I really like your pack Glimmar, infact, Your textures is what inspired me to start my own, long ago and I say, your textures for the new blocks and items are looking as good as always. Kinda makes me wish I could draw like you :unsure:So, thank you! :smile.gif: If you want a tip on the enderstone (if that's what you are struggling with) I can tell you that I used the vines, dead vines as the base for my stone. And, well, I think it came out ok :wink.gif:
Many thanks, haxjagarn. :smile.gif:
I like your pack and the theme that runs throughout. It's very satisfying to think I might have inspired one or two to make their own packs and even more satisfying when you kind folk say so here.
hey glimmer just thinking out-loud here but it would be cool if you create a post on the screen shot forum for steam punk creations and link it to the first page of the TP page.
That's my ambition when I retire from texturing and from work in real life...that is it's my ambition to just build and build and...well you get the picture...or will do, eventually. :biggrin.gif:
As an EARTH Division Toy Soldier and lover of all things Steam and Cog - I approve of this texture pack(and have done for quite some time).I'm ducking and weaving between 1.8 and the pre-releases, as I have an industrialcraft² world I like to keep up to date. I'm slowly changing the textures to fit with the world - mainly by altering your fantastically versatile furnace to whatever machine takes my fancy.Would you have any ideas on what the Nuclear reactor could become perchance? I've not gone anywhere near the nanotech age yet, but I'm thinking of going Extraordinary gentlemen super-solider with the armour...In the meantime, distract yourself with this: . Not Steampunk deliberately, but it does cause a Gentleman's mind to speculate.Addendum - I do believe I've fallen for the animated textures on the Crafting box!Second addendum: I am once again lord of the page bottom, I fear.
Love the music and fits in nicely somehow with steampunk even though it's not overtly steampunk music...it's certainly the right period.
Also glad the pack has been giving you pleasure and inspiration. Yes that furnace, or parts of it along with other bits and pieces keeps cropping up in lots of other things I do, but that's nice I think, because the theme deals with machine parts, and just as in real life, component parts like pipes and cogs can be used in alsorts of different ways.
Yes, expect to see those animated cogs turning up in lots of different bits and bobs...and if kahr manages to give us animated paintings, how fine that will be.
Hehe. Skyrim is out in stores TODAY for us lucky Melbournians, so I'll pick that up tomorrow morning. Exams are finished now too so I can literally play all day! :biggrin.gif:
I thought you guys always got things a day later than everyone else?
Hope you're enjoying it now, mate. I got it last Friday, but didn't get a chance to have a go with it until yesterday. I also wasted time reloading sound drivers to fix fading voices...only to discover I had my headphone button pressed down on my 5.1 surround sound speaker control. I never check the obvious when there's a problem and always assume in a panic that it must be something more complicated.
Despite the usual early release bugs and the PC being mostly a second thought, it is still graphically and naratively a gorgeous game. :smile.gif:
Goddammit Sheep, I go to a college in the UK, I have exams in January :'( I really wanted to play Skyrim.May I ask you fine fellows what mods you use with your worlds, I have level up mod, rei's minimap, timber and SPC, I have also dabbled in tale of kingdoms, but I am starting to feel that the game is becoming a bit stale again, so I was looking for something fresh.
Haha I use no mods whatsoever, other than MC Patcher of course, but if things slow down with Minecraft I'll delve deeper and have a look at what you guys have been talking about over the last few months. :smile.gif:
Well, Girl Genius is being interesting again. (DOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!) Which reminds me, must look around for Girl Genius-themed skins. At the moment I am playing in a 1.9.5 server, but my fully modded 1.8 version has Yogbox (which gives me Equal Exchange, Mo Creatures, Millennaire, Rei's Minimap, Floating Ruins and some others), plus Great Wall, Ruins, Tale of Kingdoms, Scuba Diving, and Coral Reef, and at this point, I'm not willing to start a new world until I can have Mo Creatures and Coral Reef in it, and if I could figure out how to make Tropicsmod compatible with all that, I would be a very happy camper indeed. I was going to use the Forge as well, but I can't seem to get it loaded successfully.I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of all the possibilities with all those mods, either. So much fun, so little time....And, this texture pack is gorgeous. And now I need to redownload it so I can get that copper cauldron, as it's just what my house has been needing. Is mix and matching from different texture packs allowable if you have no intention of distributing it? I'm getting the hang of using Gimp to tweak terrain.png and kz.png files, and I swear I spend more time improving the look of Minecraft that playing Minecraft.
Sorry about the copper cauldron. It's still not available for download yet until I've managed to put together a worthy update and finally finished the eye of ender block. I'm not holding out on purpose though, honestly! :sad.gif:
Just from your post alone I'm amazed at the number of mods I know nothing about, but they sound just the sort that would fascinate me.
I have to laugh sometime when I read recent posts in the news about how folk think it's been a good ride while Minecraft has been in development, but how sad it is that it's all coming to an end when it's released this week. I see things just getting better after release date and your list of mods just proves it. :smile.gif:
Creativity just can't be stifled and I don't know of any other game that holds as much food for the imagination than Minecraft.
I've been fiddling with the Technic pack, which has Industrialcraft2, Buildcraft, Redpower, Equivalent Exchange, Mo' Creatures, SDK's mods, Millenaire, Somnia, Zeppelin, and a bunch of others (depending on which version of the pack you get). I've barely scratched the surface of the things that can be done with it.
Hah! So that's what's keeping you busy. :biggrin.gif:
Heya Glimmar! I was wondering if there's any chance of you uploading your pack to MinecraftCustomizer.net, because the customizer you use isn't available for Macs. =/ If not, it's fine, I'll just do it by hand, I suppose. :smile.gif:
It's always been my intention, mate. :smile.gif: Time is of the essence though. :sad.gif:
How do i make the grass a lighter colour the biome im in has it turned black and i need green
Notch or Jeb broke the biome colors and they still haven't been fixed. Even in none swamp areas the transition from colour to colour is nowhere near as subtle as it was before, and don't get me started on the hard-coded drops of lava and water.
I'm told, if they're not fixed by Mojang on release, that kahr might have a solution. :smile.gif:
Hey, sorry for the late response i wasnt able to get to the computer for a while. by translated (i couldn't think of a bettter term) i meant altering it from 32x to 16x. Yeah i understand why you won't, and i am plannign on posting it on Minecraft forumsAlso as a theme for a texturepack "industrial" it would dated from late 1800s and early 1900s, it would also have steampunk undertones.
I can't see any objection to you using it in a 16x pack, mate. If it's very closely related to mine when reduced in size I'd be grateful for a little credit or a link.
Also, Glimmar when my conversion of your pack progress to a later level would you mind giving me a way to download so i can take screenshots of it in the dock world you showcase your pack with?
Haha! That may be asking way too much. It's still very much private and greatly in turmoil until I can get my hands on a final release of Minecraft that MCEdit will work with, then I'll have a lot to do dragging stuff out of all my old worlds into NewGlim.
It's very much my little sanctum, and has been ever since I first installed Minecraft back in June of 2010.
Okay, this is driving me completely bonkers--How on earth did you get the potion bottles to bob up in down in that video? And how did you get the bottles to be a higher resolution?I haven't even bothered with trying to texture the potion stand until now, but the default won't move even when it's brewing. And I didn't see a custom animation that would make it move in the zip file....Never mind, I'm a dunce. Didn't look closely enough to realize that they were floating items. :tongue.gif:
I'm very sorry for giving you the impression they were part of an animation, mate. I didn't mean to fool anyone with the vid, but it was the only way I could get a few examples of the different coloured potion bottles and make them part of the little scene I was after. Also I think the potion bottles appearing to be a higher resolution is just a trick of the vid, just like jpegs, in the way they slightly blur the pixels, making them appear smoother than they actually are.
At the time I did the vid I was completely unaware kahr was going to facilitate animated blocks and items, so it didn't enter my head that it would cause confusion. :smile.gif:
I'm looking forward to all the possibilities for little vids now we have animated stuff too.
Here's a couple more taster pics.
The first is another moon phase:
...and a couple of new paintings. There will be more in the next update:
Hah! So that's what's keeping you busy. :biggrin.gif:
Actually, what's been keeping me busy is TF2. Kinda got re-addicted to it, working on getting one of my roommates on it too. Decided to take a break from Minecraft until the release, so I don't have to worry about switching out with the latest pre-release.

That's probably a good move. I know I need a break from time to time from Minecraft, just to remind me what I'm missing. I can't stay away too long though. I'm probably the nearest thing there is to a Minecraft addict, because my NewGlim world has almost become a virtual home...sad, I know. I can feel my 'laid-back' endorphins heaving a sigh of relief everytime I walk around my dockland and contemplate what I'm going to build next! lol.
I'm certainly looking forward to a more cohesive and stable version of Minecraft to which everyone can refer. It's confusing enough for regulars on the forums, let alone anyone new looking to try out texture packs and mods for the first time.
My youngest son is a TF2 addict, but Skyrim has stolen him away for now. We were both advancing through Battlefield 3 and then Skyrim came along! :blink.gif:
Finally got round to making something I was satisfied with. There are still some details and shading to add, but I'm nearly there with what has been a tricky little project. The problem was making a block that would work for creative use above ground in my Newglim world as a material I don't currently have...I needed something for gantry walkways etc.
It also had to work as the eye of ender block and look like it was powering a very powerful 'valve', a glowing valve that also has to look the part when thrown in the air...and fit the theme, the glow Notch/Jeb gave it is a bonus but certainly gives the impression I was looking for.
Here's a pic of the 'eye of ender' globe hovering over my dock:
Not everyone will like the mesh texture I chose as the nether 'brick', so I've designed the eye of ender block so that it's relatively easy to make other nether brick variations later.
Beautiful as always. Now I really need to go back and redo mine....it looks fine on its own, but not inside the stone brick chamber. :\
Thanks, mate. :smile.gif:
I know what you mean, it's a constant battle to fit textures together, and a balancing act of limited time. I lost count of the number of false starts I made on just this one block. :sad.gif:
Somehow I've never posted here before. I must say this is probably one of the most consistent packs I've seen, there's no doubt about its theme. The stone half slabs stab my eyes a little for some reason, maybe a little to light :PAlso ever read The Demi Monde by Rod Rees?
Thanks, drewbie. :smile.gif:
I try to have a range of shades and colours to the common building blocks, therefore the half block fits a niche someway between stone/cobble and white wool/snow and is supposed to be a kind of marble. It dates back to those primitive days of very limited block choice and semi-fulfilled a metallic role. I probably need to have another look at it someday, but I've grown so accustomed to it now any change would probably make me think my world had suddenly turned alien
The Demi-Monde looks like a great read. I'm always on the look out for new authors to tide me over while I wait for my trusted/favourite writers to finish new work. I'll certainly add Rod Rees to my ever burgeoning list. :smile.gif:
Have you seen the competition winner of the steampunk mod, it is actually a pretty epic mod I think it would suit well in your world and may prove interesting for you to texture (after you have finished the other items) :PAlso I am not a spelling nazi, but I thought I should point out at the bottom of your change log, it should be 'over-write' not 'over-right' :tongue.gif:
I did, mate. :smile.gif:
I haven't tried it out yet through lack of time trying to make up a decent update soon, but I complimented him on it and await the creation of a thread, so's I can check it out properly...it does look a worthy winner.
Haha, my speeling :biggrin.gif: is atrocious at the best of time, but gets even worse when updating...trying to double check everything and make lists for changelogs, etc. I also very often mix up similar sounding words when I'm speed typing. Although most folk would call my version of speed typing a finger plod, but to my aging eyes they seem to blur! Hah...no, that's not speed then...just my blurred eyesight. Lol! :biggrin.gif:
I love the eye of ender block, Glim, really suits the theme! (would I expect anything else from you? :tongue.gif:)
Looking at that eye floating over your awesome world has really got my inspiration piqued too! I feel the need to build something big and grand. My world is lacking that at the moment. NEEDS MORE AWESOME!

Your world is awesome, Sheep! Remember, whether you build something or not, the entire relatively infinite world of Minecraft is covered with your excellent texture pack, so is already awesome. :tongue.gif:
I must have asked a stupid question. My guess is either there is a customizer somewhere that I haven't found, or you don't want to make one and are tired of explaining it. The reason I asked is because I don't have a program that can handle transparency, so I can't copy and paste textures. I enjoy picking alternative textures for a personalized pack, but it's extremely inconvenient to have to download all the extra textures when you only want a few of them, and then look through them sheet by sheet, trying to remember which textures you liked and comparing them to new ones. It seems I would need to keep about 15 windows open to customize this pack. On top of that, I don't make texture packs myself, so I don't know the layouts of the .png images well enough to know what is what and where to put new textures. In short, I am a layman with no art programs beyond paint and no technical experience with textures. It seems to me that the extra textures are mostly available to other texture pack makers. A customizer simplifies the whole process, and has all the relevant textures together right where you want them, and eliminates the need for downloading 10x as much stuff as you need.
I don't mean to sound critical, I just don't think the extra textures should require purchase and installation of an art program and intimate knowledge of the workings of texture packs. I know you're busy, but I ask you to reconsider setting up a customizer.

I've explained on numerous occasions that I plan to upload my textures to the Minecraft Customiser, 'when I have the time', but just like you, going through the thousands of textures I've made available with a view to uploading, all at my expense in time and effort, but absolutely free (up to now I've resisted the urge to ask for donations...neither have I subjected anyone to ad-fly), is no mean feat.
If you can, you have to see it for a moment from my perspective, I have RL work to do, a family to support (some quite needy...health-wise) and other responsibilties too, just like lots of folk around here. With what limited time I have left, I do want to have some time to relax, texturing for Minecraft being one of them, but like you I do like to play with Minecraft (so's I don't get jaded), and unbelievably I like some other games and activities too(shock, horror). :blink.gif:
Now, the little time I have to texture, I have to decide whether to spend that time on cataloguing and uploading my stuff to the Minecraft Customiser, or I can 'try' and keep up with all the new stuff Notch throws out, so that my pack remains useable and I stay motivated to do new stuff for free! I think you already know which way I've decided to go to avoid insanity.
As mentioned above, when I have the time and inclination I will upload to the Customiser, but as I ask for nothing in return for all I've provided here, I ask for a similar amount of courtesy in not applying any pressure when requesting something. I don't mind folk requesting and suggesting stuff, that's what forum threads are for, but I do mind when folk kind of expect stuff to happen when I do all this for free...sometimes seeing the dawn in, trying to give folk the latest update, etc. My wife literally thinks I'm quite ridiculous at times, especially when I've work to do the next day...and at times I have to agree! :unsure.gif:
I understand your frustration (believe me, I'm frustrated with the way things are at the moment too), but remember your asking me to do an unbelievable amount of extra work, because you're not prepared to do a little. As you say...
it's extremely inconvenient to have to download all the extra textures when you only want a few of them, and then look through them sheet by sheet, trying to remember which textures you liked and comparing them to new ones.
I just don't think the extra textures should require purchase and installation of an art program and intimate knowledge of the workings of texture packs.
I'm at a loss as to why you think you need to purchase an art program or really need any 'intimate' knowledge of the working of texture packs. :smile.gif:
Gimp and Paint.NET are absolutely free (though I'd encourage you to donate something when you can for all the hard work good folk have put in to those projects for free) and Gimp is all I've ever needed for this pack. Both programs support transparency.
As for intimate knowledge of texture packs, you really only need to know how to drop some textures 'as is' into appropriate folders (mostly with instructions provided) or cut'n'paste 32x32 squares onto either the 'terrain.png' or the 'item.png' files...it really is no more difficult than using a word processor...seriously.
But, I suppose this is really all down to 'convenience' is it not?
Forgive me my rant...I've calmed down now...it does relieve my pent up frustrations though. I do understand that for some, simply cutting and pasting can be a daunting task. However, just bear in mind I have said many times I do intend uploading my stuff to the Customiser...and on that repetitive note, you'll just have to be patient. :tongue.gif:
Without sounding flippant, I'm glad you like 'some' of my textures enough to be disappointed they're not available on the customiser for your personal mix. :tongue.gif:
Yes, I agree with Glimmar, use Paint.net or Gimp. Though I suggest Paint.net because gimp can sometimes look intimidating to the young pixeler or editor.
Paint.net is free to download and is very basic. It look a lot like MS Paint to me, meaning I know what all the tools do just by looking at them.
Also, Glimmar, I use the Better than Wolves pack and recently started repixeling some of the stuff to fit your pack. Would it be alright if I used some of your alternative textures to mix and match and get what i want to fit the machines in the better than wolves pack. It will not be distributed and if anyone ever does ask for it. All credit will of course go to you. I dont plan to change the logo screen or anything like that.
Thank you for not taking my question too badly. I've seen much worse. I completely understand how much work making a customizer must take, and I already said I know how busy you are. I saw nothing about a customizer in the first few or last few pages of the thread (this is a very long thread, and I haven't been on it for very long), and I got no response to my first post on the subject, so I made an assumption. I'm sorry.
I'm a busy man too, and I don't have the extra time set aside to make this my hobby/part-time, unpaid job, so I don't think it's too much to ask. I'm glad you intend to, and I understand how much extra trouble it is.
As more of a side note, like I said, I'm inexperienced. "Intimate knowledge" may have been a slight exaggeration. What I meant was the fact that I don't know how the texture .png images are laid out, so I don't really know where things are supposed to be. I'm a consumer, so you can safely assume I'm clueless.
Thank you for your polite, calm response. I wish I got them more often around here. I apologize for my rash assumptions. I love all of your textures, which is part of why it's hard to choose between them, besides the facts already discussed. When I said I only want some of the textures, I meant the ones I would use in my personalized pack, without the other ones taking up space. I didn't mean to sound frustrated, I just try very hard to make my point.
Good luck with the rest of your work, and feel free to set me loose on anyone else who has an issue with you.
Please Glimmar, please do tell me you have not let your kids listen to Pop or Hip-Hop. :tongue.gif:
Haha! :biggrin.gif:
I pride myself in liking all forms of music from ancient to modern, classic to heavy rock, country and western (so long as it's Johnny Cash) to celtic folk, etc, but I have to admit I find it very difficult to relax, feel inspired or roused for combat and all the other forms of human emotion and feeling, etc, whilst listening to either of those forms of 'music' (which is why I never watch X-Factor), but then I am quite ancient. :tongue.gif:
However, despite my best efforts, kids being what they are and all, always wanting to forge their own destiny, my youngest lad annoys me all the time by playing Rap when I'm trying to think, but he mostly has quite a broad taste in music, including heavy rock, rock opera, et al. :smile.gif:

I keep meaning to re-download Paint.NET and look at what I sometimes recommend to folk to use. I used it years ago when it was first released, but not to great effect or anything.
So long as you don't redistribute anything with my textures in online (according to my licence), you can use my work in this thread, alts and all as you see fit for personal use and to pass on to friends etc. giving credit/link where appropriate and perhaps mentioning about not redistributing and such.
I'm so looking forward to Mojang slowing down on Minecraft after release (if they do) so that I can sample things like The Better Than Wolves mod. I've had my eye on that since it's release. :smile.gif:
And I also thank you for not taking my reply badly either, especially as I thought I'd climbed back onto my proverbial 'high horse' when I re-read it. I apologise for not replying to your original query and perfectly understand how frustrating it can be with all the alts I've uploaded here. It's quite frustrating for me too, because I love making alternate textures, and can see that the Customiser is perfect for making them available to everyone, but (and you might find it hard to believe) I'm not very internet savvy myself, so view new things like setting up an account with the Minecraft Customiser as a great hurdle to cross! It originally took me weeks to figure out how to post on these forums and I religiously avoid things like Facebook and Twitter, etc. :biggrin.gif:
I'm mostly warm and snug here in my corner of the Minecraft Forums and the Customiser makes me feel like I'm heading down to the city office to compete with everyone in the rat race again, instead of on my own in a cosy studio.
However, you might be interested to know your comment and my subsequent reply prompted me to open an account with the Customiser and begin to upload some pics and write a blurb (no pack or alt textures yet though!). It was as I imagined it would be...wonderful, but frightening in it's complexity to my limited intelligence, and yet another chore I can see myself having to do to keep it updated. It's offline while I try to figure out how to do things and it will now probably have to wait until well after Minecraft v1.0 is released, before I can re-engage my brain scanner in it's general direction. :smile.gif:
I'm glad I didn't offend, certainly didn't intend to, but it gave me an opportunity to explain my circumstances over again.
Now I better get back to finishing my 'festering spider eyeball' texture off and 'blaze cream', before I have another look at making some alt mechanical mob textures for MC Patcher's Random Mobs facility. I've been dying to see what lot's of different clockwork contraptions might look like scurrying around my dockland. :blink.gif:
Thanks for understanding, Locke_Erasmus. :smile.gif:
hey! i played bioshock 2 and i wanted some bioshock 2 textures for minecraft, but im m not a pixelart expert so.... could you make a big daddy suit armor texture?
heres a picture of a "rosie"
edit: the second picture is a lie! rosies dont have drills, they have rivetguns.
I have the Patcher installed and all that works but when it rains it is a white screen with something on it, so when it rains I am temp. blind in the game outside. Other then that great texture pack, keep up the good work
Just putting the finishing touches to my next update to compliment Minecraft version 1.0
If you're moving up from 1.8.1 for the first time and updating with my latest pack there will be a lot to discover, so don't forget to read all applicable changelogs.
There's a few nice things to come, hopefully within the next 24 hours...perhaps sooner than later.
@ Sombodey07: It sounds like the 'rain.png' file in your copy of the texture pack has lost it's transparency, not sure why that would happen for you, but you could try re-downloading the pack. :smile.gif:
I'm assuming it's nothing to do with the latest full release of Minecraft, as I haven't had chance to check out the rain since updating half-an-hour ago myself.

Curse PremiumMany thanks, haxjagarn. :smile.gif:

I can't see any objection to you using it in a 16x pack, mate. If it's very closely related to mine when reduced in size I'd be grateful for a little credit or a link.
The pack sounds interesting, mate. :smile.gif:
Casual gawkers are welcome too! :biggrin.gif:
Actually, what's been keeping me busy is TF2. Kinda got re-addicted to it, working on getting one of my roommates on it too. Decided to take a break from Minecraft until the release, so I don't have to worry about switching out with the latest pre-release.

Curse PremiumThat's probably a good move.
:blink.gif:

Curse PremiumFinally got round to making something I was satisfied with.

Curse PremiumThanks, mate. :smile.gif:
I know what you mean, it's a constant battle to fit textures together, and a balancing act of limited time. I lost count of the number of false starts I made on just this one block. :sad.gif:
:smile.gif:
Thanks again.

Curse PremiumI did, mate.
More than decent I'd say! :smile.gif:

Curse PremiumApparently it has dark steampunk leanings, which is a bonus for me as I like them anyway. :smile.gif:
I shall be listening to this in my Newglim world for some time and deriving much inspiration as I build. :biggrin.gif:

Curse PremiumYour world is awesome, Sheep! Remember, whether you build something or not, the entire relatively infinite world of Minecraft is covered with your excellent texture pack, so is already awesome. :tongue.gif:
Glad you like my ender block though. :smile.gif:
I don't mean to sound critical, I just don't think the extra textures should require purchase and installation of an art program and intimate knowledge of the workings of texture packs. I know you're busy, but I ask you to reconsider setting up a customizer.

Curse PremiumI've explained on numerous occasions that I plan to upload my textures to the Minecraft Customiser, 'when I have the time', but just like you, going through the thousands of textures I've made available with a view to uploading, all at my expense in time and effort, but absolutely free (up to now I've resisted the urge to ask for donations...neither have I subjected anyone to ad-fly), is no mean feat.
Haha! Glad you think so, mostly my kids think I have no taste whatsoever! :biggrin.gif:
Paint.net is free to download and is very basic. It look a lot like MS Paint to me, meaning I know what all the tools do just by looking at them.
Also, Glimmar, I use the Better than Wolves pack and recently started repixeling some of the stuff to fit your pack. Would it be alright if I used some of your alternative textures to mix and match and get what i want to fit the machines in the better than wolves pack. It will not be distributed and if anyone ever does ask for it. All credit will of course go to you. I dont plan to change the logo screen or anything like that.
Please and thank you!

Curse PremiumHaha!
:smile.gif:

Curse PremiumI keep meaning to re-download Paint.NET and look at what I sometimes recommend to folk to use.
:smile.gif:

Curse PremiumIf you're moving up from 1.8.1 for the first time and updating with my latest pack there will be a lot to discover, so don't forget to read all applicable changelogs.
