 1...more to come...well at least one more! With the little time I have, I thought it might be more useful to make the vids show-piece style, so I can use them in the OP, beyond just the initial purpose of showing the changes made for the next update.
As regards a steampunk language file, it's never really appealed to me to make the pack more confusing than it already is, lol! Besides, as mentioned above, given endless time, I'd probably have a tinker with that side of things, but too many other areas of interest require attention first, and of course I'd like to get back to more serious building, as that's what keeps me interested in improving textures.
A couple of people have begun work in the past on language files and I'm sure I had a semi-completed file in the 'extras' download. Also, it was talked about recently if I recall.

I haven't been on the forum as much as I used to be so I've probably missed those. and Ill check the extras to see if I find it I might look into working on it but not completely sure.
I've been working with a lot of abstract art on Photoshop that's why I haven't made anything for the pack in a while, but I do miss it.
so i installed it are there any add ons for IC2,buildcraft,redpower,railcraft,thaumcraft2...i think there but weere do i download em and put em..
Don't forget there's a growing Mod Section in my OP and that's much more up-to-date than the 'extras' download. ksheep looks after that side of things, but he's currently in the middle of exams. In addition, over the last few pages JesterMailMan89 has been doing some wonderful mod re-textures using my alts and his own work. When he can, I'm sure sheep will update with all the recent mod textures.
There are instructions for use along with the mod support download. So your first port of call is the Mod section in my OP, then trawl back over the last few pages.

Actually, I'm done with exams as of last week. Problem is, I'm in limbo. Not quite sure where I'm to spend summer break, and as such I have no computer set up. Also applying to various jobs and whatnot, so things are kinda hectic. Hopefully things will settle down in the next couple of weeks.

Hope everything went well, sheep and best of luck with the job hunting, but make sure to have a good break too.
I don't think Ive ever been as excited for a texture pack update as right now! I can't wait!
I was actually much more interested in your world than the tp the first time I watched, I really hope I can stick to a world long enough these days that I can make something that epic. As for the tp, I love everything that you added! Well, except for the iron ore Im afraid. I can't really judge based on a brief glimpse in a movie but I think it would be a little hard to see when spelunking. Thats my only issue though, everything else is amazing! And the red orb in your first slot, what is that? The redstone dust? I couldn't really tell.
I hope this comes out soon can't wait!
P.S. Did we get more alts? Id like more stuff to play around with while doing textures!

Thanks for the encouraging comment.
Yep, the spinning orb is redstone dust.
I made the iron ore that way to provide for another useful texture for building purposes in creative...makes for nice columns, etc. Similarly with the coal. It stands out surprisingly well when spelunking or flying by at speed. The more easily recognisable shiny metal veins glitter quite well. I was getting a little tired of the cartoony orange crystals.
The next update will also have animated redstone and diamond ore, kindly provided by Lady Eternity and Proudfoot. I'm not sure how long I will use those versions before making my own. The terrain.png file is somewhat sacrosanct to me, but the textures were so nice I thought everyone would like to see them in the pack...at least for a while.
I didn't have time to specifically do more alts, but I'm sitting on a wealth of retrotech textures I've been toying with, so when I get the chance, I'll have a session making more useful ambiguous square panels, machinary and such, that can be used for mod textures. As I don't have to worry about tiling issues with those textures, unlike stone, grass and cobble, etc., they're a pleasure to do.
If I get the next video done in time, you'll see more to wet your apetite. As you'll know, making vids...especially editing sounds and bits of footage in, is flippin' time consuming, but I felt it was worth the effort.
having a bit of an issue. when ever I try to play using this TP the game crashes. when I install the patch it works fine but as soon as I set this as the TP and try to open the choose world menu it crashes. I am currently running IC2, BC 3.x, RP2, and a few minor mods. please help

As long-winded as making movies is, it's great fun seeing the finishing touches after adding sound and music. I don't have much time to create stories or adventures on top of everything else, but setting a scene and creating a mood that everyone puts their own interpretation on, is very satisfying.
