Hey Glimmar, just wanted to say you're doing a kickass job, especially considering your family issues and lack of time and everything else working against you...
I stopped using texture packs for a while, then when I saw how much has changed I had to come back. How do I celebrate coming back to the best steampunk pack? By building a massive Zeppelin warship, twice the size of my last one, with a working bomb bay, broadside cannons, multiple decks, and showing off how much the textures have changed.
I call her HMS Dreadnaught Mk.1. I'm going to be making a video tour, but here's some screens:
Under construction in the shipyards:
Showing the iron on the engines and the wool armor (?):
The stern. I tried flying it using the Zeppelin Mod, but since it's 9 times bigger than the mod's intended for I get literally 1 FPS...
The bridge, with the Zeppelin controller block:
Bomb bay, deploying bombs, and how the redstone repeaters above them work. Note the dispensers on the walls, they're broadside cannons loaded with arrows. When 1.2 arrives the arrows will be replaced with fireballs:
Crew quarters. Much roomier than the first Zeppelin!
Something else that's different, I took the time to add the gas envelopes:
The upper turret (which can be climbed into) and Miranda's Abbey:
HMS Dreadnaught VS automaton villagers:
Showing the sun and brickwork in Miranda's Abbey. I know the textures haven't changed much, but the sunset looks purdy :3
And finally, the HMS Dreadnaught sailing off into her maiden voyage as the moon rises:
PS- During construction, there was a malfunction while testing the bomb mechanism. Half the bombs stayed in the bay, and when one detonated too close, they all went. The lesson: Only use helium in airships, if it was hydrogen this wouldn't exist anymore!
Can I please have the map? and if it's in survival can you please change it to creative, anyway, Glimmar, I love the diamond pick + pumpkin. I can now play as a bad dentist who can't see anything and has a drill.

The lava looks nice as it is, but can we get a hi-res version of the green alt please?
I'm rubbish at remembering to do things like that, and I'm sure I've probably promised many times to do so...right were's me 'to do' list? :smile.gif:
I still want to make a 'green' (lava, etc) and 'amber' (normal) version of the pack, but I'm not sure how best to do this along with 32x, 64x and 128x water, etc. (pack downloads). For sanity's sake I may drop back to just a 32x version, but include 64x and 128x components in the pack with instructions on how to swap between the different resolutions and colours.
Any thoughts folks?
Yes, I know the 'Minecraft Customiser' would be a better option, but for me it's just not a viable option with the way RL is playing at the mo', though my youngest son, who's going through his exams at the moment has suggested he might look into carrying on work on the account I started there.
Crap, I completely forgot to ask him. I hadn't actually thought of it because the texture was mostly a personal temp fix for now.If you want to use it though, I probably should ask him.
Knowing Faust, but not wishing to presume, I don't think he'd object in the slightest, especially if they are only being re-used within this thread. If included in the Randomobs I'd still list who assembled it (you) and who made the original textures. I didn't mean to worry you. :smile.gif:
You know, I think there's a certain advantage to this theme, as re-using individual components from different mobs and including my other alternate textures, really fits my idea of steampunk and RandomMobs makes that cobbled together machine-look possible.
Also, you said you were a little unsure on the bookshelf particles. I have an idea.Replace the cogs and things with pieces of paper with writing on them and files. Almost like the enchant table is absorbing knowledge from the filing cabinets (I actually like the filing cabinets, kinda like they're filled with steampunk-ish blueprints for big things)and what of the particles for the cogs and things you ask? Simple. Use them for the XPorb texture, it'd make lots of sense being dropped by mechanical things and it'll look great when they all look different. Sure the organic mobs would drop them too but there are only 3 of them (I think) and the cogs would look great as XP.
There's some really good ideas there.
Without some experimentation I'm not sure how well cogs'n'stuff would work as experience orbs, but when I've time I'll see what they look like. :smile.gif:

I'm not sure if you caught my reply to your post asking for permission to use my texture pack in your adventure. Absolutely no problem with you uploading pics and vids etc. in your thread if you credit me and link back to my thread here, however, just to be clear, I didn't give permission for my pack to be downloaded from within your thread along with your adventure map.
So that folk only ever get the most up-to-date version and see other stuff that's important with regard to how the pack is used on the Minecraft Forums, currently I specify in my licence that distribution of this pack is exclusive to these Forums and specifically within this thread.
Please direct folk to download the pack from this thread. Many thanks. :smile.gif:
Hey Glimmer i jest wanted to say this but if you ask me the new lamps already look steampunk to me. Still it could be improved though
Haha! Thanks, mate. I'm still unclear what the implications of the new redstone lighting will be and indeed how it will work with MC Patcher's custom colors and custom lighting.
I've just been experimenting with the Minecraft snapshot 12w07a, but haven't had the chance to check the news or look into if the redstone changes are already in there.
Incidentally, If I manage to finish off a good jungle tree log variant I'll upload a working 1.2 version of the pack for all you 'snapshot' hungry folk to try out. I'm trying to come up with a log that's as useful as can be for the theme, but still works as a jungle/rainforest tree trunk.
However, the most exciting thing for me was testing that it really was possible to build up way higher into the sky...which it was...and the awesomeness of that is just beginning to sink in! for Jeb. :smile.gif:
Good idea, but I'm not really good at texturing things.selecting parts and recolouring are as far as I go :PHowever, if I get permission from Faust to use his squid texture and Glimmar wants to use it for random mobs, he can add the rust if he wants to.
Heehee! It could be another little variant. The possibilities are endless...which leads me to the question: does anyone know if there's a limit to the number of randommobs that can be included in a texture pack? Obviously if I included thousands whithin the pack it would make the download a little large, but that could be overcome by just having a separate collection of steampunk mob downloads.
Thank you for your message in my Thread Sir Glimmar. :DI'm amazed what I'm seeing here! It looks spectacular :Diamond::Diamond: for you! Now that I'm back, this is going into my texture pack folder.
Thanks, mate. :smile.gif:
I'm looking forward to doing the same with your pack when you upload your latest, can't wait to see it...with being away for a few days I better head over and see if it's not already up.
Ok so, I installed the texture pack, and it looked AMAZING. Except for one tiny detail, you see I do have MCPatcher installed and working as we speak, but it still looks like that... Instead of green sparkling waters, I have a message to tell me to install MCPatcher, which I have. Please help.
I can't add anything to what ksheep's already said, but I he's right in saying I've got rid of the rather unhelpful MC Patcher warnings for my next update.
I just need to re-position my MC Patcher warnings in the OP too.
I hope you've managed to sort it now and I'm glad you like the pack...many thanks for saying. :smile.gif:

Spoken to Faust, he's ok with me using his squid textures as part of my own.
The only thing is I need to swap the ends of the abdomen on the texture before I send it here.
Also Glimmar, if you want to add to it and make it even more awesome you can.
Edit: Crap, you know what I've just done?
I forgot to keep a copy of the spider texture and removed the texture pack and downloaded the version with the 32x water textures since I didn't like the hi-res ones.
I'll have to do it all again. Still, at least I'll be able to refine a bit more anyway :tongue.gif:

This should be good fun in looking for something to compliment the glow stone, and what a great update 1.2 will be. More of these for Jeb

When I get a chance I will. :biggrin.gif:
With all the potential that double the world height brings in the Minecraft 1.2 update, it's going to be possible to make some truly awesome constructions, which I'm certainly looking forward to, but it'll all take time. Rest assured, building and eventually making vids is as much a real pleasure for me as working on my texture pack. Not that I'm an expert on the movie side of things.
Cave Spider is done (again).Metal is much darker and the eye isn't as red, more of a red/orange.Of course if Glimmar wants to work his magic on it, then that's up to him.
Very nice work indeed, Deepblue686.
I'll drop it in the next update with proper credit to yourself, it takes the pressure off me for a while and when I get round to making my own I'll keep it as a randommob version.
Thank you very much for sharing your time in this way. :smile.gif:
This is amazing!!!!!!!!! i really like this texture pack it is amazing. I didnt really like texture packs untill i came across this one and it is the only one i am using. Welcome to the forums, MrGoph3r. :smile.gif:
Many thanks for posting and glad you like the pack.
As regards your steampunk city building exploits, just let it grow naturally, extend your roads and rail and look at lots of pics for inspiration and try and use the materials like a real builder would, eg stone lintels, proper arches, supports and struts, etc.
Now we can build to more than twice the height with the 1.2 update you'll really be able to build some epic steampunk constructions.
My own builds came from humble beginnings and just got added to over the months as I tried out different textures for the pack. It might appear larger and more epic in pics and vids than it actually is, but it's proved a good testing ground for over a year and a half now.
Hey Glimmar, for some reason you left out the Cave spider (maybe you don't encounter many forgot they existed?)
So I made a quick fix for myself so I don't see awful default textures.
Screenies here if you want an idea of what you can do with them (instead of simple recolours like default)
Doh, got the ends of the abdomen mixed up.
Anyway, on to the design choices.
The headless thing is kinda taken from yours but I also got inspiration from Misa's Cave spiders.
The abdomen (taken from squid texture) would basically be a big tank to store poison.
The silver colour? Well I figured that real cave spiders would be pale since they don't get out into sunlight. So I figured a silvery (or just grey) metal would symbolize this.
Obviously the real texture by you would be completely original.
I just used a mishmash since it seemed fitting for mechanical horrors.
It's not very good but it's mostly just a temp until you make one.
What if you tinted the red on the abdomen to a blueish color, also i want to make a random mob for this texture pack which mob should I do?
Also Glimmar, what if you did a big project by working on a mod like mo' creatures. That would be great since a lot of people including me use that mod, but thats just a suggestion

Take your pick really. I think there's only the dragon now that's still default, but I'm not tackling that baby until I have some serious leisure time.
No promises that anything or everything will go in the pack, but there's a fair chance it'll look nice in the randommobs and if it's not quite appropriate then eventually it could be added (along with a huge backlog of other stuff) to the extras download.
Also Glimmar, what if you did a big project by working on a mod like mo' creatures. That would be great since a lot of people including me use that mod, but thats just a suggestion
I've always wanted to work on steampunk textures for applicable mods, but RL has never provided me with sufficient time I'm afraid and at this point is even more pressing. First and foremost, I'll only be concentrating on keeping up with Minecraft updates and finishing off the rest of the pack to my liking, before I even consider working on any mods again.

Its ok it was just a suggestion, I'm having some RL troubles right now to so I understand that your focus can't be on this and I think I might make a skeleton random mob texture if you'll accept it.
Hey Glimmar, I have something to ask you about. I've used your texture pack for over a year now and i love it to bits but something keeps happening when i try to play singleplayer or multiplayer with it. When I selected the texture pack and go to play it, it just loads, does a quick flash of the crash screen and then goes pitchblack. I tested it out with a couple other packs and it didn't occur but it still does it with your's.
Any suggestions on what might be the cause? I am using the MC Patcher 2.3.3

Thanks for giving me hope for my city and i think i will one day accomplish the epicness you have achieved.

