Hi Glimmar. it's a second voice from Russia :biggrin.gif:
Your pack inspires me to build something big and fascinating. I like industrial buildings, and your textures are the best for this purpose .
You have so many alternative textures - why don't you make a customizer?
P.S. Your brewing stand is so nice btw! :smile.gif:
You proved me wrong as regards the tool animation. That chainsaw is superb! I didn't think the movement of the teeth by one pixel all round would have such a convincing effect, but yours works so well, I'm persuaded to keep the chainsaw in the pack...at least for a little while longer. :smile.gif: Your edit of my powered railtrack again is also a real treat, again simple, but oh so effective with the spinning cogs.
Until I get round to those individual custom_terrain .pngs, may I use these animations in my next update? As mentioned in my OP I'm not really looking to include work by others now directly in the pack, as I am working to finish it myself as intended, but I will make an exception for the animations until I can do my own, and yours are uncomplicated and very effective...just how I think the animated blocks should be. Too much going on will spoil the realism, apart from the odd special item. I will credit you of course and when I do my own, any I replace will go into the 'extras' download so folk can still use them if they prefer.
OMG.. I was not ready for that. Thanks. This was my first practice with pixel graphics and i'm happy you liked the animations.
Of course you can use them, this is a great achivment for me :happy.gif:
I have some ideas for lightstone and others, will try to realise them
Hah, they really looks the same, exept top tooths, and you's two frames slower
Why do you use such amount of frames? I think 4 frames will be perfect, and will free a liitle bit of memory.

Hello to you, RussianGuy. :smile.gif:
It feels like a Russian delegation has come over for a visit, lol, but seriously it's testament to the fact that Minecraft cuts across borders and all creative people have an urge to imagine...wherever we live! It's nice to meet you too. :biggrin.gif:
I'm glad the pack inspires you to build something big and industrial. As you describe, the pack was designed for that purpose and I've tried my best to create textures that can be used in different ways...not just their intended purpose...and with the minimum of unnatural repetitive patterning.
You'll have to read one of my previous posts for why I haven't yet used the Minecraft Customiser...basically, just lack of time! I've had lots of kind offers of help, but it's one of those things I want to set up myself, then it will get me in the habit of uploading new alternates there rather than just pasting them onto yet another spare terrain sheet! :smile.gif:
OMG.. I was not ready for that. Thanks. This was my first practice with pixel graphics and i'm happy you liked the animations. Of course you can use them, this is a great achivment for me ^_^I have some ideas for lightstone and others, will try to realise them
I do indeed like your animations, PATR101, and I'm glad you thought to share them!
You definately have a flair for timing, and what I particularly like is you haven't attempted to make the animations too busy with detail. I think subtlety is the essence of preventing the animations from becoming annoying ingame, and you seem to be very aware of this. As mentioned in my previous post, some things can afford to have more going on than others.
I've just finished animating my new redstone torch, and it has had to have the flickering I intended for it tempered right down to just a couple of very subtle flickers, otherwise when seen en-masse they looked very unconvincing. It had to be at the level where you just occasionally notice a slight flicker, but you don't tend to see the flicker from a distance. I use a lot of redstone torches in my builds for decoration and it would quickly look like a rock concert if the flicker was too noticeable from a distance. :biggrin.gif:
Hey Glimmar, if you ever wanna see what i did for your chainsaw and axe, along with the glowstone and redstone torch ingame. Here. Drill/Pickaxehttp://i.imgur.com/us7CJ.pngChainsaw/Axehttp://i.imgur.com/vhD5B.pngGlowstonehttp://i.imgur.com/zbkDo.pngRedstone Torchhttp://i.imgur.com/QJU7G.pngEdit: The chainsaw is the same as PATR's
Those are excellent too, Wulf.
May I use the diamond drill? If you could scale it down to just a few frames, then even better, but still great as it is. Both the drill and chainsaw have really come in to their own now with just a little bit of movement...wonderful. Thank you also for sharing.
I will put your other animations in the 'extras' download and start a new exciting animation section. I'm sorry I couldn't use the redstone torch in the pack, because I've done a completely new one and already animated it and the glowstone I currently have in the pack is my preferred choice with the old swirly glass look, but others may prefer yours and will be able to choose to drop it in the pack from the extras.
This new animated terrain and item option that kahr has introduced has got me thinking that it could also be used as a way of selecting my alternate textures, for those not familiar with a graphic editor...at least until I have time to transfer stuff to the Customiser. :smile.gif:
It would require an equally gargantuan amount of work, but if each of my alternate terrain textures was cutout and given a custom_terrain number title (or more, if they were ambiguous) then they could just be dropped into the root of my zip pack and MC Patcher would replace the standard texture with the one of your choice. And if anyone had the motivation to add a little animation to any of those alternates, then all the more fantastic. :blink.gif:

PATR101, I think you must be wired into my brain or something! :biggrin.gif: I could not have imagined animating the craftbench any differently, fabulous! ...and no annoying movements to edit out either. I will certainly use this also for the next update.
Yes the top of the craftbench consists of two large rotating cogs, but if you animate these I envisage their movement to be in random directions (as if rotating whatever is being formed inside the bench) and the movement to be slower than the cogs you animated on the side...if this is possible within the number of frames you've used overall.
Also, I envisage that the green grid, where items are formed as if by nano-magic, should have either swirling green fog slowly rising and falling in brightness, or some ambiguous ghostly green object/shape also rising and falling in brightness, or a combination of both those elements. This should appear to be underneath the grid, as if you are looking into the depths of the machine. A tall order and something I will work on if you find it's not your forte/strength.
I've also changed the top of the craftbench slightly, adding copper rather than brass pipes for a little contrasting colour. Here it is:
If you haven't the time or I'm ready to update, I'll use what you've done so far and include the top animation in a later update. :smile.gif:
You have freed me up to spend more time on further animating my potions stand and enchantment table. I'm also wanting to add some subtle sparkle effects to the diamond, redstone and gold ores and add a slow pulsing glow to the redstone pipe. So instead of waffling here...I better get on. Lol! :biggrin.gif:
When the above work is done the update should be worth releasing. Even though there will still be many things to upgrade, I want everyone to be able to play with the new stuff for 1.9 v4 and see all the nice little animations.
ps. I've changed the bookcase and the woodplanking to better fit together. The bookcase is more (wait for it) 'ambiguous', consisting of books (that could also be jars, or even curtains!) set behind a wooden framework of glass. It can therefore be used as a bookcase, alternate window, letter or ticket rack (as per railway ticket office), chemist's/alchemist's display cabinet or even as an alternate construction block. Not many people know this, but this pack's alternate name is 'Glimmar's Pack of Ambiguities'. :tongue.gif:
Taster pic of new redstone torch, bookcase and wood plank block:

And another HAHAHA, I already animated this grid, it taked loooots of frames, but i like so much what i got in the end
This evening i'll make a less framed animation and will move previous one to your updated texture.
I'm not shure i'll be able to make animated cogs moving in different directions, but i'll try )
By the way, some time ago i made a paintings with steampunk pictures. I's size x128. Can share it. Hope one day some of them will begin moving. I dreaming about animated painting "Hunting the mechano octopus".

There you go, I knew your were wired in somehow! :biggrin.gif:
Yes to move the cogs first a little one way and then back in the other direction slowly as if randomly, will take a lot of frames...so don't worry if it doesn't work. Failing that, slow movement of the cogs, one going in one direction and the second going in the other would be fine. Everyone will love it, I'm sure.
Yes, animated paintings I think would have been more useful than animated items. I'm sure kahr will oblige sometime, but all in moderation I think.
I LOVE THE NEW TORCH! it has a more industrial look and its C Li forgot to tell you something:you should really release yor world or create a server with your map as the servers map!its awesome, but we have only seen a small part of it.
Glad you like the torch! :smile.gif:
I went for an industrial, but Victorian/Steampunk brass style, something suitable for those Frankenstein laboratory settings, but still suitable for steampunk sci-fi. It better fits the style of my repeater too. However, I wasted quite a bit of time on getting the shading and light levels to work effectively between the on and off state.
Hah! I'd be too ashamed of my world at the moment. Trying to keep up with Notch with what small time I have, doesn't leave me much time to do little but use the world as a test bed. Having to continually transfer my buildings from world to world to take advantage of new biomes, etc. further stalls my ambitions of world domination! :biggrin.gif:
--------------
Tried animating the gold ore and concluded that what I'd done for the gold would look better applied to the diamond ore. I'm not sure it's possible to do the ores effectively without creating disco dance effects, as all the ores in view obviously twinkle with the same pattern. :blink.gif:
I will try with the diamond ore and try to create a sufficiently random twinkle that is not easy to distinguish as a pattern when more than one ore is side by side. It may only be available as an option rather than standard, as I sometimes like to use the ores in my builds and couldn't stand these things twinkling all the time.
I think for this theme time is better spent on animating the mechanical/functional blocks.
And here is the animated crafting table's top.
I'm failed making 40 frames animation, it's about 1,5 secons. no time to make different animations
custom_terrain_43.png http://i.imgur.com/rt74h.png
This animation has 200 frames, one of the cogs rotating in one direction with the same speed, the second one rotating faster and faster and faster, then slows down, stops and begin rotating other side (or the same, use eyes and imagination).
My friend tested fully animated crafting table and said it looks like anicient PDA )))
Tryed Wulf_Oman's drill, but my eyes got tired of auger's flashing. So i decided to create my own

It's half-term holiday here in the UK, so everyone is home for the hols and my time is squeezed even more than usual. So between ferrying offspring around and chasing escaped animals, cleaning up after builders, etc. it's not leaving much time for Minecraft! :sad.gif: All I had to show for my time yesterday was the addition of a little spinning diamond in the centre of the new enchantment table and some work on animating the redstone pipe...and that was a hard slog! Now, onto some spinny things and a bit of glow.
So again, my apologies for the lack of progress on the update...I'm going as fast as real life allows...honestly. :unsure.gif:

You did wonderful, PATR101. The cog movement is particularly excellent and has me scratching my head at your ingenuity. Definately an example of "economy of motion".
I like the green glow too, but not exactly what I had in mind, so I will change it eventually to...something moving around inside, if that's possible, but I doff my hat to you and call you the 'Cog King' of steampunk animation. :biggrin.gif:
I also like the diamond drill with the little flashy light, so if Wulf will forgive me, I might include your drill in the next update.
you should make some texture for balkon's mods. I use the HD textures but they don't look steampunk enouth[to fantasyish]. some ideas for textures:musket= same as the musket in steamcraftflail=battle harpoonblowpipe and dart= airgun [with a tough bamboo handle] and cynide bulletcrossbow= upgraded glimmar bowcannon= something like a maxim gun or ww1 atielary
NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! HOW CAN SUCH AN AMAZING MAN HAVE THESE PROBLEMS?
Hah! You don't know the half of it, mate. :dry.gif:
As you've probably noticed though, I'm good at complaining (I'm getting practice in for being a grumpy old man...I regularly practice shaking a walking stick in the air!), and it's not me having to go to hospital! :smile.gif:
So...back to a little animation work before making holiday snacks all round and hope this post makes some kind of sense. :blink.gif:
Have a good weekend, folks.
[edit] Found this pic yesterday:
If I ever get the time to just build again, the above is what I will be including somewhere in my world!

Haha! Nice work again. Will use the new items, and the furnce is very nice, but I can't use it in the pack unless it's green :sad.gif: ...just my preference and because it's linked to the green particles for green gas lamps, etc. When I've time, I can change it to green and add a little movement to the flames.
As mentioned, don't take offence at what goes in and what gets left out of the pack. All your work is excellent, but I have to remain true to how I want the pack to look. :smile.gif:

I don't take offence (if i understand correct what you said), i wasn't even thinking any my animation will get into your pack, i'm sharing them with everyone, may be someone will like them and will use. I was very surpried to see that you'll use my animations.

In this pack i used old furnace from yours alt textures with red flames ) Today i made a new one )
*snatches the screenshot and uses it as my desktop background* :cool.gif: Also, I'd say more TotalHalibut, you're both dealing with great amount of stress, and one of your family has been in hospital recently. (that second half sounded slightly stalkish.. I swear I don't!)
Wasn't really familiar with TotalBiscuit/TotalHalibut until today...will have to watch some more. I speak a lot slower than that unless I'm shouting at the kids! :biggrin.gif:
Haha! I'm used to be in and out of hospital with the youngest...almost a second home, but it gets a bit more stressful when my other half needs treatment too and on the same days!! Life is never dull. :biggrin.gif:
The 'Chasm City' pic appealed to me as soon as I saw it as a possible project for our favourite game. Don't know if any of you are familiar with the sci-fi author Alastair Reynolds, but his chasm city (built inside a massive asteroid or moon I think) features in a few of his stories and most of his writing I'd class as leaning heavily towards steampunk (just less of the steam). Well worth reading for ideas and just plain amazing concepts and plots. I didn't look in to whether the above pic was based on his books.

That green furnace is definately more to my liking (though I'm sure many will disagree! Lol).
I'm very glad to be able to use your animations, PATR101, they are very good indeed and are a great help, until in my own slow and steady way I get round to doing something I can call my own. I will always be happy to offer them, even if I change things, and they will always be identified as your work as long as I do. It's important that folk get proper credit. :smile.gif:
I like the sound of your 'Frankenstein' pack. I grew up on old British and US horror movies and I guess those movies influenced some of the things in this pack. A lot of steampunk today harks back to those stories obviously because of the time period many of them were set in.
how is the work on the custom animations going glimmar? :tongue.gif:
Haha (nervous laugh), very slowly, mate, but I'm keenly aware I don't sit around too long before releasing an update. I'm not as fast as PATR101 above and circumstances continue to conspire against me. :sad.gif:
I know this isn't about your texture pack but you my fellows are pretty smart so I thought I would ask you. I recently got the prerelease 1.9 v4 however after installing it I cannot load my map that I have been working on. The screen just goes completely black. It allows me to make a new map and when I force updated it back to 1.8.1 the map worked. Any ideas on how I can get my map to work with the prerelease? Or am I doing something wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well there's the obvious question about MC Patcher, but I'm sure you're used to applying the correct version by now. Other than that, have you tried using a fresh download of Minecraft after backing up and then deleting your bin from .minecraft?
I have quirky goings on with my old NewGlim world, in that certain things like the repeaters are just black in some areas and sometimes I can illuminate them with a torch and they're back to normal and other times, even if I delete and replace them, they still stay black!? Those are minor issues though, when compared to what you're experiencing.
I've kind of got used to transferring my buildings from world to world to take advantage of all the new stuff, but it's a pain to have to do.
Have you tried the wiki for known probs?
So I'm not much help, Graveshadow, sorry! :sad.gif:

Check out my Zelda Adventure Modpack, currently in alpha!

Look at my avatar. A few of you may know what this is from. Most will not. Probably because it shut down several years ago. But those were fun times while they lasted.

Thanks, TheMineMaster2. :smile.gif:
Some big improvements in the next update tell your dad (just as soon as I can get myself organised!).
Optimised custom animated lava and water, etc. to speed things up for those with lower powered machines. New custom_terrain and item animation edits courtesy of PATR101 and myself, new moon phases (subtle moon colour changes as well as moon phases). New enchantments table (now animated...at last finished!), new potions stand...will try to animate before my next update. Some more edits to the terrain and items, now long since forgotten due to struggles with animating stuff! :biggrin.gif:
So worth a check in from time to time to see if it's updated. :smile.gif:

Love the musicbox. Beautiful work and very effective!
Nice little touch to the crossbow at full tension.
The glowstone though I'll make available in the 'extras'. Very nice rise and fall in brightness, but I find in my builds where I use it for lamps, windows, etc. it looks strange when everything pulsates at the same time. I tend to overuse that block I'm afraid. :sad.gif:
Many thanks for all these clever little offerings, PATR101. Much appreciated :smile.gif:.
I figured the secret of the cog animation and it's simple ingenuity that uses just two distinct frames to create any speed of movement. The fine tuning of the light levels of each of the cog teeth is critical to how the movement is perceived. So I had a lot of fun with rotating cogs when I should have been finishing stuff off...sorry folks!
The 'extras' needs updating big time. Lots of stuff has been uploaded in my thread over the past couple of months or more, and trying to keep up with Notch's updates has left no time to housekeep all those generous offerings. :sad.gif:
I will get on to it, but I'm afraid the pack has to take priority with the limited time I have.
Now to sleep. zzzzzzzzzz

Curse PremiumHello to you, RussianGuy.
:smile.gif:
HAHAHA May be yes, may be no. I'm a system administrator and a former hacker )

Curse PremiumThere you go, I knew your were wired in somehow!
I'm failed making 40 frames animation, it's about 1,5 secons. no time to make different animations

So i decided to create my own

and another one with flashing power indicator (20 frames)

Curse PremiumSo again, my apologies for the lack of progress on the update...I'm going as fast as real life allows...honestly.
Haha! If only I had the time, mate. :sad.gif:
Definately Grizwold from National Lampoon series at the moment, but otherwise an unrefined totalbiscuit! :biggrin.gif:
Thanks!
I made furnace with red flame, like it much more than green one
And here is the animated one

Glad you liked the flashy lite on the drill, here is little updated variant. I moved drill little forward, think it looks more interesting now. and recolored power bar.

Curse PremiumHaha!
:smile.gif:
Thanks, PATR101. :smile.gif:
Thanks again )
I'll make a green furnace. A bit more practise with photoshop )
I don't take offence (if i understand correct what you said), i wasn't even thinking any my animation will get into your pack, i'm sharing them with everyone, may be someone will like them and will use. I was very surpried to see that you'll use my animations.
I'm making my own pack, using textures from different packs (named the pack Frankenstein), your's textures are dominating )) I'll never share anywhere this pack, so i don't ask autors their permissions. In this pack i used old furnace from yours alt textures with red flames ) Today i made a new one )
And here is animated green furnace )

Curse PremiumWasn't really familiar with TotalBiscuit/TotalHalibut until today...will have to watch some more.
Haha (nervous laugh), very slowly, mate, but I'm keenly aware I don't sit around too long before releasing an update. I'm not as fast as PATR101 above and circumstances continue to conspire against me. :sad.gif:

Curse PremiumWell there's the obvious question about MC Patcher, but I'm sure you're used to applying the correct version by now.
:sad.gif:
Hope you get it sorted.

Look at my avatar. A few of you may know what this is from. Most will not. Probably because it shut down several years ago. But those were fun times while they lasted.

Curse PremiumThanks, TheMineMaster2.
Now to sleep. zzzzzzzzzz
