Try using the HD Patcher, seriously, I swear this is asked like a billion times a day across all the HD texture packs...Anyways, Glimmar, I thought you might like to know I am almost finished with one of the mod texture conversions I'm working on, The Aether, I have a bunch others I know but I wanted this one done in particular because of the things mostly being naturally generated in it, I have this screen to show the progress so far...
I've made the need for the HD Patcher a little clearer in the OP, but it will still get ignored because it's significance is overlooked.
As regards the Aether mod...it's looking very spiffing indeed.
You know I've still to try that mod out...yes I know that's probably daft of me, considering the steampunk theme of sky ships and aether, but limping from update to update and spending an inordinate amount of time on animation work didn't leave me much time for experimental play. Your conversion will be all the encouragement I need to give it a try. :smile.gif:
It does remind me that torturran (above) also did a conversion for the Aether using my textures and in my chaotic mess of a harddrive I think I put it in the 'extras' folder, but still haven't had time to properly update the extras download. It was back when I was in and out of hospital and other real life stuff. So my apologies, as usual, all round. :sad.gif:
After looking over the "potion stand" a bit more, I realize that it looks like its just a centrifuge. Something like that could look fantastic in a laboratory environment, more so than a cauldron would. Now I must head back to minecraft. Someone burned down the majority of our village so I have to rebuild.
Oooo! If it was animated like a centrifuge then that would look very good for this theme, and better than the cauldron. Thanks, torturran, that's alleviated my concern over the loss of the cauldron. I understand it was all to do with the process of mixing potions becoming very unwieldy.
Hope you get the village rebuilt. You'd think folk would get a little bored of griefing by now. The most creative game in existence and some still derive great pleasure from breaking stuff...I'll never understand that...burning a backup for 'research purposes' yes, but not someone else's hard work.
i want this texture pack so bad! but it makes my game lag so bad that i cant even move. why must i be curse like this?!?!
I'm sorry I don't have a ready solution in the form of a 16x pack, but there are some things you could try. However, it does involve stripping stuff out of the texture pack, but if you just want to use it for building, you might not miss those 'Glimmar' things too much:
1. Remove the 'mob' folder from the pack.
2. Remove all the 'custom' animations from the pack: custom_fire_e_w, custom_portal, custom_water_flowing, etc.
And if you're still suffering the dreaded lag, you could try stripping other things from the pack from the 'gui' folder and the 'rain' from the 'environment' folder, even the 'sun' and 'moon' from the 'terrain' folder.
All the above are actually higher then 32x res images and could be the source of your problem, whereas the terrain.png file, which contains all the 'world' textures, is only 32x.
Just keep a copy of the pack and experiment stripping more or less of the above stuff out, and see what works. You can't break anything by deleting things in my pack...all that happens is that Minecraft will revert to using Notch's textures for anything that you remove.
So maybe I missed this in the multiple hundred pages.. but why is raw chicken a Plasma cell from Doom?
Take a closer look at the 'steam' chicken ingame. If we're to keep the steamchicken, which I'm rather partial too (he's both cute and funny) then turning into a raw chicken when you kill it would look a little strange. Therefore, I envisage the mechanical steamchicken exterior as containing a living chicken. When the chicken is 'killed' the mechanical wings and legs fall off and the casing of the body immediately begins the process of preserving the raw chicken body inside. It keeps indefinately in this state...oh the wonders of steampunk science!
When you fancy some cooked chicken, pop the chicken case into the furnace and the process of cooking the perfect chicken begins. The outer casing is designed to fall off in the cooking process, leaving a tasty and fully roasted chicken!
This is what I wrote earlier in the thread:
"I've decided the chicken is a kind of self-contained walking oven (basically it's the body of a chicken with a full outer body prosthesis). When you kill the robochick, you end up with a pre-packed preserved chicken. If you want it cooked, sling it in the oven (furnace) and out comes a nicely cooked turkey (chicken) roast. The outer casing conveniently jumps out of the oven and returns to 'Robo-Roasts' Inc. for refilling!
Is that a good enough explanation to allow me to keep the steam chicken?" :ohmy.gif:

Haha! Great stuff! I'm really pleased to have helped!
I should remember to explain somewhere in the OP, that because I don't stick rigidly to 32x for all the pack components, it might be necessary to do what I've just advised you to do.
I should also probably make 32x equivalents for all the larger gui's, mobs, weather effects, etc. I've used in the standard pack. I have a fairly high powered PC and easily forget how these things effect many users. :sad.gif:
Thanks for being patient and sticking with it, spoonman. Out of curiosity and for the benefit of all, what made the biggest difference in dealing with the lag? Did you do it a step at a time or did you delete all the things I listed. If you did the latter, you could perhaps load in individual components you really wanted back in and see how they effect things.
Anyways, glad to help. :smile.gif:
@ neronix17: Thanks mate. I'm sure you'll come up with something nice with the Aether mod conversion, it sounds like you have a good eye for getting things to look right.

@ selven: That's a pretty vast project!
for me it seemed to be the custom fire, water and all that stuff. i started the texture pack over fresh and tried deleteting stuff one by one and see what was causing the lag and it seems to be the custom fire, water, lava etc. i deleted that and it runs fine now. lags a bit more than default tp but worth it in my opinion.
once again thanks for the upload and all the work you put into it. really appreciate it.
Is that a good enough explanation to allow me to keep the steam chicken?" :ohmy.gif:
You're the boss.. I did find the explanation after posting and I think it's cool and you shouldn't change it.. But it does look like a plasma cell from Doom. :biggrin.gif:
Keep up the great work!
All the folks who play on my server are using this texture pack. Thanks for your speedy updating cause using stock textures is almost painfull.
Here's a quick vid of a coaster I built and shot using your texture pack..
Hello again, Glimmar. My apologies for not being able to stop by and wish you luck and prosperity recently, I was caught up in my new pack. I really hope everything falls into place for you, that things take a sharp turn for the better.
love your pack i've been using it since the rezcraft pack has been inactive. I was wondering if you could upload your work to the minecraft customizer website. It would let some of your fans customize the pack with your alternative textures that suck at editing pictures or are just lazy like me. I hope i get to see your stuff on there soon. good job.

Yes the fire, water, etc. animations will put a strain on things. I did make a 32x version, but the lower res. animation greatly effected the appearance of rippling water and lava making it very jumpy.

I'm not responsible for creating the steamchicken, that honour falls to a member called Vondell. Perhaps he actually based the body of his chicken on a Doom plasma cell. :biggrin.gif:
I'm intending making my own steamchicken sometime, so you may or may not prefer the new version, thanks Fixial. :smile.gif:

I hope you didn't mind me editing your original crossbow design for the new 3 stage version?

Minecraft Customizer is on my 'todo' list for that very reason (my alt textures), but I still haven't a lot of spare time at the mo', really sorry. :sad.gif:
Hey very one, some interesting stuff going on, glimmer if you are too busy to upload to mine craft customiser I would be happy to do it for you with your full permission. Obviously I can understand why you may not want this, no problem just an idea :biggrin.gif: loving all the hard work and mechanised love put into this pack.
That's a very nice offer, mate, and I appreciate your kindness.
The guys at Minecraft Customiser have already uploaded most stuff, but I can't give them permission to release it, until it's signed over to me and I've had time to move textures around to my satisfaction. Many of my textures are ambiguous so I want them in multiple slots.
Everyone's being very patient and I'd have no problem's with you doing it, lordofsax, but it's one of those things I think I need to do myself, so's I can tinker with it and upload new bits and pieces as and when I get the chance.
I not sure if this is good for steamcraft :dry.gif:
Actually, this comment slightly bothers me. :sad.gif:
If you are saying you don't like my 'Glimmar's Steampunk' texture pack being used with 'steamcraft', then you are of course entitled to your opinion, but if you are implying or under the false assumption that this texture pack is somehow derived from SteamCraft, it would greatly annoy me. My texture pack has now been around for exactly one year. October 2010 to be precise. Proloe's SteamCraft has been in existence since April of 2011. :dry.gif:
Would you please explain yourself, before I mention this to the modder behind steamcraft. I would hate to feel the need to have to break an association with Proloe that so far has benefited us both and given pleasure to many. I have invested a considerable amount of time in this theme texture pack called 'Glimmar's Steampunk' and would not want it to be confused as being a subsidiary adjunct to any mod...as cool a mod as SteamCraft is.
I hope you didn't mind me editing your original crossbow design for the new 3 stage version?
Not at all, my good sir! Feel free to change whatever you wish, as much as you wish. They were made for you and Gestankfaust, mainly, so you may change them as much as you want :laugh.gif: (Everyone else may, too. If I should copyright my work, I'd just use the one saying that you can't make money off of it)

Thanks, mate. I liked your original design best, but wanted to change it's look slightly to fit the new animated version. Whilst just one pixel of your design remains, Tlos, I will still credit you with the original work and the idea.
No problem mate, I would feel the same if this was my pack, the friendly atmosphere in this thread makes me want to offer some textures, it would be an interesting change from working on the dokucraft continuation. :laugh.gif: if I ever make anything I'll throw it this way (not literally).
Lol! I shall wear my armour at all times then and watch out for incoming dangerous textures!
Hopefully, it's friendly round here because we're mostly Ladies and Gentlemen rather than scallywags and knaves...well everyone that is except me. I'm a megalomaniac evil super villain with a secret undergound base! :blink.gif:
