Yay! 1.9pre4 is here, but I got the same problem as pre3. I thought pre4 would fix it... It's the hearts from the hardcore mode, they are different from the regular hearts and they still appear as purple blocks. Something to check out for the next update :smile.gif:
Does that mean most of the mods have been updated now or are you just switching back and forth?
Haha! Believe it or not the current splash screen I have in the pack is taken from my NewGlim world, just a more open area where I have some experimental structural work and laboratories going, (hah! sounds very grand a technical!).
I tried floating in the middle of my dockland a while back and taking clips on the four points of the compass and above and below, but it came out a bit too busy and confusing in that out of focus style. I'll have another go though when I get the chance. :smile.gif:
I need to transfer a lot of my buildings from previous edits and do a lot of tidying up from texture experiments, but I still intend to make some more guided tour/theme vids at some stage. I just need to make it a little more impressive before eventually releasing it on the world. Also I think I'm scared that if I release my world I might lose interest in continuing to build in it. :huh.gif:
Just switching back at forth at the moment. Haven't checked to see if the individual mods are updated yet, but I know that the compilation pack is still only for 1.7_3 ¬_¬
Also… I guess I didn't see that you had changed the splash screen. I had only glanced at it after applying the texture pack, and it was facing an unbuilt area that looked a lot like the default… Now that I watch it all the way round, it is very definitely your area (I think I recognize one of those towers).
However, you could offer two or three different versions from different locations in the extras pack, if you've got time. :tongue.gif:
Glimmer i would love to see how you make you textures, like i have here:and all you have to do is speed it up and then post it on youtube, it will help me out alot since my texture pack died and to see how you make your textures would help me out
Haha! Video tutorials aren't really my sort of thing, DeadBeyond and I'd have to enjoy doing something like that to even consider it. First, I'm painfully shy in front of a camera and would end up tongue tied, secondly, they take way too long to make and I'd never get anything done on the pack and the way I work, which is incredibly slow and laborious, would not make good viewing! :sad.gif:

Pssquadou. Please accept my abject apologies! Having never looked at Hardcore, I wasn't aware of the extra set of hearts on the icons.png sheet and the problem when playing...even though I cursorily glanced at that graphic to see if anything new had been added...it's obvious now! Then again, I'm not noted for being very observant. :smile.gif:
Bear with me on this...shouldn't take long...and I'll get a new update in the OP before the night is out, UK time. Sorry about that and thanks for the pic. Keep a look out, I won't make a big fanfare, but I'll change the version number when it's ready for download and post a notice. :smile.gif:
I get too wrapped up in Creative now, but sometime I think I'd like to give hardcore mode a try, it should significantly change how precious resources and life and limb and thus the realism of surviving would be.
Lol, I want to try out Battlefield 3 soon, but Minecraft has way too many aspects to it to even consider any alternative gaming. :biggrin.gif:
For all those who dont like the drips from the lava or water the easy way to get rid of them is to go into the texture pack, go to particles and delete the three pictures below the two water drops
Yes, exactly so! The hardcoding Notch introduced in the 1.8 version is a real pain, for those drops especially, even more annoying for you with the green lava. I love the action of the drips with the standard lava colour, but that horrible hard-coded neon blue water is a real downer.
I had hoped kahr might change this aspect in his MC Patcher, but we'll just have to wait and see.
I'll upload an alternative particles.png, hopefully tonight if I remember, that just needs dropping straight into the texture pack.
The 'Contagion' movie was ok by the way, quiet believable, if not much of a story, just standard disaster movie fair, but acted and directed very well.

it's a pity cuz i wanted to ask the same question. DeadBeyond outstripped me
C'mon Glimmar :biggrin.gif: We are all want to see how do you make your awesome textures :smile.gif: I think you don't need to talk or show yourself, only draw!
Pleeease :biggrin.gif:

Haha! I'm flattered, RussianGuy, but it aint gonna happen I'm afraid, for all those reasons outlined above. I work in a very chaotic manner flicking back and forth and just haven't got the time or inclination to make tutorials when most of the time I'm not even sure what I'm working on. :blink.gif: I'm dying to get back to a little bit of fun building too. I'm the same when I build...place a few blocks, back and forth to see what it looks like then demolish it all and start again!
Hope you all understand, it's just not my sort of thing and I'm really nothing special, what you get for anything I do in Glimmar's Steampunk is the end product of many hours of slog. I'm no speed artist, and take my word for it, any video tutorial by me would be insanely boring. :smile.gif:
I just downloaded the texture pack but i was wondering if you could add some more colour to the discs as most of them are still yellow and green thanks if you can
It will delay the v 3.1 upload a bit tonight, but I'll add that in too. When I did my version of the music discs, I doggedly stuck to the colour coding set by Notch, thinking there was some significance to his choice of colours. Now I know differently, I'll make them more distinguishable if I can.
Glimmar, the customizer has just released the ability to add multiple users adding to a texture pack, what this means is that you could create an account, one of us could then be entrusted to upload the basics and then hand control over to you to make sure everything is to your liking.
I will look into this, lordofsax, but I still don't want to add any more to my workload at the moment. Just too many things going on to spread myself any thinner. :sad.gif:
When I do get round to it, I may need a few trustworthy helpers like yourself to help to continue to upload stuff. The founders of the Customizer have already uploaded most of my stuff I believe and are patiently waiting for me to check it out. I'm not purposefully holding back, other than I don't have time to look at it now and don't want to release my textures until I do get the time to properly consider where everything should go.

Sure, I quite understand you. Nevermind :biggrin.gif:
Full use of this pack requires the latest version of 'MCPATCHER'MC Patcher link. All HD texture packs require MC Patcher to fix graphical glitches and to make use of HD custom animations and new custom terrain animations (yes, many of the terrain blocks and items in this pack are now animated! See the v3.1 changelog below).
Don't forget to use the latest version of MC Patcher if you want to see all the new animated terrain and item blocks.
Glimmar's Steampunk v3.1 for 1.9 v4 Changelog:
Edited icons.png file with new hardcore mode 'heart' icons included. They sport a little gauge to signify the importance of looking after yourself in hardcore. Apologies to all you hardcore players for not realizing that Notch had added this extra row of hearts.
Alternative 'no drips' particles.png file in the pack. You will need to activate this yourself if you wish to rid yourself of Notch's hard-coded coloured water and lava drips. Instructions in the folder.
Alternative 'no clouds' clouds.png file in the pack. This was always available in my 'extras' download, but thought it might be more convenient in the pack. I'm not a great fan of blocky clouds. Instructions in the 'no clouds' folder.
re-coloured the steampunk music drums/discs to make each more distinct. I had slavishly followed Notch's original colour-coding, but now realize that wasn't necessary.
Added alternative green acidic custom_lava animation strips. Now residing in a folder in the pack. If you'd rather have green lava to match the green furnace, torch and green flame particles, then you now have a convenient means to switch. Just drag the strips into the root of the pack to overwrite the original.
That's a shame, I simply thought this would be interesting news for you. :smile.gif: Best of luck
Oh, it is, mate. It is of great interest and I'm grateful for the info. It's just I have to be realistic with my time and sanity and I know it will be a mountainous task to sort out what goes where. It's a task for me just keeping up with the basic pack at the moment. :smile.gif:
really love your pack- trying to make a city, but im ot much of an architect.
when can we see your world?
:tongue.gif: also, when will the customiser be out?
love the green lava by the way
Hey Glimmar, I have a huge question...and if you except maybe a bit of a task?
Anyway I want to make a Steampunk adventure map centered around your pack. I have the story done, and what everything will be. I have lots of stuff to put in.
I was wondering if you could make quite a few custom textures for me? All credit for the pack with obviously go towards this thread and you rightfully. You also don't have to do them right away, since your probably busy on final release textures.
Reply back so I know
Also if you know any good designers for good steampunk vehicles, systems, and building contact me.
Proper credit will go to them as well.

Glad you like the pack and the green lava. :smile.gif:
See a few posts above for what I intend to do with my world. :smile.gif:
Just Google 'Steampunk Cities' or 'Victorian Architecture' for helpful hints and inspiration on what to build and how to build it. Don't forget to combine my concrete-like stone with the cobblestone and brick in ways that look structurally sound (strong) and you should be fine. Just build in ways that all cities get built - from the centre out. Lots of streets, factories, towers, domes, civic buildings, etc.
See the list of 'Steampunk Things to Build' at the very bottom of my OP for ideas. :smile.gif:
Read the posts above as to why I can't commit to the Customiser just yet, and why I don't have a firm date as to when I will. When I've got the time is the answer I suppose.

Haha. I'm flattered you want to use the pack to make an adventure, mate.
Unfortunately I can't commit to individual projects and more work, as wonderful as it might be. I get a steady stream of requests to do individual textures, etc. and have to give the same reply. :sad.gif:
As hinted at throughout my thread, I just don't have the time to do anything other than just try and keep up with Notch's basic set of textures. Glimmar's Steampunk is my only 'texture' interest at the moment and what little free time I have left I like to build in my world so that I don't lose interest in Minecraft and my pet project. I'm an artist in 'real life' too, so don't want Minecraft texturing to become too much like work. If it's not fun any more and my wife thinks I'm 'working' instead of relaxing, then I'll get a ban slapped on me!! Eeek! :blink.gif:
If I had all the time in the world I'd love to do steampunk vehicles and much, much more, but mundane real life stuff, work and kids just won't allow me.
Also don't forget I'm not granting permissions for my pack to be redistributed from anywhere other than this thread. I don't mind you linking your adventure to this pack and recommending folk to download it from here, but please don't redistribute it with your adventure from another thread. I'm really sorry to be negative, but too many times I've had to chase people up who've picked up my pack from others and assumed it was ok to redistribute it, or parts of it.
Hello Glimmar. I'm making a simple gun mod that is set in the range of 17th-century through WWI-era technology. And quite frankly I am worse at pixel art than a cat sleeping on the keyboard with MS Paint running in the background, so would you mind making some textures for me? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make 16x16 and 32x32 versions of the following guns and items:
Flintlock pistol
Flintlock musket
Blunderbuss
Victorian-era Revolver
Bolt-action rifle
Double-barreled shotgun
Musket ball
Rifle bullet
Spring (just any old metal spring, nothing special)
Bolt-action rifle clip (the old-fashioned kind that looks like a metal bracket with six bullets attacked to it, not the modern kind that looks like a metal rectangle)
If you do want to make them for me, just post the textures here. I will give you credit and link to this thread in my mod's thread. I will not be using adf.ly either. (More because I'm too young to own a credit card than specifically to protect your license, but wither way I'm still not using it.)

My Website. I make mods for Minecraft and am also making my own game.

Sorry mate. :sad.gif:
it's all good. I'll try and piece together some textures and send them to you. This is because it would need to be in the "alts" section.
See what i really needed were guns for bows, bullets for arrows.
Victorian engineer zombies
Skeleton automaton guards and enderman robots (already covered)
And also pigmen as witchdoctors...that may be some trouble. But im sure i can somehow manage it.
I'm sure I can piece together these from your great textures so far. That is, if you allow me to.

blnderbuss?!
will we be able to load it with gunpowder and a random block or item for example: bones for blinding shot, gravel for weak ammo with more bulletspread and more pellets per shot, iron pellets for shold be basic ammo, stone for one pig bullet, netherrack for flame shots and obsidian for sharp pellets.
i can try to make a blnderbuss for you,bt i have much schoolwork right now..
I was playing with robo-zombie, created some alt skins for Random Mobs (soon will share them), and i thought why villagers can't catch one of them, wash and upgrade his brains, make working for them?
Hey Glimmar, ever since I first saw this pack i really loved and have been using it ever since. I'm currently using the pack to create an adventure map of sorts. :laugh.gif:
Really like all the mob skins :biggrin.gif: , but the cake looks a little strange :tongue.gif:

That sounds mighty interesting, but I'd have to point you to the reply I gave to Wulf_Oman above. With regret I haven't any spare time to take on any texturing work other than just trying to keep this pack updated. :sad.gif:

Haha - it does sound like a lot of work there, Wulf.
I will look out for the completed adventure then. Perhaps I can open up a section in my OP to cover adventures.
Anyone reading this better not get the idea that that means I will be texturing for adventures though. Lol! My statements above still apply, I simply don't have the time to make more textures than just those I'm working on for my basic pack. Sorry folks.
Awsome! I wanted to play mod with this texture pack ... but right now I must figure out how to NOT crash the game... :dry.gif: Mayby I've done something wrong or not. :huh.gif: Anyway! Thanks for this awsome texture pack! Keep on going! :wink.gif:
Glad you like the pack, Demotron. Do you mean there's a mod that keeps crashing along with this texture pack? Hope you get it fixed, mate. :smile.gif:

Haha, that's a nice idea actually and a great little alternative skin. Usual thing...I might use it in the pack until I do my own. I'm looking forward to sticking some machinary inside a see-thru robot! :smile.gif:
Hey Glimmar, I'm not sure but I think I spotted a few of your textures in use here:Some remixI'm not completly sure but he is using others textures without permission (sphax's and the continuation), this might be something for you to check out.
I clicked on your link, but the forums just say it can't find it. Perhaps it's already been dealt with.

Glad you like the pack, Mr 4th Reich. :smile.gif: Thanks for taking the time to post. It's always encouraging to know someone is finding my work useful.
As regards the strangeness of the cake, let me dredge up an old essay I compiled for situations such as this. Lol. :biggrin.gif:
Why Such Strange Textures Mr Glimmar?
For any newcomers or generally puzzled passers-by, here are my reasons for certain unusual decisions I made about the textures in Glimmar's Steampunk. The following is very wordy and takes up a lot of space, so I put it in a spoiler:
My philosophy for a game with limited blocks, but infinite building potential, is to make as many of the blocks as adaptable or multitasking as possible for my steampunk world. However, I have still designed them to retain some purposeful mystery in the landscape, I certainly don't want them to appear ridiculous. Remember, many of my blocks were designed at a time when we had far fewer blocks or mods to play around with. At the same time I'm motivated more by building epic architecture and grungy Victorian sci-fi constructions than your typical medieval fantasy survival style type of game.
So if something in Glimmar's Steampunk looks a little weird and you find yourself asking what on earth was this guy 'on' when he decided on this or that for a texture, try instead to ask yourself what other uses you can put things like pumpkins, beds, musicplayers, clockwork cakes in their 'normal' traditional form when compared to my more gadgety alternatives. In most other packs a cake can only be a cake, a bed can only be a bed, etc.
My steampunk bed can be: a time machine for jumping forwards in time, a medical contraption, a torture device, a piece of equipment for launching torpedoes on a Steampunk battleship, a bed for creating a Frankenstein creature with redstone wires radiating out from it and anything else you care to invent with your imagination...it's not supposed to look comfortable!! How often do you lounge around in bed in Minecraft for goodness sake!!! I want to create things for my world that look interesting and are as adaptable as possible.
My Steampunk cake can be used as a pretend music player, controls on the bridge of Steampunk vessel, a weird unusual device in a mad scientist's laboratory, etc, and now we can animate things I can make it even more of a useful prop. Yes, there's nothing stopping you animating a standard cake, but then that's going to look pretty strange with rotating cherries on top!!
Changing the blocks the way I have, like most of my decisions about anything in my pack is to make them more useful, more multifuctional in design for an industrial fantasy world build.
Similarly the pumpkin, being the only 'helmet' block we can wear with an editable HUD, was too good an opportunity not to use it for something like a primitive space/diving helmet for building underwater bases. Back then there was an excellent 'diving' mod by dougbenham that made use of the pumpkin for this purpose when the pumpkin first came out in the Halloween update and it worked beautifully in my opinion. Sadly the mod was never supported after further Minecraft updates. Other underwater diving mods haven't been as well suited to the period nature of a diving helm since.
The pumpkin is another useful source of light in the game, one that can be used underwater and, unlike the glowstones, can actually be moved around...so perfect for underwater bases! Making a diving helm texture also second as a lantern texture and have pipes around it, that fit my newly animated redstone pipes, makes it much more useful in this theme than ever a natural looking pumpkin would. They make excellent Victorian railway lanterns, street lights, directional looking airship lights, underwater beacons, etc., etc!
My lantern/diving helm might look strange in the landscape, unless you consider it from the point of view of this theme...Victorian Industrial Steampunk. Then it's purpose in the landscape can be anything from vents for some underground complex, equipment left behind by some failed expedition or anything you want to put your imagination to. One thing for sure, you should be able to put them to more use alongside my other weird and multi-functional blocks than ever you would as a simple Halloween pumpkin!
This idea of 'multifunctionality' underpins my approach to all the blocks in Glimmar's Steampunk, even the humble dirt block. I could make it look more like real dirt/soil, but then I'd lose it's use as another 'architectural' building block, in this case something like red sandstone. Stone, cobble, gravel, even dirtgrass are purposefully designed to be useable in as many other ways than just their naturally occurring states, so by necessity seem more plain than some other packs.
The 'multifunctionality' of blocks is the reason why glass is the way it is...once the only block that can second as wrought ironwork scaffolding as well as a window, but now we have iron bars and I've made those as utilitarian as possible too.
'Individual' blocks like the furnace, craftbench, bed, etc. can have more imaginative detail applied for use as gizmos, but still be relatively clear in their purpose. However, for me they must still have as many other uses as possible in a Steampunk world besides their normal Minecraft function. My 'paintings' in the art folder haven't escaped my peculiar view of Minecraft's possibilities either, hence lots of gadgets, pipes and chains...you can just do a lot more with functional looking things than a nice looking painting that looks a bit strange if you repeat it all over your world, and this is coming from someone who is a landscape painter in real life. The paintings do need updating though.
My other imperative is to try to make the textures work as well as possible when seen from a distance, as would be needed for epic builds. This is what inspires me about Minecraft, rather than 'spelunking cottage style adventuring' - hence my adherence so far to 32x32, and as far as is humanly possible for me...'good tiling'.
If you are trying my pack for the first time, try not to compare it unfavourably with the normal look of Minecraft, as this is after all a 'steampunk' theme pack, not a medieval or modern day realistic texture pack and I've always tried to remain faithful to my original ideas without getting too silly by sticking cogs and pipes on absolutely everything.
Lol! I'm beginning to think this is 'adventure season'. You're the third person on this page currently working on an adventure. Best wishes for it's success. :smile.gif:

Mmmm...typical! it seems another update from Mojang is upon us. What happened to the coding freeze?
Version 1.9.5 was released a few hours ago. There was I thinking I might have time to nip out at midnight and avail myself of an early copy of Battlefield 3. :sad.gif:
Well I'll just have to have a look through and see if there's anything urgent and see if the MC Patcher has kept pace.
I don't know, it's happened with a lot of the other threads I've seen blocked, maybe they have started deleting them instead.
Oh well, thanks anyway, mate.
Have just looked through the Minecraft 1.9.5 update and can't see anything new (no new gui's, mobs, items, terrain blocks)...perhaps just bugfixes then, but still no sound for the chests?
Anyone know if I've missed anything obvious...I usually do? Please post and let me know then I can up the prefix on my forum thread title to 1.9.5. Thanks folks.
[edit] Seems to work fine with the latest MC Patcher too.

Haha! You're all slave drivers! :biggrin.gif:
it's a pity cuz i wanted to ask the same question. DeadBeyond outstripped me
C'mon Glimmar :biggrin.gif: We are all want to see how do you make your awesome textures :smile.gif: I think you don't need to talk or show yourself, only draw!
Pleeease :biggrin.gif:

Curse PremiumHaha!
:smile.gif:
It will delay the v 3.1 upload a bit tonight, but I'll add that in too. When I did my version of the music discs, I doggedly stuck to the colour coding set by Notch, thinking there was some significance to his choice of colours. Now I know differently, I'll make them more distinguishable if I can.
Glad you like them, d95. :smile.gif:
Right, back to those music disc/rolls and then to upload the fixes...back as soon as I can.
Sure, I quite understand you. Nevermind :biggrin.gif:

Curse PremiumGlimmar's Steampunk Texture Pack version 3.1
for Minecraft 1.8.1 up to pre-release 1.9 version 4
download here:Glimmar's Steampunk v3.1 on MediaFire
Full use of this pack requires the latest version of 'MCPATCHER' MC Patcher link.
Have fun. :smile.gif:
...just updating the OP.

Curse PremiumOh, it is, mate.
:tongue.gif: also, when will the customiser be out?
love the green lava by the way
Anyway I want to make a Steampunk adventure map centered around your pack.

Curse PremiumGlad you like the pack and the green lava.
Sorry mate. :sad.gif:
My Website. I make mods for Minecraft and am also making my own game.
it's all good.

Curse PremiumThat sounds mighty interesting, but I'd have to point you to the reply I gave to Wulf_Oman above. With regret I haven't any spare time to take on any texturing work other than just trying to keep this pack updated. :sad.gif:
Sorry, mate
Haha - it does sound like a lot of work there, Wulf.
I will look out for the completed adventure then. Perhaps I can open up a section in my OP to cover adventures.
Anyone reading this better not get the idea that that means I will be texturing for adventures though. Lol! My statements above still apply, I simply don't have the time to make more textures than just those I'm working on for my basic pack. Sorry folks.
:smile.gif:
Thanks for sharing, PATR101.
I clicked on your link, but the forums just say it can't find it. Perhaps it's already been dealt with.
Thanks, mate. :smile.gif:

Curse PremiumOh well, thanks anyway, mate.
