Hey, Glimm, your texture pack was featured in a "Texture Pack Profile Review" by the crew that does the weekly news videos on the forum. They ranked it along with a couple of the more popular "Realism" packs, with only JohnSmith's and LB Photo Realism getting higher scores. Here's a .
Well, got some good news and some bad news. Good news, I just realized why the sides of the pipes don't show the separator like I thought they would. Bad news is that this means I'll have to adjust every single pipe texture, all 30 of them, by nudging four sections of each over 1 pixel. *Sigh*
Guess I should go to class first, worry about this after I'm done. At least I noticed that it was off. A cookie to anyone else who can notice why! Oh, and just to give you a sporting chance, here's what I have so far for that texture sheet.
EDIT: Just for the fun of it, here's a log of where the textures come from: Pipe Structure: Glass alt, with edges moved to make shape of pipe. Recolored for various pipe types. Mining Pipe, Quarry Pipe, Quarry Frame: Utilized mesh texture, adjusted like pipe structure. Slowsand/glowstone alt added behind the two pipes, and center section from another Glowstone alt added to mining pipe. Mining Machine, Quarry, Pump: Almost all taken straight from alts. Some recoloring, superimposing metal behind glass texture, and underside of pump added fiddly bit copied from side of pump. Pump Pipe: Slightly modified mesh alt. Liquid Tank: Modified mesh texture Waterproofing: Added by hand, single color accent around "glass", noise added, copied to complete set. Conductive Pipe Accent: Red iron block alt, cut down to the right shape and copied. Landmark, Path Marker: Base taken from piston on alt wooden door, light taken from alt diamond, recolored for path marker.
All in all, I think I'm about a third of the way done with this. Still need to find appropriate alts for the architect's table, various builders, the pipe gates, and the laser (as well as figure out what some of those other things are), but all in all, it looks like it's coming along quite nicely.
Very nice, I would love to help with any of the technicpack textures since I love playing with that mod pack.
Also mo' creatures is not going so well since Im so angry at it so Im putting it off until I can get some real time to work on it.
Glimmar, I'm completely obsessed with your "Difference Engine", which is a marvel of strange and apparently useless Victorian weirdness. It's glorious. I've made a version of my own, sadly it's static as I'm completely clueless as to the working of redstone, though I think it looks cool. In my world It's "connected" to an antenna array holding a crystal on top of an old church tower, and is calculating evil plans. Or something.
If anyone knows how I can get it whirring and chattering automatically, please get in touch.
Here's a link to Glimmar's superb machine on YouTube, so you can see the sort of action I have in mind.
I believe that Glimmar just slapped stuff down to make it "look like it did something"… and then it started doing something. The redstone is set up in such a way that it's being told to be both on and off at the same time, making it flip randomly between the two until it burns out (the hissing sound), but after a while of "cool down", it starts back up again. I'd suggest just placing redstone, redstone torches, and repeaters at random until it starts acting up. If you can, try to copy the design seen in the video, I'm fairly sure you can see all angles from that.

I would love the help. I'm currently working on Buildcraft, Railcraft, and Weapons, and there was already a start at IC2 (although it doesn't looks like that's been touched in a while). Feel free to work on any of the other mods. Also, if we want to collaborate on any mod, or possibly the theme as a whole, I'd say either message me on here or post your progress on here (as I've been doing) and I'll be sure to offer input. Anyone is welcome to give me advice as well.

Ill start to work on redpower 2 and computercraft, and Ill post my progress on here tomorrow
I like the way it looks, but the problem of making the cakes, beds, etc. into these awesome machines, is that when i use them as such on the server everyone else sees it as out of place.
Just been busy trying to put stuff together for a presence on Planet Minecraft. Until you start doing things like that, you don't realize how much stuff needs to be gathered together. Here's a new title plate I put together for here and there:
Thanks for all your posts and the hard work your putting into mod support for this texture pack, I'll have to check them tomorrow as I've got other work to finish off...Thanks guys. flip! I need some sleep pretty bad!
I need to edit that title plate tomorrow as I forgot to shave off extra space at the bottom!

Nice, like the new title plaque!
In other news, I decided to edit the tank a bit. Thought that the storage section could use a bit of a rusty look, what with it constantly holding water or other liquids. Also darkened the silver supports, trying to get it a bit closer to an iron look. Pics below.
Please let me know what you think. Who prefers this over the other style?
I don't know why but I find the Ocelot's expression priceless.
I dunno if it's smug or really happy about something only it knows or what.
Maybe it's hiding something.
It's thinking, "Groan...I hate zombies. Geroff me!". Glad you like.
Here's an updated title plate for the pack, top of the thread and hopefully my new Planet Minecraft page. Now with an airship and trimmed to size to better fill the space on a page:
I need to find time to edit my OP somewhat, as I don't find the new forum post editor very easy to use on the scale of all the pics and spoilers I have up there. Having pics display in the editor all the time instead of urls and code makes it very difficult to edit and swap and change stuff around.
I will go back and comment on all the mod work you guys are doing, but from a quick glance it all looks exciting. Not being at all familiar with most mods, I may be the worst person to judge whether something looks appropriate or not, but they look great to me, and you're undoubtedly going to be providing some very sought after add-ons here. However, please let ksheep and others know what you think along with suggestions to help
I better get back to my own editing for this blessed PM submission. Then I will come back and pickup on everyone's posts.

It sounds like your having a fun time and a frustrating time with that mod, but it looks good to me, mate. Let me know if there's something that's not in my alts that might prove useful for certain mods and I'll keep it in mind when I'm tinkering with stuff.

Haha! That's cool and a very fair set of reviews I thought. I certainly don't mind being beaten by either John Smith or Scuttles, both are nice guys and well deserving of the top spot.

