That water mod is awesome. At first I thought it was another prank video like we used to see (don't remember the name, but it was a mock "better" mod).
I'm so checking it out now.

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
That shader makes everything look... look...
...I'm at a loss for words! My substantial discriptive abilities now fail me as I try to encapsulate all the majesty, beauty, and awe that are added by a simple change in water. Just... Bravo.
On topic however, is the release of the new terrain.png
I'm sure this means that 1.8 will arrive before the week is out, so let's try to derive some meaning to the new textures, as well as try and see how we could turn them into new elements for our steampunk worlds! I'll be working from right to left, top to bottom and stopping on any new blocks along the way.
Stone Blocks- These will be showing up in the new Strongholds as part of their construction. Perhaps they could be switched out with the current texture for clay, and clay could be given a more "natural" texture again. That's actually one of the bigger complaints about the mod, and I admit that it breaks immersion when you're making bricks from blocks of metal.
Iron vines(?)- Another feature of Strongholds. Not sure if they're organic, but a bundle of rusting chains hanging from the ceiling always adds cheer to a room.
Mossy Blocks- Yet another Stronghold element. Could be made into an overgrown/rusted version of the normal block.
Cracked Blocks- Second verse, same as first. I'm not sure how one can show a metal block that's under stress, so maybe a re-enforcing plate could be bolted onto these blocks?
Melon Vines- This is what pops up after planting pumpkin or watermelon seeds. Maybe they could be changed to some sort of brass plant to explain why we can now grow diving helms?
Giant Mushrooms- Okay, here's a good one. What could over-sized fungi be turned into that wouldn't upset our Victorian sensibilities? I know EXACTLY what they should be.
Tesla Coils.
That is all.
Watermelons- A bit of a puzzle. If we swap the sprouts to some sort of machine, then watermelons need to be a device as well, like cake is. ...Maybe some sort of whistle?
Mushroom Stems- Tesssssssslaaaaaaa
Vines(?)- I'm pretty sure this is what the vines for pumpkins and watermelons, but it could be a type of moss that could grow on blocks.
Speed Lines- Once again, not entirely sure, but this blue line could be the new effect for dashing. Maybe give it a little of the Glimmar touch, but not a whole lot could be done with it, IF that's what it is.
Cracked Sandstone- What it says on the tin.
Footprints(?)- No idea at all, but the first thing I thought of looking at them was footprints. Could be a new particle effect, could be almost anything.
(??????)- New effects? I'm not sure...
I hope that can get some discussion off the ground, but we won't REALLY know until the udate is released!

The thing you mentioned as "metal vines" is an iron gate or iron bars. As for the vine, I believe that they are just placable vines that either grow on walls or are self supporting (not sure which).
Also, with the items…
There is the following:
Melon and Pumpkin seeds
3 new stages of bow string pullage, to go with the normal unloaded version
Raw beef, steak, raw chicken, cooked chicken, and melon slices.
Rotten flesh (from zombies)
Here is the quote from jeb_ on reddit about the new textures:
New in terrain.png:
Smooth stone brick + cracked and mossy variants
Vines
Melon
Melon/Pumpkin stalk (unconnected + connected)
Thin glass upper edge
Mushroom textures
City borders (will probably not be used)
Iron bars
New in items.png:
Bow bending states
Melon
Cooked porkchop
Raw beef
Raw and cooked chicken
Melon seeds
Pumpkin seeds
Rotten flesh
Edit: Had forgotten the iron bars

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
i dissagree the giant mushroos should stay giant mushrooms it would just look wrong, and the mellons should be mellons because they have to be eaten unlike the pumpkins
So… what about the mechanical cake we've had forever? And what about the chickens? Will we have mechanical chickens drop actual meat?
12 more to go guys! everyone in the thread go and hit +1 reputation on the OP, lets show this pack is popular!!!
Haha! I think there's only about the same six people looking in now, so it'll be ages before it becomes popular...if ever. Thanks for trying dorian, you're a good mate. :smile.gif:
As far as I can see, this is because he is running on "Fast" instead of "Fancy" graphics, and it doesn't look like he used the "Better Grass" option (or whatever it's called) in the MCPatcher.
Thanks, ksheep. I keep forgetting about 'fast' and 'fancy'. :smile.gif:
Congrats, Faust. I noticed it a couple of days ago and intended to mention it in my comment on your new texture pack thread. Then got carried away commenting on all those new textures. I meant to say Ghast 'Artist' would be a more appropriate title, but ever since it came out I've loved that title...Ghast Hunter. If I ever acquire it myself it will be ironic 'cos I've never even seen a live one, let alone killed one! :biggrin.gif:
I've also just noticed that impressive 'Sectional Moderator' title. Now that is cool...after all this time. I can't think of a better guy to be in that position.
I've got some good news and some bad news. Jeb said that it will take a while to finish up 1.8, as they still need to fix up and polish a number of things. However, he also said he may release the unfinished PAX version shortly so that those fans clamoring for the update will be sated. Not sure if it's gonna be a "click here to try it out" or just put out as a normal update, but I thought I'd give you a heads up. You may need to make those blocks a bit sooner than you thought.EDIT: Looking at the tweet again, he said "September 8th is a good guess". Now whether that means the PAX version or the completed version, I'm not entirely sure.
I was kind of thinking they'd eventually split it up again. Although having just seen what Jeb posted by way of the terrain.png and items sheet, there's still an amazing amount to do.
I tried redownloading both minecraft and the mcpatcher, but it did not work, I also tried taking out the custom png files, but when I rezipped the folder, it gave me the default textures for some reason, anyway, I'm relatively sure that the reason the textures are goofing is cause of my lame old mac, thanks for posting the link to a 2.6 version, as I said I am very grateful and can now play minecraft again with my favorite textures.
Oh, it didn't occur to me that you might have had a different machine or operating system to mine. I often make that mistake that everyone has the same set up as me. Glad you're still ok with the 2.6 version. Would the new 'water shader mod' I tried work for you to spruce things up, albeit temporarily with the 1.8 update coming?
your pack is simply amazing, and that water shader just completes it!i also like the buildings you showed us in the video, they really fit well in your pack :wink.gif:
The link appears to be broken. Seems you accidentally got rid of the "url = " bit. At least it's updated, though. That's the most important thing :biggrin.gif:
Oh, flip! Sorry mate. I'll get on to it now. You're going to be thinking this update is jinxed. I was in a bit of a rush to get back outside while the sun was shining and I don't think I did my usual recheck, after uploading. My only excuse is old age and failing eyesight. :sad.gif:
Have fixed it now and double checked, but I'd be grateful if you triple-checked it for me. :smile.gif:
That video was stunning, just stunning! Also how's the summer house going?
Thanks, mate. Glad you liked it, it'll be out of date pretty soon now with the 1.8 update, but that's why I thought I'd give it a quick go now. Like Mr Messiah's BetterLight mod it would be a crying shame if it didn't become an option in vanilla Minecraft eventually.
I think it is kind of sad that someone managed to, in Minecraft, make water that is better than most any other game. Even with some of the bugs it has.
Exactly. And the principle idea behind it, from what I read in the mod thread is relatively simple. I'm sure putting it into practice wasn't, but the result is stunning. Seeing one's creations shimmering in reflected glory is creatively very awe-inspiring. Surely a foretaste of things to come in sandbox games like this proving what an exciting visual age we live in.

I seem to be going on a +1 rampage.. I think I need help. :sad.gif:I do believe offtopic is invading this thread now, we're very sorry Mr. Glimmar. :tongue.gif:
No apologies necessary. I'm sorry to feed your addiction though! :biggrin.gif:
That water mod is awesome. At first I thought it was another prank video like we used to see (don't remember the name, but it was a mock "better" mod).I'm so checking it out now.:biggrin.gif:
That was exactly my immediate thought too. Imagine down the line when it will be possible to effect the color tone of the water and possibly have ripples eminating from critters splashing around, or thrown stones. If fish are in the next updates, they will look wonderful!
As mentioned there are some annoying artifacts and jumps and ideally I'd like the ripples to be on a smaller scale, but it's obviously early days. In my nearly thirty years playing and mucking about with PC games and creative software I can safely say I've not come across anything quite like Minecraft for stimulating everyone's little grey cells.
Water Mod = FREAKING AMAZING!!! I can't wait to play. Glimmar you and Necro did amazing
Thanks, Graveshadow, but all the credit to Necro as I was probably the last person on his mind when he made the mod. Like others I've merely tried it out along with my textures and been very lucky the way my recent 'custom_water_flowing' animation seems to have profited from the effects of the mod.
Dear God...That shader makes everything look... look......I'm at a loss for words! My substantial discriptive abilities now fail me as I try to encapsulate all the majesty, beauty, and awe that are added by a simple change in water. Just... Bravo.
Glad you like, Triskelli my friend. :smile.gif: I was certainly pleased by how well it worked. I would dare to say that for me the reflections work better with the dark palette of colors I tend to use, but I would say that! :tongue.gif:
Also, many thanks for that exhaustive list of all the new things. It's a lot more work than I was anticipating and I have to say I certainly won't be updating any time soon, but I will as soon as I can. I don't want to rush anything, but this may be a time where I temporarily fall back on some of my alternate textures and an updated items sheet and then I'm able to do a proper job after some careful consideration.
I was looking at the .png files Jeb had posted and I couldn't figure what half the stuff was. I never like to do anything before the update, because I do like to play with the new things first and see what they suggest when I see them 'in the round'.
The thing you mentioned as "metal vines" is an iron gate or iron bars. As for the vine, I believe that they are just placable vines that either grow on walls or are self supporting (not sure which). Also, with the items…There is the following:Melon and Pumpkin seeds3 new stages of bow string pullage, to go with the normal unloaded versionRaw beef, steak, raw chicken, cooked chicken, and melon slices.Rotten flesh (from zombies)
And thanks for that, ksheep. I would certainly find all this a lot more difficult to pick apart without yours and everyone's help figuring. Does the above mean we might actually have the possibility of iron railings and chains?
As mentioned above, the really urgent thing to complete after the update will be the item sheet to prevent those episodes of invisible/missing objects after the update. I think I will concentrate on those as a matter of urgency. The rest will have to fit around my present circumstances.
i dissagree the giant mushroos should stay giant mushrooms it would just look wrong, and the mellons should be mellons because they have to be eaten unlike the pumpkins
Those giant mushrooms really are troubling me. So please keep all your ideas coming folks. There's an aweful lot of things to consider, but you'll have to bear in mind that I tend to go with what might be a more visually useful texture for my builds rather than sticking strictly to the intended purpose of an item. However, I do think it's time for me to change the clay back to something more natural looking if it really is causing problems for so many. Haha, there's one thing for sure, in fixing one thing I'm sure to create a fuss somewhere else. :biggrin.gif:
So… what about the mechanical cake we've had forever? And what about the chickens? Will we have mechanical chickens drop actual meat?
I think it's probably best for me to just follow my nose and see what ideas appeal to me from yourselves, Google and my own peculiar perspective on things. :blink.gif:
If you're still interested, keep the ideas flowing, and if you've never posted before, don't be afraid to start now. Most folk in this thread thankfully aren't the type to make unkind comments...just enthusiastic humorous fanciful comments, yes! :biggrin.gif: I tend to do my own thing anyway, but I am swayed and influenced by all your ideas. Which is as it should be really. :smile.gif:
I've also just noticed that impressive 'Sectional Moderator' title. Now that is cool...after all this time. I can't think of a better guy to be in that position.
