I was having a good look at it last night, thanks mate. Not sure what to do with it until I see it in action or see some vids of it in action. Same with the silver fish...which I'm assuming now is going to be some sort of wood chewing insect. Is it going to be implemented in the 1.8 update?
If you want to see the Enderman in action, see this video at about the 5:45. It also shows a bunch of the other things, as well as commentary by Notch. Definitely worth watching.
Now I've done almost everything, just thinking if thumbnails would be better as more cartoony version or something else instead of just the skin recycled into an icon.
clay soldiers' skins are done (I think) and a dirt horse made of dirt (doing more stempunky version right now)
thumbnails and a better horse skin up next :)I would be rather honored if you include my pigzombie skin in your texture pack :DI disappeared, because somehow I stopped getting emails saying X replied to this thread
Thanks, mate...for the pigzombie permission.
The Clay Soldiers' skins are excellent. May I include them in my 'extras' download in the mod file? I'll have to get the 1.8 update done first as that's all I'm concentrating on at the moment.
I've got a very good reason to try that particular mod out now. :biggrin.gif:
I support this idea. ^^ But maybe have it be a bluish gray color, like the clay that comes default with minecraft, so that it will make sense as marble.
We are of one mind!:blink.gif: Spooky. :biggrin.gif:

I'm so out of the loop! The Endermen give me the chills. Did Notch base them a little on the Angels from Dr Who?
In any event though, I still haven't a clue what to do for them. I'd have loved to have made something after the 'Brass Man' character in Neil Asher's book of the same name about a self-aware robot golum. That was a seriously awesome creation..check it out. Neil Asher is a British author of the most believable, but utterly fantastic tech and monstrous alien lifeforms style of sci-fi. Unfortunately it would be infringing on copyright to create something with that title I think, but perhaps a line of inspiration? It's difficult to beat the black figure/white glowing eyes combination though.
hopefully i hate what you have done wrong the pumpkins is covered with lava and water and the gold is burning! plz fix this ok this is the best texture pack iwe found so far if you dont fix it i get a new texture pack

This isn't a problem on the texturepack's side. The problem is you not reading the installation guide on the OP. Please read that and you know your problem.

Calm down, mate. :smile.gif:
I'm glad you like Glimmar's Steampunk, but you've overlooked the most important step in using any texture pack that has a different resolution to Vanilla Minecraft...M C Patcher. The need for it, and instructions for installing it, are directly beneath the download link in my OP. Here you go:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION:
1. Ideally, ensure your game is a clean, freshly installed version of Minecraft.
2. Boot up the Minecraft game, select 'Mods and Texture Packs', select 'Open texture pack folder' and just drag 'Glimmar's Steampunk' zip file into it, from where you saved it. Don't forget to select it as your
pack of choice.
3. VERY IMPORTANT! To fix Graphical Glitches inherent in Minecraft when using HD textures and see my custom water, lava, fire and portal animations, it is essential you apply kahr's new improved beta "MC Patcher HD Fix"MC Patcher HD Fix. There are clear instructions in kahr's thread on how to use the new patcher.
Now go and enjoy Glimmar's Steampunk and many other fine texture packs the way they are meant to be seen. :smile.gif:
Glimmar, if you haven't already you really need to put this pack on minecraftcustomizer.net. I used to use that special 'texture mix' machine you link to in the OP, but now it doesn't seem to be there anymore....the link just takes you to a thread with a zip file. Which is non-helpful.
Just a suggestion, but I think lots of people (including me) would love being able to screw around and mix-and-match your textures with ease. If any pack needs to be on the customizer website, it's definitely yours. :3
EDIT: Also, having it on the customizer site would allow everyone to know what all the alternate textures are supposed to be-- aka, is this particular block supposed to be netherrack, or iron block, or clay, etc.
I have stopped working on the web version of that in favor of the downloadable version that runs locally as that didn't require my getting copyright permissions from authors of packs. The downloadable version though is currently only for windows (The code is theoretically cross-platform but problems with a failing HD on my linux machine prevented me from doing a proper linux build.) and I haven't had time to work on it in a few weeks due to the addition of a ring to my hand.
I have been seriously considering open-sourcing it for a while but I'm holding off dropping a source tarball until I can do a better assessment on weather or not I will have the time to really spend on this or if I should focus on other projects instead.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Hey Glimmar, love the texture pack, been using it since I first found it ages ago, cant use anything else as nothing can live up to the expectations this pack has given me hehe, I was wondering since you did the extra textures for the SteamCraft mod if you would consider doing this mod too?
Glimmar didn't actually make the textures for Steamcraft. I did. Glimmar is pretty preoccupied with just making the vanilla content, especially with 1.8 just around the corner.
Ah sorry, I was actually coming on again to say I'm going to give a couple mods a go of applying modified textures from this pack if that was ok? I am doing it either way but will only up them to here if I get permission of course, was thinking on doing textures for
RedPower <----!!!! THIS !!!!!
that would be a treat if you did textures for that...and glimmar might like that too, since redpower allows you to place wires that run vertically up walls, horizontally on a side..on bottom sides...and never mind the cover plates...oh my.
This may be a really stupid question, but has something happened to the needle for the compass? It seems skinnier.
Yes, I have patched it, and I checked the more common signs of it not being patched (gold, brick, netherrack). Not sure if the issue would be a texture issue or a patcher issue, and I'm not sure if I'm the only one seeing it. For all I know, it may be a bug in the patcher code (or I may have accidentally run an old version of the patcher).
Any thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone going to point out that I'm usually the one helping people with questions like this?
Jeb recently posted the new sheet for health, armor, food, experience, etc. Thought you might want to take a glance at it.
Thanks, ksheep.
If I'm rushed for time, I may just up the resolution on the new icon sheet and overlay my existing textures and then return later to do something more fitting.:smile.gif:
fixed a flying dot...all colours are now uploadedit would be nice to have these included in the extrasps. laughing so hard at these people who can't use hd patch
Thanks, Dazqo.
It will be great to add more mod texture conversions like this. Feel free to use my textures if uploaded here. As soon as I've broken the back of all the new stuff for the 1.8 update, I will make a feature of all the mods that this pack is compatible with, and full credit will be given and remain with that conversion.
I just don't get over to the modding section these days, so you'll be introducing me to all sorts of exotic stuff I never even new existed. :blink.gif:
you have no idea...over a year now hd packs have been available...in less than 30 days this pack hits its first year.and people are still tripping over META-INF folders and mc patcher...wow.
Wow! You're right, I didn't know I'd been around that long!! Lol.
I suppose there's always going to be new Minecraftians and those dipping their toes into higher res packs for the first time and just not realizing what's needed. Notch could solve that problem in a flash and make life more enjoyable for 10's of thousands of people and no less enjoyable for those who prefer 16x textures.
Glimmar didn't actually make the textures for Steamcraft. I did. Glimmar is pretty preoccupied with just making the vanilla content, especially with 1.8 just around the corner.
Exactly so. :smile.gif:
Ploughing on with the new stuff and taking a little break here to refresh. I'm reaching an impasse with some of the new textures at the moment, because I'm just not sure quite how some things will work. The new iron post thingies for example (they are actually transparent blocks, meaning there will be six sides like glass, rather than a new type of fence...right?), and as for those hideous giant funghi umbrellas!
I'm thinking more along the lines of the funghi being an alien growth rather than the traditional red spots and brown. The blockiness of Minecraft just doesn't lend itself very convincingly to giant domed circular mushrooms in my opinion. However, I like the addition of any new type of building material. I've also been meaning to ask, what can we do with these gargantuan magic mushrooms? Are they a food resource or a new building material, because that would heavily influence how they should be textured?
Ah sorry, I was actually coming on again to say I'm going to give a couple mods a go of applying modified textures from this pack if that was ok? Hi, neronix17. :smile.gif: As mentioned above, if you upload the mod texture conversions here, you have my blessing and my thanks and the same from all who use this pack. As Proloe says, I'd love to work on lots of appropriate mods, but realistically just don't have the time. So you'd be doing everyone a favor.
If uploaded here, feel free to use any of the alt textures I've provided, and as soon as I can, I will make some kind of feature in the OP listing which mods are supported and properly crediting those who've made the conversion.
that would be a treat if you did textures for that...and glimmar might like that too, since redpower allows you to place wires that run vertically up walls, horizontally on a side..on bottom sides...and never mind the cover plates...oh my.
I'd like that indeed, as I could do some new things for the kz.png paintings sheet.
Incidentally, the paintings are another thing on my todo list that you might all help with suggestions for. Like my alt textures, I get a buzz out of creating new functional paintings (like stained glass, tech stuff and just plain utilitarian looking things like chains and pipes, etc.), and as my paintings are badly in need of revamping, any suggestions for what might be most useful to add to an ongoing collection of useful paintings...kind of like a gallery archive, would be much appreciated. I'm not that interested in actual decorative paintings as they can get a bit repetitive seeing the same thing, but just in different rooms.
Anyways I intend dropping some of the less useful wheels and clocks, for more useful architectural pics like stained glass. For example I fancy making a kind of traditional Victorian railway 'Station' sign. :smile.gif:

Yes, I can confirm it looks a lot thinner to me. But rest assured I've not changed anything to do with the compass. However, would the addition of my 64x animation strips be influencing what resolution the patcher depicts the compass needle?
As regards the 1.8 update. So far I've finished most of the item icons.
I've decided the chicken is a kind of self contained walking oven (basically it's the body of a chicken with a full outer body prosthesis). When you kill the robochick, you end up with a pre-packed preserved chicken. If you want it cooked, sling it in the oven and out comes a nicely cooked turkey roast. The outer casing conveniently jumps out of the oven and returns to 'Robo-Roasts' Inc. for refilling! Is that a good enough explanation to allow me to keep the steam chicken? :ohmy.gif:
My pumpkin helm/lamp will look like a flatpack or self replicating device that you place on the ground and given the right conditions will use what resources are available to produce more helmet/lamps. :cool.gif:
I like melon, so that's going to stay for now as a functional biological food source. :tongue.gif:
Still not sure about the zombie flesh. Temporarily I'll just make it meat, but does anyone know if there are side effects from eating zombie flesh? :mellow.gif:
Besides the new terrain textures, I've changed the following: brick, birch sapling, chest, sandstone, clay, stone, ores and half block (to better fit with the color and texture of the new granite blocks), gravel (some annoying pattern), dirt (a little more contrast) and a mossy cobble that matches the four course cobble (it blends quite well and looks good in damp areas around water, etc.)
I'm not racing to get this out on the day of the update, but I am working on it with what free time I have. I'd show you pics of the above and the new blocks, but need to spend what little time I have on finishing. I've already waffled enough as it is!
Thanks for your continued interest.
[edit] Seeing as how Jeb doesn't expect it to be out until 12th Sept. at earliest, I might actually be updating not long after. However, I'll still need more time to consider the new mobs.

Hmm, doing a little research I found this picture of the new Iron Bars:So it looks like it'll act similarly to the new glass panes when placed... This means that they could be made into the wrought iron fences we've been lacking till now, or it could take the place of our current Glass Blocks and serve as scaffolding for our large constructions, while Glass Blocks and Panes become more transparent. As far as the Mushrooms go... Yeah, alien growths sound a lot better than "oversized mushrooms". And yes, what they ultimately look like depends heavily on what they do and where they show up... Let's wait for them to be released.

Alright then! *cracks knuckles*I have to agree with you there, the current kz.png is a little bare... And a lot of popular packs use more utilitarian "paintings" to great effect... The trick is knowing what you need, and how it could be used. One common addition is flags or banners, always a welcome addition to any military installation. But for a more Steampunk aesthetic, you'd need more of an emblem or coat of arms to be plastered across the walls, Personally, I'd try something similar to what the Isle of Man has, but I have a painfully obvious bias. Another simple addition is kitchenware; pots and pans, or cabinet doors. Little things that spruce up any humble Victorian home. Be sure to make ample use of transparency on these, so the material behind them can be seen as well.A handful of simple signs can add a lot of charm to your public works project. The cardinal directions, a few "Station No. x"s, and a multipurpose abbreviation or two (GTD? GER?) will create an air of respectability and authority that is hard to ignore. More vital to us Steampunks however, is all the various panels, screens, dials, levers, and buttons for us to manipulate. I've always believed "less is more" in this regard, but it's fun to stick on as many doodads and whirligigs as conceivably possibly, isn't it? A few key things to include would be: An old fashioned http://watermarked.cutcaster.com/cutcaster-photo-100167598-old-throttle.jpg"]steam throttle, a radar scope, pressure gauges, pipes, boilers, gears, engines, clocks, and anything else you can fit in with it.Which leaves us to the actual paintings themselves. Once again, I say less is more! Just fill any empty spots with pastoral scenes and romantic artwork, with a few Impressionistic pieces. I've always liked that Wanderer above a Sea of Fog was included in the original paintings, and similarly themed works with a 32x32 upgrade would be appreciated. Some other paintings I'd like to highlight are The Fighting Temeraire, Rain, Steam, and Speed, or Schmadribach Waterfall. These either express Steampunk ideas in a more subtle fashion than our current paintings, or express the wide-open terrain of Minecraft. A few other "paintings" that would add atmosphere would be strategic maps and faded blueprints to hang in our studies.

As regards the 1.8 update...
It's good to hear that you've messed around with some of the older terrain pieces. The scenery itself is a strong part of what makes your texture pack such a delight to look at. Can't wait for 1.8, and for your latest update!
Hmm, doing a little research I found this picture of the new Iron Bars:
So it looks like it'll act similarly to the new glass panes when placed... This means that they could be made into the wrought iron fences we've been lacking till now, or it could take the place of our current Glass Blocks and serve as scaffolding for our large constructions, while Glass Blocks and Panes become more transparent.
So now there are new glass panes as well? :blink.gif: Is this all to do with the new lighting?
That pic does seem to indicate the iron bars are sort of 2d then? So yes, some kind of railing that could also stack to make a large iron gate or scaffolding. Mmmm?

I suppose the only place they would look ok for me is in some vast underground cavern (no not the nether!) like 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'. Indeed...waiting and seeing seems like a good idea. :smile.gif:

That's a lot of useful advice there. And that railway sign is exactly what I had in mind for a station sign. As per usual the standard kz. png file is pitifully limited in it's scope for all the things that would look really cool in a steampunk/Victorian world.
Lol! I can take a hint re: the Manx sign. :biggrin.gif: Love the waterwheel! Look at this place I visited with the family whilst on holiday...a place called Morwellham Quay. Definately a real Minecraft location!
It had an amazing waterwheel too:
I took way too many pics of the place, but the pics above I googled to save time.
A couple of appropriate Victorian paintings, including perhaps one of Queen Victoria herself or a Jules Verne photograph. I could live with multiple copies of The Fighting Temeraire too. :smile.gif:
If you want to see the Enderman in action, see this video at about the 5:45. It also shows a bunch of the other things, as well as commentary by Notch. Definitely worth watching.
Looks great!

It's good to hear that you've messed around with some of the older terrain pieces. The scenery itself is a strong part of what makes your texture pack such a delight to look at. Can't wait for 1.8, and for your latest update!

Curse PremiumSo now there are new glass panes as well? :blink.gif: Is this all to do with the new lighting?
That pic does seem to indicate the iron bars are sort of 2d then? So yes, some kind of railing that could also stack to make a large iron gate or scaffolding. Mmmm?
I suppose the only place they would look ok for me is in some vast underground cavern (no not the nether!) like 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'. Indeed...waiting and seeing seems like a good idea. :smile.gif:

A handful of simple signs can add a lot of charm to your public works project. The cardinal directions, a few "Station No. x"s, and a multipurpose abbreviation or two (GTD? GER?) will create an air of respectability and authority that is hard to ignore.

I've always believed "less is more" in this regard, but it's fun to stick on as many doodads and whirligigs as conceivably possibly, isn't it?
:smile.gif:
