I finished them but wasn't too hard. I did do 3 of them but the more robotic one is just a slightly darker teal then the other, 1 is just a darker color of the first one an the other is supposed to be a robotic slime. Also Im not sure if you see it but i took the screenshot on a computer with a messed up graphics card which makes black, green.
I feel like they need to work on them, tell me what should be changed or if you like them like this :smile.gif:
Just wanted to say that this texture packs absolutely amazing! I actually have been avoiding it ever since i got the game in alpha because I thought it was simply to weird looking but upon ACTUALLY looking at, say about a year and a half of initially seeing it, it I think it is now my favorite texture pack ever! Ive always loved the machine - clunkedy - steam theme and I love how it works with Minecraft through your texture pack! I have only one small request, may you put up your world of NewGlim for download? I think it looks absolutely amazing and very expansive and Id like to go through it myself using this texture pack if I could. Other than that thank you for all your effort and devotion to this pack over the year(s)!
JesterMailMan
P.S. Its disappointing most people on youtube don't use this pack on a regular basis, wish i could see more examples of what this pack could do in a long running series, maybe ill do some series myself who knows! :wink.gif:

I'm not sure about the others, until I see them in the flesh as it where.
Gestankfaust's slime was made at the equivalent of 32x resolution (128x64 pixels). Don't feel limited by that scale if you want more pixels to mess around with. I tend to use the equivalent of 64x res for most of my mobs now. So if you want to add-in a bit more detail, taking it up to 256x128 pixels then feel free, but don't feel pressured.
Having the higher res would help for the super giant slimes. That was the problem I had with the lava mob...as a giant it scales up the pixels too and what might look ok as a tiny mob does tend to lose out when magnified, in my opinion.

Very many thanks, JesterMailMan89. Those are very encouraging words indeed. I prefer it when people 'discover' the pack like that.
I'm also the first to admit that it's not the best pack in the world for building cosy little medieval villages. My focus has always been on making textures that work for massive building projects with the minimum of tiling issues, using textures that are as multi-various in their usefulness for the fantastic.
I've always prefered the creative aspects of Minecraft, and liking fantasy and science fiction, steampunk seemed a natural theme to develop, as it merges nicely with the tech side of the game, whilst allowing great freedom of expression on the building side.
Unfortunately for me...but I'm not complaining...the majority of new and young users are first attracted by the adventure and survival aspects of Minecraft and then, if fortunate enough to have high-end machines, they move onto HD texture packs that comfortably work with what they're used to. So my pack often gets overlooked.
However, bearing in mind my RL circumstances, I'm not sure I could handle great popularity, nor would it sit happily with my personality. So I'm happy for it to be discovered from time to time by discerning individuals such as yourself. :smile.gif:
As regards my own world build of 'Newglim' it's still very much a place where I relax and dream epic dreams of a vast steampunk city, where I wander like some 'I Am Legend' character...the last survivor of a zombie apocalypse. :blink.gif: So I'm not quite ready to give it up for public scrutiny just yet...as selfish as that may be. I also still have ambitions to make a few video tours of it before I retire.
I like the idea behind the robotic slime, _Greenleaf_.

Ill try it out with a 64x pixels. Also the blobs of engine oil is a awesome idea. But im going to mess around with the 256x128 for now and see how it looks. thanks.
one more thing you can just call me green/greenleaf no need to add the underscores they are there because the name greenleaf is already taken
Glimmar, any ideas for what you're going to do with the iron golems? Possibly make them look like laputa from castle in the sky?
Oops! Sorry I nearly missed this by already answering some previous posts and then getting flung to the next page. :smile.gif:
Well I'm hoping to finish off the 64x (water, lava, etc) version of the pack today. Then I'll properly start on the iron golem.
As regards what it will be, I'm really not sure. I tend not to like basing it on any one particular character, as there's too much of a temptation to simply cut'n'paste ideas that way. I tend to fiddle with the shape we get given and see what comes of fitting bits and pieces of steampunk textures I've built up over the months and see what starts to appear. That way I think something more original comes out of the effort which is more satisfying for me. However, the shape and movement of the mob created by Mojang will always influence how it's perceived.
I must admit I'm more looking foward to working on the iron golem than I am to eventually working on the dragon.

But im going to mess around with the 256x128 for now and see how it looks. thanks. one more thing you can just call me green/greenleaf no need to add the underscores they are there because the name greenleaf is already taken
Haha! Will do, Greenleaf. :biggrin.gif:
By the way, is anyone else finding the forums very slow and unreliable at the moment? :sad.gif:
Since we have green alts for the lava to match the green flames, how about an alt for the flame itself to match the default lava?
It'd still make sense since the green on the torch can be glass around the flame, making the light green.
Funnily enough, I actually did the exact opposite with the previous version. :tongue.gif:
Lol! Yes, if anyone complains about the obsidian and bedrock again, I've got you to blame :tongue.gif:
As regards the flame coming out of the gaslamp torch and lava, that's what I will be working on. If you look in the 'alternate stuff' folder in the pack you should find another folder called 'alts for a standard illuminated world - WIP'. I referred to it in my v3.7 changelog as something I'm working on. It will take a little longer, because a few other things need changing, like the green furnace animation, amber gaslamp, new amber 'lightmap0' and color balancing etc. but felt I needed to prioritise on getting the update out in time for the 1.2 update. The folder was included as a placeholder reminder for me.
So it will hopefully be in the next update along with the iron golem. So there will be two packs, 32x and 64x (water, lava, etc) and in each will be an alternative folder to convert each pack to an all 'green lit' world or all 'amber lit' standard world. :smile.gif:
Frustratingly, the only thing I can't change yet for the 'green' world are the lava drips, they remain hard-coded red until kahr provides an option to change the color in MC Patcher. The only thing that can be done there is for me to provide a 'particles.png' file minus the 'drip' particle to remove the lava drip altogether, but you'd have to live without the water drip too. :sad.gif:
Well I finished with the 64 pixel slimes, the first picture here is the darker of the original slime to make it so there isn't one of each type, robotic/original slime.
This next one is the lighter color of the robotic slime,
and the darker of the robotic slime.
Tell me if there should be any changes or it is good how it is :smile.gif:
I am getting a spark or two of creativity. So I downloaded the most awesomest pack ever to build a bit. Not sure where the spark will send me....but...
My original idea for the slime, was to have a person trapped inside. I chose to go with cogs and such instead cause it made more since for steamery. I also say the new squid like mob redone from my original. I think it's too Sci-Fi for the pack....but that's just my opinion.
Hoping to do some work and add to the awesomeasity that is "Glimmar's Steampunk" once again.
Also, I was sick of the default Zeppelin textures in my otherwise steampunk-looking world, so I used the alts to make textures for the Zeppelin mod. Nothing special, just some of Glimmar's alts pasted into correctly-named images for the convenience of the less-technically-talented of us. I take no credit for either the mod or the images.
To install, just unzip it and drag the folder called "Zeppelin" into the texture pack.
Download
If this is somehow against the rules, I can always take it down. Just figured I'd share it within this thread.
Gotta say, I love the pack, especially the new cats. The sheets of extras and link to the Texture Mix Machine is a nice touch, too.
I've had 1 small problem with the newest update, though
Looks like zombie8 and zombie9 are based off of the villager template instead of the zombie one.
I love this texture pack, you are very talented. A true pleasure to use.
I would like permission to use your textures to create support for Better Than Wolves.
Also, where do you get the inspiration for those epic constructions?

Nice work.
I still like the engine slime edit best as something original.
I hope Faust doesn't mind his original being edited. As long as it's within this thread I would imagine that fine fellow would be happy.

Sparks of creativity are good for the soul, mate.
It's great to see you about and getting the urge to build and such again. Speaking of which:
Awesome building and always a good time of the evening to take an atmospheric pic or 10! I hope to see much more work and many more pics from you, Faust. Now we have randommobs as standard, there's no end to the creative steampunkery.
Have you started work again on those excellent packs of your own?
I always find the forums slow and unreliable but i think that is Curse's problem
It's just I was having some problems with my anti-virus and browser software, requiring a complete re-install, but even so, as you say I think it's a Curse problem. I've always been in the habit of copying everything I type, as insurance against the regular server slowdowns!
Love the update! Also, I was sick of the default Zeppelin textures in my otherwise steampunk-looking world, so I used the alts to make textures for the Zeppelin mod. No, I don't mind, so long as it's in this thread...that's what the alts are for really, yes for personal use and ok if uploaded back here.
Oh, when will I get the time to trawl back through the thread to update the 'extras' download? This would be a perfect addition with all the other stuff (currently lying dormant) as an extra for the pack. It goes without saying any work would be properly credited.
Gotta say, I love the pack, especially the new cats. What a twit I am! I uploaded the wrong flippin' update on Sunday. Gah!
Thanks for alerting me, Demi-Person. Glad you like the pack too.
The very reason I was so late uploading that day, was because I was having exactly the same problem with garbled zombie8 and 9 and spent the best part of Sunday trying to figure what was wrong my zip file, even thinking RandomMobs must be corrupting them, then the penny dropped that I'd mistakenly used a villager mob as the basis for my edits. So made the necessary corrections...as seen by the pics of 'zombie8' and 'zombie9' in my changelog.
By which time my desktop had multiple versions of my pack ready for upload, but I was absolutely certain I was uploading the one with the de-villagerised versions of those mobs...but obviously not. How frustrating!
You all have my sincere apologies. Give me a little while to finish off the 64x version that I promised and I'll hopefully upload the correct version of both today. I made some other little corrections too, so they will be in.
I love this texture pack, you are very talented. A true pleasure to use.I would like permission to use your textures to create support for Better Than Wolves. Also, where do you get the inspiration for those epic constructions?
Glad you like the pack, thank you.
As mentioned above, feel free to use my textures for personal use or to upload edits, etc., back here for everyone to share in.
As regards the inspiration for my constructions. I just try to apply 'real world' building principles with a bit of imagination and my love of both real and imaginary epic architecture.
So arches, tops of windows, and so on, have to look like they are properly supported by 'lintels', girders or it doesn't look right. Even with an untrained eye we can all spot something that doesn't look right if, say for example, we try to build a bridge out of nothing but a straight run of cobble. Unsupported it would look like it should collapse. So I try to imagine everything I build as having real gravitational forces acting on it, so the final construction looks solid and believable. It's for this reason my stone isn't textured to look like rougher cobble. I want it to have some texture, but I also want to be able to use it like concrete or long horizontal blocks of stone that look convincing when they bridge two or more columns.
I also enjoy looking at pics of real buildings of all ages and styles to see what's possible.
Here's what I worked on late last night, instead of the iron golem. I fancied testing out the new higher building limit by building a brick skyscraper...early days yet:
I think I might do 2-3 of them so get ready for some awesomeness :biggrin.gif:
