Also would be grateful for any inspiration on steampunk Nether/hell blocks to get me fired up. :biggrin.gif:
Sticking with Steampunk and 'Victorian' inspiration sources, Jules Verne's A Journey to the Center of the Earth immediately comes to mind. There are some subterranean references for possible inspiration. Thats the best off the top of my head, though I'll keep at it.

I can't say this enough, but I love your work!

Yes! I would most definitely recommend "Journey to the Center of the Earth" as well.
Also City of Ember had some really good textures and it's all underground/mine environments.
BTW - This is my first post on these forums. I've been lurking awhile, but the Steampunk theme caught my eye. I've been exchanging messages with Glimmar offline as well. I haven't played Minecraft yet, because I'm afraid of what it will do to my productivity in well... everything else! =)
@VernianProcess: Haha, minecraft might take control... WILL take control, so join us
@Glimmar: I am curious as to what steampunk swords might be and for that matter axes and the like? I am honestly baffled as to what they might be. If you could enlighten me it would wonderful. Oh, and I was wondering if you plan on releasing a lower resolution version of this texture pack?
aww I didn't notice it was 16x16 for the contest ... doesn't that kinda knock out most popular texture packs though with that restriction.
oh well, though I should post a few pics of how my airship looks now with the steampunk textures (awesome by the way). and please excuse the low resolution of the pics, I couldn't get fraps to cooperate so I just used print screen.
Captains room

Engineering
Fake engines and Props
and my new battleship, which is still a work in progress, off in the distance.

Haha! Yes, join the dark side Lu...I mean 'VernianProcess'. I want to hear some more of that Steampunk music you have, it would be awesome to include some tracks with my theme if you're able. I'm sure others would love to listen to it in the background, in their worlds. It really would be awesome!
Yes! Jules Verne's, "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" was also made into a film in the 1950's/60's too and recently, and the subject is about as appropriate as you could get for this game. Has anyone made a 'Mole Machine' construction yet in Minecraft?
Haven't seen the movie of 'City of Ember', but am aware of the books and concept. I'll have to look into that.

Yet again, you have inspired me.
I feel like building a hidenburg.
Off I go!
I hope you'll report back with piccys! :biggrin.gif: We need all the inspiration we can get.
By-the-way, has anyone read Alastair Reynold's latest book, "Terminal World"? It's written like he wrote it after a long session playing Minecraft! Full of Steampunk airships, sky piercing towers and Biome-like zones. If you haven't read it and love Steampunk or science fiction in general, have a look. Sorry for going off topic. Actually it's not really off topic at all is it! :biggrin.gif:

I know, it's probably bioshock talking in me, but can they be wrenches?
Something like those for stone and steel,
and somethingt like that one for diamond.
Though, "diamond wrench" all of a sudden doesent have much resemblance with that picture. Maybe, iron forks, fixed in something crystallized?
It's not that I'm impatient for him to finish it, it's that I'm a little tired of seeing the title of the thread, when I'm preaty sure he has come up with something that isn't just a temporary fix.
I fancy that it could be made to look like some sort of vent in the landscape and still work as a lanternesque design, but might be marvellously atmospheric for submariner antics with all the underwater bases folk like to build. I can see it taking a lot of work, but being well worth the effort! Any thoughts on the idea?

Nice man, that looks pretty good. I'm definitely going to have to use it.

I believe that, considering the context (steampunk), a more appropriate term would be dirigible or Airship. But yes, I'm fairly certain that's what you're seeing. Nice map! I know Glimmar says he doesn't like the cobblestone texture, but I think it looks good there. However, if he says it looks bad, then when/if he finds something he thinks looks good, it'll look amazing to me for certain. I love this texture pack, and I look forward to when it has an "official" Halloween Update compatibility release. Mouser X over and out.

Don't rush the artist. It needs *steampunkish* art. Not just anything with valves.