Hi Badger79.
You and I share the same level of expertise with redstone circuitry. ksheep speaks the truth when he says my machine was discovered by accident. At the time it came to life it scared the proverbial pants off me. You can picture the scene, working quietly alone in a carved out chamber with the intention of making a kind of Frankenstein bed of wires, repeaters, redstone torches, etc. just to make it 'look' like Victorian tech. When all of a sudden, my arrangement of redstone bits and pieces suddenly started rattling away!! It really was genuinely frightening, as I have a tendency to work late at night, so all the more dramatic. Knowing nothing but the very basics of...lever-redstone-redstone torch, throw lever, light switches on...and that's all. I can just about figure that the repeaters can alter the speed of a reaction to throwing a lever, and that's my limit.
I still haven't had chance to copy the contraption into another location yet, but it was always my intention to place it in airships, ocean going ships and see if it was possible to make some vast factory. It's still busy rattling away now and when I pass, it still catches me off guard.
You can rest assured nothing is hidden from view, but I did find that just removing one red torch could make the difference in the thing working or not working. I still haven't a clue what's going on, but for me that's what makes it all the more mysterious.
If I can get hold of a working version of MCedit I'd look into trying to save a schematic of it.
I believe that Glimmar just slapped stuff down to make it "look like it did something"… and then it started doing something. Finding out that it was possible to get something to make a hissing sound, like steam, was the best bit about.
It's just amazing that a game allows for almost 'art installation' type experimentation. Truly wonderful!
Sheep, didn't you make a contraption too? I seem to recall seeing a window that allowed you to look inside a rectangular box stucture with all the working gubbins inside.
All credits goes to Glimmar.
Thanks for this great texture pack!
*EDIT*: Made a little tweaking on the removers back texture. DL link updated.
I'm glad you like the pack, Mordus and more so that it's inspired you to use some of the alts for the above. That looks very nicely done indeed.
I must say, it feels a bit like Christmas at the moment, with a whole load of intriguing new toys to play with. If ksheep can find the time to compile/co-ordinate all of these mods into a growing collection, it would just be fantastic for this theme pack. All I can say is keep up the good work everyone and very well done.
PS. If I saw anything that I felt could do with a little extra shading, would you mind me having a go? Just tell me to 'push off' if not!
Thanks for the reply. I gathered that's what Glimmar had done, and it's what I'm doing too - but Glimmar's just seems to work so beautifully - it's a perfect storm of glitchy random behaviour. I'm going to try to copy his design from the video - all angles are covered, you're right, so here goes! I just hope nothing's hidden underground!
Thanks again.
I hope you'll show us any discoveries or design, because, despite my lack of know-how, that side of things really does intrigue me, especially with it's potential to create amazing effects to compliment the theme.
I like the way it looks, but the problem of making the cakes, beds, etc. into these awesome machines, is that when i use them as such on the server everyone else sees it as out of place.
I can understand that. I'm glad you like the pack, though, and at least you understand why I like the bed, pumpkin and cake the way they are for single player creative building.
If I get the time, like the 'green world' alt textures I've put in the pack, I'm intending including a more 'normal' world alt folder with a terrain.png and items.png file with an ordinary victorian bed, natural pumpkin and items, etc. But there's still a number of other things taking priority.
When i make this i didnt realise there's a mod supporting fever around here. Just wanted to play with this great mod with my favourite texture pack.
To the point, i'm not much of a texture artist myself. (Look at my pack ) But i gladly help to make support for mods, from your awesome textures. As i can handle editing programs good enough.
PS: Neph would like to link the textures in his mods OP. Is it ok with you Glimmar?
(Sorry for my english, its not my native. )
Your English is probably better than mine.
You did fine with the mod above and don't knock your texture pack. I love the tones you've gone for and the industrial theme of course appeals to me. I think it's much harder to make a 16x pack than 32x so keep at it.
I have no problems with Neph linking to the mod textures here.
I was just about to tackle on to retexturing some clay soldiers, and then checking the forum for any changes in the old skins etc., I found out the mod has been updated and a LOT more stuff has been added... nice.
long time ago I made these. derpiest portal gun ever? I could try making a less derpy version and to make fitting textures for the whole portal gun mod after finishing clay soldiers
I also made the johann krauss armor a bit earlier than those two, and a steampunk iron man skin
Hi Dazqo.
I'm sure I included your portal gun, johann krauss armour and the steampunk iron man skin in my 'extras' download. I think time began to slip away from me about when you uploaded the clay soldiers textures for the pack and I'm not sure if they got included, but I always intended to start cataloguing everything. Then Minecraft got a lot busier with updates and with limited time I had to concentrate on trying to keep the pack afloat.
So I'm glad ksheep and other regular supporters here might be willing to finish off some of those mods folk have long been asking for.
Hey Glimmar if i was to convert your texturepack so that it can be used for the minecraft pocket edition would it be ok if i make it avaliable on my thread, including a link to this thread, as well as credit to you for the pack creation.
Are you starting a collection of pocket edition texture packs in your thread? Perhaps similar to the 'Texture Pack Central'? I would imagine you're asking other texture pack artists too? An idea like that would be interesting, but would have to be run on a free to use basis for me to consider it. Have you got the thread set up at present, maces006, then I can see how you're operating?
[edit] never mind, I googled the subject and got your thread first time. I like the way you are operating this, as you aren't adf'lying each pack, which is what initially concerned me. So long as you don't charge for my pack or individually link my pack to an adf.ly earner, then I'm happy for it to be converted, provided you link back to my thread and credit at all times. I reckon pocket edition texture packs will potentially become quite a little earner for some. So personally, I would be keen for someone like yourself to keep offering them for free here on the Minecraft Forums, within the spirit that all texture packs have so far been made.
I take it you would have no objection to me putting up a link here, back to your thread (when my pack is converted of course) so that users here are aware that a pocket edition version is available?
Would you let me know when it's ready? Best of luck converting some of my more esoteric designs.
Mistakenly repeated a post...anyway to remove it folks with all the new forum bells and whistles?
Can't see any easy way to remove posts… but I did find out how to switch off the "show pictures during editing" mode. Upper left corner is a lightswitch button labeled "Toggle Editing Mode". Hit that and it should fix that.
Slight problem i've been having.... I'm using Optifine smooth for this pack, and the glass and glass panes as well as sandstone appear to be the regular minecraft texture.
sounds like you have the Connected Textures option on, which Glimmar's pack doesn't support yet
That does look like an interesting feature. Hard to decide between MCPatcher and Optifine now… and I bet this is just as big of a problem for Glimmar. Hard to keep up with normal updates and MCPatcher without throwing Optifine changes into the mix as well.
EDIT: Started work on the High Speed Rail for Railcraft. Thoughts?
Top: High Speed Rail
Middle: Powered High Speed Booster
Bottom: Unpowered High Speed Booster
Still haven't added the curved rail, as that'll be a bit more of a challenge. Will probably require some drastic retexturing, if not new textures from scratch.
Very nice, I would love to help with any of the technicpack textures since I love playing with that mod pack.