Hi MechanicalTophat. :smile.gif: Glad you like the pack.
Sorry you're having problems with it at the mo'.
It could be a few things really at issue from what you describe. MC Patcher is now up to version 2.3.3.01 I think...or at least that's the version I'm using while editing stuff for my next update for Minecraft 1.2
MC Patcher 2.3.3 was causing problems for folk. Also my old v3.5 pack was causing problems for Optifine users due to a 'color.properties' file I'd incorrectly edited, but that was fixed in my v3.6 of the pack.
I'm not experiencing any problems with the latest Minecraft snapshot v12w07a and MC Patcher v2.3.3.01, but I'm not certain how backward compatible MC Patcher is when used with older versions of Minecraft if you're still using v1.1. Sorry about the over use of 'version' numbers.
As far as I know Optifine (assuming you may be an Optifine user) is never updated for snapshot versions of Minecraft, so bear that in mind in trying to solve what's causing the problem.
If you can hang on a couple of days I'm going to be updating my pack to be compatible with the latest 1.2 snapshot version of Minecraft and that might bring all the latest versions of MC Patcher, Minecraft and my pack back in line.
If you discover what the problem is in the meantime, please let us know in case others have the same issue. :smile.gif:
:biggrin.gif: Thanks! Those are awesome ideas and i will try to put them to action. When you feel you've got something to show off, let us see some pics.
Yep, that height increase in Minecraft 1.2 is absolutely the best thing about that update. I've been experimenting with the latest snapshot and it really is epic to look at constructions disappearing out of view into the sky. :blink.gif:
Sorry, Hydrothermal. I don't allow use of any of my textures in other packs now, simply because credit and links seem to get lost over time and others pick up abandoned packs with my textures in and assume they are free to use. As this pack is still very much a work in progress, it is only available for personal use, as laid out in my Minecraft licence on page 1.
You are free to use my textures for personal use of course, and feature my texture pack in vids and world build threads (with credit and link back here), but the pack must not be redistributed from any other place than this thread. The reason being is that I prefer folk to have access to the most up-to-date version, which I always upload here, the most current info and reasonably prompt help if things go wrong. There's not a lot I can do when folk include my pack on other websites, but they have nearly always offered out-of-date versions and users are obviously left with the wrong impression.
Can I please have the map? and if it's in survival can you please change it to creative, anyway, Glimmar, I love the diamond pick + pumpkin. I can now play as a bad dentist who can't see anything and has a drill.

(p.s. sorry if i spelled your city wrong)
very nice

Curse PremiumWhen I get a chance I will.
Thanks for asking. :smile.gif:
Very nice work indeed, Deepblue686.
I'll drop it in the next update with proper credit to yourself, it takes the pressure off me for a while and when I get round to making my own I'll keep it as a randommob version.
Thank you very much for sharing your time in this way. :smile.gif:
Thanks so much, IceScream4IceCream. :smile.gif:

Curse PremiumWelcome to the forums, MrGoph3r.
What if you tinted the red on the abdomen to a blueish color, also i want to make a random mob for this texture pack which mob should I do?
Also Glimmar, what if you did a big project by working on a mod like mo' creatures. That would be great since a lot of people including me use that mod, but thats just a suggestion

Curse PremiumTake your pick really.
Thanks mate.
Sorry mate. :sad.gif:
Its ok it was just a suggestion, I'm having some RL troubles right now to so I understand that your focus can't be on this and I think I might make a skeleton random mob texture if you'll accept it.
Any suggestions on what might be the cause? I am using the MC Patcher 2.3.3
:biggrin.gif: Thanks! Those are awesome ideas and i will try to put them to action. And yes, the height upgrade coming will indeed help, because my city is in the mountains, the helium apparatus of an airship is cut off by that annoying limit. Thanks for giving me hope for my city and i think i will one day accomplish the epicness you have achieved.

Curse PremiumThanks, mate. :smile.gif:
Some randommob skeletons would be awesome.
:smile.gif:
When you feel you've got something to show off, let us see some pics.
Yep, that height increase in Minecraft 1.2 is absolutely the best thing about that update. I've been experimenting with the latest snapshot and it really is epic to look at constructions disappearing out of view into the sky. :blink.gif:
Many thanks, layzrfyzt. :smile.gif:
Thanks, mate, you are very welcome. :smile.gif:
