Have you or anyone got a complete list of all the block numbers and which block they relate to? That would be most helpful and would save me some time.
[insert rant here]
...sorry for the rant! :smile.gif:
If you can redirect folk to download the pack from this thread, as per my licence, with instructions for installing any alterations you make for the purposes of your map, then I would not in principle object, but with the usual clear credit and link back to this thread.
in that case i think i will just suggest that they use your original one and link to you instead.
i know about all these numbers, but me and glimmar are talking about index id's.
this type of id shows where the texture of the block or item is on the terrain.png or item.png.
I am most sorry indeed, I haven't posted for a while and when I saw a question I thought I could answer I jumped at the chance! I guess I'm also so used to dealing with n00bs that I forgot that there are quite a few extremely experienced people out there!
That's interesting then, but probably more an advantage for 64x packs and up. If Notch and Jeb don't sit up and take note on the potential of animated blocks, paintings, etc. There really is no hope that higher res and kahr's work will be officially recognised.
This texture pack is beautiful. You sir, are a hero.
Thank you muchly, OmgsMeowMix. :smile.gif:
I'm lacking in time, but will steadily add and improve on things. My enjoyment of building with a Victorian/Steampunk/Industrial set of textures hasn't dwindled in over a year, and I can't see another sandbox game like Minecraft coming along that gives us this level of creativity and control. Yes, some of the bigger publishing houses may try to emulate it, but they'll never give us the users the same modding capabilities that Notch has allowed.
The experience is quite simply unique. Many :Diamond:'s to Notch and everyone riding the dream.
Hey Glimmar, would you mind if i made a 16x16 version of your texture pack, at the very least for my personal use and if you dub it good enough upload it to your current page as an alternative to your wonderful 32x32 version for us with lacking computers?
I don't mind, 5tyxandst0nes. Especially if your willing to upload here for everyone to use. Gestankfaust was working on a 16x version too, but I know he's as hard-pressed for time as I am. I may even have a go myself one day. :smile.gif:
If you're having trouble with my current pack, you may want to wait and try out my alternative 32x version with lower res custom animations. I think it will make a difference on your machine. :wink.gif:
Does Faust know about this animated textre stuff? Faust worked on a lot of diffrent animations.Glimmar, download a pack called "woah" from the mcpatcher thread.this texturepack acts like a stress test and it shows all the id's
I imagine he does if he's not away. I bet he will love the possibilities...he's a great tinkerer and knows as much as anyone about animation, certainly more than I.
I shall have a look at this 'woah' pack, thanks d95.
I am most sorry indeed, I haven't posted for a while and when I saw a question I thought I could answer I jumped at the chance! I guess I'm also so used to dealing with n00bs that I forgot that there are quite a few extremely experienced people out there!
It's nice your willing to help, mate. I thought after I'd posted that request that I might not have worded it clear enough to mean the index for kahr's animated blocks.
i very active on the forums now!im going to try to make a animated diving helmet with a green glow animation(does not change the color of the emitted light)i will upload it so glimmar can look at it.(and maybe edit it)
Haha! Just remember it's supposed to be multi-tasking (like a lot of my blocks) so I usually use it as an alternative directional lantern...like the old Victorian railway signal lanterns. If I get round to it, I'd make it a subtle flickery glow so it's not very noticeable unless your close up to it. :smile.gif:
A nice alternative for the diving helm lantern would be a green ghostly face flickering in and out of view like the trapped soul of a drowned diver (sounds horrible when I think of it now...no effence intended with that idea!).
I've always intended to put it up on the Customizer. It will just have to wait for a quiet time though. I've had some very generous offers of help, but it's something I've got to do myself to make sure the wealth of textures I have get put in the right places and so that I have the facility and practice to add more alternates myself.
I don't mind, 5tyxandst0nes. Especially if your willing to upload here for everyone to use. Gestankfaust was working on a 16x version too, but I know he's as hard-pressed for time as I am. I may even have a go myself one day. :smile.gif:

Cool thanks ill get right on it, but it will go along with my current texture pack im designing (it would have equal priority). But i dont have much going on at school right now so i have a lot of free time. And it's not just your texture pack my computer generally runs 32x and higher texture packs where its almost impossible to do anything while they are in full form.
D95's Halloween Pumpkin animation!hey! im now finished with the first versjon of the pumpkin lantern and i will probably change the animation a bit.(maby glimmar does)the texture was made by glimmar, but recolored and animated by me.i hope you enjoy the Halloween animation.Video:http://www.youtube.com/user/DAWH95turn up the sound(low volume)the video is laggy because fraps made the framerate go down to 11...fraps did also speed up the movie a bit.
Hey! Nice one, mate. I'll do something different when I get round to it, but you've got a nice subtle pulsing glow going there, good job indeed.
yes the patcher inculdes the ability to animate terrain and items soo i want to see a animated tools glimmer start work
Haha, I'm not as keen on animating the tools. As mentioned previously, at this resolution I'm thinking any movement will just highlight the limitations. You can prove me wrong though. :smile.gif:
If you mean your trying to find the right customizer...
Thanks, mate. :smile.gif:
I'm aware of the Minecraft Customizer though and have a short cut on my desktop, but with all the recent updates by Notch and my real life circumstances, I have to channel my limited time to just trying to keep up with my pack. Other projects, like mods and the customizer will just have to wait. :sad.gif:
So what does the animated diamond axe look like when moving, Wulf?
For all who are interested I found this over at the dokucraft saga thread Sorry I didn't post it sooner, it was made difficult to find as everything has kicked off over their. The sheets of animation are named something like custom_item_001 or custom_terrain_255 I'm not entirely sure but I would like to give it a go.
Brilliant! Thanks, LordofSax, that's exactly what I was after. Thanks, mate.
Haha, the dokucraft saga thread has a lot of busy input, so I imagine it will be a nightmare for the admin there with everyone offering little animations. What has kahr started...animation season? Lol! :biggrin.gif:
The custom lava and water, etc require a lot of work, but the little block animations make nice little manageable projects. At this rate they'll end up slightly eclipsing the official release of Minecraft! On that note, I believe there are no longer going to be any more pre-release updates until MineCon, which to be honest is a bit of a relief for the likes of me.
Have fun, mate!
Well, as regards lag, etc. When I did my custom animations, I made them at least 64x, and in the case of my custom_water_flowing.png it was left at 128x !!! Now as I understand it, kahr's MC Patcher upgrades everything in the pack to the same resolution as the highest custom animation. So effectively my pack is 128x simply because of that one animation strip.
I'm about to upload a version of the pack, which will probably become my standard, where all the animations are no greater than 32x. gui's and mobs are still at different resolutions, but as far as I know they don't effect how MC Patcher converts things. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.
glimmar, how do i make a animation that i can use as a forum profile picture.can i use the steampunk lantern animation as my profile picture?
To make an animated profile/avatar pic, save your animation as a .gif file. It's a long time since I did mine, so I'm not sure what the resolution and file size have to be, but I think it says in the profile when you edit things.
No probs on using the animated steampunk lantern. If anyone asks about it though, I'd be grateful if you mentioned where the original came from. Thanks, mate. :smile.gif:
Sheesh! I hope everything's ok. I've been away from the forum (and most of the rest of the internet) for a while.
Thanks, nmdrkangl. :smile.gif:
Yep, they were just standard visits, not emergencies. A follow up scan for my wife's Sarcoidosis and a blood test for my youngest (which she hates!)...she was born extremely prem. at 1lb 8oz and had other complications on top...but my little fighter at 10. :smile.gif:
i will leave a link to the pack in de signarure.i did this with the blunderbuss(shotgun picture and achevement) so everybody could know where it came from.
Haha! Your a mate, d95, that's more than I was expecting.
Had a little time this afternoon, so I've been on to experimenting with animating the redstone torch and found I really needed to edit the look of it first for better effect...so new redstone torch, new moon phases, new enchantment table and potion stand as per vid (which I hope to add a little animation to) and a few other things I can't remember now 'cos someone's shouting "TEATIME" at the top of their voice! :biggrin.gif:
Hi Glimmar! This is a voice from Russia :smile.gif:
First of all i want to say your textures are amazing! I'm a big fan of steampunk and minecraft, and when i found your pack i was so happy. Having them both in one piece is really great.
Also this was a big surprise to find in new MCPatcher a way to animate textures. I have lot of ideas about animation and already made some animations. This is animated chainsaw, powered rail and detector rail. I want to share them with you and others.
I found tinypic renamed images, so for chainsaw name is custom_item_115.png, for powered rail - custom_terrain_179.png, for detector rail - custom_terrain_195.png
i like to support this pack by giving more downloaders and visitors.i failed at the animation part.... i saved the picture as a .gif and it wont animate(probably because its saved as one frame)all i see is the tower of animation frames.im using one of the frames as the avatar.
d95, do you use Gimp?
If you do, I could try and talk you through the stages to get an animated .gif. I'm not as familiar with the animation side of Photoshop.

Hi, PATR101, greetings from the UK...Glimmar's Steampunk and welcome to the Minecraft forums. Your English is excellent, as are your little animations and I'm glad you like my texture pack.
You proved me wrong as regards the tool animation. That chainsaw is superb! I didn't think the movement of the teeth by one pixel all round would have such a convincing effect, but yours works so well, I'm persuaded to keep the chainsaw in the pack...at least for a little while longer. :smile.gif: Your edit of my powered railtrack again is also a real treat, again simple, but oh so effective with the spinning cogs.
Until I get round to those individual custom_terrain .pngs, may I use these animations in my next update? As mentioned in my OP I'm not really looking to include work by others now directly in the pack, as I am working to finish it myself as intended, but I will make an exception for the animations until I can do my own, and yours are uncomplicated and very effective...just how I think the animated blocks should be. Too much going on will spoil the realism, apart from the odd special item. I will credit you of course and when I do my own, any I replace will go into the 'extras' download so folk can still use them if they prefer.
Anyways, well done and thank you for sharing...give them a try folks they really are very good.
I'd be delighted if anyone else would like to share some little animations taken from my textures. I can't promise I will put them in the pack, they'd really have to catch my eye, but I will at least put them in the 'extras', and bear in mind I do want to do my own, so they might get replaced soon.
