I'm really liking the new blocks Glimmar :smile.gif: My apologies for not being able to stop in often, I've been busy with my own pack. Finally released version 1!
Thanks, Tlos. Oooo! I'll come over and have a look as soon as I can.
Thanks for the notice, Scaipy. Has 1.7 been released then, or are those just advanced copies as a heads up for everyone? I play offline all the time so don't get automatic updates, then I don't get caught by surprise in the middle of editing stuff.
I've just finished the iron armor and may use some quick edits of it to temporarily represent the gold and diamond sets. I've still got to do the icon sets for iron, gold and diamond.
This is insanely good. Download download download!!!
Thanks, Affinite. Ha ha. It'll probably be the start of the weekend by the time I get the new work packed up and ready to upload, assuming Notch releases Jeb's update. I like to play with the new stuff for a little while to get a proper feel for how it should be textured for this theme before rushing...I'm notoriously accident prone when it comes to forgetting things...old age setting in I think! :biggrin.gif:

This is just a preview from Jeb. The pack itself will be released on or around Thursday. So, as you can see in the sheets, there only appears to be one new item, the shears, which appear next to the cookies. As for the piston, it is in the row next to the glowstone, with sticky panel, normal panel, side view, back view of base, and front view of base. It appears that the shaft will use the texture from the top part of the side view (ie. the cross-section of the panel). May need some fiddling to get it to work well, so I for one wouldn't mind if you took the weekend to update everything.

I don't like to keep folk waiting any longer than necessary, but when something is animated like this (and even for simple motionless blocks and especially as this is a 3d game of construction) like any good sculptor does, it's worth spending time walking round and seeing it from all angles. Rubbing my chin and looking all serious is all part of the process too. :biggrin.gif:
In all seriousness though, having come this far with the armor, I might as well do all the icons and temp. gold and diamond versions too, if I can.
It looks like I won't get a completed 3rd alternate sheet of textures completed now, but I'll still upload what there is and update over time.
Hey Glimmy, I like your new dirigibles, the new wool makes a nice alternative. Also, the green-and-brown soulsand functions well as emerald-embedded building material. I'mma use it for my new building.
Here's a sketch if you guys are interested
(even if you guys are not interested, the sketch still is here)
it's 61 blocks high and doesn't look a thing like steampunk-design, but the contrast between wood and sand is just right for something arabian.
Also, the design below is from some sumarian giant shrine.
Looking good No_44, and although your design looks Persian, because you've built using brick it does have a kind of Victorian mill-like feel to it. Certainly on an epic scale, therefore epic + Victorian = Steampunk! Lol :biggrin.gif:
If you're on Windows [: which I'm not, unfortunately. I'm not sure if you have to compile it or there's a script to do it in the download or something, but it's worth it if you get it working :tongue.gif: it's not labeled as stable, but I hear it's pretty safe to use. It's has some features like Single window mode and stuff.
Sorry Cyrilshark, I missed this in the rush of uploading pics. I'll give it a try when i can. Like you I get very excited over a new Gimp and it seems ages since the last major release. Thanks for the info! :smile.gif:
Hey Glimmar, just wanted to drop in to tell you about the new released 1.7 terrain.png :biggrin.gif:
Jeb just released it! http://mojang.com/wp.../06/terrain.png
On another note....who would be interested in a Mumble server to jabber on whilst working on textures? I already have the server and it's set up for 64 people and has channels and stuff. I've had it for a couple months (before "they" happened :tongue.gif:) but couldn't do anything with it. It wont be public (sorry..I don't want to get into the whole moderating thing too much now), so it will be invite only by me and a couple others who don't mind doing that sort of thing.
Posting this here and on my thread...cause that's where the coolest kids play (you know who you are).
:biggrin.gif:
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
It now works on both normal and HD textures (and you can even mix between them!).
See the thread for more detailed info.
If you want to use this with the alt-tile sheets Glimmar has you will have to make the sheets into their own packs. Just rename the image to terrain.png and put it inside a .zip and then put it someplace the mixer can find it.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Yeh. It seems Mojang keeps knocking Mr Hopkin's mod for six! :sad.gif: I think I will just put all the Wildgrass textures in a row along the bottom of the terrain sheet until we know what's happening.
I saw that too....:mellow:On another note....who would be interested in a Mumble server to jabber on whilst working on textures? What's involved? If I have to air my scary voice live, it would be too much for me (and more to the point...for everyone else! Lol) :biggrin.gif: If it's just text based, I'd be interested, Faust. :smile.gif:

What! No Smellascope? I am somewhat disappointed to say the least! I'd heard that Creepers smell strongly of compost and your smellascope would have given early warning of an attack. Haha, how cool would a steampunk smellascope look! Funny mod anyone? Smells could be represented by hilarious text descriptions as mobs came into range or users visited certain areas. :biggrin.gif:
Heehee! Everything happens at once! This sounds like you have been busy beavering away in the background. :smile.gif: Fantastic! Having started, but not completed the third sheet of alt textures, it couldn't have come at a better time.
As soon as I get the next update out I will put together some zip files with a feature in my OP on your New Mixer Machine for folk to download as ready to use packages...it will solve a great number of problems with regard to me introducing so many changes to my pack. Although I like the look of my new 'bouncy' wool textures and glowstone, not everyone will share my current building requirements.
Apart from giving everyone more freedom to make up their own perfect arrangement of materials, it frees me up to experiment more and not worry that users are going to get too frustrated by complete changes to their world vision...so I view this as being a wonderful addition to Minecraft.
Really well done, The_Fool, thank you so much for all the time and effort you've obviously put into your creation. I just hope folk quickly see what an awesome addition to Minecraft it is.

After editing that squid and the art-pack, I've become quite interested in making texture-packs. Perhaps Imma make an arabian one. I'd be interested, so that one can catch some advice from the pro's while working on textures.

I just made the textures invisible until I need them.. :biggrin.gif:

Well, we would LOVE to hear your voice Glimmar. But as a long time team-based FPS and MMO gamer, I'm used to talking on comms. I also totally understand those who don't like/want to for various reasons. (Pipe, KenDawg, and I actually got to here Tlos talk and he was like you Glimm...so there's hope)
Luckily, there is a text to voice option that is cool, funny, and annoying. Just type something and people can both see what you type, and hear it (if they choose to enable it). The typing can only be seen in the Mumble box though. Not in game or through pop-ups or chat server.

Love to have ya! There will be channels in place to ask for help or shoot the breeze (why are people constantly shooting the breeze? Is it wild game or something? Does it taste lick one eyed chicken?). Some channels will be for Minecraft gaming only so they can talk about in game stuff.

That should be cool, 44. Let us know when you start a thread and we'll be over in a shot. :smile.gif:

What? You mean I can type and you hear a robot version of my voice? Haha! :biggrin.gif:

That's exactly what I mean. Like the old school MS version of text to speech sounding. We'd have too much fun doing that to be able to texture. You guys wouldn't even need a headset unless you want to (could get annoying to others with only speakers :biggrin.gif:)
Made some old school shears (WIP) for if anyone wants to add them before Glimmar's update.
Still trying to figure out the piston...what are the two right blocks used for? I saw the video and the textures never get used on the piston...

Let me tell you, "Yes father" repeatedly issued to all my instructions makes it difficult to keep a straight face... I tried I really did. And I don't normally get called 'father' by the way...seriously! :biggrin.gif:
Piston stuff? Ksheep above listed what textures corresponded with which sides. Last page I think. I'm going for me tea now, but hoping to put a steampunk piston together tonight. Had a little time to finish all the armor off this afternoon. :smile.gif:
Yeah, previous page has my interpretation of what is what. Please note, what I had said is only what I believe the textures correspond to, based on the video and by what makes the most sense to me. There may be some difference as to what is what. That said, it is nice that they aren't forcing the pistons to use the same texture as the furnaces/dispensers, even if they are the same on the vanilla version.

I agree. As regards texturing, this has improved greatly on the original, but many are disappointed at the lack of ability to fling stuff. Notch has been fairly consistant up to now in trying to make stuff work as it should and for the standard survival game I think it's appropriate. Modders can no doubt change things any way they want afterwards. :smile.gif:
I'm just not as clever as you guys...I just can't visualise things until I get my hands on it, but like everything else I've done, I want the redstone pipes to look like they properly fit into it, and if not in the short term, certainly at some stage to have completely different looking mechanical/steam/clockwork parts that hopefully might have multi-prop uses.
I've just had another good look at the vid and feel like I understand the possibilities now. Sorry...just thinking out loud while I practice my work avoidance tactics. Heehee :biggrin.gif:
