Thanks for the link to the gun mod, *Malanius. About the pumpkins, what about some sort of sinister looking welding helmet? It would fit with the steam punk image and it would make things more realistic when building steam-punkish structures (though it would be strange to see helmets "growing" on the ground).
Edit: Yeah, I looked back and it was Malanius. I don't know how I missed that. Sorry.
This far exceeded my expectations. I didn't bother with the HD mod because pea soup instead of water didn'st look too bad but I will download it now because of the halloween update.
Excellent work on this.

One day there will be words here. And it will be full of important stuff. Today is not that day.
Wokka wokka wokka.
I am loving this pack :happy.gif:. Great work your showing.
One question though, how will you make the... wheat steampunk-ish?
Maybe have the field tiles have metal running through to simulate a sorta of mechanical farm.
The wheat could be.... I have no idea, but plain looking wheat doesnt really add to the style of steampunk.
But, thats just my opinion.
In another thread some guys figured out just what part of the trianlge pic that is the overlay for grass and leaves corresponds to which biome.
Here is a relevant picture and explanation so that you can customize the color for each biome:
Quote from The_Fool76 »
Based on the information found in this thread viewtopic.php?f=25&t=71923
I reversed the code and generated an image that should show exactly how the biomes map to the two colors.png files.
* RAINFOREST (rainforest)
* SEASONAL FOREST (seasonal forest)
* PLAINS (plains)
* DESERT (desert)
* FOREST (forest)
* SHRUBLAND (shrubland)
* SAVANNA (savanna)
* SWAMPLAND (swampland)
* TAIGA (taiga)
* TUNDRA (tundra)
Another thing from another thread, using pumpkins as specialty helmets, as changing the pumpkinblur.png along with it. Examples:
Quote from Soulscribe »
It's square because the game will stretch it rectangular.
Quote from nava707 »
I edited the pumpkin :happy.gif:
Metroid helm ftw!
I'd like to think it shouldn't be too difficult to make one with an appropriately industrial view, but I've not come up with anything myself yet, so I'm tossing it out to you.

Just another quick look in, while I have some lunch and just to keep ideas rolling! :smile.gif:
@ bcj42: Oooo! I like the idea of a welding helmet and I'd forgotten about the fact that pumpkins can be made into helmets. Great possibilties there! At least I have to remember that whatever I do, has to have some link with being used as a helmet too. That's a difficult one to multitask!
Also not sure it was me that gave the link about the gun mod. I remember reading it in my thread, but I can't take credit for the link. Does it work ok in the steampunk setting? :smile.gif:
@ Valdrec: I didn't know that pumpkins were signals to dungeons! I've not had much chance to get back on minecraft and I've already explored such a wide area in my world, I'd have to travel for miles to find a pumpkin! I'll have to bite the bullet and use a chunk editor or start a new world to actually get to see the new biomes or a pumpkin! :sad.gif:
@ Brownie: Many thanks. The HD fix is definately worth it though, and when it's fully patched up the pea soup water looks even better animated. The texture was a bit of a rush job though, to get something out before the update, so needs work to give it more depth.
@ Tiger4Ruler & cn0n: Yes, I noticed this (iron, gold, diamond showing one texture on every side) when I quickly loaded up my textures soon after the update! What's the current thinking on this? Is it a fault with the HD patcher? Nothing has changed in the positioning of these textures on the terrain.png. I'm assuming this is only noticeable on HD textures and particularly on mine because I've done something different on all 3 faces (top, sides and bottom). Or has Notch dispensed with the differences? Would be glad for any info on this for when I get back to working on the texture pack.
@ Metalith: re: The wheat/crops texture. I was kind of happy with the texture as it is, so that I can use it as another decorative plant in my own world - to make the landscape more natural looking. However, I totally agree it would be awesome to have a variation that was more steampunkish. Using pipes and valves to simulate an irrigation system would fit in really well, especially as in most cases we have water on display next to the wheat. Right...added it to my list of cool possible variations. :biggrin.gif: Thanks, Metalith!
@ CreeperDaReeper: Many thanks for the info on the grass/foliage colour.png file. That will be mighty useful at some point. Flip! I'm excited at the possibilities this Halloween update has thrown up, but a bit overwhelmed at everything that needs working on to catch up!!
@ Sparksol: Thanks for that! So that's what the pumpkinblur.png file is for! >_< Wow! That's got great potential for this theme! Flip, flip, flip!! Ah need more time Captain...my heads ganna explode wi the possibilities! :biggrin.gif:
@Glimmar: I traveled for quite some time but found them Pumpkins, bet you can do the same, just takes patience..

As far as I remember it has been mentioned in the 'Bug List - Glitches found so far (+ what we did/didn't get)' - thread and I am afraid that for those blocks only one side 'A' is used on all sides and not A,B,C and only one texture is used.
It' s no bug it' s intended from Notch so that placing stairs is no longer a problem. I am afraid that is the state at the moment and there is nothing we can do about it.

Thanks, Tiger4Ruler. You are always a great source of up-to-date info on things and you've saved me time in searching. At least it's not my fault, but what a disaster for my theme and ideas about blocks multi-tasking. Notch's update gave us a lot, but took a lot away too! Can't even use the art.png file now either, to add extra gadgets and gizmos in HD! :sad.gif:
Right...I'm getting my best pumpkin hunting equipment on this weekend and I'm going to trek to the outer regions of my kingdom and see if I can't catch me a pumpkin! Can we grow and harvest pumpkins? Not really had chance to look into this on the forum! :smile.gif:
Also not sure it was me that gave the link about the gun mod. I remember reading it in my thread, but I can't take credit for the link. Does it work ok in the steampunk setting? :smile.gif:
Yep, you were right, it was Malanius who posted the link. As for the gun mod, It's neat but unfortunately it was built in 16 bit. With 32 bits it just looks like your holding a gray stick.

So this new Texture pack will be here soon? :biggrin.gif:

All textures must be standard sized (16x16 pixels)
This contest is FAIL.
@Glimmar I really like your cobblestone, to the extent that I am using your 32x32 cobblestone in my 64x64 personal textures. I don't suppose you work from a higher resolution source?
aww I didn't notice it was 16x16 for the contest ... doesn't that kinda knock out most popular texture packs though with that restriction.
oh well, though I should post a few pics of how my airship looks now with the steampunk textures (awesome by the way). and please excuse the low resolution of the pics, I couldn't get fraps to cooperate so I just used print screen.
Captains room
Deck
Engineering
Fake engines and Props
and my new battleship, which is still a work in progress, off in the distance.

@malanius: Your airship looks gorgeous compliment nice use of cloth blocks really like your work!
16x16 pixels is really only for the pro pixel artist, I tried a pumkin and it was hellish too little canvas to work on, if Notch would open it to 32x32 I think the turnup would be greater.
Not all of us can use HD due to lag and our computers sucking royally, however. Not to mention that the normal texture is 16x16
@ Tiger4Ruler: Many thanks for the work on your artfile again. I've bumped it to the top of the thread for everyone to see. Great work! Nice I can start to think about gadgets and other things for the paintings again too. :smile.gif:
@ GTG3000, Derposaurus and malanius: Thanks, you guys...you are very kind, but aside from the size restriction I reckon it won't be won by a specific theme like Steampunk, or Horror, etc. I reckon they will go for something a bit more standard and cheerful. I agree though it should be open to all sizes, regardless even if only the 16x16 is recognized officially by Notch. Now if some kind person fancied attempting to reduce my textures to 16x16, I wouldn't mind having a look at it and considering doing a joint entry or something. I know anything done in 32x32 usually looks terrible reduced, but there are some nice Doku 16x16 reductions out there. If I had unlimited time to work on Minecraft, I'd try this pack out in 16x16 and 64x64 just to see what they look like.
@ Lordemperor: Haha. At least someone likes my cobble! :biggrin.gif: Really glad it's useful. some of my textures like the wooden door started off as higher resolution, but the landscape textures were all started at 32x32 so that I could test their tiling qualities and refine etc. and then I just got stuck working that way with everything else.
@ malanius: Your airships are absolutely fantastic! My textures look like they were made specifically for your world and you've made my week. Thanks so much for posting those pics. Love what you've done with the iron block. I love how blocks can multi-task, but I'd just not envisaged the valve wheel texture being used in this way...genius! It's frustrating these blocks have been broken with the update! I'm updating the pack and selecting what I think will be the best single texture to represent iron, gold, diamond so I hope I don't spoil your ships by choosing the 'cog' one. If it does, let me know and I'll make a pack up for you. When I've time though, I've just got to have a go at making a proper 'prop' block (groan at the pun!:biggrin.gif:). Let me know what you think can be improved from the point of view of Airships, etc.
Again, great work indeed and thanks for sharing, it really helps show stuff off! :biggrin.gif:
I'm trying out some ideas for the pumpkin with Steampunk 'helmet' design firmly in mind and I'd like to do something along the lines of the Captain Nemo helmet from the 1950's Disney version, if it's feasable.
I fancy that it could be made to look like some sort of vent in the landscape and still work as a lanternesque design, but might be marvellously atmospheric for submariner antics with all the underwater bases folk like to build. I can see it taking a lot of work, but being well worth the effort! Any thoughts on the idea?
Also would be grateful for any inspiration on steampunk Nether/hell blocks to get me fired up. :biggrin.gif:
