Glad you like my little 'machine', but it pales into insignificance by comparison with your constructs, mate. :smile.gif:
not really. you designed for something visually pleasing. I design things that perform logic and math...its a rare breed that can do both at the same time. besides, mine doesnt have moving parts, yours does =) that makes a big difference. at least...for now =)
theres a big movement now on recreating all the popular electronic components with pistons...yes there are adders, AND/OR/XOR gates, flip flops, etc...using pistons. Now visualize something like my alu, with lots of moving pistons in it doing real calulations =).
not now mind you...that project is already complex enough as it is, but the piston logic threads hold a lot of promise for a future build.

Wow! Imagine all those pistons firing away, the noise would be earth shattering!!
Haha, remembering my very limited knowledge of 'Basic'...don't laugh :biggrin.gif:...the mere mention of AND/OR/XOR gates, makes me nervous, and talk of flip flops and I'm feeling truly cornered...or should I be on the beach? :unsure.gif:
Hey guys, I wanted to let you all know, we released a new track recently. If any of you plan on doing some dark carnival/circus themed stuff, it would be perfect background music.
I heard the new track and it RULES! (was gonna surprise everyone by having it in a new video :tongue.gif:)
I reckon the music will go amazingly well with your Toymaker theme and Mythos. I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing what you come up with, Faust. Your dark imagination will no doubt do it great justice.

mind you this design is almost completely pure boolean logic. that is the basis of all computing devices...its either a 0 or 1. on or off. simple as that. combining all that logic to perform something like playing an mp3, rendering minecraft worlds, etc. thats hard =)
i just had a wicked session duplicating the circuits that will be driving 2 massive segmented led displays:
i used that bluish cracked crystal in one of your alt textures for glowstone, thats the 'led' that will be lighting the segments of those displays. those do use pistons to push the glowstones in and out of view. the second pic shows the components that will drive those displays...not a small design, but theyre designed to take 4 bits of a number and display a digit from 0-9, and a-f for the numbers 10-15..aka a hex counter. running the lines from the alu to those circuits and getting the decode logic down to figure out which segments to light..ehg. long work ahead =)
btw, i tried using my name, MaudDib, as a seed..the mountains generated on that map are truly epic..and lots of them. im thinking of transferring the cpu over to that map once its done. there is a way to copy regions of a map with the mod i use, and the copy buffer persists while switching maps. an unknown feature that i discovered the other day :wink.gif:

It's actually for that new "Dark One's" video. And yer innit too. Just gotta get more footage since 1.7 made things updated all around. If you haven't heard it yet...just sent chills up my spine thinking of how awesome the timing was to hear it (while wondering what music to use).
The track is for sale on their site...so I'm sooooo getting a couple
Shows how much I know...I didn't know redstone torches could burn out!! That's pretty cool (or hot). Is that the hissing sound then? I just couldn't understand where that noise was coming from, but absolutely loved it. It's the most steampunky noise I've heard so far in Minecraft. I'm going to have to look further into this matter. :smile.gif:
As regards frantic machinary, I'm old enough to remember being taken round a real working cotton mill here in the North West (UK) and believe me, hundreds of looms (looking somewhat like MaudDib's CPU project) clattering away at top speed, was vastly louder and more frantic than my little toy gizmo. I'm still having nightmares. Lol! :biggrin.gif:
I'm already imagining a vast factory with row upon row of these little babies hammering away. Except if I've got to keep going round replacing burned out redstone valves, I better rethink!! :blink.gif:
It's been running non-stop since last week, so if they haven't burned out yet, am I safe?
The noise also plays when water hits fire or fire hits water. Lava also counts as fire as do the fire particle effects. I've tried without success to use this sound near some of my machines but as it mostly plays when something happens that cannot be repeated easily it's hard to do :sad.gif:.

That project of yours just looks more awesome everytime you post a pic. I must say, I'm quite pleased the way the brass piping shows up on the cast iron block.
I'll check out your name seed later...I also want to try out 'Babbage'. I expect to find lots of redstone in both of those worlds. :biggrin.gif:

It's very cool indeed, and the fact that Josh is ok with us using the music for background atmosphere too is wonderful.
If you're looking for any other dark packs still, have you seen INSPIRATION by TobiwanK3nobi, very nice and also darker more naturalistic colours.

I'm just grateful that a rank amateur redstone engineer like myself can stumble upon little working engines like the one in my vid. Not that I needed any motivation to build in Minecraft, but this redstone kit of gadgets opens up a whole knew world. No longer silent halls, factories, battleships, dirigibles, etc. So much fun to be had (probably frustration too!).
I've still not been able to track down a link to the 'rotating wheel' mod that got posted in my thread, I'm bemoaning the fact that I never even downloaded the original pre-1.7 version! :sad.gif:
Oh, thank you kind sir, it's just as good as I remember looking at the vids. I left a comment too in the hope he's not abandoned it from lack of interest. It really is too good a thing to disappear. Simple in principle...obviously not from a modding point of view...but enormeous visual appeal for this theme.
Thanks for tracking it down, mate. I've made a shortcut on my desktop then I don't lose it again! :smile.gif:
Amazing work glimmar I really like this texture pack but i cant use it because my labtop can't handle it :/ anyway is there an official server for this texurepack? well because i have a steampunk vs cyberpunk server and i was thinking maybe have this as the offical texturepack for the steampunk side if u dont have one. just was wondering lol. anyway get back to me if u want, thanks.
sorry for crappy quality, youtube really kills the quality. the part where i go inside the machine, theres a block being cycled between those 4 pistons, thats the 'clock' that drives the whole contraption.
I'd be interested to know if it does the same as the one in my vid. I've not had a chance to reproduce it myself and was just wondering if mine was a bit of a fluke! :unsure.gif:

Thanks, mate, glad you like. :smile.gif: Sorry about the laptop thing. :sad.gif:
Well, people keep posting about starting Steampunk World servers and there's this one: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=252762 called Darkened Skies. The banner is in my OP, but I haven't heard from the creator for a while.
By all means go ahead and use my pack as your world skin. I'd be grateful for a link and some credit too and if you get a banner made I'll perhaps stick it up in my OP. From time to time members keep asking for links to steampunk related servers, so I'm happy to help link everyone together...kind of like a steampunk dating agency! :biggrin.gif:
sorry guys, had to do it =)behold, the SteamFlux Capacitor: for crappy quality, youtube really kills the quality. the part where i go inside the machine, theres a block being cycled between those 4 pistons, thats the 'clock' that drives the whole contraption.world file: http://www.box.net/shared/vrteqruv6338a8zgkxv0
Haha! Love the title! and I hope between you and me we can inspire some more wonderful machines...I'd like to think this textuere pack and theme, though lacking in some respects, ismade for this sort of thing. Yours looks a lot more imaginative than mine...I'll definately have to look at your world file and try and pic up some tips as to what's possible. Remember my feeble attempts are all hit and miss! :biggrin.gif:
...and I thought mine looked dangerous to jump inside!! :blink.gif:
Lol! I've just been supporting aageon over exactly the same thing. I've just been over and it looks like it's been taken down. Many thanks to Planet Minecraft and all concerned in watching out for me. I haven't the time to keep up with these sorts of issues, but at least there's some advantage to having a pack that's so very different from others and I'm very grateful when people with integrity help out like this. for you. :smile.gif:
This exact thing happened to my Ausscraft. They still haven't taken it down!
I hope something gets done very soon. I'm not familiar with Planet Minecraft's workings and haven't had the time to join it. Flip I find it difficult keeping up here, but I wish i could help, mate! Oh, the internet and the amorally afflicted. Where's the satisfaction in trying to pass off someone else's work as your own? I will never understsnd it!
loving the texpack and have been using it since i started playing MC :biggrin.gif: i just have one request, Better then wolves mod is a fantastic and creative mod but it lacks in style and creativity for textures, can i ask you to take a look at it? ive tried making the texture 32x32 and like any clean programmer it works perfectly but if you try this youll see what i mean by lacking in creativity and style :)anyhow thx for the awesome textures <3better than wolves mod
Thanks Khoroz, glad you like it! :smile.gif:
Much of this reply of mine is copied from the last page where someone asked if I could do more Industrial Craft textures. I'd love to make textures for the Better than Wolves mod too, I really would, but there's still much to do to finish this pack first and I don't have much time at the moment. I'm truly sorry, as it's an awesome mod and lends itself to this theme so well. The trouble with both these mods is that there is so much excellent material in them, it's almost as much work as making an entire texture pack from scratch. :sad.gif:
The range of industrial/mechanistic mods that could be applied to this theme is quite mind boggling really, but it makes me sad that I'll probably never have time to cover even the most obvious one's to my satisfaction. I don't even get chance to try the most interesting ones out and see what's possible, which is a pre-requisite for doing satisfactory textures.
The airship mod by pchan3 that I made the original textures for almost burned me out actually. If there's anything I do well, it's mechanical/industrial style textures, i certainly get the most pleasure from that sort of thing in Minecraft, so it's particularly frustrating from my point of view not to have the time to make steampunk equivalents for such excellent mods. :sad.gif:
Wow... This texturepack is even more awesome than I remembered it to be.
Keep up the good work sir.
Hi CubicMeter. Many thanks to you sir.
I remember your name well, but without looking back through this ridiculously overlong thread I can't remember more than that. It's an age thing with me. :sad.gif:
There's still much to do though! By page 600 I might have just about completed the pack...that's my optimistic view. :biggrin.gif:

never mind that I have a new mod in the planning stage right now....redstone conduits. think rigid pipes that carry power. one thing that irks me quite a lot is the way redstone wire behaves as it is. it always wants to cross connect with the closest wire, eliminating any possibilty for running wires truly in parallel....you can if you run them horizontally in a staggered formation like so (looking at them head on, each x is a redstone track) :
i want to run them truly im parallel, and in any direction i please. the idea i had was to be able to craft them with simple materials, like 1 earth, sand or smoothstone with 1 redstone dust. when you place the pipe, it will look like a small block in the middle of a standard cube, with extensions coming off the center to meet the sides of the cube its in. if there is another pipe or power source near by, it will try to connect to it by default, like standard redstone...but if you right click on a face for that conduit, it will toggle that side and either run a connection to it, or remove that connection to that face...meaning you can configure it to run in any direction, and disconnect it from neighboring wires to eliminate cross connects. decoratively it would look amazing in steampunk architecture. functionally for logic nuts like me, it would be a blessing, as 99% of the time we spend on designing circuits is in routing signals around in mind bending ways that just do not look natural.

Nonsense. You'll have it done by page 450. Pages 450 to 600 will be spent catching up on adding all the stuff from 1.8. :wink.gif:
