May I use the diamond drill? If you could scale it down to just a few frames, then even better, but still great as it is. Both the drill and chainsaw have really come in to their own now with just a little bit of movement...wonderful. Thank you also for sharing.
I will put your other animations in the 'extras' download and start a new exciting animation section. I'm sorry I couldn't use the redstone torch in the pack, because I've done a completely new one and already animated it and the glowstone I currently have in the pack is my preferred choice with the old swirly glass look, but others may prefer yours and will be able to choose to drop it in the pack from the extras.
This new animated terrain and item option that kahr has introduced has got me thinking that it could also be used as a way of selecting my alternate textures, for those not familiar with a graphic editor...at least until I have time to transfer stuff to the Customiser. :smile.gif:
It would require an equally gargantuan amount of work, but if each of my alternate terrain textures was cutout and given a custom_terrain number title (or more, if they were ambiguous) then they could just be dropped into the root of my zip pack and MC Patcher would replace the standard texture with the one of your choice. And if anyone had the motivation to add a little animation to any of those alternates, then all the more fantastic. :blink.gif:
Well there's the obvious question about MC Patcher, but I'm sure you're used to applying the correct version by now. Other than that, have you tried using a fresh download of Minecraft after backing up and then deleting your bin from .minecraft?
I have quirky goings on with my old NewGlim world, in that certain things like the repeaters are just black in some areas and sometimes I can illuminate them with a torch and they're back to normal and other times, even if I delete and replace them, they still stay black!? Those are minor issues though, when compared to what you're experiencing.
I've kind of got used to transferring my buildings from world to world to take advantage of all the new stuff, but it's a pain to have to do.
Have you tried the wiki for known probs?
So I'm not much help, Graveshadow, sorry! :sad.gif:
Hope you get it sorted.
I tried what you suggested but it didnt work. As for wiki I couldn't find anything related to my issue. It's weird and annoying that I cannot play my map with 1.9 v4
I've been otherwise occupied since yesterday, walking in the hills around Malham here in the UK (Gordale Scar and Malham Cove...Google to see what they look like) + taking lots of photographs...a nice break from the concentration of working on custom_terrain animations (all timing, numbers and cutting and pasting). So my apologies for not moving apace with the update. :sad.gif:
However, I'm going to try to put what I've accumulated so far together (even though nowhere near finished) and update tonight! This hopefully will releave the pressure off me slightly, so I'm free to not rush the creative side of updating the rest of the 1.9 v4 stuff. Otherwise, especially with all the new animations, I'm just going to carry on fiddling and editing forever! :blink.gif:
The update tonight will make the pack fully playable with version 4, with lots of new stuff, including the new animation contributions and my own animations too...I managed to get the potions stand and the repeater nicely animated as well as the other stuff previously mentioned (redstone pipes, redstone torches, enchantment table), but there are still lots of default 1.9v4 things I've just not had time to convert.
I'm purposefully not looking at any posts above, folks...sorry...so's I can get the update up without distraction. Once it's up, I'll look and see if I've missed any dire warnings about updating or something! lol! :biggrin.gif:
heres an idea for the ender portal for. change the ender eye into an contraption of some sort and make it so that it slots into the frame and it might look like something that would home onto the portal frame
Still haven't had chance to play with the ender portal yet. so haven't done any work on it at all...don't want to rush it until I've had a walk round it, but like you suggest I will probably make something that looks 'contraptiony' rather than 'fantasy'...it just seems appropriate for this theme and I also think it makes it possible to use the steampunk blocks more creatively in your builds.
For example, wait 'till you see my new animated potions stand in a while. Having found that I can stack them to make a 'power' tower, they have become something more than just an alchemical potion stand. :smile.gif:
I'm really lovin' what the new animation facility that MC Patcher provides is capable of doing for this theme. For example, at last my bed (not yet animated) will come into it's own as a time machine gizmo or Frankenstein re-animation table, also making it more useful as a component in many sci-fi builds. I've got some ideas I'm working on, but it just takes an age to realize it with the amount of work involved in animating unusual glows, cogs and what not.
I'm running late tonight packaging everything up, uploading pics, updating the OP and writing a changelog, etc, but I'm still going to upload before I go to bed, even if it means seeing the dawn in! Lol. :blink.gif:

Glimmar's Steampunk v3.0 for 1.9 v4 Changelog:
Completely new set of 8 moon phases - each moon is unique in colour and style to add a touch of mystery to the night. One of the phases includes my old moon graphic, as I just couldn't part with it! Have lowered the size and resolution for optimisation and to a better scale.
Lower resolution lava, water and portal custom animations. My previous custom_water_still was rendering at 128x (because stupidly I'd left it at 128x pixel size and didn't think it would have much effect on performance!)and if I understand kahr's MC Patcher info, this was causing everything in my pack to be upscaled to 128x !!! No wonder many of you were experiencing severe lag, even though this purports to be a 32x pack. Speed for less powerful machines should now be much improved.
Re-edited the chest and large chest textures to finally rid us of the dreaded flickery lid edge. Needed to rejig things to allow for a black zone at the opening where the top and bottom of the chest overlap. Added new shading to give a more 3-dimensional feel.
Removed some raindrops from the rain.png texture. Hasn't made much difference, so I will probably edit a few more drops out to make the rain less 'torrential'.
Updated the particles.png sheet...some things still to finish off, but note that the enchantment symbols are now glowing green to fit the theme.
New terrain.png textures:
Brass potions stand.
Enchantment table.
Redstone torch. Now appears more early industrial and less 'exotic'
New wood plank block to even out the iron 'banding' for both sides and to better tile with the new bookcase block.
New bookcase block. Tried for something that was more ambiguous for things like: alchemist cabinet, bookshelf, letter/ticket sorting racks, etc. Perhaps even for use as a structural block - windows, building, etc. Includes iron-banding, like the woodplank block, for compatibility with said wood block.
Unpowered repeater still needs editing to be properly compatible with the animated powered version.
Added Notch's pre-release v.4 terrain textures as upscaled cut'n'paste versions where necessary.
New item.png textures:
Sparkly melon slice.
Steampunk potion bottle.
Potion bottle liquid content.
Throwing potion bottle.(?)
Potion stand icon.
added Notch's pre-release v.4 item textures as upscaled cut'n'paste versions where necessary.
New custom_terrain animations (requires MC Patcher 2.2.0 and above):
Enchantment Table - moving cogs, vandograph style top and rotating central diamond.
Potions Stand - green power pulse through the stem into the arms of the stand and glowing potion bottles.
Repeater - red glowing warning light, flickering gauge and directional red pulsing gauge.
Redstone Torch - with very subtle power flicker so as not to be overly distinguishable when large numbers are on view over distance.
Redstone Brass Pipes - with pulsing energy glow, the straight and crossed versions are set at a different pulse rate to add some kind of limited randomness to the 'flow'.
I'm halfway through animating the control side of the pistons, but sadly didn't have time to finish it for this update. A lot of work to get it right.
Further delightful custom_terrain animations based on my original textures are included (until I can replace with my own) by kind permission of PATR101:
Furnace.
Craftbench.
Powered Rail.
Detector Rail.
Music Box.
Clever little Custom_item animations based on my original textures are included by kind permission of PATR101 and Wulf_Oman and based on Vondell's original tool textures:
Diamond Drill Pickaxe - first uploaded by Wulf_Oman but improved version included by PATR101.
Diamond Chainsaw Axe - first uploaded by PATR101, but improved version included by PATR101.
Further custom animations and mods that have been uploaded to my thread, will be included in the next updated 'extras' download, as soon as I can find time to update, or you could look back through my thread for all those missing little treasures! Sorry folks. :sad.gif:
There's probably other changes and edits, but at the time of compiling this changelog I can't remember, and I'm not organised enough to keep a record of changes as I make them.
A few pics of the new stuff.
My new Enchantment Table, Potions Stand, Repeater, Redstone Torches and Bookcase...all except the bookcase are animated:
My new atmospherically coloured moon phase textures:
My latest items.png sheet
....and a reminder of my unanimated potions stand and enchantment table.
Also, my apologies if I've got something majorly wrong as it's very late and I'm jiggered from walking in the hills (creative mode wasn't available in Malham!)
Good luck, once your done I hope you could give me an opinion on my question from the previous page.
I will try to catch up tomorrow, mate. Desperately need some sleep now, but if all is as well as can be regarding my v3.0 update, then I'll have a trawl back through the posts. :smile.gif:
I'm a read-a-holic and I have a problem. so I usually see the dawn in, it's not good for my health but great for my brain!
Haha! Same here. :smile.gif: I spend too much time reading into the wee small hours, but with a young 'en that wakes up at the crack of dawn full of the joys of spring, I have to try and top up my sleep reserves occasionally. :biggrin.gif:
Sorry to keep you all waiting tonight and for taking so long to update for the 1.9v4 update, herewith:
-snip-
Amazing update! I love the new potion stands and the enchanting table looks just perfect! I know you don't know what to do with the ender portal blocks, but it looks a bit weird with 32x yellow stone running into 16x metallic stuff. Can you explain the moon phases though? I don't understand how that can happen. And the new redstone repeater really looks like its a part of some big complex machine!

Also, you're really confusing me... I can't tell whether you're ~30 and really sarcastic or ~50 and just really awesome!
Hello! Finally decided to get the 1.9 pre-release, been testing it with your latest update, and I have to say, it looks great!
In other news, I had found a while back on changing the splash screen for the main menu. If you have any free time, might I suggest that you find a good panoramic spot in your world for creating a splash screen? Probably too much to ask right now, as you're busy with animations, but it may be a good way for you to take a break from all that and just take a leisurely stroll around your creations. It'll also give those people who keep asking for your world a small taste of some highlights of your build.
I think you know what to do with them, oddbaall, but if anyone else would like to have green acidic lava to match the green flame particles, torches and furnace, then just copy the contents of the above download (make sure they are still called 'custom_lava_flowing' and 'custom_lava_still') into the root of my texture pack (overwriting the standard custom_lava strips...keep a copy of the original if you want to change back) and your lava will be converted to deadly polluted green acid!!
Just made me think. Is anyone interested in green fire too? :smile.gif:
Yahoo, this day has come. I was waiting for update so long )The alchemy and enchantement tables are amazing!Every time you update your pack you prove - You are the True God of Pixelart!Great job!
Haha! You are very kind, but I think the true king of pixel art is John Smith. I just like messing about with machine possibilities and steampunk gizmos in the basic texture pack. Besides which, you did amazingly well with your contributions and showed me just how cool a simple spinning cog could be...now the possibilities there are endless.

Lots of questions there, Keto888. :smile.gif:
Glad you like the new stuff, though. I'll get on to fiddling with the Ender Portal and the pistons, now a little pressure as eased. Still you could look at the presence of the current ender portal blocks as reminder of what your Minecraft would look like without HD texture packs. :biggrin.gif:
I did the moon to cycle through different colours as well as phases purely and simply to add a little atmospheric variety to your steampunk nights. You could say that atmospheric conditions, industrial pollution and moon distance might all have an effect on the appearance, size and colour of the moon, but I just wanted to create something that looked a little sci-fi otherworldy and helped to easily distinguish one night from another. I also wanted to keep my original moon, as I'd put a lot of work into it, and optimise the size of the textures, because I'm a little more aware now of how much the textures can make the game lag for some of you.
As regards my age, I'm mighty glad you have 50 and awesome in the same sentence! :biggrin.gif: Yes, I am fairly ancient. I'm sure there are many who are older, but I reckon I am one of the oldest around here, though I'll not put an exact figure on it (I can still beat my 15yr old in short sprint! A very short sprint!!).
You could say I invest all my aging process into my texture pack and thus stay young and handsome like 'A Picture of Dorian Gray', but sadly it's very much the other way around. All the sleepless nights beavering away on this pack and Minecraft have probably aged me more than anything else I know. :dry.gif:

Thanks, ksheep. Glad you like the changes.
Does that mean most of the mods have been updated now or are you just switching back and forth?
Haha! Believe it or not the current splash screen I have in the pack is taken from my NewGlim world, just a more open area where I have some experimental structural work and laboratories going, (hah! sounds very grand a technical!).
I tried floating in the middle of my dockland a while back and taking clips on the four points of the compass and above and below, but it came out a bit too busy and confusing in that out of focus style. I'll have another go though when I get the chance. :smile.gif:
I need to transfer a lot of my buildings from previous edits and do a lot of tidying up from texture experiments, but I still intend to make some more guided tour/theme vids at some stage. I just need to make it a little more impressive before eventually releasing it on the world. Also I think I'm scared that if I release my world I might lose interest in continuing to build in it. :huh.gif:
why are the bricks going like this? just asking other than that thanks for this texture pack
You definately need to apply the MC Patcher. Look back in my OP for instructions and warnings...right next to the download link for this pack!
If you're only familiar with using vanilla Minecraft or 16x texture packs you may not be aware that all texture packs of a higher resolution than 16x16 pixels need the MC Patcher programme to fix graphical glitches (like fire on brick and gold, etc), but also to add wonderful new custom animation textures.
Notch allows HD texture packs to run with Minecraft, but steadfastly refuses to 'support' them. Along came the likes of kahr who gives true choice of how we play and perceive Minecraft by providing the now very well known 'MC Patcher'.
IF you can't find the link in my OP, check the 'stickied' threads at the top of the Texture Pack Section of these forums and you'll find it there. It's worth knowing where it is, then you can check it regularly for updates.
Glad you like my pack though. :smile.gif:
Just thought I'd answer those posts, then later today (I'm off to see 'Contagion' at the theatre soon! Yippee!) I'll check back through all the other posts I missed yesterday and beyond. I may not be about for a few days as I usually do something special for Halloween in the half term hols.
Actually it was regarding armour, I was just curious as to your plans with armour so I could try to whip up some alternatives than the three current near identical options.
Well, I will definately be returning to finish them off and make them more unique. As you probably know the leather and iron armour are distinct, but the gold and silver were added, with different powerpacks on the back (and colour of course) based on the iron armour. Simply because I thought that was at least better than sticking with the 16x vanilla armour. They're certainly not finished though.
As mentioned in my OP, I'm not looking directly to add any contributions into the pack (the custom block animations being a recent exception), but feel free to edit the gold and diamond armour and upload here for folks to use, mate. When I get my act together I'll get back onto the armour and anything you do will certainly not be wasted or forgotten with my 'extras' download and intended use of the Minecraft Customiser. You know as long as it's in the 'extras' or if included in the Customiser I will properly credit folk with the work they do. Though I hate all the admin side of keeping my texture pack updated. Lol! :biggrin.gif:

I'm glad my animations were useful. I don't like John Smiths TP any more. My Frankenstein pack was based on John Smith's one. But more he updates his pack, the more I do not like it. Some time ago i've replaced his ores and stone with yours one, only a few his elements left.
Yay! 1.9pre4 is here, but I got the same problem as pre3. I thought pre4 would fix it... It's the hearts from the hardcore mode, they are different from the regular hearts and they still appear as purple blocks. Something to check out for the next update :smile.gif:

Just switching back at forth at the moment. Haven't checked to see if the individual mods are updated yet, but I know that the compilation pack is still only for 1.7_3 ¬_¬
Also… I guess I didn't see that you had changed the splash screen. I had only glanced at it after applying the texture pack, and it was facing an unbuilt area that looked a lot like the default… Now that I watch it all the way round, it is very definitely your area (I think I recognize one of those towers).
However, you could offer two or three different versions from different locations in the extras pack, if you've got time. :tongue.gif:
Glimmer i would love to see how you make you textures, like i have here:and all you have to do is speed it up and then post it on youtube, it will help me out alot since my texture pack died and to see how you make your textures would help me out
Haha! Video tutorials aren't really my sort of thing, DeadBeyond and I'd have to enjoy doing something like that to even consider it. First, I'm painfully shy in front of a camera and would end up tongue tied, secondly, they take way too long to make and I'd never get anything done on the pack and the way I work, which is incredibly slow and laborious, would not make good viewing! :sad.gif:

Pssquadou. Please accept my abject apologies! Having never looked at Hardcore, I wasn't aware of the extra set of hearts on the icons.png sheet and the problem when playing...even though I cursorily glanced at that graphic to see if anything new had been added...it's obvious now! Then again, I'm not noted for being very observant. :smile.gif:
Bear with me on this...shouldn't take long...and I'll get a new update in the OP before the night is out, UK time. Sorry about that and thanks for the pic. Keep a look out, I won't make a big fanfare, but I'll change the version number when it's ready for download and post a notice. :smile.gif:
I get too wrapped up in Creative now, but sometime I think I'd like to give hardcore mode a try, it should significantly change how precious resources and life and limb and thus the realism of surviving would be.
Lol, I want to try out Battlefield 3 soon, but Minecraft has way too many aspects to it to even consider any alternative gaming. :biggrin.gif:
For all those who dont like the drips from the lava or water the easy way to get rid of them is to go into the texture pack, go to particles and delete the three pictures below the two water drops
Yes, exactly so! The hardcoding Notch introduced in the 1.8 version is a real pain, for those drops especially, even more annoying for you with the green lava. I love the action of the drips with the standard lava colour, but that horrible hard-coded neon blue water is a real downer.
I had hoped kahr might change this aspect in his MC Patcher, but we'll just have to wait and see.
I'll upload an alternative particles.png, hopefully tonight if I remember, that just needs dropping straight into the texture pack.
The 'Contagion' movie was ok by the way, quiet believable, if not much of a story, just standard disaster movie fair, but acted and directed very well.
Just switching back at forth at the moment. Haven't checked to see if the individual mods are updated yet, but I know that the compilation pack is still only for 1.7_3 ¬_¬

it's a pity cuz i wanted to ask the same question. DeadBeyond outstripped me
C'mon Glimmar :biggrin.gif: We are all want to see how do you make your awesome textures :smile.gif: I think you don't need to talk or show yourself, only draw!
Pleeease :biggrin.gif:
I may not be Glimmar, but I heartily recommend Herbert West—Reanimator, followed by the history of the Necronomincon, The nameless city, The other gods, and The Disinterment. Those are a few of my favourites.
(1)'Gasm over new update before release (2) Declare Minecraft is dead after release (3) notice new update on horizon - Go to (1)

Just updating the OP...
I will try to catch up tomorrow, mate. Desperately need some sleep now, but if all is as well as can be regarding my v3.0 update, then I'll have a trawl back through the posts. :smile.gif:
Haha! Same here. :smile.gif: I spend too much time reading into the wee small hours, but with a young 'en that wakes up at the crack of dawn full of the joys of spring, I have to try and top up my sleep reserves occasionally. :biggrin.gif:
The alchemy and enchantement tables are amazing!
Every time you update your pack you prove - You are the True God of Pixelart!
Great job!
It'll also give those people who keep asking for your world a small taste of some highlights of your build.
why are the bricks going like this? just asking other than that thanks for this texture pack
I smiled at the request, oddbaall, because when I woke up this morning two thoughts rushed me.
1. I didn't check the pack through to make sure I hadn't left anything in I shouldn't have.
2. Green acidic lava 32x! I bet Oddbaall posts about that! :biggrin.gif:
Here you go.
Glimmar's Green Acidic Custom Lava 32x Animation Strips
I think you know what to do with them, oddbaall, but if anyone else would like to have green acidic lava to match the green flame particles, torches and furnace, then just copy the contents of the above download (make sure they are still called 'custom_lava_flowing' and 'custom_lava_still') into the root of my texture pack (overwriting the standard custom_lava strips...keep a copy of the original if you want to change back) and your lava will be converted to deadly polluted green acid!!
Just made me think. Is anyone interested in green fire too? :smile.gif:
:huh.gif:
Glad you like the latest update! :smile.gif:
I'm glad my animations were useful. I don't like John Smiths TP any more. My Frankenstein pack was based on John Smith's one. But more he updates his pack, the more I do not like it. Some time ago i've replaced his ores and stone with yours one, only a few his elements left.
And i got some new ideas for animations )

Just switching back at forth at the moment. Haven't checked to see if the individual mods are updated yet, but I know that the compilation pack is still only for 1.7_3 ¬_¬
Also… I guess I didn't see that you had changed the splash screen. I had only glanced at it after applying the texture pack, and it was facing an unbuilt area that looked a lot like the default… Now that I watch it all the way round, it is very definitely your area (I think I recognize one of those towers).
However, you could offer two or three different versions from different locations in the extras pack, if you've got time. :tongue.gif:
Haha! You're all slave drivers! :biggrin.gif:
it's a pity cuz i wanted to ask the same question. DeadBeyond outstripped me
C'mon Glimmar :biggrin.gif: We are all want to see how do you make your awesome textures :smile.gif: I think you don't need to talk or show yourself, only draw!
Pleeease :biggrin.gif:
