Hey Glimmar, I love the pack. Is there an easy way I can edit the textures to make glass clearer (as in less crossbars), or will I need adobe/gimp to do that?
Marvelous update! Thanks Glimmar! Fun fact of the day; now you only have to Google 'glimmar' and the top result as well as most of the 1st page results are this texture pack. You're famous!!! :biggrin.gif: BTW for the interested methinks I'll update my alternate terrain shortly...
Howdy mate, thanks again! :smile.gif:
That would be great if you could update your alternate terrain edit. I'll swap in any updates or alternate terrain.png files for the 'extras' download folks (only using my textures or your own. Definately no remixing with other texture packs!). Within reason that is. I don't expect to get swamped, but if I did, I'd have to separate off a download just for alternate steampunk terrains.
I did Google my name and got quite a shock! I'm cautious about things like that because life is complicated enough on these forums without discovering something I'd rather not outside in the big wild web.
First post get! Been lurking for a while... Here is something I did, an experiment in hand-drawing 2D pixel art directly into a Minecraft scene... with the Steampunk Pack of course :biggrin.gif: Sticking artistic tiles all over the ore blocks and whatnot. Also changed the torches to orange, just a preference. The actual world I am building is Silk Road themed, based on the Tocharian culture. Be sure to Full View since the people are at 1:1 pixel resolution. I am thinking of doing a webcomic in this style... since I love pixeling people but hate pixeling backgrounds... but building them in MC is enjoyable, zen-like...edit: changed image host
abadidea, I absolutely love the use your putting my pack to there. What a great idea for using Minecraft and my textures to create a graphic adventure story!
If you started a thread or had a website I'd love to have a link in my OP for others to use in following your story. Believe it or not I'm unfamiliar with the 'Silk Road' theme or the Tocharian culture, but I just think your idea of using Minecraft to build sets into which you place your characters, etc. has such potential for drama.
Please show us some more pics or give us a link to more and accept my encouragement to continue with it. So long as you're not breaking any copyright on original characters that is. :ohmy.gif: Lol!
And a big welcome to the forums. Nice to have your first post!
yay! its my birthday today, but i have a exam to finish today....i like the hatch! it looks like a manhole thing.have you made a steampunk map yet?i have a question and its not importanr: is it notch's birthday today?(minecraft says it)
Happy Birthday d95 from all of us here. It would be great if you shared the same day as Notch.
I was just stopping by to see if there were any additional changes to the pack, but it looks like nothing in the new update changed texture wise.AlthoughEither he's just being funny, or there was something more to that urban legend than we thought.
My son pointed that out to me and I wondered what he was on about at first.
I think Notch should introduce the odd random character who just happens to wander through. Doesn't have to talk or do anything, just occasionally someone for us solitary gamers to watch walking by in the distance. Perhaps they could randomly drop things or do something else. I know there are many mods out there that do much more, but it would be nice to have something random as a part of the official offering.
OMG...the Alien scared the crap right out of me...of course I was like 9 when I saw it but the H R Giger imagery left it's mark on my psyche ever since. No, PipeWorld can stay on the down low for now...maybe some day I'll be able to afford a 'real' server and then we can go full monty!
I was in my first year at art school in southern England at the time and most of the college hired a coach to go to the nearest movie theater to watch it. It was quite an event! Showing my age now! :dry.gif:
Righto will keep the server low profile, but when you feel like going full monty, just say the word! Lol!
Hey Glimmar, I've been using your image-set for a long long time now, but I had the strong feeling that there was a lack of decorative paintings. Thus I made a small selection myself. These paintings fit perfectly in a gloomy cave or victorian mansion, and I selected them on base of class, image and atmosphere. Actually, saying that I selected all of them myself would be a lie, I started by reading chapter 6 of A Rebours, and added the art mentioned in that book to the kz.png. After I added this small selection, I had about 30% of the paintings replaced, I replaced the other paintings to fit with these. Some painting contain nude, but that's purely in artistic fashion. Most of them are from the victorian age, some of the reinaissance and a few are from before or after (4 of them are from after 2000), but all of them fit right in your texturepack. I wonder if you would like to include them in the extras. If nessicary, I can include a list of creators. P.S.I'm a lurker, I made this account for the sole function of informing you and others of my paintingspack.P.P.S.The book mentioned above (A Rebours) is about artifice over nature and creating your own little world. It inspired Oscar Wilde and laid the base of the Decadent movement, wich is the philosophical prototype for SteamPunk. The book's context fits rather well with the very idea of steampunk and the concept of minecraft.
That's a very nice collection of paintings and, so long as we don't get sued for copyright or anything, I'll include it in the 'extras' download, but I've yet to update the extras and I can only do that when I've got my little update to fix some stuuf out. I'm rather busy with actual building in the real world at the moment!
Incidentally, don't forget Tiger4Ruler's xtreme kz.png filw is in the extras and that is mostly made up of Steampunk images. However, i like the classic period feel your collection brings and it is standard size, so doesn't require modding.
Thank you, 'No_44' and welcome to this section of the forums. :smile.gif:
I think he was probably hoping that this would finally get people to stop posting all of those Herobrine threads.
I think he's pulling off a false positive or whatever you call it. The talk is never going to die down IMHO. If anything, he's probably just fueled the conspiracy theorist's imagination to greater heights. Lol!
Hey Glimmar, I love the pack. Is there an easy way I can edit the textures to make glass clearer (as in less crossbars), or will I need adobe/gimp to do that?
You could try The_Fool76's 'Texture Mix Machine' in my OP and try some of my alternative glass textures in place of my standard wrought ironwork one. I keep meaning to do more glass block types as I find them quite relaxing mucking around with patterns, etc. and I could throw in some plain one's too it wouldn't hurt.
If you were doing it yourself, yes you would need something that supported transparency like Photoshop, Gimp or paint.NET to preserve the 'see-thru' nature of the glass.
do you think you could make SDK's gun mod work with this texture pack?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit into Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day.
You should make some custom sounds for This texturepack also
It would be nice I agree, but it's not my forte I'm afraid and I don't want to become dependent on too many mods for the pack to work.
Actually some kind person did make a sound file pack for it, but it quickly became out of date and being sound files taken from many sources it wasn't something I could include in the pack from a size and copyright point of view. Also I don't want to become bogged down trying to help folk with mod problems as I have little time as it is for what I enjoy most which is texturing and building.
I'd love for Notch to include some kind of sound for the minecart though. How practical that would be I have no idea as I'm not a coder, but the 'clunk clunk' of a cart as it went over each track and a 'clank' as it banged into another cart would be very atmospheric. Without some random element to the noise though it might become an annoyance and Notch might have already tried it and decided it just wasn't practical. And steam engine sounds for the powered minecart? Heaven indeed. Oh well! :sad.gif:
do you think you could make SDK's gun mod work with this texture pack?
Oh, sorry, HellkitePyro. Kind of the same answer as I've just given above really. I find I have very little time to look at mods and keep up with my own pack, and each mod would require familiarity on my part before I could do it justice.
As mentioned in my OP, I'm open to someone approaching me with respect to using some of my textures or style, to make my Glimmar's Steampunk compatible with sympathetic mods and I could give space and credit in my OP for anything appropriate. :smile.gif:
would it be possible to make the stuff a little lighter, because where my computer is there is a massive glare and with it being dark its hard to see :sad.gif:

Oh dear! I'm never going to be able to please everybody with the light levels. I've already had a request to tone down the latest brighter grass and most of the textures were brightened as much as I care to go with the pack in the latest update.
I'm sorry Purplehaze2112, I sympathize, but I'm going to have to put a stop to changes to light levels and stick with what I feel comfortable with. Every change I make one way or the other is going to please one and disappoint another. You're going to have to do what I do when I play an atmospheric fantasy game when the sun shines and that's draw the blinds a bit. :smile.gif:
Just popping in to say that I've given an excuse to my slower rate of items, and it is this. I finally made a thread for it. I'll still try to make items for here and Mythos though!

I spent all day working on the biggest single piece of pixel art I've ever done... she's just about 256 pixels tall... I prefer the flat shading look, but I tried to do a better job of adjusting her colors and shading to match the Minecraft scene...
(full view plox)
I must have a thing for waterfalls.
Don't think there's a way to avoid the billboard sprite look, but many an honorable 3D game of the 90s did just that.
Gonna keep making these practice images for a while :cool.gif: Need to find a way to make the foreground and background blend better, I realize it's not quite there yet. If I did the comic, most frames would have to have smaller pixel arts than that... the 256px would have to be reserved for dramatic shots :smile.gif:
Actually some kind person did make a sound file pack for it, but it quickly became out of date and being sound files taken from many sources it wasn't something I could include in the pack from a size and copyright point of view.
Perhaps you could use a mic and record yourself actually saying "clank, clank, clunk". That way you'd avoid copyrights :wink.gif: Also you could say "boing!" for whenever your character jumps. It'd be the shittiest yet most amusing literal sound effect add-on

It looks good, maybe add some 'noise' to the character...like we do with the minecraft skins? Might help it blend it a bit more. Also, it seems the character is a bit blurry which minecraft is not so that adds to the feeling of your image being out of place with the background.

I'm going to say a single word which I think sums up what the picture needs:
Contrast.
The character has little to no shading on it at all. Try and increase the contrast between shades, and make the shape really stand out.
Just popping in to say that I've given an excuse to my slower rate of items, and it is this. I finally made a thread for it. I'll still try to make items for here and Mythos though!
I've been and seen your pack and it's awesome. Well done mate and about time you had the deserved attention having your own thread will bring. Best wishes for it's success and I've added a link in my OP at the top (well it will be there soon when I update my pack again this week, but with the changed pack I have been working on changing the OP slightly again, if that makes sense?)

Very nice, abadidea. Good advice from PipeHead and Proloe too, but I think also there's a place for a style that isn't necessarily trying to be part of the landscape...how it looks now appeals to me because it's obviously a 2d image overlaid on a 3d world.
Having said that I'd love to see someone have a go at some ultra realistic steampunk/period characters, props, etc. (still hand drawn rather than using a 3d graphics package) to illustrate an episodic story. I'm sure this has already been done with Minecraft...just not this theme.
Perhaps you could use a mic and record yourself actually saying "clank, clank, clunk". That way you'd avoid copyrights :wink.gif: Also you could say "boing!" for whenever your character jumps. It'd be the shittiest yet most amusing literal sound effect add-on
That gave me a chuckle, because I remember someone doing that for Minecraft last year and it was the most hilarious thing I ever heard in the entirety of Minecraftia! I think I vaguely remember one of the creatures going "Oh no!" everytime it died! :biggrin.gif:
I can tell you now you would not want to hear my croaky old voice going "clank, clank, clunk"...perhaps at Halloween though. Ha ha ha!
One of the best packs out, and the author does not use Ad.fly like many of the jags on the forums here.Downloading the mod now to check out the extended version, looking forward to this, I will post screens soon.
Thank you.
I take it you mean Proloe's amazing "SteamCraft" mod when talking about the extended version. You will love it! :smile.gif:
He is working on the armour now but it may be a little while before they are released. I can't wait :biggrin.gif:
Lordofsax is correct I am intending doing all the armour. However, I am notoriously slow and it's a painstaking process for me, because skinning things doesn't come naturally and I like to make things that feel appropriate and believable if at all possible. I'm also pretty busy in real life, with work and family...I do like to play Minecraft too.
I got to actually play a bit last night. It was both fun and a bad idea seeing as how tired I was. A single block area kept spawning a creeper in my new temple/castle/home on my guild's newly seeded server. It blew a hole in the main area THREE separate times within a two hour period.
(yes..I need to fix that)
:tongue.gif:
Edit - WOW blindhalibut! That pretty awesome work!
P.S
here's something that I thought was cool when I saw it last night. For those that ever played City of Heroes and love Steampunk. I think they did a decent job on this...
I think he was probably hoping that this would finally get people to stop posting all of those Herobrine threads.
