KSheep can you please, please ,please put up a copy of the world that has the awesome dome and tower
I would, but it's a quarter gig. However, I was thinking of using MCEdit (or whatever the equivalent is now) to upload the schematic… once I finish a bit more of it.
EDIT: I might as well add a bit more of my progress. At this rate, it would probably be easier for me to make my own thread about this.
I have (mostly) finished the airport of the city. Now… to make Steampunk skins for the planes mod :tongue.gif:

I'm getting a bit bogged down with real life stuff again, hence my absence, but just wanted to let you know I am still beavering away on stuff for the 1.2 update and getting very excited about 256 height worlds (good old Jeb) and redstone torchlight, and a little scared at the idea of potentially having 'thousands', not a few hundred, blocks to edit!!
Have been working on the following:
New set of saplings.
New iron bars. Less moire...more solidity for tower struts, better tiling.
More compatability with Optifine.
New jungle tree log work, but not finished.
New jungle tree foliage work, but not finished.
More tangled vines for the jungle
New underwatercolor.
New skycolor.
New 'bottle'o'enchanting'.
Tweaked fogcolor.
Started to assemble stuff for the ocelot and initially if I don't have time, will just make color changes for the transition to the various cat types.
Sadly, I really haven't had time to do any more work on new mobs or menus, as my work/family situation is getting fraught and financially I'm now a bit concerned for the future. :sad.gif:
As soon as I've anything that can be considered useable, I'll make an update for those who want to try out the latest weekly Minecraft snapshots.
Thanks for all the nice comments again above and apologies for falling behind instead of catching up on old posts!
[edit] I just noticed I've had more than a million views and missed the magic moment of passing into 7 figures!!
Thanks to all, but mainly to those of you who I'd consider as friends, those who've taken the time to leave encouraging comments, pics, ideas, edited textures, and to those of you who've just been quietly popping in and bumping up the count. Means a lot guys! :smile.gif:

Not sure if I'll have time to do anything amazing this time (if I ever did do anything amazing that is!), probably more just keeping my head above my polluted water. :biggrin.gif:
HAPPY MILLIONTH VIEW, jippii_ja (see my edit in my post above). :smile.gif:
I'm interested to see how you you style the Redstone lamp, having waited for a Redstone block (like Lapis has and Gold etc.), I'm over the moon it's finally released, it just makes it extra cool that it's got a potential of glowing!
Actually, looking at it, it's not so much a block of redstone so much as a modified glowstone. Take a glowstone block and put 4 redstone around it to make a powered one (which, incidentally, gives off more light). Still, looks like it'll be a good addition.
Oh, and Glimmar, sorry to hear about the life issues. I hope everything turns out alright, but I'm sure you can pull through somehow. Stay strong, and don't push yourself too hard.
Hey Glimmer, new snapshot is out. You have already heard of hight and lamps change but what you don't know is there is now villager babes. they are jest smaller versions of the big ones. Jest thought to let you know.
Hey Glimmar, for some reason you left out the Cave spider (maybe you don't encounter many forgot they existed?)
So I made a quick fix for myself so I don't see awful default textures.
Screenies here if you want an idea of what you can do with them (instead of simple recolours like default)
Doh, got the ends of the abdomen mixed up.
Anyway, on to the design choices.
The headless thing is kinda taken from yours but I also got inspiration from Misa's Cave spiders.
The abdomen (taken from squid texture) would basically be a big tank to store poison.
The silver colour? Well I figured that real cave spiders would be pale since they don't get out into sunlight. So I figured a silvery (or just grey) metal would symbolize this.
Obviously the real texture by you would be completely original.
I just used a mishmash since it seemed fitting for mechanical horrors.
It's not very good but it's mostly just a temp until you make one.

On a more serious note: On fear of feeling like repeating myself, as I have to rather hypocritically remind myself of this fact quite often. Happiness and love comes first; everything else comes second. While you are going through these difficult times (as you, like I, see to have been going through for a while) remember your family and friends are more important than anything else. You seem to be a caring man, so I don't see much point in telling you this, but you know, moral support and all that. :smile.gif: But yes, keep on fighting. :smile.gif:
Thanks for the support, Santairo. :smile.gif: Completely agree with you, and yes family always comes first. I'm trying to see this as relaxation, but updates make it seem like work! :biggrin.gif:
I guess everyone is suffering in some way with the economic climate being the way it is. I just have to persuade my other half that working on my texture pack isn't really wasting time, though being my best friend too, she'd never say anything like that. :blink.gif:

And to both, re: the redstone torch. I haven't read anything up on what's planned, I'd just assumed it would be like the normal torch but red. :blink.gif: Lol, but knowing the way Minecraft works (which is very little knowing on my part), nothing is really that simple. I only just noticed the other day that redstone torches give off a little light already...so how's that for being slightly not with it!!
By-the-way love what your doing with your 'dome base world'.
Is it ok if i include this texture pack in a world/adventure map download that im making
Many thanks for asking first, Joshippo, but I'd rather you directed folk to download from my thread as per my licence, rather than redistributing my texture pack, it saves on confusion down the line whenever I update stuff. Also, yes as Santairo says I'd be grateful for the appropriate credit and link back here.
Best of luck with the adventure though. Send me a link/post when finished and I'll add it to some other adventure maps folk have made that I've promised to put in my OP.

Nah, didn't quite forget, but as you say I don't do much spelunking these days so don't bump into the little creepy crawlies often enough to prompt me to do something...especially when faced with all the updates and new things MC Patcher throws out. Just the old song about 'lack of time'.
That cave spider you've put together is awesome, and it's got some of Faust's squid in too...hope he's ok with that! :smile.gif:
If you upload the skin here, I'll include it in the pack until I make my own and then with your permission (and Faust's) thereafter in the RandomMobs for variety. :smile.gif:

Yeah, I didn't hear about this until today, but a quick Wiki search later shows it to be a full block, basically a toggle-able Glowstone block. Looks to be quite useful, and I'm already seeing several uses for it. Honestly, I think you should be able to get by just using one of the alternates you already have for Glowstone (have Glowstone look natural, while the Redstone-powered lantern has a manufactured look).
EDIT: looking at it again, it might not quite be that easy. It looks like it has two textures, a lit one and an unlit one. Still shouldn't be TOO time consuming, but still good to know.
I love the look of this texture pack, i used it a long time ago.Since i admin a modded server i have to use optifine to enable hd textures, any tips on enabling the extra colour u mentioned in op or is that not possible with optifine?also has anyone found any mod textures that go well with steampunk? the only ones i could find are sphax which is just too cartoony for my tastes (and only 128 :sad.gif: ) the mods we use areindustrial craftbuildcraftcomputercraftadditional pipesadvanced machines for ic2hot air ballon (the default textures for that should fit right in :smile.gif: )forestrymultipage chestrailcraftredpower (yeah we run a lot lol, balancing it all was a nightmere!(i deal with the server files as well as admin it lol) thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to reply
I kind of liked a lot about Optifine (all the options, for example), and it's prompted me to upate my iron bars so they moire less from a distance, and I absolutely understand the need for improving lag, but there's still a lot of visual delights MC Patcher introduced that don't quite work as well or not at all.
Your server sounds amazing and looks like it has all the mods I'd love to play with built in too. I just wish I had the time to texture for all the ones you mention. :sad.gif:
I love this texture pack, it's my favorite. The only thing I don't like is that it's outdated, and it's just one simple Item.png edit to make it updated for 1.1 :tongue.gif:
Many thanks, EksCelle. :smile.gif:
Hope you liked the update.
...then it got kind of un-updated rather quickly with all the weekly snapshots for 1.2 :biggrin.gif:
thank you that worked for menow i just need to figure out what i do with the extras zip to get the redpower/ic2/forestry stuff to look steampunky lol
My apologies that all the stuff in the 'extras' does usually require some knowledge of Gimp, etc. to cut and paste alts, and probably any textures for mods that folk have uploaded here, that I've popped in the extras download, are all now out of date.
There's probably enough alts to cobble things together and resubmit here...like d95 did a few days back.
What I'm most looking forward to is the brewing stand interface. I brew a LOT of potions, and own a shop on my server selling the things. And to suddenly see the simple grey window open and the normal potion bottle outlines under the steampunk vials is... well a little jarring to the suspension of disbelief. Blazes next I suppose, I'll be interested to see how they're portrayed in a Steampunk world. Other than that, this is by far and away my favorite texture pack. The obsidian is the only block I don't find attractive. Though that was a quick fix where I 'borrowed' (stole shamelessly) the obsidian block art from another texturepack.I feel it looks a little out of place, like a piece of background than a block of toughened volcanic glass. ...Feels as if I'm being overly negative in this post, I'm not trying to be! I love this texture pack.
Glad you like the pack, Stravagante, and thanks for taking the trouble to say so. Sorry I didn't get time to finish the brewing menu off, but at least it's not default anymore, and now I've started it the inspiration part is on the move. Hope you liked the other things I did. :smile.gif:
THE WATER LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME I LIKE IT DIAMONDS FOR YOU
Lol! Thanks for saying, xLuciferx. :biggrin.gif:
Best part of a month of free time was spent on water, lava, portal and fire animation. I'm not sure I can remember now exactly how I did some things, but I was pretty satisfied with the water in the end, as much because it used the 'still' texture I first made way back in September of 2010.
If I had endless free time to work on the pack I'd probably work on the lava again to try and make a gooier/gloopy version with more layers, but I'd have to be pretty well in the mood as it's mentally and eye-strainingly exhausting.
Maybe an addon for redpower/buildcraft users would increase downloads. All the redpower and buildcraft stuff in steampunk glory... man that would be awesome to see.
It certainly would be awesome, but I think I've repeated often enough that for me it's all a question of not having enough time. If I did...I'd be all over any appropriate techy mods.
Sorry for being an unsociable inactive member for some time Glimmar, I have been rather busy with these damned AS level exams, of which I have probably failed because I have applied the motto 'if it is worth doing, it is worth overdoing' to my laboratory, which has now turned into a complex the size of a town, and which now reaches the height limit of the map. But, now they are other, and I have no need to procrastinate, so I came to download the new pack, which is just as ingenious as the last. But that was very much off the topic of my reply, I was wondering, you have a lot of followers, have you a name for them? I was thinking the 'Glimmering Gentlemen', sound good?
Hah! Indeed...my gentle glimmering ladies and gents! :biggrin.gif:
I hope you haven't failed those AS level exams, mate. Best of luck anyways.
I completely understand how destracting Minecraft can be. What's it going to be like with double the height to work in? Now that's going to be very destracting for me...who can resist tower building with the possibility of seeing your creations disappearing into the heavens!!
I've been using this texture for a while, its very remarkable and resembles a lot of novels i read. i saw the alternative textures, are you planning on making a light and dark version of the texture like Doku and whatnot?
Glad you like the pack, SHADOWHAND1999.
It would be nice to have some variation similar to Doku's light and dark packs, especially as Steampunk can be dark and grungy, but for others can be bright and carnivalesque. It's that lack of time thing again.
Back when I launched a big collection of alts, folk like Faust and ksheep and others produced some alternative 'terrain.png' files using some of the alts and they can be found in the 'extras' download, but they will be way out of date now. With a little bit of patience and little bit of cut'n'paste experience you could bring them up to scratch or make your own variation to upload here in this thread...
glimmar, do you ever plan to take this pack to a higher res than 32x? like maybe try taking this up to a 1080x? that would be the highest rez pack ever if you could keep the game from crashing as soon as you start it up. but really do you plan to make it higher than 32x? or just keep it at the 32x?
Java crashes when you use textures above about 760x so 1080 is impossible I'm afraid. I think this pack works well as a 32x pack as it is designed to make big builds look good and I find graphics any higher can become quite noisy when viewed from far away which kind of breaks a big aspect of this pack.
I'd love to tinker with something at 64x to see what it might look like, but for epic builds I personally still think 32x is just about right. Having said that, have a look at 'TheWOODMan's' texture pack for some modern industrial 64x texture magic. If I didn't texture for myself, his pack would be my pack of choice to build with. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/377173-64x11-thewoodmans-concrete-steel-animated-tools/
Hello Glimmar, thanks for working hard to keep this pack up to date and working on the amazing art that you have done so far. But I have a small request, which, although not as important as some others, I feel would add a bit to the feel. This request is that you design the clock to look a bit more like a clock face, an less like a rotating picture, as I feel that would fit much better with the steampunk aesthetic. Also, I was just wondering if you were thinking of ever changing the gold and diamond armour, perhaps to more regal, and less mechanical. But regardless, I still really appreciate the work you've been doing, and I thank you for putting so much of your time into this!
Thanks for your encouraging comment, Keto888. :smile.gif:
I'm not absolutely sure what you're refering to when you talk about the 'clock'.
As for the gold and diamond armour, I'm still not sure yet what I will do until I get the time to return to that area of the pack. I'll probably lump work on the rest of the armor along with working on villagers when I get the chance.
Sincerely, I regret not keeping up with this TexPack before. It is truly wonderful. Now, I play a few mods here and there, specially ones that places NPCs in the maps. The problem is: there are no sites or places specialized in 32x skins. As hard as I may look, I don't find anything. I wonder if the people around here have or know where I can get skins that matches the level of details of Glimmar's work. Also, anyone made the texture for the enchantment hud? Sorry to bother, thanks for the attention and good luck to all.
Glad you're giving the pack another go, Terrivel_World. :smile.gif:
Hope you liked what I did for the enchantment hud. As regards skins and other missing stuff, sorry I'm still way behind finishing a lot of stuff off. I'll get there eventually... or is that wishful thinking considering how many block ids Jeb is adding to Minecraft. :blink.gif:
...right, I'm sure I've probably missed some comments, for which I apologise. Just ask me again if I did. I'm off for a nap. zzzzz

When you make the skins post it on the forums so we can get it too.

Yeah, that's a mighty big if. However, I did find that one of them already has a Steampunk skin, just need to swap out the others in my nonexistent spare time.
whoat whoa whoa! there is too much going on in minecraft now and i am far too lazy to read on that stuff. and seeing how this is the only tread i follow can someone give a quick update? (but to keep with in the rules, include the what glimmar is doing, he is too busy working on the pack to explain)

At the top of the page, Glimmar gave a pertinent update. The later post was him starting to reply a backlog of questions and comments from the past month or so. So… yeah, you could probably get by just skimming. No new updates, just him saying how things are going.
Hey Glimmar, for some reason you left out the Cave spider (maybe you don't encounter many forgot they existed?)

what abaut adding some rust?
like if its been down in a dark, cold cave for a long time
(sorry for bad grammar)
Ok so, I installed the texture pack, and it looked AMAZING. Except for one tiny detail, you see I do have MCPatcher installed and working as we speak, but it still looks like that... Instead of green sparkling waters, I have a message to tell me to install MCPatcher, which I have. Please help.

What options did you have checked off for MCPatcher? If you don't allow for Animations, you'll get that. This is due to Glimmar's solution to the constant questions of "why isn't this working". Glimmar stated that he might swap those tiles with actual water again at some point, but you should be able to replace it yourself if you have any image editors, or you could just repatch with custom animations checked.
Hey Glimmar, just wanted to say you're doing a kickass job, especially considering your family issues and lack of time and everything else working against you...
I stopped using texture packs for a while, then when I saw how much has changed I had to come back. How do I celebrate coming back to the best steampunk pack? By building a massive Zeppelin warship, twice the size of my last one, with a working bomb bay, broadside cannons, multiple decks, and showing off how much the textures have changed.
I call her HMS Dreadnaught Mk.1. I'm going to be making a video tour, but here's some screens:
Under construction in the shipyards:
Showing the iron on the engines and the wool armor (?):
The stern. I tried flying it using the Zeppelin Mod, but since it's 9 times bigger than the mod's intended for I get literally 1 FPS...
The bridge, with the Zeppelin controller block:
Bomb bay, deploying bombs, and how the redstone repeaters above them work. Note the dispensers on the walls, they're broadside cannons loaded with arrows. When 1.2 arrives the arrows will be replaced with fireballs:
Crew quarters. Much roomier than the first Zeppelin!
Something else that's different, I took the time to add the gas envelopes:
The upper turret (which can be climbed into) and Miranda's Abbey:
HMS Dreadnaught VS automaton villagers:
Showing the sun and brickwork in Miranda's Abbey. I know the textures haven't changed much, but the sunset looks purdy :3
And finally, the HMS Dreadnaught sailing off into her maiden voyage as the moon rises:
PS- During construction, there was a malfunction while testing the bomb mechanism. Half the bombs stayed in the bay, and when one detonated too close, they all went. The lesson: Only use helium in airships, if it was hydrogen this wouldn't exist anymore!
I would, but it's a quarter gig. However, I was thinking of using MCEdit (or whatever the equivalent is now) to upload the schematic… once I finish a bit more of it.

Curse PremiumI kind of liked a lot about Optifine (all the options, for example), and it's prompted me to upate my iron bars so they moire less from a distance, and I absolutely understand the need for improving lag, but there's still a lot of visual delights MC Patcher introduced that don't quite work as well or not at all.
Your server sounds amazing and looks like it has all the mods I'd love to play with built in too. I just wish I had the time to texture for all the ones you mention. :sad.gif:
Many thanks, EksCelle. :smile.gif:
Hope you liked the update.
...then it got kind of un-updated rather quickly with all the weekly snapshots for 1.2 :biggrin.gif:
My apologies that all the stuff in the 'extras' does usually require some knowledge of Gimp, etc. to cut and paste alts, and probably any textures for mods that folk have uploaded here, that I've popped in the extras download, are all now out of date.
There's probably enough alts to cobble things together and resubmit here...like d95 did a few days back.
Many thanks to you, Clicks.
Ooo. :blink.gif: I'd love to see pics of what you did Arcanum-wise.
I don't, mate. I'm very much a lone-ranger kind of builder, but I love seeing what other folk build, especially using my texture pack.
Glad you like the pack, Stravagante, and thanks for taking the trouble to say so. Sorry I didn't get time to finish the brewing menu off, but at least it's not default anymore, and now I've started it the inspiration part is on the move. Hope you liked the other things I did. :smile.gif:
Unless you can cut'n'paste a bit with something like the opensource GIMP or the 'Texture MixMachine' in my OP, there's no easy way. Sorry.
Glad you like 'em. I hope to be working on more if there's time in the future.
It certainly would be awesome, but I think I've repeated often enough that for me it's all a question of not having enough time. If I did...I'd be all over any appropriate techy mods.
Haha! I still prefer MC Patcher myself. :smile.gif:
Thanks, RedArmy_Bushman. Heehe, yeh! That sun of mine looks like a great big peeled orange from underwater. :biggrin.gif:
Your opinion does count, RedAria, and I thank you for making such an encouraging comment.
Thanks for that, FootLongSub. :smile.gif:
LordofSax, says it like it is really...
At the top of the page, Glimmar gave a pertinent update. The later post was him starting to reply a backlog of questions and comments from the past month or so. So… yeah, you could probably get by just skimming. No new updates, just him saying how things are going.
what abaut adding some rust?
like if its been down in a dark, cold cave for a long time
(sorry for bad grammar)
What options did you have checked off for MCPatcher? If you don't allow for Animations, you'll get that. This is due to Glimmar's solution to the constant questions of "why isn't this working". Glimmar stated that he might swap those tiles with actual water again at some point, but you should be able to replace it yourself if you have any image editors, or you could just repatch with custom animations checked.
