As always, I am amazed at the talent (and patience) you have to make these textures. Tried my hand at making textures once and gave up after 10 minutes (though it was pretty late and I was tired).
On the spiders though, would it be possible for all of the spider variants you made to be utilized with the Random Mobs option that comes with HD patcher?

Keep up the great work!
Thanks, DuffmanX18. :smile.gif: That's a very generous comment, mate. :smile.gif:
If it's any consolation, I find it difficult too, but I'm a glutton for punishment I suppose and just keep hammering away at a texture until it's mostly what I'm after. I think all texture artists will agree that some blocks are more difficult than others...so some I find an enjoyable challenge, whilst others make licking sandpaper seem rather attractive! :blink.gif:
Meanwhile...
New Creepers!
Here are a couple more mobs to add to the Random Mobs part of the MC Patcher. To be included in the next update. Hope you like:
New 'Standard Creeper', with brass caterpillar tracks (or should that be Creeperpillar Tracks?!):
New 'Junior Creeper'...who is just a little sad to be so short. :sad.gif: However, don't let that cute little expression fool you, he's no less of a bang than his big brother! :ohmy.gif:
I was wondering why my gold was partially on fire (only a corner) and then this update for the pack made me remember I needed to re-do MCPatcher so it would work. lol
The new spiders and creepers look AMAZING.
Too bad I play on Peaceful so the 'hostile' mobs don't get in the way. Now I will never see them. :c
Before I say this I would like to point out this is not definite, I may be wrong. But I had an urge to look at the ender dragon above ground, so I spawned it in, unlike in the ender, where it flies around, then charges you again and again, never following you. Above ground, this is not the case, the dragon constantly follows you (and attacks you as it is hostile). This got my mind whirring like a steam cog on a light-speed train. Wolves follow you...wolves are tamed...wolves are pets that fight for you...there is a dragon egg in the ender...EGG --> DRAGON --> PET!So Glimmar, I would prepare :tongue.gif:*Edit* Also, that little beastie you have created shall cause me hella problems, I normally only notice creepers heads, their bodies hide behind the dirt! :ohmy.gif:
ho ho! I forgot about mob spawners. Is that actually possible to do that with the dragon and the TooManyItems mob spawner selection? If it is, does it still follow and attack you in Creative?
I imagine having the dragon as a pet will be something a mod will programme in, even if Notch doesn't. All who like fantasy, Minecraft and dragons, probably assumed that if Notch included dragons, we'd be able to tame, breed and possibly ride 'em.
Does anyone remember the 'Creatures' series of games and the DNA aspect of breeding different creatures from a few basic types? Has anyone considered this for Minecraft? It would seem to follow that a game in which we have an almost infinite world, would also have some kind of evolutionary process going on, at least with a few select creatures like dragons. Imagine waiting for an egg to hatch and not knowing what combination of colour, size, shape of beasty would pop out! Prolly asking too much of a game that already has so much.
Haha, I'm sorry about the little creeper, but as I play on creative and all these monsters aren't aggresive (unless you accidently hit one sticking it's nose in) I'm just looking to include machines of all shapes and sizes for believable variety. Lol! I better issue a disclaimer for this pack now. :biggrin.gif:
Just wondering if the creeper has animated bits like some of the rest of the pack? or is that not possible? (For the love of all that's clockwork, i hope it is)
It's not possible, sadly. Though I'm a little pleased there isn't even more work to do on them. Some animations can take a great deal of time and imagination. I imagine on top of everything else it would add to some folk's problems with lag. :sad.gif: However, I agree it would look quite amazing.
That's exactly what I thought about when I saw this little creeper. It looks amazingly cute, but alongside with the fact that creepers make no sound, I think this skin would be too dangerous, for you can never know what is hiding behind a block of dirt. Even if you walk carefully, when you notice them, it usually would be too late to escape.
Sorry, mate! You'll just have to edit 'em out of the pack or play on Creative like me. :smile.gif:
With Glimmar creating these textures...my goodness...it could be the perfect steampunk horror book. Actually, when the minecraft updates become more stable, and when glimmar adds a few more textures to his epic repository, that is what I shall do...a multiplayer horror book, written on actual happenings. Also, another idea, maybe not for a creeper skin, but for any other dangerous day mobs (when/if they arrive) a shadow texture. Maybe not totally invisible, but quite hard to say, except for their actual shadow :tongue.gif:
Oooo! :blink.gif: I like the sound of a steampunk horror book.
I also like that idea for a shadowy Random Mob. As you say, not completely invisible, and as I found with the spider, they don't completely disappear (even when you delete everything), but rather like reverse vampirism, they sort of show up with water in the background and still cast shadows on the ground. However, they'd look a little more interesting with some other visual clues to their existence. A bit hardcore for those playing on survival, but something different, certainly.
I'm sure it's been done before, but just deleting everything from a mob apart from a pair of glowing eye's (like the proverbial Cheshire Cat) would look very creepy down a mine...if it's possible to do it effectively!!
Since becoming a part of MC Patcher (which I kind of now consider part of official Minecraft) Random Mobs has really opened my eye's to alsorts of ideas...most of which are probably not possible...but it's a nice incentive, even long after a stable Minecraft hits the world, to continue dreaming up new stuff that is available to all even those like me who don't tend to use many mods.
I was wondering why my gold was partially on fire (only a corner) and then this update for the pack made me remember I needed to re-do MCPatcher so it would work. lolThe new spiders and creepers look AMAZING.Too bad I play on Peaceful so the 'hostile' mobs don't get in the way. Now I will never see them. :c
Don't forget to try the mobs in Creative. You can have settings all the way up to hard, have all the mobs underfoot and study 'em up close (that's why there's a little flurry of activity from me now) and enjo a bit of civilised company. Sheep and pigs get a bit boring in an industrial world after a while, especially playing on creative.
decided to make some pigzombie variations for the random mobs If any you'd like to have some different pigzombies in the nether... also made a bolted sheep fur skin right after you changed the wool blocks to have bolts, but apparently forgot to post it here or something..Loving all the new stuff you've [email protected] that rivetgun is so awesome & bioshock 2 texturepack would be so cool!offtopic:
I've been considering making an texture pack, but I want to make something that has not been made before. And everything seems to be done or at least wip...I'm building a huge flying ship with fully operational tnt cannons and I've been practicing tnt cannons, so I have autoload cannon, 360 cannons, machinegannon and megacannon in my friend's server, I'll post pics if you are interested
Oh I'll certainly use those pigzombie alts for Random Mobs, Dazqo, thanks! (along with PATR101's zombie edits) :smile.gif:
I'm not sure about the rivetted wool yet, as I still see the wool as being ambiguously stitched cloth for balloons and carpets, and not just rivetted metal panels, but thanks for sharing...it looks amazing and many won't agree with my viewpoint...lol...so when I get's meself organised (haha), it will certainly go in an updated 'extras' folder or a future Minecraft Customiser submission, with your permission and due credit of course.
Definately show us pics of the cannon constructions! I think everyone benefits from ideas and inspiration derived from pics...I know I certainly do. :smile.gif:
It's a good job I can type all this, cos' my throat's absolutely killing me at the mo' I'm afraid I'm going to have to set work on my squid aside and get an early night.
******
I will get an update out soon with all the new stuff, but obviously don't expect everything to be finished, and bearing in mind I'm currently excited about the Random Mobs and animated terrain, the missing gui's, etc. will probably come some time later after I've burned out my inspiration on mobs.
Yeah, it's not a problem ^^ If they cause too much trouble, I think I'll get rid of it. But an idea just popped in my head while writing this post: Is it possible to add some kind of antenna or something on their head? It would make it at least possible to notice them ;P
That's another good idea for variety...absolutely. :smile.gif:
I'll try to have an alternate download for the next update. Sometimes MediaFire can be a little fussy with me too. :sad.gif:
It does it all the time D:<
I just want to download a mod or pack from Mediafire every once in a while. I'll see if it works in a few minutes. Hopefully it will, since my pack's steampunk styled and I want some inspiration from one of the greatest packs in said genre out there. :I
Really like the new alternate mobs, can't wait to try them out. On the topic of the headless Creeper… how about a creeper that is nothing BUT head? Ring the base of the head with an electrical current or some such, say that it's an anti-gravity generator… except it would probably need some rather long pseudo-science name to fit with the steampunk, wouldn't it? The Electro-dynamic Gravitational Oscillator, perhaps?
A little request here - Could you include your alt-texture sheets with the normal download? Thanks in advance (Because this post is likely to get burried)
i may start a bioshock 2 texturepack and the potions will be plasmids, the xp will be adam and hostile mobs will be big daddies and splicers.
im already woring on a few things.
It does it all the time D:'ll see if it works in a few minutes. Hopefully it will, since my pack's steampunk styled and I want some inspiration from one of the greatest packs in said genre out there. :I
Haha, Thanks, EarthApocalypto. :smile.gif:
Keep me posted on your experiences with MediaFire. I know there have been some changes to their front end design, so it may or may not have improved reliability in other areas. I've always used it because it's been easy to upload stuff, but also out of force of habit. :smile.gif:
Glimmar, your texture work is godlike. It's inspired me to build something epic.here it is
Thanks mate. :smile.gif:
That airship certainly is epic and a great design too.
I still need to scan through this thread to update my little gallery of steampunk inspiration in my OP. I'd like to include this excellent ship if I may. Does it have a name? :smile.gif:
It's ridiculous I know, but I still haven't yet constructed an epic airship, underwater base or submarine! They were all things I was intending to do over a year ago when I started changing textures for just such a purpose. I need to get my steam skates on!! :blink.gif:

Thanks, mate. Glad you like 'em. I totally agree with you on the floating head/gadget/gizmo thing for some alternate mobs. The theme really does give a lot of artistic licence to manipulate mobs in that way. I also agree that something suitably 'electro-dynamic' around the base would help explain the 'detached' hover mode. Animation really would have come in handy in this instance. :biggrin.gif:
You've just reminded me that I shouldn't hang about with this update, because the dragon health bar and experience orbs still aren't in the current download, even though I did them almost as soon as you pointed out they were missing.
I'll try and do an update today I think, even though I would have liked to include more random mobs. However, it will take a little pressure off me so that I can have a proper tinker with some of these mob ideas.
A little request here - Could you include your alt-texture sheets with the normal download? Thanks in advance (Because this post is likely to get burried)
This was how I used to do it, but I was concerned then, and even more now, that it makes the download too large for some, and more complicated for me when testing I've got everything in the latest update, but I'm really talking about all the extra material not just my alt-textures. I shall certainly consider it for my alt-texture sheets though, as it does sound sensible to have those handy in the pack, especially as I'm so slow at updating the 'extras' download.
i may start a bioshock 2 texturepack and the potions will be plasmids, the xp will be adam and hostile mobs will be big daddies and splicers.im already woring on a few things.
That'd be one very popular theme pack, d95. That game, for obvious reasons, is still one of my favourites and I'm really looking forward to the third installment.

Right...I shall start the pack update assembly and testing process immediately...and no doubt fail miserably again by missing out some essential component or other. :biggrin.gif:
I have animated an eye of ender block
custom_terrain_158.png http://i.imgur.com/NvOfH.png
custom_terrain_159.png http://i.imgur.com/sz977.png
the second animation is a continuation of the first, so recommend to use them both
Just a quick note, as I'm putting another update out as soon as I can and it's a process I hate doing, because there is so much to check through.
I only just got a chance to look at your animation work on my Eye of Ender block and it's excellent!
I will be including this in the update, until I get round to doing something myself, and just wanted to say a 'big thanks'. I think everyone will love it.
As often happens, I easily get distracted, so my apologies for seeming to ignore it.
My thanks once again.
[edit] It will be necessary for me to edit it slightly, as currently you've combined it with someone else's base/bottom texture. :biggrin.gif:
This is really awesome, I love the ores. (god help you if you don't make the diamond ore sparkle like the diamonds in your avatar)But the ripples on the still water are a bit hard to see, flowing water is fine. Can't wait to see what you do with the blaze and magma slime mobs and the nether brick (maybe something green to go with the green lava)Maybe the Nether brick could have animated lights and stuff bleeping away. Imagine that in a ruin. :biggrin.gif:
Many thanks, Deepblue686, and glad you like the ores. I understand your point regarding animating those same ores with sparkles/glints, and I have experimented with them, but without much success I'm afraid. If it was possible to create random glints on the same block it would prove successful, but all that happens at present is that any ore block within view pulses exactly the same as every other and it loses it's magic. In isolation they're ok but together it proves a bit annoying.
I think the best I could do to be fair is to make a range of animated ores, have them in an 'alt' folder in the pack and let folk decide themselves.
Haha. I'm working my way up to all those nether mobs! :biggrin.gif: They'll probably be something mechanical/alchemical or somesuch for sure.
My largely forgotten idea behind all the monsters, is that they are the abandoned relics of a long lost mechanically advanced humanoid race that decended beneath the earth to survive some cataclysm (think along the lines of 'The Time Machine' by H.G.Wells), the endermen being the pinnacle 'end' product so to speak.
The world above survived and returned to edenlike qualities minus it's human population, whereas those below advanced with alchemical and mechanical sciences, unaware that the world above had recovered, but they lost their soul and ultimately their humanity when their mechanical servants rose up and overthrew their dwindling and weakened numbers.
Then in time, these mechanical monstrosities began to ascend to the surface through portals and fissures in the rock, as much as part of an imperative instilled by their creators, as a need to feed and claim resources. And thus we have the world of 'Glimmar's Steampunk', a place filled both with wonder and mechanical horror in equal measure. Dah dah! :biggrin.gif:
UPS... I've shared a wrong second animation... I use another ender texture in my Frankie, so i've created the 2nd texture based on yours ender texturehere is ithttp://i.imgur.com/bpOQR.pngNow i'm realising an idea with zombie i've got 20 minutes ago watching Superjail )
Lol! I'd already changed it, mate. It didn't take long as I'd designed that strip along the bottom to be quickly interchangeable with different block types. :smile.gif:
No harm done! :smile.gif:
You envisaged the animation in just the way I thought it should be when I designed the copper pipes/high voltage cables to radiate out from the 'tungsten vacuum eye's of ender bulbs'...as if they were powering up the 'end portal'. All good fun and certainly adds to the effect. But I'm still as yet undecided what to choose for the ender block. When I've got some more 'RandomMob...itas' out of my system, I need to present a range of alternate ender blocks and see which is both most popular and practical to use. As I've mentioned before, I chose the wire mesh texture, because I had a need for it in my world for walkways, and I thought it would be suitably steampunk and unusual for the 'end', but it's not ideal when it 'moires' so easily. :sad.gif:
Thanks, mate. Glad you like 'em. I totally agree with you on the floating head/gadget/gizmo thing for some alternate mobs. The theme really does give a lot of artistic licence to manipulate mobs in that way. I also agree that something suitably 'electro-dynamic' around the base would help explain the 'detached' hover mode. Animation really would have come in handy in this instance. :biggrin.gif:
The more I think of this, the more I think that a steampunk-ized version of the Eyebot from Fallout would fit rather well. After all, they are known to explode when attacked, and they are already relatively steampunked (closer to dieselpunk or retro-futuristic, but close enough). Just make it out of brass and add some sparks flying everywhere and you're set.
Glimmar, if you are having trouble finding the motivation/incentive to design and Ender dragon skin....
Our dreams have come true...MOUSTACHE POWER :-{D
Haha! That was a hilarious interlude, but I most definately don't get out often enough, because I've never seen those two before! Very funny stuff, thanks. :biggrin.gif:
Lol, it's not motivation or incentive I need for the dragon, it's time and courage I'm short of. I definately need to know how to get my own dragon (in Minecraft of course!). :biggrin.gif:

As I've mentioned before, I chose the wire mesh texture, because I had a need for it in my world for walkways, and I thought it would be suitably steampunk and unusual for the 'end', but it's not ideal when it 'moires' so easily. :sad.gif:
Still doesn't work D:
I hope I can fix this soon, I'm missing good mods and texture packs!
I love how GameChap and Bertie remind me of Monty Python.
Edit: 300 posts!

Curse PremiumHaha!
